HP Pavilion Media Center m8300f Hangs on boot

I have a HP Pavilion Media Center m8300f which came loaded with Vista Home Premium. About 18 month sold. Recently the computer would hang on boot up. I used the system restore and went back to a safe install. This worked ok until Windows added more patches which caused the same problem to occur again. After one or two of these episodes I was not longer able to return to a safe install. I ran the system recovery several times to check the hardware. Everything turned up good. Since I did not have a good set of recovery disks I decided to install XP on the computer and then upgrade to Vista. XP installed without a single problem. I purchased a NEW Vista Home Premium because I could later upgrade free to Windows 7. I tried to install Vista over XP. The process would start and then hang. So I reformated the hard drive using an external USB unit on another computer, replaced the drive and tried to install Vista off the DVD. It would not boot up. As a test using the Vista DVD I purchased, I upgraded XP on a separate computer to Vista. Worked very nice.
I ordered a set of the recovery DVDs and tried them. They would not boot up. I replaced the hard drive with a new SEAGATE SATA drive because I felt the connectors were not locking in. I still could not get the recovery DVDs to run. I went back to the XP and it installed. So here I am with a computer that willl not run or install Vista but will run XP. Also HP does not provide the XP drivers for the hardware on this computer.
Does anyone know why Vista will not install or how to get it on this computer?
I installed a NEW Seagate SATA hard drive for drive "C" because the connectors where not locking in place. rmated the hardI purchased the Recovery DVDs from HP and tried to reinstall it.

I had the same problem with computer halting with blue screens, black screens, etc.  Motherboard had 6 capacitors with bulging tops.  I found a replacement Nettle 2 motherboard from seller diypc2008 on E-Bay for the cost of $75.00 with free shipping.  Installed new motherboard and computer works like new.
It appears like at around 2 years, this problem occurs from what I read on this forum.  Look for capacitors on the motherboard with bulging tops.  I fixed my computer by replacing motherboard after running many hours of diagnostics, replacing power supply, and changing out drives.

  • Pavilion Media Center PC m7330n - 3gig drive support

I have a Pavilion Media Center PC m7330n and am think about purchasing a 3g SATA hard drive. The BIOS version is Phoenix-Award V3.47 (Core version 6.0) Do you think that my system will support a 3g drive? Thank you

    Hi chavinda546,
No you can't put an Intel i7-960 chip into the motherboard in your PC. You would end up replacing the motherboard, memory, power supply and processor.  And,  your HP recovery disks would not work so you would probably need to buy a copy of Windows 7.

  • HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7580.uk Desktop PC

    Hello
I am experiencing problems with me desktop computer, when I turn on the computer and monitor, no information is displyed on the monitor. Electricity is still going through the monitor as displayed with the orange indicator light. Could it be the graphics card or the monitor that is not working? I am planning to plug in another monitor to see if it is the monitor that is not working properly. At the moment I can not afford to buy new hardware. Does anyone know what else I could do, that does not require me to buy new hardware?
    Thank you.

    Hello @Raj2014,
I understand that you are having issues with the monitor on your HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7580.uk Desktop PC not displaying anything and it has an orange light. I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try a different cable connecting your monitor to your computer

  • I have an HP Pavilion Media center PC model #m370n. I am running windows XP Pro, internet explorer 7

My computer freezes in Media center program, when I try to set up a TV signal, or try to run the FM radio feature. Do I have too many drivers loaded? Or, the wrong drivers? Can I check to see if my Infared Transceiver is working? Can anyone help me with this?

My first thought when reading your post ( video jerky) is that the CPU doesn't have enough horse power? What is the GHz of the AMD athlon? 1.8 GHz would be right on the edge with video. And where the computer will max out at 1 Ghz of RAM indicates the laptop is older and the CPU probably as well. 1 GHz of RAM maybe low on today's computers but would not be an issue if the CPU was perhaps 2.8 GHz. The audio is less demanding by far on CPU's than video, so that could be a codec?

  • HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7674n Desktop PC

Recently I've been getting a "no hardware found" warning when trying to listen to FM using Windows Media Center.  I've opened the computer and made sure the tuner card was firmly in it's slot.  That's worked up until today.  Looking for a suitable replacement for my tuner card.  Considering the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150MCE.  Would like to upgrade to HD, but not sure if my computer would handle it.  Any advice?  (note: this computer shipped with 2g of memory, but I upgraded it to 4g).

While that hardware is fairly old, it might be OK with a new video card.I did find THIS ON A DIFFERENT THREAD where the poster claims to have sovled the problem, however. Yes, I confirm that if you download the latest NVidia driver 309.08 from their website and update the Windows Basic Graphic Card Driver with it by extracting the downloaded file to a location and "Browse" to it from the Driver Update from Properties, Windows 10 works perfectly on my old Dell Vostro PC with an NVidia 7300 Le Graphics card.

I have lost all sound on my Pavillion media center, I have tried everything nothing works, it says no speakers plugged in even thought they are plugged in correctly. now the tech tells me the audio port is corrupt. Does anyone have a suggestion other than getting a  new computer.

What model HP PC and operating system are you using?  Perhaps an updated audio driver would help.

  • One short beep and one 1 beep on hp pavilion media center 8120n

My tower is not booting up when I turn it on.  My son took the side off and was going to put more memory in it for me, but in the end he didn't.  He put the old memory back in and put the side casing back on.  Today, when I turn it on, it has 1 short beep and 1 long beep.  It just won't boot up.  Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it back up and running?

    RBurke, welcome to the forum.
The BIOS Beep Code that you are hearing is caused by a memory problem.  Here is a guide that will help solve the problem:

  • HP Pavilion Media Center m8020 PC Windows Vista Home Premium OS 6.1.7601.2.1.0.2561

Event Name: Blue Screen, additional  info about the problem CB Code 116 BCP1 8892008, BCP2D 9518BE0,  BCP3 00000000, BCP4 00000002, No connectivity to internet, e mail, speakers, limited operation in safe mode black background.  What is the fix for this Blue Screen event?   Thanks,  bluebbb

    Hi,
CB Code 116 usually refers to graphics drivers.
Boot to safe mode, and uninstall current graphics drivers.
    Try booting back to Windows.
Version  6.1.7601.2.1.0.2561 refers to Windows 7. Did you upgrade to Win 7 from Vista?
If your PC will boot correctly after removing the graphics drivers you will have to reinstall the drivers required for either Win Vista or Win 7.

  • HP Pavilion Media Center M7690Y PC. Windows 7 32-bit.

After the system has been on for a short time and is not running a program the computer will freeze/lockup and I must power down and restart. This happens all the time. Is there any solution for this?

Check the inside of case and see if it is dirty, dusty, etc.
If the RAM chips have dust on them, your system needs a good cleaning.
Be careful with a vacuum because of static electricity from the hose.
If your system is clean, you may have a hard drive starting to fail.
See if F-10 has an option on your system at boot up.
If it does there may be a hard drive utility to check your drive and other hardware.

  • HP Pavilion Media Center m8200n Desktop PC/ recovery disks FAIL

I had to replace a crashed hard drive.  BIOS shows that it recognizes the new drive.  Can NOT boot system.  Error message says disks (obtained upon purchase of computer) do not belong to this pc.  What?  I'm under the impression that it should not matter if this is a new hard drive.....the motherboard is what recognizes the recovery disks.  Is it possible that I have the wrong disks?  Or is this a big scam?

Hello thekissfan, Sometimes the HP Recovery Restore disk will not work on a new unpartioned and unformatted hard drive.
The hard drive would need to be prepared for the HP Recovery Restore disk.
The new hard drive would need to be partitioned, and formatted, and then the HP Recovery Restore Disk may work.
This is a fairly common issue. If your new hard drive came with a CD, you may be able to use the CD to boot the system and prepare the new hard drive.
