Hp pavilion g6 dead

hi there, my laptop does not start. when i hit the power button, the power button lights up solid, the wireless button lights up solid [amber], and the caps lock button blinks slowly.what ive been reading indicates that its a blown cpu.  two questions:  1-is it worth fixing?2-how do i access the files on the hard drive and transfer them to my new hp laptop? any guidance is greatly appreciated.

It is much more likely to be the motherboard than the cpu and if you cannot do the labor yourself I think the expense for either is not going to be justified.  As far as the data on the hard drive; remove it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot8e0LKXZMo Then get a usb to SATA adapter:  http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATA-Drive-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00HJZJI84/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437001103&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+to+SATA Now just plug the old drive into the usb port on your new laptop and the old drive will become available for copying and pasting files to the new laptop.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Help! My laptop appears to be dead. When I turn it on the lights for hard drive and cd drive blink in unison and cd drive sounds(grinds) during blink. Most importantly the screen remains black and the power button does not turn it off.

  • Pavilion DV6846TX dead

yesterday night I done my works on it, everything was working fine then I turn it off and went to sleep. when today morning I try to turn it on it doesn't power on anymore. Just the Charger indicator is glowing. But none of other lights are turning on.
I tried removing battery and charger then pressing power key for 30 seconds then plug in charger and try to turn it on but nothing happen. It's like my laptop became dead.
    Anybody any idea/ suggestion please

    Let me guess.
It got hot a couple of times, maybe even shut down. You did everything you could to diagnose and suspected the battery was the culprit and checked the recall.
But you were probably told yours was not affected. Now your battery, transformer and motherboard are all toast, and you're barely out of warranty.
All for a $20 battery that could have started a fire that HP would not replace.
    Sound close?
    Good luck to you-

  • Pavilion DV7 dead.

My Pivilion dv7 do not start and only the lights flicker. No sound from fans and no screen.

In order to help you further, could you please provide us with more information about your computer? Please post the specific model number or the PN (Part Number) from the white tag on your computer. (can be located on the bottom of your PC/beneath the battery)
This will help us locate drivers and identify correct parts for your specific model.
Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then we'll move to the next step.
    To Perform A Hard Reset
Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)
Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.
Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.
Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.
Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

  • QuickTime Pro 7.55.90.70

Another Apple product purchase is hanging on the balance here.
How can I quickly (my meager hourly USD wages have easily been burned in addition to two kids that need to be bathed for school) reinstall this on my PC?
I have my key code (authorized on two PCs, well now only one) - is it now useless? Will I have to buy it AGAIN and revamp the other authorized PC too?
Gratefully yours but annoyed and crossing my fingers.

I'm afraid I don't understand the conundrum. I have QT 7.5.5 on my laptop, an e-machine, a Macmini, and it was on my iMac(let's all bow our heads in silence). Since I purchased the original keys, I've installed using the same numbers on:
    an HP Pavilion (now dead)
    a Compaq Presario (sold it)
    an iBook clamshell
    an iMac DV
    an iMac Indigo
    an IBM generic PC
    my current laptop
    my daughter's e-machine
    and my daughter's MacMini
I've never had it on more than two machines per key at any time, but I've never had any trouble installing an "upgrading" to pro.

  • Screen has a Dead or Stuck Pixel ! (Pavilion DV6 3158ca)

I have recently noticed a dead or stuck pixel on the top left area of my laptop screen, it shows a white dot, when a white or bright background is being viewed. If the background is black the dot isnt visible. Im sure its a dead or stuck pixel, I have tried  a few pixel fixing softwares, no help!
I still have 4 months left on my HP warranty, but I have read they wont change it unless there are 4 or 5 dead pixels! Anyone had any experience with this, or any ideas? It totally sucks to have a good working computer and a white dot which keeps grabbing my eyes attention.
    HELP!!!!!!!

    What is the size ???
A pixel is the size of  a pin point.
If you see a dot that is larger than that it could be press marks.
Press marks come from the keyboard, palm rest, mouse buttons and sometimes from the LCD lid.
Does the dot line up with any of these???

  • HP pavilion laptop Dv6000's internal drive is dead

My HP pavilion laptop Dv6000's internal drive is dead, I need to replace it.
    It is a WD Scorpio WD 1200B EVS - 60UST0 120GB.
This disk is not manufactured anymore. Do you know which disk I should buy?
    Thank you.

    Hi:
You can probably get by with any 2.5" notebook hard drive 250 - 500 GB on your model series.
Keep your old drive as you will need to transfer the caddy, connector and screws to the new one you get.
    Some suggested replacements...
7,200 for best performance (slightly less battery time between charges over a 5,400 RPM drive).
    250

You will also need a set of recovery disks which you may be able to order by reading the info at the link below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07143&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
If your PC came with windows vista and you can still read the whole product key on the bottom of the PC, you can make your own Vista installation disk as follows:
If you're up to a slight but rewarding challenge you can make your own if you can read your 25 character Vista product key on the PC.
Just download the 3 files you need at the link below, and read all of the instructions to create a bootable DVD installation disk using imageburn.
Disregard the part of the text under the first screen shot about "extract the files to the Vista folder."
The files were already extracted to that folder when you ran the X14.exe file by reading the text on top of the first screen shot.
The other thing I noticed is on the 4th screen shot, where it shows Developer ID Microsoft Corporation. I had to type Microsoft Corporation in myself, and then the other codes automatically populated.
When I went to compile the ISO file, ImageBurn gave a message that about a WIM file and ISO, and if I wanted to burn it in a different format.
I selected No, make the ISO file.
It was not that hard to do. I burned both the 64 bit disk and the 32 bit disk in case I ever need them.
I tested both of them an my hp dc7100 CMT desktop PC, they worked perfectly.
When you enter the product key, it knows what version of Vista you have.
    http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/3317.2-3-microsoft-windows-v....
After you successfully install Vista, you can then install the drivers from your PC's support and driver page.

Nothing more or less than my previous post. Apparently you decided not to try the wiggling part?
It may be that the issue is not related to the switch, in which case the process explained isn't going to help anything.

  • Pavilion dv7-4285dx: cannot BOOT/POST to external VGA and internal LCD is dead (cracked)

I have cracked the screen of my HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx so badly that I cannot read anything on it. I am trying to boot to an external monitor on VGA port, but never get a signal.
I have tried the monitor switching key, but that doesn't do anything. I have tried disconnecting the internal LCD from the motherboard - no different. I have tried a CMOS reset by removing the laptop battery, removing CMOS battery, disconnecting power supply and holding power button down for >1 minute, then restarting with just external LCD attached, but STILL no video on VGA port.
The video adapter is okay, as it boots to Windows and then I have video on the external monitor.
Although it's good that I can use the ext. monitor once Windows boots, I need to have video at boot time to make changes to BIOS.
Does anyone have another suggestion of how I can get the BIOS to detect and display to external VGA at boot time?

  • HP Pavilion All-in-One MS220z is dead

I previously posted and, I think, I tried all the suggestions and watched the video.
I tried a new outlet for the power cord and got a green light at point of connection, as before. also tried power cord from another compter, which fit - same result
I removed and replaced memory cards
I removed and replaced hard drive
I tried the F10 button but there is no response to the keyboard - correctly paired - the screen is black with no indication of life.
I removed the power cord and reinserted and tried  the power button(holding down for 5 seconds), no response except one blue blink to the left of
    the button.
I hear no sounds of any kind from the computer or see any lights.
I vacuumed the slots, but didn't see much dust.
The computer was working fine and just died when we tried to start it.
    Dead?  What can I do.

  • Two HP Pavilion 23fi 23-inch dead short after end of warranty!!

    Dear HP,
I live in Australia and it is almost impossible to find the right information or even support from your local web site.
I have two HP Pavilion 23fi 23-inch Diagonal IPS LED Backlit Monitor (C7T77A2) here on my desk and a few days apart BOTH displays died short after the warranty expired.
My local shop where I bought the displays is not able to help me.
Both displays show the same behavior, the display is decolored on the left side and only every second line is visible.
It is annoying and very disappointing, I bought HP because I am very happy with my Z200 workstation, but the displays are not worth the name HP.
I would be very pleased if some of your support personal could contact me to discuss the matter.
    Thank you.
    Chris

  • Help with Pavilion ze4600 - Intermittently goes dead - possible thermal issue

I was given this laptop by a friend... to repair.  Suddenly,it it started crashing and eventually would no longer boot up for him.  Upon pressing the power button, the Leds would momentarily flash on, then go out.  Sometimes, the fan would come on during that process... for a second or two.  I was dead in the water.
I know this is weird... but I discovered that I could get it to boot up by slightly twisting the main part of the laptop case/chassis... while pressing the power button.  Otherwise, it was not possible to get more than a momentary lights-on, lights-off from the Leds.  To keep it running, I rigged it with some clamps to maintain the "twisting action" on the chassis.  I know that I should, probably, stick to carpentry... or trouble shooting heavy equipment!  I know that approach is highly unorthodox... and potentially disastrous to the laptop.  My apologies to the professional! It is an old laptop... however.
Once it was running, there were no functional problems.  I performed 'dskchk' and 'defrag'... then transferred the personal files to a usb backup drive.
After running for an hour or two, it suddenly died, again.  I was unable to get it to boot.
I downloaded the Service Manual (as a last resort, HAHA)... I removed the keyboard and the top of the case.  I didn't attempt to remove the MOBO or cooling fan from the lower case.
I inspected the exposed portions of the MOBO, and other connections... including the 'lid switch'...  but didn't see any evidence of faulty connections.  I cleaned the MOBO contact point where it's anchored to the case... to make sure that it was properly grounded.
After reassembly, it still didn't boot. I still got the  momentary lights-on, lights-off from the Leds.
After applying the "twisting action", again, it booted up... and stay on for about an hour and a half.  Then it suddenly went dead, again.
I appears that that mechanically forcing the faulty connection into place works for a while, once the unit heats up, the connection is lost.
Can anyone shed any light on the possible cause of the bad connection... or is something else going on????
    Thanks, very much!

You have figured it out. A chip on the motherboard is loose and twisting it supplies the missing connection which disappears under heat and load. If you could identify the chip and heat it with a hot air gun for 20 seconds or so you might reflow it into place and the laptop work again. Otherwise it needs a new motherboard.

  • Pavilion Laptop dv6-1230 DVD CD RW drive dead.

In lieu of shipping the computer to HP for warranty repair, Is it possible to get a warranty replacement from HP and swap it out myself.  It would certainly be less costly to HP to just send me a new drive.
I'm have tech skills, but no experience with laptop repairs.  Is DVD drive replacement an easy task on this product?
How do I apply to HP for a replacement drive, i.e.. what documentation or testing info might they require?  The drive is:   Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561s
    Thank you for your advice.

  • HP Pavilion DV 9000 battery dead?

I have a DV9000 series PC.  Several months ago I received a message from HP that the batteries in some DV9000 laptops were failing unexpectedly.  A link in the message sent me to a page with a program that scanned my PC and told me my battery was fine and I didn't need to replace it.  Yesterday my laptop shut down unexpectedly and when I plugged it it I received a message that my battery is fully charged but I should replace my battery.  So, my question is will HP still replace my battery or do I need to replace it myself.  A new battery is 139.00 + shipping and I hate to buy a new battery if instead I should just invest in a new laptop.
    Thanks,
    Kathy

    I also have this problem.
I bought one DV7-1243dx laptop in 2009. My warranty expired in Ago/2009, however the battery (AG08) began to warn that it is loaded, but it requires replacement and does not support more than 10 minutes.
I've passed the original program HP scanner and not resolved.
A few months ago I received a notice that the batteries (AG08) in some DV9000 laptop were showing unexpected failure.
I want to know if HP will replace the battery?
    Thanks,
    Isaias
