HP pavilion g6. stopped responding card

Bought powerful expensive laptop. Everyone was happy. But then the video card stopped responding. He went into the device manager. There should be two video cards
Intel RD (it all okay, the first weak graphics card)
ATI Radeon 7670m (the one that is missing)
Instead ATI Radeon 7670m I had the inscription standard vga graphics adapter.
Tried to download the driver using a variety of programs to search for and detect drivers to search for drivers ID - nothing helps. Maybe there is not sought, if that equipment ID:
PCI \ VEN_1002 & DEV_6040 & SUBSYS_00000000 & REV_00
PCI \ VEN_1002 & DEV_6040 & SUBSYS_00000000
PCI \ VEN_1002 & DEV_6040 & REV_00
PCI \ VEN_1002 & DEV_6040
PCI \ VEN_1002 & DEV_6040 & CC_030000
PCI \ VEN_1002 & DEV_6040 & CC_0300
But I for these ID and found nothing. Read a lot on this issue on the forums, tips used, but did not solve the problem. Basically there "Congratulations," welcome to the club of disappointed customers HP ".

  • Volume key on HP Pavilion dv7 stops responding from now and then, also issue with finger scanner?

First problem I've been having would have to be the finger scanner. I've only been using this to sign into Windows, but after a day or so of use it would occasionally stop responding (forcing me to sign in manually or reset to fix it).
For the Volume keys, I've been having trouble getting them to adjust the sound from time to time. Sometimes it works, others it wont (even though the icon screen appears showing they're being pressed, there's no change in volume). I'd end up having to bump the vol up or down manually in the bottom right corner to get it working again). But after awhile the issue ends up reoccuring again.
I can live with the finger scanning problem but this volume thing is starting to get to me.

    Hello Laurie,
What is your product number and operating system?  I'll send you a link to the steps to help get everything back, once I get this info from you.
    Thanks!

  • Firefox 4 appears to be causing my graphics card to stop responding for no reason, since upgrading to 4.0.

I'm not sure if its a common occurance for other users, but since the 'hardware accelerated support' with Firefox 4 release, firefox seems to regularly cause my graphics card (Nvidea GT320M) on my laptop to 'stop responding' for a few seconds every so often, usually when I have flash websites such as youtube open. It isn't a huge deal since it restarts working again after a few seconds of a black screen, but its annoying non-the-less.
An example of such: earlier today i started up firefox 4, and when it was loading the tabs, the screen turned black, and when the screen came back on, pop up in the windows task bar told me that the graphics card had stoped responding but successfully recovered. Not the first time, but becoming a more regular occurrence.

You seem to be running older versions of Flash and Java plugins. I'd recommend you update to the latest versions first of all to see whether the problem persists or not.
The easiest way to check is to go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page.
If that fails to solve the problem, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it works correctly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

This is tough to guess because there isn't a lot of information to work with.  I'll provide some basic steps you can take to see if it helps. Try clearing the temporary internet files, cache, and other non-essential stuff from your system.    You can do this in tools menu, then internet options.  There is a good cleaning freeware program called CCleaner. I use that and it finds a lot of junk and discards it.  It also cleans up the registry for you as well. If your hard drive is very full this could slow it down as well. see if there are files you can backup off the drive or delete to free up space.  It's also possible that your system is dusty and dirty and it's slowing down the processor. Maybe it's time to clean the vents and see if the heatsink in the PC is clogged with dust.  Heat can also slow a PC down especially if it's left on a lot so make sure it's cleaned as well.
    Hope  these tips help you.

  • HP Pavilion DV6-6077er Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

    Hello!
I am using this laptop for 3rd year already. OS is Windows 7, every standard driver is downloaded from the official page and installed.
I have a problem, which sometimes occurs while using web browser, graphic-editing software and some games.
The screen starts flickering and then recovers with a message: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered".
I am usind official AMD drivers from 2011.
Before I have tried to install unofficial drivers or drivers from AMD web site, but all of them had random BSODs and errors. Only the official driver works stable, but sometimes causes this error.
Is there any possible fix for it?

    Hi Kakofonn,
At this point I would recommend doing either a System Restore to when it worked or if you don't use restore points do a full System Recovery. If you go this route make sure that you back up your information you don't want to lose.  If you don't want to do that then I would recommend calling HP as they will be able to remotely login to your computer. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 or start here if you live outside of North America.

  • Windows Server 2012 - Hyper-V - iSCSI SAN - All Hyper-V Guests stops responding and extensive disk read/write

We have a problem with one of our deployments of Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V with a 2 node cluster connected to a iSCSI SAN.
    Our setup:
Hosts - Both run Windows Server 2012 Standard and are clustered.
HP ProLiant G7, 24 GB RAM, 2 teamed NIC dedicated to Virtual Machines and Management, 2 teamed NIC dedicated to iSCSI storage. - This is the primary host and normaly all VMs run on this host.
HP ProLiant G5, 20 GB RAM, 1 NIC dedicated to Virtual Machines and Management, 2 teamed NIC dedicated to iSCSI storage. - This is the secondary host that and is intended to be used in case of failure of the primary host.
We have no antivirus on the hosts and the scheduled ShadowCopy (previous version of files) is switched of.
    iSCSI SAN:
    QNAP NAS TS-869 Pro, 8 INTEL SSDSA2CW160G3 160 GB i a RAID 5 with a Host Spare. 2 Teamed NIC.
    Switch:
DLINK DGS-1210-16 - Both the network cards of the Hosts that are dedicated to the Storage and the Storage itself are connected to the same switch and nothing else is connected to this switch.
    Virtual Machines:
    3 Windows Server 2012 Standard - 1 DC, 1 FileServer, 1 Application Server.
1 Windows Server 2008 Standard Exchange Server.
All VMs are using dynamic disks (as recommended by Microsoft).
    Updates
We have applied the most resent updates to the Hosts, WMs and iSCSI SAN about 3 weeks ago with no change in our problem and we continually update the setup.
    Normal operation
Normally this setup works just fine and we see no real difference in speed in startup, file copy and processing speed in LoB applications of this setup compared to a single host with 2 10000 RPM Disks. Normal network speed is 10-200 Mbit, but occasionally
we see speeds up to 400 Mbit/s of combined read/write for instance during file repair
    Our Problem
Our problem is that for some reason all of the VMs stops responding or responds very slowly and you can for instance not send CTRL-ALT-DEL to a VM in the Hyper-V console, or for instance start task manager when already logged in.
Symptoms (i.e. this happens, or does not happen, at the same time)
I we look at resource monitor on the host then we see that there is often an extensive read from a VHDX of one of the VMs (40-60 Mbyte/s) and a combined write speed to many files in \HarddiskVolume5\System Volume Information\{<someguid and no file extension>}.
    See iamge below.
The combined network speed to the iSCSI SAN is about 500-600 Mbit/s.
When this happens it is usually during and after a VSS ShadowCopy backup, but has also happens during hours where no backup should be running (i.e. during daytime when the backup has finished hours ago according to the log files). There is however
not that extensive writes to the backup file that is created on an external hard drive and this does not seem to happen during all backups (we have manually checked a few times, but it is hard to say since this error does not seem leave any traces in event
    viewer).
We cannot find any indication that the VMs themself detect any problem and we see no increase of errors (for example storage related errors) in the eventlog inside the VMs.
The QNAP uses about 50% processing Power on all cores.
We see no dropped packets on the switch.
(I have split the image to save horizontal space).
Unable to recreate the problem / find definitive trigger
We have not succeeded in recreating the problem manually by, for instance, running chkdsk or defrag in VM and Hosts, copy and remove large files to VMs, running CPU and Disk intensive operations inside a VM (for instance scan and repair a database file).
    Questions
Why does all VMs stop responding and why is there such intensive Read/Writes to the iSCSI SAN?
Could it be anything in our setup that cannot handle all the read/write requests? For instance the iSCSI SAN, the hosts, etc?
What can we do about this? Should we use MultiPath IO instead of NIC teaming to the SAN, limit bandwith to the SAN, etc?

    Hi,
    > All VMs are using dynamic disks (as recommended by Microsoft).
If this is a testing environment, it’s okay, but if this a production environment, it’s not recommended. Fixed VHDs are recommended for production instead of dynamically expanding or differencing VHDs.
Hyper-V: Dynamic virtual hard disks are not recommended for virtual machines that run server workloads in a production environment
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee941151(v=WS.10).aspx
    > This is the primary host and normaly all VMs run on this host.
According to your posting, we know that you have Cluster Shared Volumes in the Hyper-V cluster, but why not distribute your VMs into two Hyper-V hosts.
Use Cluster Shared Volumes in a Windows Server 2012 Failover Cluster
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612868.aspx
    > 2 teamed NIC dedicated to iSCSI storage.
Use Microsoft MultiPath IO (MPIO) to manage multiple paths to iSCSI storage. Microsoft does not support teaming on network adapters that are used to connect to iSCSI-based storage devices. (At least it’s not supported until Windows Server 2008 R2. Although
Windows Server 2012 has built-in network teaming feature, I don’t article which declare that Windows Server 2012 network teaming support iSCSI connection)
    Understanding Requirements for Failover Clusters

    > I have seen using MPIO suggests using different subnets, is this a requirement for using MPIO
    > or is this just a way to make sure that you do not run out of IP adressess?
What I found is: if it is possible, isolate the iSCSI and data networks that reside on the same switch infrastructure through the use of VLANs and separate subnets. Redundant network paths from the server to the storage system via MPIO will maximize availability
and performance. Of course you can set these two NICs in separate subnets, but I don’t think it is necessary.
    > Why should it be better to not have dedicated wireing for iSCSI and Management?
It is recommended that the iSCSI SAN network be separated (logically or physically) from the data network workloads. This ‘best practice’ network configuration optimizes performance and reliability.
Check that and modify cluster configuration, monitor it and give us feedback for further troubleshooting.

  • N460GTX Cyclone 768D5/OC blue artifacts and stopped responding

In the last month I have been having issues with my graphics card to the point that I can't play any game (at all, always stops responding), flash on websites cause video driver "stopped responding" error, vlc or media player videos cause stopped responding error, and any 3d screen saver preview in windows 7 causes artifacts and sometimes the stopped responding error.  I can still do anything 2D fine but always haver little blue artifacts all over the screen.  Current drivers are Nvidia 266.58, I have tried MSI drivers, Nvidia 260.* drivers and a set of older Nvidia drivers that supposedly didn't have the stopping issues but all had problems even after fully wiping the old drivers on every install.
Given the power issues I have seen in past threads I hooked up my Kill-a-watt again (I always baseline my systems on burn in with that), and I am finding my Wattage draw hasn't changed.  Kill A Watt measures 188W avg Draw, Peak 250W.  All drives set on RAID to spin up sequentially so I don't get the max draw you'd expect.  I ran this with superPi, prime95 and memtest and all run fine with max draw I saw at 250W.  I tried to run 3d benchmark tests but like all 3d apps they all crash after video card not responding error.  When building this I carefully specd out the power supply with conservative numbers and multiple online calculators, this PS should be able to handle adding 2 more 1TB drives as long as I don't do SLI (don't have room in case anyway with RAID controller).
I have tried all I can think of to resolve this but nothing helps and I'm thinking it's got to be an issue with the card since nothing in my config has changed.  Is it the card for sure and will need RMA?
    Here are my specs:
    Asus P6T WS Pro Mobo
    Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz LGA 1366 130W

  • X1 Carbon Touch Gen2 (20A7005UMN) - touch screen stopped responding

    Hi,
I have the Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch, new as of april 2014, and since last week, the touch screen has stopped responding to touch inputs. Before this it has been working and behaving perfectly.
I have tried to turn the laptop entirely off and on, reboots... No effect. The screen simply acts like it never was touch.
The HID driver is present and claims to be working. I tried to reinstall it and it does so with no errors or warnings. I also tried to reinstall the monitor and graphics card drivers. The Tablet control panel icon offers a calibrate option but Reset is disabled. The calibrate doesn't help because it doesn't respond to touch.
System says it has touch with 10 finger inputs.
Windows 8.1 Update 1, Enterprise SKU
    Any advice is welcome.
UPDATE! Touch works when I lay the screen out flat. But if I return it to any angle, it stops working. Is this related to LayFlat mode or is there a connection fault in the display for touch input so only when I lay it flat it has contact?
    Software or hardware?

I have kept checking on statements from Lenovo about the Thinkpad X1 Carbon for 7 months now, and I have not seen any indication of plans to change the keyboard. I have heard numerous complaints first hand about the keyboard, and the tens of reviews that I have read from around the world the last half year, there is doubt to outright irritation about the 2014 X1 Carbons keyboard and touchpad (the further specs of the 2014 X1 Carbon are of Rolls Royce impression, but because of the ruined keyboard and erroneous touchpad, we have decided not to consider the X1 Carbon further.
    Observations:
Professionals want a large number of direct, true and tactile keys in traditional locations for efficient work. Lenovo has moved away from this fact by taking away keys, creating a touch strip while there is a touch screen already on it, and by changing the position of essential keys or removing them completely to be replaced by non-intuitive key combinations. The Red Dot award was truely earned for the weight and looks of the screen and case, but the keyboard is the weak link that makes the chain weak. Lenovo, Lenovo, Lenovo, what have you done?

  • Why does Shockwave Flash "stop responding" only around 1-3 pm? Works fine mornings and evenings.

For the past couple of weeks I've been having this issue. Everything works fine all morning, and then mid-afternoon, Mozilla goes haywire and I get an "unresponsive plugin" error message, telling me Shockwave Flash "has stopped responding". It derails my entire computer system, everything ends up "not responding" (every single window, tab, program, even pictures and Word documents) then after I spend half an hour moving at the speed of molasses to save, close, and restart things, then it continues working just fine for the rest of the evening. It ONLY happens around 1 to 3 pm.
It's aggravating to say the least. And I can't figure out why. Everything I have from Adobe is up to date, all of my plugins in general are up to date, and I've been using the same exact websites for work for years but this has only cropped up recently.
Any ideas? Should I just take a long lunch and avoid my computer from 1 to 3?
PS: I'm the only person home, and my wifi requires a password, so it's my internet service fighting a crowd or anything.

I'm not paying for Norton for the toolbar, I like the Internet Security options in general.
It has this "Vault" that stores all your website passwords, and "Identity Cards" to store financial information, addresses, etc. I feel safer having this information stored in Norton (which I gave the most unique and secure password I could think of) rather than storing these details on individual websites.
Heaven forbid anyone ever steal my computer, they won't be able to access ANYTHING unless they can hack into Norton, which is the only password I hand-type. Before I got it, I used to have Firefox save it for me, but there was no security in that. Anybody could open up, say, Amazon.com, and log right into my account, and instantly have access to my credit card and change the mailing address. Using Norton Internet Security, they can't get into any of my accounts (shopping, banking, email, etc), and even if they do, they won't find any sensitive info available.
As for Firefox 22, I just clicked "update" the other day (before then canceling) because it specifically said the plugin wasn't available, and I need it for the options I just mentioned. The next time it prompts me, I'll look again and see if it's ready yet.

  • Magic trackpad stops responding on wakeup after upgrade to Mavericks

I have a 27" iMac purchased in July 2011.  I never had any issues with the trackpad before upgrading to Mavericks.  I upgraded a few months ago and started having sporadic issues with the trackpad.  When the iMac woke up, everything seemed fine at first.  About once or twice a week, after it had been working for about a minute (just enough time to start web browsing), the trackpad would suddenly stop responding.  It then progressed to being more consistent (every other day).  The cursor was still visible and the keyboard still worked.  The trackpad was still on but apparently not connected.  I thought it was the batteries, but new batteries didn't help.  I could get the trackpad to work again by using Spotlight to open the Bluetooth System Preferences.  The trackpad worked immediately when Bluetooth preferences were opened (nothing needed to be changed; it would just start working).  However, it would stop responding after about ten minutes.  It was interesting because even if I left the Bluetooth System Preferences open, it would still stop responding after about ten minutes.  I could use the keyboard to make the preferences window active and it would immediately work again.  It would then work again for a few minutes and then stop.  I found that removing the trackpad and re-connecting it would cause the trackpad to start working again more consistently.  It would only stop if the iMac went back to sleep for an extended period (overnight).
For anyone else with this problem, helpful keyboard shortcuts are cmd + spacebar to open Spotlight, type bluetooth, use the arrow keys to go to Bluetooth system preferences (hit enter), use the arrow keys to go down to the trackpad, press spacebar to unconnect, again to confirm, and then after the trackpad is automatically rediscovered, press spacebar again to pair it.
This went on for about a month, when I had what I suspect was an unrelated problem.  The trackpad started acting as if it was being held down (left click was always being pressed).  I took it into the Apple Store and they confirmed it was broken.  I was a little disappointed since it had basically expired about a week after my AppleCare expired, but luckily the folks at Apple took care of me.  (Thanks Apple!).  At that point I had a brand new trackpad.
The issue had gone back to happening every other week or so.  I thought it might be interference, but I've since physically moved apartments and all the objects around it. It's been a couple months now and it's back to happening every couple of days or so.  Since the trackpad is brand new, I have to think this is a software issue.  I've noticed the following consistently:
    1) It only stops responding if I've put it to sleep (I usually do so with a hot corner, but I don't have any reason to believe that's related) and haven't used the computer for more than 12 hours.
    2) It'll always work right when it wakes up.  It'll stop fairly consistently 1 - 2 minutes after waking up.
    3) Time Machine seems to be busy doing something when the trackpad stops (the little icon is spinning in a circle if I have a Finder window open).  Uncertain if it's always doing something or if it's coincidence that I've noticed it more recently.
    4) As mentioned above, opening the Bluetooth System Preferences will always get the trackpad to respond, but then it'll stop after a few minutes.  Unpairing and reestablishing the pairing will fix the issue for awhile (at the very least until the next time the iMac sleeps).
    5) I may be imagining this, but before upgrading to Mavericks, I think it used to show the message that the trackpad was connected when the iMac woke up.  I no longer see that message unless I remove the connection and setup the pairing again.
I've seen lots of people with various issues with Bluetooth connectivity and Mavericks.  I'm on 10.9.4.  No one seems to have exactly this issue.  If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them.
    Thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 has stopped responding

This is a problem I've been encountering for quite some time now, and it began as soon as I installed the software. A short while after opening and using Photoshop, the program will "stop responding" and be forced to close.
I use photoshop for drawing. The brush I use is a simple round brush at an angle of 45 degrees with 10% roundness. The opacity, flow, and size jitter are all set to pen pressure. I use a wacom intuos 4 tablet and the drivers are up to date. I don't know if any of this information will be relevant or helpful but I have included it in case there is some sort of known issue with any of these settings.
I have encountered this problem on both my laptop and desktop computers.
    Desktop Specs:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66 GHz
    Memory: 8 GB
    HD: ~600 GB
    OS: 64-bit Vista Home Premium
Video Card:  ATI Radeon HD 4600 series
    Laptop Specs:
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB
    HD: ~600 GB
    OS: OS X 10.6.7
Video Chips: AMD Radeon HD 6750M
                       Intel HD Graphics 3000
So far to fix this problem I have tried resetting my preferences, reinstalling photoshop, turning off OpenGL drawing, formatting my hard drive and reinstalling from the ground up, trying the appropraite OS versions on the two computers listed above, using previous versions of photoshop (CS4, CS3), updating photoshop to the most recent version, and using a different tablet.
Here is the event viewer log:
Faulting application Photoshop.exe, version 12.0.4.0, time stamp 0x4d9d8f8e, faulting module Photoshop.exe, version 12.0.4.0, time stamp 0x4d9d8f8e, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000001b3e625, process id 0x654, application start time 0x01cc4fef8766c74f.
    Please. Please help.

Thank you for the response Noel.
I updated my Catalyst display driver to 11.7, but the problem persists.
Here is the log from this crash, if its of any use:
Faulting application Photoshop.exe, version 12.0.4.0, time stamp 0x4d9d8f8e, faulting module Photoshop.exe, version 12.0.4.0, time stamp 0x4d9d8f8e, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000001b3e625, process id 0x188c, application start time 0x01cc5007c0a93d4f.
    What else can I try?

  • IPhoto 6.0.3 Stops Responding When I Try to Edit, Except . . .

. . . when I set it to edit in Full Screen or via an outside like like PS.
By going in to Preferences I can set it to edit when I double-click an image with different actions via:
    In Main Window: Stops Responding
    In Separate Window: Stops Responding
    Using Full Screen: Works
    In (other app): Works
The same applies when right-clicking and image and selecting Editing methods from the menu.
I have rebooted, used "Rebuild Photo Library" dialog to rebuild the thumbs and images in iPhoto's library. I have repaired disk permissions, run MacJanitor and rebooted again.
I have not reinstalled iPhoto 6.0.3.
I have seen numerous references to identical issues here and elsewhere on the 'net on OS X troubleshooting boards.
I have about 9500 images in my library. There was a difference this time in how I acquired the new images I'm working with. Normally I import images into my Picture folder using Image Capture from my Nikon D70. The files are all JPEGs about 2-3.5MB each. This time I imported them into my wife's Dell laptop using the Windows Image Capture import (not sure what they call it) and then when home, I connected the Dell up to my network and dragged the folder into my Mac's Picture folder, then imported the images into iPhoto by dragging them.
Otherwise they appear to be identical in permission, file type and metadata. And the freezes occur when trying to edit the new Dell-drags or old, directly-imported D70 files.

    Hi Dave,
And thanks for taking the time to respond.
This is what Console is telling me when I first open iPhoto:

Then I clear the above and try to "Edit" a photo:
Zero, zip, nada, iPhoto just stops responding. OK, so I restart iPhoto and try "Edit in Separate Window and Console says:

    2006-06-05 16:43:09.824 iPhoto[241] Could not find image named 'zoom-upH'.
(and of course, it iPhoto stops responding.
"Edit in Full Screen" and "Edit in External Editor" both work fine and result in no Console responses.
So now let's try "Slideshow" and this is the Console response when I select two images and click "Slideshow":
    ===== Monday, June 5, 2006 4:50:07 PM US/Eastern =====
    2006-06-05 16:50:10.545 iPhoto[251] Could not find image named 'tools-switchLeft-N'.

    2006-06-05 16:50:10.616 iPhoto[251] Could not find image named 'tools-checkboxOff-P'.
    (and of course iPhoto freezes)
So the main culprits are "Edit", "Edit in Separate Window" and "Slideshow" while "Edit in Full Screen" and "Edit in External Editor" both work fine as do the other controls such as "Rotate", "Edit" (the "edit" button at the bottom of the viewer window which opens the "Edit in Full Screen" function), "Card", "Calendar", "Book", "Email", "Order Prints", "iWeb", "Photocast" and "Play" which all work every time.
I have since reinstalled the combined OS X 10.4.6 updater, the iPhoto 6.0.3 updater, booted into Safe Mode and tried all of the above (identical results) and unmounted all volumes except the OS volume and tried everything (same result). I also deleted all of the images that I imported from my wife's Dell machine and emptied the trash and then restarted.
I tried the suggestion of checking permissions of image files, but permissions are all correct.
I have no idea where to head next with this.

  • Videos freeze + IE stops responding after 5 mins

I have been having trouble with Youtube videos. Every single video will freeze after 5 minutes. However, the audio will continue playing until the entire browser stops responding. The video eventually resumes after the browser recovers.
    I have tried IE 9 and 10
I have tried adobe flash player 11.7 and 10.3
I have tried disabling hardware acceleration
I have cleared my browsing history
I tried updating my graphics card
    I tried software rendering
This problem doesn't occur in Opera.

Try increasing the KeepAlive timeout for the proxy server. Make it 65 seconds or so (MSIE has a default KA timeout of 60 seconds, and it gets really grumpy if the server drops the KA connection before its own timeout happens).

For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
