HP Pavilion M7-1015dx (0% of the System Memory tested OK)

I own an HP Pavilion laptop Model: m7-1015dx It was factory installed with Windows 7 (64 bit)
8GB Memory / 1 TB Hard drive (5400 RPM)
8GB DDR3 SDRAM (2 DIMM)
My son spilled a drink into the keyboard of my laptop. When I discovered the problem, I turned off the computer, removed the battery, turned it upside down and let it dry for five days.
After turning it on, I discovered that the OS system was missing. Prior to the spill, I had upgraded the OS by installing Windows 8.0 Pro. Initially having the 8.0 Pro disks, I thought I could just install the software and all would be fine. I later discovered that I need to install the Recovery disks first, before installing 8.0. (I've ordered disks. They are on their way.)
I ran tests.....(I've downloaded photos of each test.)
First, it looks like I've fried my Hard Drive. I have removed the hard drive and inserted it into a USB HDD docking station in hopes to retreive all of my files. The docking station is detected by the computer WITHOUT the hard drive snapped in, but...is NOT detected when the hard drive is connected. (This analysis makes me think all of my files are gone.)
Question: Can a professional retreive my lost files off of the hard drive?
Second, one of the other tests, shows 0% of the system memory tested OK. Can I assume that I've also lost my 8GB Memory? If I am correct, would that be 8GB DDR3 SDRAM (2 DIMM)  ?
Question: Can I purchase two new Dimm cards to replace the ones that I think are also "fried"?
When I inserted the 8.0 Pro software, the computer detected the software program and looked as if it were going to install it after I keyed in the Product Key Code....so to me the CD drive is in working order....as well as the processor.
Also, they keyboard and the keyboard back light works and fully functional as well. I haven't had an opportunity to test the speakers or the preinstalled webcam.
Question: Is it worth it for me to purchase a new hard drive and the (2 DIMM) or do you think my computer is a lost case?
Again, I have downloaded pictures of the computer screens when I ran the computer tests.
Any help, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Caren4u2. Sorry to hear about the accident. Spilling liquid on electronics is never fun, although I have experienced the cliche 'peanut butter sandwich' in my Blu-Ray drive.
Data recovery is possible. Most liquid damage on a hard drive, just damages the hard drive controller, leaving the actual data in tact. A local computer shop might have a trick or two which MIGHT recover data,  but if you are serious about it, you will have to look into one of the bigger companies which have specialized equipment to take the platters out of your drive to recover data. This usually costs big bucks. I have no specific advice on this, other than 'research' and weight the pros and cons of keeping the data vs losing the data forever.
If the system is failing the memory test, it is not possible to determine if it is RAM related  Due to the nature of the damage liquid can cause. The memory might be fine but the system board is possibly not capable of testing the RAM accurately.  It is hard to say without testing the RAM in a comparable notebook to see if they function or not. If you are just hedging your bets, RAM is a less expensive fix. A local computer store might be able to verify if the RAM is working rather quickly.
To find out the base costs of repair, you should contact support. Also you should ask to verify if you have an ADP (Accidental Damage Protection) warranty or not, that would be a game changer for you:

  • Read the system memory

    Hi ,
i want to read the data from system memory.Im having both virtual and physical address. Is it possible to read the data using virtual or physical address. If it possible pls give an example vi
    kavi
    kavi

Without a kernel device driver this is going to be a pain in the a** no matter what you do. We are in 2011 not 1975 where protected mode was not even known. The Visual C example uses technicques that were appropriate back in DOS and Windows 3.1 times, (though you usually had to write assembly anyhow to do such things at all), but in 2011 we have protected mode Winodws 32 and 64 bit, and Linux and Mac OS X. All these systems specifically abstract the hardware away from the application level and prevent an application actively from accessing hardware resources directly. You can circumvent these sometimes with the avove mentioned OpenG Port IO driver, which uses again a kernel mode driver to allow applications more or less generic access to some of these resources. But it is a hack and one that is not going to be portable in any way to 64 bits.
While I also don't believe that a DAQ driver requires 1GB of installer software, anyone selling hardware cards nowadays without a proper device driver installer simply has not done the most important part of his product. Ni's slogan "The software is the instrument" is more true nowadays than ever before.
But I think you are barking up the wrong tree here too. You say the DLL gives you the virtual address and the physical address. So I would assume that the DLL does the mapping already for you and should in fact have an API to which you can simply pass the heap pointer address in which you want the data to be written. In that case intialize a large enough array of data of the correct type in LabVIEW with Initialize Array and pass this as Array Data Pointer to the according DLL API. No fiddling with physical memory addresses.
If the card doesn't have such an API, send it back and request your money back! This is not from this century anymore!

  • How can I perform system memory test

I am working on Labview 7.1. Is Are there any canned vi's that allows me to do basic memory tests as part of my application?

There are no "canned" / "shrink wrapped" memory tests.
There are many varieties of memory tests.  Can you describe what you are trying to do?
Is it for a target device?  A PC?
What does the memory test consist of?  walking 1's & 0's? To what extent do you want to test?  How large is the memory?
You need to describe the specs on the memory test that you need to implement.

  • Power supply for HP Pavilion m7-1015dx Entertainment Notebook PC

I have a HP Pavilion m7-1015dx Entertainment Notebook PC.
The power supply (AC adaptor) that it comes with is HP part number 608428-002.
I also have a different power supply (AC adaptor) that came with a much older HP Pavilion notebook.  This older power supply is HP part number 519329-003.
Is the HP Pavilion m7-1015dx compatible with the older power supply (part number 519329-003)?
    Thanks!
    Mike

519329-003 is definitely the right part number.  I just double-checked, and that's what's written on the hardware.   If you do a google search for "hp part 519329-003", you get a ton of results.
The older HP notebook has another power supply, with HP part number 608428‑002 608428‑002 608428‑002 608428-002.  So I know that 608428-002 and 519329-003 are equivalent.
Is the newer notebook (the HP Pavilion m7-1015dx) compatible with the power supply that has HP part number 608428-002?

  • I currently have a one year old MacBook Pro, and right when I boot up the system, the kernel_task is using about 1GB of the 4GB of RAM that I have. Is this normal? Or if not, how can I reduce the kernel_task?

I have noticed that my computer is running super slow, even when I only have one application (like Chrome) running for a short amount of time.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the system log for messages that may indicate a hardware fault. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|nspace-h|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • System memory vs disk usage -- why is my hard drive almost full if my system memory is half empty?

I have a white Macbook, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of memory, Mac OS X, version 10.5.8, purchased in 2008. My Mac keeps warning me that my startup disk is almost full, and indeed Activity Monitor shows that my disk usage has minimal free space (2.31 GB). However, the System Memory tab shows that half my space is free.
Does the discrepancy mean that there is lots of space left on my Mac? If not, how can I identify if some sort of error is filling up my memory? Right now, I have a lot of music and documents stored on my laptop, but nothing else, and I would like to be sure it's those two things that are filling up the space.
What is the recommended method for adding more memory to my Mac, if nothing else?

There are two different types of memory in your Mac. There is system memory, more commonly referred to as RAM, and there is disk space. RAM is where the Mac works on data. Disk space is where data is stored for long term storage.
You are in serious danger of causing your Mac to die completely by running it with so little free space on your system drive. It is imperative that you start either deleting or move data off the disk drive. You should have 8 to 10 time as much free space at least at all times for OS X to run will.
A tool that can  with cleaning up your disk drive is OmniDiskSweeper. It will tell you the files and fol,der that are using the most space. That will give you good candidates for deletion or movement.

  • PLUG-INS AND SYSTEM MEMORY

i am using only 2 plug-ins for now, called BFD acoustic drum module by fxpansion and ivory by synthogy. using the activity monitor i have been trying to find out what is causing logic to freeze.it shows the dock shooting as high as 15% CPU for short bursts, window server as high as 8% CPUand something called pm tool as high as 8%.this is before i turn on logic and the motu interface. according to this activity monitor i have 3.46G system memory left out of 4G.when i turn on logic pro 7.1 there is 3.29G left in sys. memory.this aint bad considering i have 5 of logics virtual instrument presets on.when i load the BFD drums it drops to 2.61 sys. memory.when i hit the play in the transport and the presets play in BFD,sys. mem stays the same and logics shows 80 to 120% CPU.when i turn it off it drops back to from 5 to 30% CPU, but the system memory stays the same at 2.41G. Only if i remove BFD completely from logic does tyhe system memory go back to 3.27G left. ivory does the same thing.
Is there any setting to make these 2 plug-ins not suck all of that ram memory up when i am not using them? ivory can draw over 1G of system memory when i use certain settings and the only way to get around sucking up the ram when i am not using it is to remove it asa plug-in and reboot logic,it will not give up the ram even when i remove it.i actually have to reboot logic for ivory to give up its ram. this can't be possible, what am i missin here?
Also this dock thing at times hangs up (turns red and actually says "hung", lol. in fact it just hung right this momeny and it is using from 70-95% CPU.How can i optimize this comp. so these things don't happen. i want to learn how to turn off EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING i don 't need to have on to run logic.
thanks in advance for any help

That's not the way memory works. When a program requests memory from the operating system, it's not fully returned to the OS until the program exits. So, even if you unload Ivory, that memory is still allocated to Logic. If Ivory supports streaming from disk, turn that on.
Your dock issue is probably something unrelated to memory. I'd create a new user account, don't load any 'startup at login' items, no neat gadgets from the 'net running in the menubar. Add minimal programs (Logic, Audio Midi Setup) to the dock. It shouldn't misbehave. You can't get rid of the dock, and shouldn't need to.
From what you've written, there's no indication that you don't have enough RAM, or that faster drives would help. The thing to watch for (as far as RAM is concerned) is the 'page outs' number in Activity Monitor. If you have enough RAM, it won't steadily increase (though it may not stay at 0). If it's steadily increasing while you run Logic, performance will suffer.
I've only run Logic (7.1.1 and 7.2) on Tiger, and haven't had problems like that on my PowerBook with 1.5G RAM, or the Quad with 4.5G. I don't have Ivory or BFD - they're notoriously RAM and CPU hungry plugins.

  • System Extensive Test Failed

I've been experiencing some blue screens of death. After running recovery from the hard drive partitiion, I still experience blue screens and often can't boot. Here are my logs from the HP PC Diagnostics UEFI.Where do I go from here?

The notebook passes the system extensive test with either of the two 8 gb memory modules placed in the slot closest to the motherboard.  It appears that the RAM itself is okay. I am going to try each module in the other slot.  Although it fails a test, I've never had an issue with the optical drive. I may not need to replace it. The notebook has the model number m7-j178ca.  I do appreciate your help, Huffer. We can wait on looking for parts until I check the other slot.

  • Using system memory as video memory...

I have a X1600 ATI card. Its product informations say it can manage up to 512 MB of video memory, 128 internal and the rest from the system memory.
Do someone know how to set fglrx in order to use system memory as video memory?

As far as i know you dont have to set this via driver. The card automatically uses the needed amount of system memory ondemand.

  • System memory usage question

I'm confused by the system memory usage as seen with the activity monitor. This is my first mac so i'm used to using windows. I see there is 5 categories: Wired, Active, inactive, used and free. Is inactive and free the same thing? I'm just trying to gauge how much ram I use and if it's worth it to upgrade to 1Gb from 512. Thanks.
    13.3" White Macbook (2.0 GHz, 512RAM)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Wired memory
This information can't be cached to disk, so it must stay in RAM. The amount depends on what applications you are using.
    Active memory
This information is currently in RAM and actively being used.
    Inactive memory
This information is no longer being used and has been cached to disk, but it will remain in RAM until another application needs the space. Leaving this information in RAM is to your advantage if you (or a client of your computer) come back to it later.
    Free memory
This memory is not being used.

  • My HP Pavilion a6357c with Windows Vista 32-bit freezes until the system warms up

Any time I start the computer up when it hasn't been used, the system fails to boot.  It will freeze up in the process where I have to hold the "ON" button down to shut it down and then attempt to reboot.  the system will freeze just about anywhere in the process.  Sometimes I get to log in with my user name, and then the screen will freeze up.  Sometimes trigger a blue screen, sometimes a black screen and then perform a hard disc diagnostic routine.  Once whatever component warms up, the system works great.

I am not that familiar anymore with troubleshooting Windows XP, but way back in the day I seem to recall that the Windows recovery console would be used to fix issues like the one you're describing. It sounds like you may have a corrupted boot sector if it keeps going into the windows recovery mode.  The solution could be as simple as using the last known good configuration or possibly doing a system restore.  You may want to try this link on Technet that explains the recovery console and the tools available in it like fixmbr..

Worst case you may be looking at doing a reinstall of windows XP.
