HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC, multimedia "previous, pause/play, next" (f6 f7 f8) keys not working

Hello
My Laptop is around 3 years old next month, the multimedia keys have worked 100% every single day since then, and I use them a lot to listen to music.
They have suddenly stopped working yesterday, and all my other multimedia function keys work perfectly.
In addiction to this, my bluetooth speakers pause button doesn't work on the Laptop, but works on my other devices.
I have disabled and enabled again the action keys in BIOS, removed and installed HP Quick Launch, and everything I have seen on the internet that could help, and it's still the same.
Help!
Thanks.

  • Global HotKey for Pause/Play,Next Song, etc.

It would be nice to have an Global Hotkey so you can pause/play your music while browsing and not switching between screens. Or when you are gaming and you want another song but you don't want to alt tab and stay idle, a (customizable?)  Global Hotkey(i.g. ctrl+shift+right) would be such an great improvement in the usefulness of Spotify.

Well, there is a simple solution to your inquiry if you use Mac OSX Lion. I suppose that you, just like me, don't want to cram your toolbar with extra icons and I also suppose that you use an external keyboard that lacks the playpause/next/previous buttons.
    Here's your 5-min solution :)
Open up the Automator Application (Applications/Automator.app)
Create a new document (⌘N) and choose the "Service" type for your document.
On the "Service receives selected" item in the top side of the window select "no input" from the dropdown.
Search for "Run Applescript" from the searchbar on the left side of the window.
Drag the "Run Applescript" item in the main window area.
Delete the (* Your script goes here *) line and paste this instead:
    tell application "Spotify" to playpause
Save your script (File > Save or ⌘S) and give it a meaningful name like Spotify PlayPause :D
Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts and select Services from the left column.
Scroll down to the General Section and find your Spotify PlayPause item.
Click the add shortcut button and press the combination of keys that will be your shortcut. (eg. I gave it the ⌃⌘P shortcut).
Test that it's working by clicking on System Preferences (next to the Apple Logo on top of your screen) > Services > Spotify Play Pause. (Actually this step is necessary for the shortcut to be registered to your system).
You're done! Your shortcut is now available to you, in whichever program you have open.
PS. In order to create a next or previous track shortcut, you should follow the above procedure, but on step 6 you input
tell application "Spotify" to next track
tell application "Spotify" to previous track
    respectively.
If you have any questions feel free to ask :)

  • HP Pavilion tx2500z - Default Function Keys not working

I have a HP Pavilion tx2500z (model: KD436AV) laptop with Windows 7 64 bit OS installed. Since last few months, I am not able to use default function keys (F1, F2...F12) and other keys at the top row of the keyboard, including Pg Up, Pg Down, Home, End, Insert, Delete. However, all the Action Keys available on these keys are working without pressing Fn Key (e.g. Sleep, Brightness, num lock etc). I get same Action Key behaviour even after pressing Fn Key.
It looks like, somehow system is locked in action key mode and I am not able to come out of it. I tried to upgrade Bios (currently on latest F.0F version) and also tried to disable the Action Key mode in BIOS, but Action Key mode is not available in BIOS of this computer. Even to enter BIOS, I faced problem because F10 key was not working to enter BIOS setup. I had to connect external keyboard to enter BIOS.
I am disperately looking for help to come out of this situation. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
An idea for you would be to test the keyboard in a different enviroment ro see if it's hardware or not.
We can check the keys by booting into the recovery partition and opening a command prompt.
    Power down notebook
Press power button then tap F11 until the screen says recovery at the bottom left or says Windows is Loading files. If it shows a different menu on your screen you may have press it too late or continues to load Windows you may have an issue w/ the partition.
Next when it loads into the menu choose an option so the program is slected. I select "System Recovery" then at the next menu press FN+SHIFT+D
At the commpand prompt window that pops up test the keys w/ issues.

  • Pavilion g6 B6E08AV Win8 64-bit several keys not working.

Pavilion g6 B6E08AV Win8 64-bit delivered/received 12-22-12 for Christmas. Last couple weeks [q, w, e, r, u, i, o, p, right shift key, zero & enter on number pad, left & up arrow keys] stopped working.  Must use on-screen keyboard. Very disappointed/upset after chatting online w/tech. He wanted to send replacement kybrd for me to replace myself...(NOT). Alternative= send me a box to ship laptop to repair center, 7-9 day process! I can't believe there is not an easier/faster way to replace a simple keyboard; like take in to a local partner. I am even more disappointed that a farely new unit already has a hardware failure.

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue with the keyboard on the notebook. Now, if you're in warranty and want the replacement to be free that would be the best option.
If you're not in warranty and looking to replace the keyboard yourself you can look into this one which the same exact keyboard that you have (if you're located in the US.)This is the only keyboard I could find that your notebook supports.
Other than that I would suggest going with the replacement HP is offering you. Also, you could always ask for them to give you expedited shipping.
Hope this helps. If you need anything else let me know.

  • Pavilion 15-b142dx Some Keyboard keys not working

A friend gave me their Pavilion 15-b142dx  sleekbook, apparently AFTER they spilled some type of liquid in it. I was able to revive the computer, however, there is still a problem with the keyboard.  When the keyboard is installed in the laptop, several of the keys do not work. However, when I take it out (and suspend it with some plastic) it works fine.  I have disconnected the ribbon cable, and taken some alcohol to clean up the area. I have also been able to run the HP diagnostics on bootup, both short and extended versions, and they come back ok.  Additionally, I connected an external keyboard and it worked fine. I have searched the forum for this type of question and didn't see it. Has anyone else had this problem, or am I looking at replacing the keyboard?
I currently am running windows 8.1. I do not get any error messages, but I did notice HP does not include a keyboard key test in its diagnostics.
    This question was solved.

    Hi there @MrKen99
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that some of your keys are not working, after some liquid decided to pay an unwanted visit to the board. I am happy to assist you with this.
In my sordid past I have seen some really messed up keyboards, due to similar things, coffee, cola, water, whatever. My most memorable was someone who brought me a computer that was used in a kitchen and was close to a deep fat fryer, and the keyboard was not only coated with oil and grease but a build up of fuzzy dust all throughout the keyboard. In that case I recommended a replacement as the cost to clean it was more expensive than a new one.
Anyway, it sounds as if you have already tried to clean it, but if you did not pop off the offending/non-working keys, the contacts could be "tacky". Make note of the keys that are having the problem and treat them individually. This document shows how to remove and replace keys from a standard notebook keyboard.
    Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)
If you do not have any success doing that then, I would look at either replacing the keyboard, or using an external keyboard. If you choose a replacement you can look at the service manual for it, and it will list the supported parts.

  • Font rendering issue & multimedia keys not working

Hi, yesterday i switched to KDEmod 4.1 and I have two major problems...
One is font rendering issue... I did not change anything in my font-related packages (cairo, freetype, fontconfig, libxft) and i have to add that this setup worked perfectly in KDEmod 3.5.9, but now it looks like this:
This bug occurs only in qt apps and mostly in kmenu... i.e firefox renders my fonts flawlessly...
Second problem are multimedia keys on my keyboard...
They worked in KDE 3.5.9, but now I cannot set them up properly... Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't...
KDE recognizes the pressed key, but when I assign specific action and press the key, just nothing happens...

You might be able to solve your font issue by going to System Settings -> Appearance -> Fonts.  I enable ant-aliasing.  I also clicked on configure and select "Use sub-pixel rendering" to RGB and the hinting style to Full.  I also use the Force fonts DPI to 96 DPI.  This makes the fonts pleasing to my eyes.
This is how I got my multimedia keys to work in KDE4.1:
Go to System Settings -> Regional and Language and make sure to set the County or region to your location.
khotkeys needs to be running.  I added it to the autostarted progam list. System Settings -> Advanced tab -> Autostart
When I got the multimedia keys working, I was really tring to get the keyboard shortcuts to work.  In addition to the above steps, I also deleted
~/.kde4/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc.  I do not know if deleting this file is needed to get the multimedia keys working, but it was to get the keyboard shortcuts woring.
    Restart X
Go to  System Settings -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts
I set the volume control in the KMix component section.
To get the keyboard shortcuts to work, go to the menu editor and select the program you want to create a shortcuts for.  Click on the advanced tab and create the shortcut in the shortcut field.  Save.
Then go to  System Settings -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts. Change the component to KHotkeys.  Select the Program and then select the default shortcut that you just created.  (This works for the multimedia keys aswell).
    Hope this helps,

It's what Nokia will do about it now and how do we alert them?
Well this is an official Nokia forum and there are representatives that look over the forum so I'm sure it'll be picked up as an issue and worked upon.
Can someone do a check for me please as my multimedia key started working for me again, and I don't recall restarting it (or it rebooting) between the alarm going off and the multimedia key starting to work (unfortunately I haven't been able to find an "uptime" tool for the Symbian 60 environment).
Could you close all open applications on your phone, then goto Tools->Memory card and backup the contents of your phone onto your memory card, and THEN try the multimedia key to see whether it starts working again ?
If it does, then I think I know what is happening. I've noticed that if I have MobiPocket open and do a backup of my phone contents onto memory card, what the phone does is actually close MobiPocket down so that it hasn't got any files open, then back everything up, then re-opens it for me. If this is the case, and the multimedia key starts working again for other users after carrying this action out, then it may be that the backup operation is closing a process which has been left running in the background of the phone once a recurring alarm has gone off.

    Edward

  • HP Pavilion x2 11-h003sa windows key not working

About 3 weeks after I got myHP Pavilion x2 11-h003sa 11.6" 2 in 1 - Laptop, the touch windows home key stopped working also touch keyboard vibration stopped. After looking I thought it was 8.1 so I used a recovery usb from HP no help still not working....tried shutting down with 10 second power still no joy, all drivers are upto date....anyone know how to fix it.

Hi @Jason4771  , welcome to the HP Forums. I understand your WIndows home key stopped working, and the vibration has stopped on the keyboard. I have not found a specific way to disable/enable the vibration, so if you are unable to locate such a setting in your keyboard settings, I suspect you may have a hardware issue.

  • HP 15-d069wm TouchSmart Notebook PC keyboard certain keys not working

Certain keys (space bar, left shift key, z, x, c, v, b, n, m , comma, period, /) and number keys (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9) on the keyboard of my laptop are not working. I already tried to do several hard resets (disconnecting power supply and taking out battery) but that didn't help. I also "uninstalled" the keyboard using the device manager, that didn't work either.
