HP Pavilion g6 Notebook incompatible with AMD PHENOM II N660 processor

Hello,
I am having a problem with upgrading my laptop's processor.
Product Name : HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC
Product Number : QJ283EA#ABU
The processor I've bought is a AMD Phenom II N660 which is supposed to be compatible according to this pdf:
http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02770249.pdf
However when I took my laptop apart to place the new processor in, the processor socket didn't match the pins on the processor. Hope that made sense? I'm not an expert with computers, but have some knowledge about them.
What can I do? Is there anything I can do to fix this such as buying a new processor socket or is that something that can't be changed? From what I can tell the processor appears to be compatible according to the information on the pdf above, so shouldn't the pins be the same?
Thanks for reading and I hope someone knows how to help me!
This question was solved.

If the originally installed  CPU was of the AMD E-Series, then the system board accepts only BGA413 socket CPUs.
If the CPU was an A-series  AMD CPU, then the socket was FS1
The CPU that you bought is a Socket S1 (S1g4) type.
Upgrading the CPU does require a bit more than looking at the Maintenence & Service guide as a reference. The guide assumes that you have all of the perquisite knowlege. That is why tt is meant for HP Service Centers and technicians.

  • 890FXA-GD65 with AMD Phenom II 1100T and Asus Radeon 6950 No Video Signal

I just did a new computer build with an MSI 890FXA-GD65 motherboard AMD Phenom II 1100T processor and Asus Radeon 6950 graphic card.
    I have a SATA hard drive and optical drive. Memory is Corsair XMS3 4GB PC10666 DDR3 1333MHz 4096MB.
When I turn the system on I have no video signal so I can't see bios. I tried taking everything apart and rebuilding and still nothing.
The power is on to the motherboard and graphic card. The motherboard has 2 LED indicators on.
I am a newbie with the new computer build and need some help. I accidentally pressed the clear CMOS while the power was on. I have no idea if this is going to mess up the motherboard.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Mike

I could not locate this on this specific motherboard. The one issue is that there is a CLR CMOS button on the back and I pressed this when power was on .
I know there is another way to clear the cmos with the jumpers but I didnt do that .
Anyway motherboard still powers up. I took it to a tech to check it out. Don't know anything as of yet. Thanks.

  • High pitch hissing sound from 970A-G46 motherboard with AMD FX 8 core processor

I am getting high pitch hissing sound from 970A-G46 motherboard with AMD FX 8 core processor.
Sound is coming from some place near CPU area.
I tried changing Core C 6 State in BIOS from Enabled to Disabled to fix this issue.
    I also followed steps in following link, w w w . tomshardware.com/forum/292915-30-high-pitched-noise-coming-area
    No luck with above changes.
I heard this is a common problem with MSI motherboards. Is there any fix for this issue.

Quote from: flobelix on 12-January-13, 18:49:48
That is surely no typical problem of MSI mainboards. In fact that is very rare if it is the board.
Tke the board out of case on a non conductive surface with nothing else connected but but mainboard, ram, psu, cpu and vga. Try it again after clearing CMOS (>>Clear CMOS Guide<<)
If you are then 100% sure that it is the board this could be a defect as MSI mainbaords normally don't cause coil whine and I haven't heard that about 970A-G46 so far
I tried clearing CMOS by replacing jumper and loading factory defaults. Still high pitch sound is coming intermittently. As my 30 day period is over with Frys Electronics, How easy to get a replacement board from MSI. Does anyone know the steps?

  • Pavilion a6700y with AMD Phenom X4 9150e -- Unclock to full speed

I have an HP Pavilion a6700y with 6GB DRAM running the AMD Phenom X4 9150e quad core processor.
The processor is "clocked down" to 2000 MHz by HP, but is capable of running at 3200 MHz. How do I increase the clock speed to 3200 MHz?
Do I need to add additional cooling capability? There is one fan on the power supply, another on the side of the case and a third on the processor itself.
What is the risk of unclocking a processor?

    Desert-Aries, welcome to the forum.
HP has the processor locked so it can't be overclocked.

  • HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook starting with Blank White Screen--Help??

I've had an HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook for a couple years now. Today I go to start it up (without the power cord plugged in), and a completely white screen appears. I'm thinking, maybe it's still starting up/working some kinks out. Then I hear the Windows 7 twinkling start up sound that usually happens when you get to your log in screen. So it seems the computer itself is working, but there is zero display on the screen. If anyone has any good advice/experience with this/knows how I can fix it or what I should do, PLEASE let me know! Computer problems are so distressing

I had this problem with my father's pavillion.
There was a broken pin in the screen socket on the motherboard so I guess it was always making poor contact until one day this pin must have broken off completely and the screen would only display completely white.
I inserted a fine solid wire (not multi-strand) into the plug at the right point so that it only just stuck out enough to make contact with what was left of the pin in the socket, whilst being fully inserted into the plug.
I then taped the plug/socket together to make sure it didn't loose contact by coming loose.
Seems to have solve the problem in the short term (but the socket should need replacing for a long-term fix).

  • KA780G not working with AMD Phenom II x4

Hi, I have a KA780G that is currently working just fine with an AMD 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ 2.7 GHz with 8 GB of RAM (OCZ Reaper) and running on Windows 7 64-bit (ultimate edition).
I just purchased and installed an AMD Phenom II x4 940 Black Edition with 3.0 GHz, 8.0 MB Total Cache, socket AM2+.  My problem is that whenever I try to boot the system with this processor, the Windows loading screen just hangs and never gets me to the login screen.  I can access the bios perfectly fine but Windows will not boot.
The cover of the motherboard box does say "AMD Phenom II x4 Ready" so I'm confused.  Anyone know what my problem is or how I can try to fix it?  Thanks in advance.

  • Diagnosing No POST, No Beep MSI 790GX-G65 with AMD Phenom X4 955 BE

Last night I came home to a ceased PC with a frozen screen. PC has been working fine for over 2 years, but CPU has been running a bit hot of late (60C) with occasional BSODs with some ATI driver reference. Updated video drivers a few times. Suspected overheating CPU or ATI. Never overclocked it.
    Specifications:
    CPU: 3.2Ghz Quad-core AMD Phenom X4 955 Black Edition
    M/B: MSI 790GX-G65
BIOS: Don't know. I upgraded it at one point.
    Memory: 4x 2GB DDR3 Apacer (2GB UNB PC3-10600 CL9). Don't have more info right now.
    Video: On-board.
    Hard-drives: 1x 500GB Western Digital (Removed)
Peripheral Devices: PCI Wi-Fi card (Removed)
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    PSU: ISO-500PP Switching PSU, Max Output 420W rated 23.0A @ 12V
    Symptoms:
Black screen with blinking monitor LED (connected via DVI).
All 5 blue M/B LEDs light up.
    No POST.
No Beeps (connected PC speaker to JFP2 according to maunal)
No peripheral activation, e.g. no keyboard lights / mouse.
All funs run (incl. PSU fan).
If USB keyboard is plugged in when powered, keyboard function LED lights up for a second, then dies.
    Suspected Causes:
    Broken CPU
Broken PSU. It is the only component I skimped on with this system (420W), but I was saving money and didn't have a video card DVD drive or anything fancy connected. Worked great until now.
    Things I have tried:
    Left it overnight.
Reseated CPU and heatsink (did not reapply thermal paste).
    Cleaned heatsink under CPU Fan.
Removed PSU and M/B from case.
    Disconnected everything.
Laid M/B on anti-static bag with only power supply and monitor via DVI cable.
Removed all RAM. Starting produces no beeps from PC speaker (via JFP2). Suspect broken CPU.
Some things I have not tried:
    A different PSU
    VGA output
Different AM2 CPU (don't have one)
    New thermal paste
Clearing CMOS and removing battery. Not sure how to do this (do I need to remove CMOS battery and hold clr CMOS button for 60s?)
Since everything on the M/B lights up (incl. blinking Wi-Fi LED when it was connected), I suspect a bricked CPU.
Where do I go from here?
    (edit: added keyboard LED symptom)

    @Fredrik:
Yes, I tried with 1 RAM DIMM in different positions. I connected a PC speaker and my standard speakers via the audio jack (some new M/Bs apparently output to it). I don't have access to another compatible system to try my CPU on. Very infrequent thunderstorms.
    @cronnin:
    1. Placed M/B on unpainted wooden table. Good point about the anti-static bag - I forgot that it conducts. No change in symptoms.
    2. Everything is disconnected. I've tried 1 stick of RAM in different slots and connected a CRT monitor via VGA. No video out.
    3. I connected an old PC speaker to pins 2 and 8 of JFP2 and plugged in normal speakers via green audio jack on M/B. I can't get it to produce any sound whatsoever.
    4. FSB overclock switches are both ON.
    5. I pressed and held CLR_CMOS for 10 seconds while ATX power was connected and system unpowered. Didn't touch the battery.
    More Things I Tried:
Used a multimeter to test my PSU ATX outputs on the board when powered on. I get a steady 12.35V, 5.2V and 3V at the M/B power connector. Starting to think the PSU is OK, but still can't be sure. If there was a lack of current, wouldn't the voltages start to break-down?

  • MSI NF750-G55 with AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition bundle from NewEgg

I purchased this CPU/Mobo bundle from NewEgg recently and am having a hard time getting anything to work.  Here are the components I am using:
    MSI NF750-G55 mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition CPU
    2x4Gb GSkill F3-10666CL9D-8GBSR DDRIII ram
EVGA GeForce GTX550 Ti SLI ready graphics board
ZUMAX X3 Series ATX 650Watt power supply
NZXT M59 ATX Mid tower case
Now to the problem - no POST
I have double checked the CPU seating and installation and its correct, have tried both on board video as well as the GeForce, and no signal to the monitor.  The 4 blue ASP power led's do light up, and the CPU fan spins, but only for a few seconds.  Then it shuts off, then restarts, and keeps cycling like this.  Have tried with no memory installed, same issue.  I have seen several entries on forums for no POST on this mobo.  Can anyone help me here?  Am I looking at a bad mobo or what?  Currently have it out of the case on a non conductive surface.

  • Hewlett Packard Pavilion DM3 notebook pc - with screen problems!

I hope someone can help with this - the laptop is only 3 months old, and has developed a fault - the bottom half of the screen goes into horizontal lines, and pulsates - really hard to describe -  the laptop is still functioning, but for this strange visual problem.  Has anybody any idea what this might be?  My husband is travelling to Singapore in a few days and needs to take the laptop with him!  Many thanks -

OK, here is couple of simple test to find out where the issue is...
    1) Check if BIOS if you are experiancing the same issue
    2) Check on external monitor to see if you have the same issue
if the issue is in BIOS the we have Graphic Card/LCD problem and if the issue in there on external monitor, than we have issue with  Graphics card...

  • Firefox 10.0.2esr closes or crashes on my Windows XP PC with AMD Phenom x6 1100T

Upgraded from FF3.6.28( had no problems with 1100T) and now FF10.0.2 keeps closing or crashes. Identified the problem to be more than 4 core processors with FF. I have developed a workaround, but would like know what FF release fixes this issue ?

I wasn't aware that Firefox had a problem with more than 4 cores in a processor. How did you make the connection?
If you type or paste about:crashes in the address bar and press Enter, you may find some crash IDs. You can click those to link up with Firefox's crash analysis server and see whether any bug reports are associated.
If those are inscrutable (I often find them impossible to unravel), you could post some of the crash IDs here for volunteers to review.
Unrelated to your CPU, Firefox's use of hardware graphics acceleration can cause problems due to driver incompatibilities. Could you try disabling it?
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If you restart Firefox, is stability improved?
Finally, 10.0.2 is quite old now. For your security, you really do need to upgrade sooner rather than later.

  • 990FXA board seemingly incompatible with AMD FX-8120?

So I feel like I must be an idiot, I can't seem to make this work. I bought the bundle of this CPU and motherboard on NewEgg because I figured they'd work together (and yes, it appears on the supported CPU list as well), but I can't make my rig work!
I found that most people just had to update their BIOS, so I put an AMD Sempron in there and did so, but still no dice! Still, when I use the Sempron, it works just fine, but if I use the FX-8120, I get an error 19 and the board shuts off.
    Specs:
    Processor: AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz
Mother board: MSI 990FXA-GD80 (BIOS 11.6)
    Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)
    Video Card: MSI N570GTX-M2D12D5 GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5
Power Supply: Diablotek PHD Series - 2nd Generation PHD650 650W ATX12V v2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply
I've tried using less RAM, swapping cards, everything. It all seems to come down to which processor I use! Any ideas?

    Get a better powersupply.
If you read the reviews here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817822004
Then you see the PSU can't cope one bit.
    Some even exploded
Put something like a Corsair CX-600 in there an you should be fine.

  • MSI NF980-G65 with AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edtion 140 Watt

Do I need to update the bios before I install OS? I have tried 2 of these mobo's and both would shut down during XP installation. The ram I was using was G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666). The board would not restart unless I cleared cmos and that didn't always work. Needed multiple tries sometimes. When it did restart It would show "bad cmos checksum" If it's just a matter of flashing the new bios before I install the OS, then which bios should I use as there are 3 listed on MSI for that board? (1.0, 1.1 and 1.2) Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Ensure that CPU heatsink is properly installed also:
    •   Verify that CPU is not exceeding recommended temperature by checking the CPU temperature in the BIOS under PC Health status
    •    Check CPU heatsink/fan is properly installed
         •    Verify that any cover over the thermal interface on the bottom of the CPU HSF is removed
         •    Verify that CPU HSF is recommended for your CPU
    •    Check for CPU overclocking which may cause overheating
         •    Check CPU FSB clock
         •    Check CPU Vcore voltage
    •    Check computer case for proper ventilation
Check BIOS temp reported in BIOS and check CPU operating voltage.

I wont be gaming on it and other than those programs it will be used for internet. I just need whatever is best for those programs and overall performance. Thanks!

But since then, all my USB had stop functioning I could'nt find the driver for the USB. please somebody help me.
    Thanks

    Hi:
Windows 8 is supposed to have the USB drivers incorporated in its driver database.
The only suggestion I can offer, would be to install the chipset driver directly from AMD and see if that restores functionality to the USB 3 ports.
