HP Pavilion M7 Finger Print Reader Not Working

Hi,
I recently purchased an HP Paviolion M7.
I put an OCZ SSD in, and ended up doing a fresh install using non-HP Windows 7 (64).  Using the HP Recovery Tools is simply not an option (believe me I tried).
I have everything working now, except for the Finger Print Reader.  I have tried everything I can think of and could find.
I am using all the drivers/software from:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5273...
I have done these things:
https://support.authentec.com/Forum/tabid/318/forumid/49/threadid/600/scope/posts/threadpage/2/Defau...
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Notebook-PC-Questions/HP-Pavilion-dv7-4020sa-finger-print-reader-...
And more.
I believe the issue is because Biometric Device is Unavailable to Windows, see this screenshot:
I believe the above picture causes the Authentec HP SimplePass software to not recognise the driver version, see screenshot:
Any ideas?

I am sure they are the correct drivers, they worked with the system when it was an "HP" version of Windows.
The screens work for me, here they are again:

  • HP Envy Touchsmart 15 finger print reader not working

Hello, I've had my HP Envy touchsmart 15 for little under a month now and it's been going great until yesterday and today, the finger print reader hardware has started acting up.I log into my account fine and then when I leave my laptop for a little bit, I then return to log in and it won't let me use the finger print reader, it doesn't flash red or white, it just stops working. So I then try to log in using my password but I can't because it's saying my finger print is not recognised and keeps flicking bad and forth to that message. So basically it seems to think I'm rubbing my finger over it when i'm not even when the lights aren't flashing or anything and to solve this I have to power it off with the power button, which is not ideal at all. This is a problem, any help?

I've had this issue on and off with my laptop, as well. It has persisted through Windows 8, 8.1, and even started up again after upgrading to Windows 10 this week. I've also done the Simple Pass uninstall/reinstall thing, as well as used updated versions of such with the problem recurring. I reloaded a fresh install of Windows 8.1 earlier this year, only to have the problem persist. This week, I decided to forgo the HP software entirely and start using the Windows Hello feature that allows Windows to natively access the fingerprint reader without any other software required. Here's what I have figured out:The issue seems to be caused by the activation of a power saving profile at shuts down the fingerprint reader out of perceived conservation. Disabling this feature seems to have wholly rectified the issue.Windows 10 has installed the most recent Validity Sensors driver for the device, and it seems to work well. Here's how I fixed it, which should work for you:At the risk of shilling for Microsoft, run all the Windows Updates needed to get your PC to prompt an update to Windows 10. (The HP software seems to be at least partly to blame, and I hated the latest iteration of Simple Pass.) The Windows Hello feature should work well, as this device is supported. All instructions below assume you have installed Windows 10.Before continuing, uninstall HP Simple Pass from the control panel or through the new Windows 10 applications window (in Settings). If you have the "My Computer" icon on your desktop, right-click it and select Properties to open the System window. Then, select "Device Manager" from the upper left column of the System window.  (If you don't have the icon on your desktop, type "device manager into the search/Cortana dialog on the Windows taskbar, and select the top/highlighted result.)In the Device Manager window, click on the small right-carat next to the "Biometric Devices" entry.Right-click on the Validity Sensors entry, and select Properties to bring up a device properties window.First, select the Power Management tab at the top of the dialog. DESELECT the checkbox marked, "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."Next, select the Driver tab. Click on the Disable button near the bottom of the dialog.Press OK.Again, right-click on the Validity Sensors entry, and select Properties to bring up a device properties window.Again, navigate to the Driver tab. This time, select the Enable button (where the disable button was previously).  Press OK to close the dialog. (Your fingerprint sensor should flash a couple of times, but don't worry if it doesn't.)Close all of the windows you have opened.Open the Start Menu and select Settings.Click on Accounts at the far right side of the window.Click on Sign-in options in the left-side list.Under the Windows Hello heading, follow the step it gives to set up your fingerprint reader.Since doing so, I have had no further problems with the fingerprint reader. It seems to work reliably, but I'll update this post if I run into any issues. Good luck!

  • Finger print reader not working 'post' Windows 10 upgrade from windows 7

Ok I have succumbed to upgrading to Windows 10 as I did to Windows 8, perhaps this time I won't 'rollback' but already things don't look good .  As a part of the upgrade the Windows 10 the installer spat about the HP Protect Tools Security Manager and asked me to uninstall in order to proceed with the upgrade. I started to get a little concerned from this point on that I would lose my fingerprint reader as a result of going to Win 10 and low and behold that’s happened. It was only after following several threads online that I originally got the fingerprint reader working on windows 7.  I went in and out of the BIOS resetting this and that but in the end despite having all the HP drivers for the readers (latest ones) the only thing that ‘fixed’ my fingerprint reader was the installation of the HP Protect Tools Security Software. So the question is where’s the Windows 10 version of the HP Protect Tools Security Software or the ‘fix’ is there one?? Hate to think an operating system is blocking such a great HP laptop feature!

I want to upgrade from windows7 to  windows10 (probook 4350s) I have the same question about compatible version, which I hope HP or somebody answer soon and help us...I also cant uninstall my protect tools as upgrade needs me to.I want to know is it possible for finger scanner to work in windows10 after uninstalling HPPTM. thanks,Nazanin Mirzabeigi

  • Tx2500z Finger Print Reader stopped working

    Hi all,
My finger print reader randomly stopped working.  It looks fine in device manager, but when I pull up the software it says that it is disconnected.
As I said, this happened out of the blue - it had been working, then it stopped, without me changing any major software/drivers.  I've tried updating the driver but to no avail.
Anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

If its anything like the TX1000 series, then your next problem will be your wireless card, then your DVD drive.  Then you will need to shut the laptop on and off several times to get it to boot.  Then, finially, it will no longer boot at all.  If you google your problem, you may find, as I have with the TX1000, that this scenerio is playing out over and oer, and HP is not recalling the defective motherboards.  I wish you the best, if your under warranty, get it in as soon as possible!

  • Pavilion dv6 sd card reader not working

I have searched the boards and have not found an answer to my built in SD card reader not working any more.  It worked fine until a couple weeks ago. When I go to "my computer",  the sd card does not show up as an available drive. I have tried several cards with no luck. The cards work fine when I use a USB card reader, just not the built in one.
I checked the driver in device manager - at least the one I believe is the correct one - Realtec PCIE Card Reader.
Any other ideas? It is a pain having to carry around an extra card reader. Thanks for the help

    View Solution.

    Good morning rv9a.
Prior to the uninstall did the computer make a noise to indicate it recognized the card when you put it in?
You should go ahead and reinstall the specific driver for the card reader just to make sure that doesn't have an effect on the issue.  Here is the link for Windows 7 and here is the link for Windows 8.
Another possibility is the the Plug and Play service is deactivated.  Try the following to check.
    Press the Windows+R keyboard shortcut.
Type "services.msc" into the box and click okay.
Scroll down until you find "Plug and Play" in the list.
Ensure that it is started.  If it is not right-click on the service and select Start or Enable.
I'll keep an eye out for your response; have a great day!

  • Biometrics finger print scanner not working on Qosmio F45 AV411

    Hello,
I have a Qosmio F45 AV411 that I have just installed Windows 7 32 bit on. This was not an upgrade, but a fresh image on a new hard drive. I have also got all the drivers to work except for the:
    driver_fingerprint_upek_TC00237700A.exe
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well. Is there software that goes with this device as well? I checked device manager, and it says I have the latest driver.
    Thanks,

  • B570 FINGER PRINT SCANNER NOT WORKING PROPERLY?

I just purchased a Lenovo B570 and the fingerprint scanner doesn't seem to functioning correctly. There are times when I have to scan my finger about 10-12 times before I can get it to work. Then I get frustrated and just enter in my password. I like the feature but it's kind of irritating when it doesn't work right. Is it supposed to be so sensitive? Is there a way to fix it so it wouldn't be so sensitive? Thanks.

have you tried to update drivers?

  • Finger print reader and windows 8.1

Have an HP DM4T1100 notebook, Can't get finger printe reader to work with Windows 8.1.  Worked with 8.0 64bit, but when upgraded to 8.1 64 bit lost the use of the Finger Print Reader.  Have loaded many different drivers and software but nothing works and the finger print reader no longer "blink".  Sometimes get infor saying swipe finger but the Reader is not flashing.
Need to know steps to clear all the fingerprint drivers and software to start over, hopfully with know dirivers and software that works with Windows 8.1 64 bit.

    Hello,
After checking the HP Driver and Download page, for your exact notebook. Their are no available drivers for Windows 8 or 8.1. For a possible work around, you can try the 8.1 drivers for another notebook. At this point, I would suggest creating a restore point on your computer if you have not already. I have included the document 'Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)'. Please click on the option for Create a restore point, and follow the instructions.
Once the restore point has been created. You will need to uninstall the previous drivers that you have installed for the finger print reader. I have included the steps below for uninstalling through Add and Remove Programs.
    * From the Start screen type Add and Remove Programs
    * Select Add and Remove Programs
    * Once the list is populated look for anything like Validity driver, SimplePass, Finger Print Reader, or Biometric
    * Right click on these options and select uninstall
After all the items have been uninstalled, please restart your computer. After the computer is fully back, please empty the trash.
The next step will be to install the Validty driver, and then the Fingerprint Reader software. I have included the links below for you.
    'Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver'
    'AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Driver'
Please let me know if you are able to use the Fingerprint reader after this, thank you.
