Hp pavilion g6-2123us loose hinges

The hinges on my laptop are super loose. It's causing the screen to go blank. Can these be tightened or am I screwed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that the hinges on your notebook are loose and causing issues.
Here is a link to HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide. Please note page 18,item 3. is a hinge kit. With  that being said you should be able to tighten them if the bracket has not become stripped. There is replacement instructions included in the manual if necessary.
If your  notebook is in warranty I suggest contacting HP support, as they may have repair options available and it would also provide documentation for a a reference  if you should have an issue later on with the hinges.
I hope this has helped and if you would like further assistance, please feel free to respond back.

  • Loose hinge on 30" ACD

    Hi,
I just opened up my brand new 30" ACD. I noticed that the foam packing was broken on one side, indicating that it had been handled a bit roughly in shipping. However, the display seems to be OK.
The only problem is the hinge on the stand. My older 23" ACD with the same design has a fairly stiff hinge, permitting it to be set in any position. In contrast, the newer display has a loose hinge and will not hold certain angles (it falls back to a stable resting position.)
Is this normal? Is it something that is trivial to fix? I see there are some set screws on the sides of the hinge, and four smaller ones on the bottom of the clamp holding the hinge in place.
Which ones should I tighten (and should I be concerned about the packing, even though the display seems to be fine, otherwise).
    Thanks,
    Dan

    1. Surf to http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type= sku&sku=23906 and buy AppleCare for your new 30-inch ACD. Only another $79 for a total of 3 years of coverage. You will sleep better at night.
    2. About the screws. Tighten one set about 1/4 turn. See what happens. "Rinse and repeat as necessary."

  • Can someone explain to me what the "loose hinge" issue is all about?

my gf just bought a new MB and have had the pleasure of playing around on it for a little while. love it and it practically out performs my late 2007 MBP! the only con imo is the glass in front of the screen, but it's not my computer!
i read on here about people claiming there is a loose hinge issue? i know if i close the lid to a certain point it shuts itself (maybe about 1/4 - 1/2 inch gap before the lid is fully closed), but i'm pretty positive that it's really just the magnets for keeping the lid closed.
i mean, is it simply an issue of the magnets being a little stronger than what people are expecting or is the lid shutting on its own with a gap of several inches?
anyways, the hinge on her MB seems perfectly fine.

I understand that your notebook is only displaying a black screen, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
Since you have already performed a hard reset and replaced the LCD, I recommend following this document on Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot. This should help your computer regain a successful display.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • T61 Loose Hinge - Does the warranty cover this issue?

Hello, I bought the T61 in 2008 with 3 year warranty in USA. My T61 is showing the loose hinge problem which has been encountered by many other forum users. Right now I'm in Chennai, India and the Lenovo warranty center in Alwarpet, Chennai says the hinge problem is not covered under warranty. Could any one from Lenovo confirm this for me. Thank you, Thaniks

Yes lead_org, it snapped and half piece stayed in its place inside the bezel.  I didnot know that the piece was disconnected so I tried to open and it close once , which caused the bezel plastic where is covers the hinge to open up.
At that stage I closed the lid and opened up a case to ship the box. I did take pictures before shipping the laptop , the laptop was never dropped, there were no body cracks or any other damages other than the broken hinge and lcd bezel plastic bending where the broken piece is in contact.
Only the right hinge is broken, the left one is intact.
Preventive maintenance was the first time I heard for electonic items from any hardware vendors.

  • Pavilion g6 Broken Right Hinge

I've had my G6 for almost a year and my right hinge is slowly breaking  off from the body. It's getting to the point where I can't close the computer. I searched this topic and I got to a topic on these forums called "Pavilion g6 Broken Left Hinge" found here : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacements/Pavilion-g6-Broken-Left-Hinge/td-p/32133... and apparently this is a common issue with the G6s.  I can't seem to reply to that topic. This is depressing that I can't use my laptop to the point where I can't move it without the hinge being to the point of breakage.  If someone from HP can help me here, I'd be greatful.

  • Loose hinges on T400 and Lenovo won't fix it?

    Hi.
I have recently bought a 13 month old T400 and I'm very pleased with it.
But the hinges for the screen are a bit loose. I called and authorized service center i Denmark (ServiceGruppen), and they said it wasn't covered by warranty?
I thought that Lenovo were a bit more service minded.. ?? Poor service..
What to do? Can I fix this by my self?

  • New shuffle - loose hinge

Sorry if this is a bit of a double post - I wrote this under my thread about Shuffle replacement but it's not really the same issue. If anyone has any experience or opinion please advise. Thank you!
I took my problematic battery-challenged Shuffle to my local Apple store and they gave me a new one without a problem. But, because I seem to live under a black cloud when it comes to gadgets, this out-of-the-box Shuffle has a different problem, obvious from the first touch - the hinge/clip is loose. Looser than the one on the Shuffle I just returned, which you could hardly pry open; this opens like a yawning bird. It doesn't seem to have the same grip either. It does clip to things but not with as much tenacity as the other Shuffle.
As I imagine this will only get worse with time/use I am once again in the quandary of what to do. Try it for a few days - I bought this mainly to run with so I cannot have anything that's going to fall off - or go back to the store tomorrow and have them give me another new Shuffle? Really, nothing is easy in my life.
I'm beginning to feel a bit unhinged myself.

I went back to the Apple store since I had only bought it a few days before and the manager said it felt within the range of acceptable tension or whatever the term was, and, in fact, I even tried out another (new) one there and it was the same. So I could have just returned it but they weren't going to open up another box. So, I'm living with it. It hasn't fallen off yet. I can always send it in for a replacement but then it's the old story of is it reconditioned or new and does that matter, etc. Too bad the first one I bought was tight as a rat's a**. It wouldn't hold the battery charge so I returned it. Oh well. I seem to be surviving this one so far. Thank you for the advice and I hope you resolve your hinge problem as well.

  • Yoga 11s loose hinge

One of the hinges on my two week old Yoga 11s is looser than the other.
As I open the lid and push it back, the left hinge rotates somewhat, but the right one stays firm. Finally, once I reach 180 degrees, they level out. I can also equalise them by closing the screen back up somewhat after opening it. It's not a huge difference between the hinges, but I'm aware of it, and it's kind of annoying given i've only just bought it.
    Is this single-hinge looseness normal?
Is it worth getting serviced, or are both hinges going to be as loose as barn doors in a few months time?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Don't risk it and get it fixed, imo. If the hinge breaks, your computer is useless.

  • IMac came back from repair with a loose hinge..

So my iMac had some fan problems, went away for repair under AppleCare, and came back fully working with a logic board replacement. Excellent, no problems. However, the hinge seems much looser than it was when I left, such that a bang or knock on my desk causes it to begin to droop downwards. It means I need to re-situate it somewhere between 5 and 10 times a day, and presumably it'll only get worse.
Can I tighten the hinge myself? I'd REALLY rather not lose the thing for another two weeks while they get a screwdriver in there. Is this something I can fix?
    Thanks!

They collected it from me the first time, and it wasn't a separate courier or anything. I called the people who repaired it and the engineer is going to return my call, but it seems like something I should be able to do myself. How do you get the stand off? Presumably it's doable, to add the VESA mount?

  • DM4 Laptop - loose hinge issue causes display go blank - on TWO laptops

Hi - I want to know if hinge issue is a know on HP DM4 laptops ...
I have two DM4 laptops.. one was fixed under warrenty and other one same issue and not under warrenty any more...
this is really fustrating .. it's the similar issue.. wondering if this is known issue .. and HP is fixing it for free????
    if HP isn't helping customers..
please let me know if there is a cheaper way to fix the issue ?    --
    thanks
    agokani

Done a few DM4 series hinges & most had broken the actual thread points in housing frame rather than hinge.
You need have a look yourself as far far cheaper & not too hard if compitent with hand tools. HP service manual from downloads section will help in stripping down to evaluate issue.
    Hinges are cheap for example:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Pavilion-DM4-1000-2000-series-Right-and-Left-Hinges-hinge-sets-608214-001...
Screen going blank could be screen cable damaged due to hinge area fault, again screen cable not expensive & replaced easy if use some care & thought.
You may be wise contact hp with the issue & see if they willing to do a discounted or free repair but from my experience you will end up chasing your tail without valid warranty or being prepared to pay rediculous repair costs ... a few guides & videos should be easily found via google to help you do the repairs ...

  • 2010 MBP creaky/loose hinge cover

I've noticed that the black plastic part of the hinge on my MBP creaks and is slightly loose. It sometimes creaks when the laptop is just sat on the desk and alawys creaks when I pick up the laptop. The plastic cover feels noticably loose. I took it to the apple store and the man assured me that this was normal and every MBP hinge is slightly different. I regularly use a few other identical 13" MBPs and none of them have this issue, and neither do any of the MBPs I've ever tried in store.
    Anybody else have this issue?
    Thanks!
    Joe

There is nothing we users can do about your issue. Take the computer back to the repair shop and talk with the manager.
