I would like to buy what if this happens to me?
Then what do i do?
Could any one post a commonet ifyou got your dvd from them as a lot of peaple well the links above did not.
Most are old comments so it makes me suspect that it might have been fixed but no one will know im going to phone up hp tomorow and see if they can order me dvd.
In some cases i herd they would ingnore the costomer email and block then ones you buy what ever product from their website and that costomer support is poor so how can we trust some one like this?
I think HP needs to start selling the cd them selfs rather than a midle man or create an iso file and then let us download from their website which I think is needed. Rather than paying more money for 5 dvd that dont cost a lot £40 is over kill if you ask me but that all manufacturese should do this make iso let the costomer chose to buy or download from them.

How do I do a factory reset of my Hp pavilion dv6700. I hit the F11 button but it doesn't do anything. Help

    Hi:
If the F11 key doesn't launch the recovery manager program, then you will either have to purchase a set of recovery DVD's by reading the info at the link below...
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07143&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
or, if you can read the 25 character Vista product key on the bottom of your notebook, you can make your own windows Vista installation DVD.
    Here's how:
If you're up to a slight but rewarding challenge you can make your own if you can read your 25 character Vista product key on the PC.
Just download the 3 files you need at the link below, and read all of the instructions to create a bootable DVD installation disk using imageburn.
Disregard the part of the text under the first screen shot about "extract the files to the Vista folder."
The files were already extracted to that folder when you ran the X14.exe file by reading the text on top of the first screen shot.
The other thing I noticed is on the 4th screen shot, where it shows Developer ID Microsoft Corporation. I had to type Microsoft Corporation in myself, and then the other codes automatically populated.
When I went to compile the ISO file, ImageBurn gave a message that about a WIM file and ISO, and if I wanted to burn it in a different format.
I selected No, make the ISO file.
It was not that hard to do. I burned both the 64 bit disk and the 32 bit disk in case I ever need them.
I tested both of them an my hp dc7100 CMT desktop PC, they worked perfectly.
When you enter the product key, it knows what version of Vista you have.
    http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/3317.2-3-microsoft-windows-v....
After you successfully install Vista, you can then install the drivers from your PC's support and driver page.

    Thanks you

Most consumer computers haven't come with OS Discs or Recovery Discs since about 2004. If you didn't create your personal HP Recovery Media, please contact official HP customer support, via the HP Worldwide Support Portal, to check on the availability of HP Recovery Media for your computer. If in the USA, you can also order the HP Recovery Disc set "658862-001 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit" from third party vendor ComputerSurgeons.com
Alternatively, if you can still read the 25-digit Windows product key on the Microsoft COA affixed to the computer, you can install Windows 7 Home Premium using this key. Please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" for instructions on how to download Windows 7 SP1, create the installation media, and install Windows 7 SP1 using the 25-digit product key from the Microsoft COA on your computer. Please see the HP Pavilion dv6-6173cl Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers page for Windows 7 drivers.

  • Where to find the factory reset for Shuffle 3rd gen?

My dad just bought a preowned iPod Shuffle 3rd generation.  We are needing to do a factory reset on it.  I tried to do the conventional way after plugging the Shuffle into the USB port.  After scanning for a while, it said it can't do a factory reset and gave me an error code of 1436.  I went to the page for that error and tried to download the reset utility for iPod Shuffle.  It said it wouldn't work on mine, it only works on 1st and 2nd gen.  I've looked everywhere for the utility manager for the 3rd generation.  I'm at a loss.  Can anyone help?

  • IOS 6, factory reset and the missing photos - where are they now?

I installed IOS6 then did a factory reset on my ipad, and afterwards all photos bar the seven in the photostream disappeared. They're still in the device somewhere as they're still taking up space under the 'Usage' section.
Anyone know how to recover them, or delete them entirely to free up that memory for other things? (All are backed up elsewhere so deletion is not a problem).

Have you been using your phone as recommended?  If so, you've been importing photos in your camera roll onto your computer for safe keeping.  Just as you would with a standalone digital camera.  Your photos would then reside safely on your computer for archival.
While camera roll photos ARE part of the backup, not everything always goes smoothly as you've seen, which is why the recommendation to import photos as soon as possible to your computer.
If you have a recent backup of your iPhone, you can restore and hopefully many of your photos will be on this backup.  Any photos or data added to your phone since this last backup are, of course, gone forever.

  • Trouble trying to factory reset from recovery (D:) drive

    Hey,
I'm in a bit of a predicament.  The Vista cd key on the bottom of the laptop has, of course, worn away and is mostly unreadable at this point and it was never written down.  Also, there were never any recovery DVDs burned and I am no longer able to boot into windows so burning them now is not an option.
I've tried to use the recovery D: drive to do a factory reset/re-install of Vista.  It seems to work most of the way- it does the step where it is formatting the C: drive, and copying files.  It then reboots and it sort of looks like it is starting to re-install Vista but then at some point I get an error along the lines of "the NLS files are missing".  So it seems like the recovery drive isn't quite right.
My first thought was to see if HP still provided recovery DVDs for a small fee, but of course they seem to be discontinued (laptop is a Pavilion dv4-1435dx with Vista premium home 64-bit).
It seems like my 3 options going forward are:
    1) pay upwards of $100 for a new copy of Vista (really makes me angry that I would be buying something I already bought...)
    2) try to buy a recovery disk from a 3rd party retailer (I'm afraid to do this as some of them seem to suggest I would need my own cd key at some point, which again is not readable off the bottom of the laptop).
    3) pray that there is some way to get the recovery D: drive to work as it should.
I'm hoping someone here can help me persue option 3).  I don't understand why the D: partition isn't working as it should- I mean, it's there to do exactly what I am trying to get it to do!  Is it common for the D: partition to just not work?  If so, it seems like that and the combination of easily worn cd keys on the bottom of laptops is a pretty shoddy product from HP...
If 3) is a no go, does anyone have experience with 3rd party recovery discs?  Do they require a cd key to be input even if they are being used on a laptop that has one of these pre-installed licenses and are just doing a factory reset?
Thanks for any and all help!

I've just been assured by a rep at their website that this will work for me:
    http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-17082-recovery-kit-578918-001-for-hp-model-number-dv4-1435dx.aspx
They claim that the cd key will be automatically read from the MOBO so I will not have to manually type it in during installation.
I guess ~$30 is the price I will pay for not having recovery discs burnt when I still had access to windows.

  • Factory reset boot loop

Hi,  I am not very technical, but here is my issue.  I have been getting the "blue screen of death" for about six months now, but the notebook has been ticking along.  I have lost the DVD E: drive a few times, but managed to reinstate that until the last time.  Currently system is not recognising E: drive. I thought I would do a factory reset so I backed up everything and did the reset.  Since then I am caught in a factory reset boot loop and I cannot get my pc to get past it.  It keeps telling me the reset was incomplete and to retry, but I get not further.  I have a Windows Repair Disc and the HP Recovery Discs, but because I cannot use the E: drive they are useless.  I have an external USB DVD drive as well, but it is not recognised either. I have Linux Ubuntu on a USB stick and have been able to use that okay.  It tells me there are 40 bad sectors on the 1TB hard drive. I think that the recovery partition D: has been corrupted and the boot sector may be damaged.  Is there anything I can do?  I am tempted to just go with Linux at this point. I Have a HP Pavilion DV 7 Entertainment notebook model 584037-001 with Windows 7 Home Premium.  It is about four years old. I have access to other MAC PCs, but no other Windows PCs. Any ideas?

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook and issues with a factory reset boot looping. Try running sfc /scannow would scan your system for errors at the command prompt. You can get to the command prompt by clicking F11 at startup. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. You could check this Microsoft document on system recovery options. Hope this is a help. Thanks.

  • Factory reset and a minimized image recovery

    Has anybody tried this?
I am considering doing a factory reset to restore my computer to the original, and...... then..... doing a minimized image recovery to remove all the trial applications and games software on C drive.
What else will I loose doing the minimized image recovery besides the trial applications software?
How about the programs (Cyber...etc.) that were included for the Blue ray drive..play and record that aren't trials.
Just what exactly  are the trial applications ?
Any discussion or remarks on this ?
This laptop has 2 hard drives, C and D. HP's Dv7 Pavilion. Windows Home premium 64 bit O.S.
    Thanks
Spring fever, mud season and computer cleaning go together.

    Thanks saturnwings,
My reasoning for the factory reset following with a MIR is because I have 2 physically separate hard drives installed in the laptop. Looking back, I probably should have done this when I first got it.
I did finally get a response from HP stating the only thing removed by doing a MIR was the games. They had no clue what was originally on the computer even with the ser.# ( software dejour?). I might want to take this with a bit of caution (my thought).
If I was only to do the MIR only affecting my C drive with the OS, to completely? remove the games,  it would leave my D drive intact (I have 2 separate hard drives).
I loaded (installed) as many programs on to the second hard drive as I could because the C drive isn't that big. Because of this, I was worried about lingering problems, thinking  I might need to reinstall programs to regain the links to the start menu.
I'm still trying to learn how to get these programs to the start menu if I was to leave the D drive intact (MIR). I am assuming there is a way?.
What I want is a setup where my computer is free of the games, and trial software, but with the programs I have installed and the data and documents I have from these programs.
Probably the easiest way is a new install of windows and wipe the slate clean, costing me $100 +/-, but I'd loose HP drivers, etc. which I've found aren't that easy to replace.
I am leaning toward a complete factory reset, MIR to remove what bloatware I can, followed by "uninstall software" from controll panel to get rid of what I haven't used in a year with a reinstall of my prefered programs and documents but I'm still looking for other suggestions or experiences.

  • Nokia Lumia 900 needing at least 2 factory resets ...

    Hi there
I'm currently on my second Nokia Lumia 900 device (the first had deformed defects at the top two corners after overheating) and since i've received the second device at least twice a month i have to perform a factory reset in order to prevent the device locking up...
I'm not sure if it's a combination of things or that maybe my expectations of the device are too high possibly however here's my scenario
In a typical day i use the following apps: -
rowi/Cowlick!/gleek/Twitter app (i switch between them all with varying performance)
    Facebook
    Email
    Zune Music
    Nokia Music
    Internet Explorer
What i've found is that Windows Phone runs really smooth and without a hitch... when connected to a WiFi signal!  When i run things through a 3G connection, this is where the phone starts stuttering in general and not just through apps.  for example, the Cowlick and Gleek apps tend to take roughly 60 seconds to load my twitter feed timeline (and this is with full strength 3G signal outdoors) yet rowi will take 10 seconds tops, which lead me to assume that rowi seems to handle 3G connections better than the Cowlick or Gleek apps HOWEVER even just exiting the apps by pressing the back button is majorly delayed compared to when its connected via WiFi - when trying to exit the Cowlick or Gleek app using a 3G connection takes normally 9-10 presses of the back button before it will respond to take me back to the Home screen yet over WiFi it takes no more than 2-3...
Now I remember there was an article talking about Background tasks taking up resources etc and i've switched off all of these which leads me to believe that possibly there are a few things causing these lock ups so I can only think of this being caused by a few things: -
    1) I have too many apps installed on the device at one time
    2) Despite turning off the Background tasks, the Twitter and Facebook accounts set up in the emails + accounts section are updating in the background and removing them may solve the problem
    3) My expectations of the device are too high (I came from a Samsung Galaxy Nexus as my previous phone)
I will confess at one point I had a mixture of 75 apps and games installed on my Lumia 900 at any one time so there's a good chance that may have caused the issue, although all the background tasks were switched off and on my previous phone I had a similar amount of apps installed with no impedement on performance regardless of connection type (WiFi/3G)
Can anyone possibly shed some light on what could be the cause?  Is it my heavy usage or app whording or just too high an expectation of Windows Phone 7.5 after moving from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich?
P.S. Any american Lumia owners care to comment on what like performance is like on their Lumia 900 on AT&T?  3G in the UK at the moment is painfully slow (despite the Lumia 900 DC-HSPA capabilities) so I wonder if it's the 3G performance that's causing my device to hiccup.

    No you will not.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.
    Now using the Lumia 1520

    Hi James_uk,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with factory reset on your ThinkPad E530.
If you have not done any changes in the HDD partition, you can use F11 to perform the system recovery.
Below is the link where you can download the user manual to know the complete details on preinstalled OS.

  • I need a font book factory reset & a clean slate

My font book is is a mess!  I have duplicate fonts in about 4 different directories (my fault) and want a fresh start.  I did an "export" of my fonts but I am unsure how to do a factory reset.  I've read the Font Management in OS X doc but am unclear if clearing the cache will bring me back to just the basic system fonts or only clears the history.
Do I need to go in and delete ("file ----> remove font") the fonts in font book one by one and THEN clear the cache before reinstalling the ones I want in the ONE directory folder where I want them to live?  (lesson learned).  I have 1200 (not including the duplicates) fonts that I need to sift through and am looking for the fastest way to do this without losing the key system fonts for Mac, Office 2011 and Adobe CS5 Creative Suite.
Is that amount of installed fonts still manageable with font book or should I be looking at a different font management solultion?  I can't answer that for myself until I make it manageable with only ONE copy of each font
Thanks in advance for your help!  I promise that I've read through this site and have been googling all day but haven't been sure about resetting the it all back to square one
    Tara

There isn't an easy, singular answer to your question, though it would be fairly straightforward if it weren't for Office. I am curious how you arrived at 4 directories of fonts. There are only three Fonts folders OS X looks at. The ones in the System folder, the main Library folder, and the one in the active user account. Since you shouldn't even be looking in the System folder (if you don't know what you're doing), the only two places you should have any fonts you've added would be the main Library and your account.
Anyway, start by launching Font Book. Delete any Font sets or Library sets you have created. Close Font Book. Create a new folder on the desktop. Call it "mine". Anything you want really, just so it refers to the fonts in your user account. Go to the Fonts folder in your user account and move all fonts out of that folder to the new one on the desktop. Create another new folder on the desktop named "lib". Open the /Library/Fonts/ folder and move all fonts into the second new folder. Both the /Library/Fonts/ folder, and the Fonts folder in your user account should be empty.
Follow the instructions at the bottom of Font Management in OS X to restore all fonts from the Snow Leopard DVD. You will be using Pacifist to restore both the System and Library fonts. When you're done, your fonts will be back to the way the were when you first installed OS X.
From the desktop folder you named "lib". Move Hoefler Text.ttc and STHeiti Medium.ttc to the /Library/Fonts/ folder. Replace the versions you just restored with these newer versions. They were updated in 10.6.5.
Office 2011 installs many newer versions of fonts OS X comes with. Move these fonts from the 'lib" folder into the /Library/Fonts/ folder so you again replace the ones you just restored.
    Arial.ttf
    Arial Italic.ttf
    Arial Bold.ttf
    Arial Bold Italic.ttf
    Brush Script.ttf

    Times New Roman Bold Italic.ttf
    Verdana.ttf
    Verdana Italic.ttf
    Verdana Bold.ttf
    Verdana Bold Italic.ttf
    Wingdings.ttf
    Wingdings 2.ttf
    Wingdings 3.ttf
Here's where it gets a bit trickier. Office 2011 also installs a number of old fonts which conflict with the newer .ttf OpenType fonts. Delete these from the "lib" folder on your desktop. Note that they do not have a file extension.
    Andale Mono
    Arial Black
    Arial Narrow
    Arial Rounded Bold
    Comic Sans MS
    Georgia
    Impact
    Tahoma
    Trebuchet MS
Without being able to see what you have left in the "lib" folder, I can't easily say what you can move back into the /Library/Fonts/ folder. So I'll list everything else Office 2011 installs that you can move back in. Office uses many of these for its supplied templates. Cambria is the default font family for Word.

Anything you have left in the "lib" folder on your desktop will either be duplicates, or fonts installed by other third party apps. That will essentially be true of any fonts you moved out of your user account. I can't tell you which, if any of these, would need to be moved back in. For now, combine the two into a single folder and store them away anywhere not in any of the three Fonts on the hard drive. There will be a bunch of them as CS5 installs a slew of fonts. None of which it needs to operate.
That's as far as I can help with the fonts themselves.
Now open Disk Utility and run a Repair Permissions on your startup drive. Moving the fonts around will cause them to have permissions OS X doesn't like. Mainly just because you moved them back into the /Library/Fonts/ folder and it will want to change the permissions to OS X as the owner simply because of where they are.
    Last few things to do.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.
Next to take care of the System's font cache files.
Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
Terminal will then ask for your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.
Last step when back at the desktop. Launch Font Book so it can create a new database based on the fonts currently in the drive's three Fonts folders.
There should be no duplicates. Everything OS X and Office installs will be available.
