  • How do I best migrate from a Dell xP desktop to an HP Pavilion a6157c desktop Windows Vista?

I need to move tons of photo files, addresses, Favorites, programs etc from the Dell xP to the HP Vista Home Premium.  I have a WD external HD to help out, but I'm not at all sure how to go about it safely.  And I need to share the HP with my wife, just as we are doing on the current Dell.  What should I be doing?  Should I set up the HP for sharing, and then move each user over to his/her section through the WD?  Many thanks!

I have a HP Pavilion P6000 Desktop.  Model p6531p. For about 2 weeks now, if I stop using my computer for even 5 minutes,

The model you have given is just a series number. For better assistance, please provide the full HP model name and/or product number of the computer in question. Please check "Control Panel" > "Power Options" for settings that may affect your computer in the manner you describe.

  • Re-occuring Black Screen - HP Pavilion a6700F desktop

We have an HP Pavilion a6700F desktop Vista that started getting a black screen - from what we can tell, it started when the Nvidia driver auto updated.  We then upgraded to Windows 7 and ran the latest HP Updates, hoping that would fix the issue.  It has not.
We've tried to remove the Nvidia driver, however, each time the system restarts, it auto-installs it.
We've been reading recommendations about upgrades to video cards, power supplies, etc., however, thought we'd come to the main source for advice, before we attempt to swap anthing out on own.
    Your guidance/recommendations is greatly appreciated.

    Hey italianice,
I'm sorry you're running into this issue with the black screen. Is there any pattern to when the black screen appears? During videos? Games? High CPU usage? During other specific programs?
It would be helpful to know which video driver and BIOS version you have currently. Here is a link for steps to find your current BIOS version. I'll keep an eye out for your reply

  • When HP Pavilion p6320uk desktop is connected to monitor it says no signal.

Hello I have a HP Pavilion p6320uk desktop that was working fine for the a couple of months, and then suddenly the next day the monitor says no signal?! Even though all the moniter cables are connected and the desktop is still able to power on like it should be. Plus all the internal components are working, so I have no idea what the problems it could be the graphics card, which is ATI Radeon HD5450 or it could be the motherboard, which is a MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E).
The current operating system installed is a windows 7 (64-bit)
No changes or modifications were made at all when this problem occured.

    Hi:
This is what I would do if it happened to me...
If you don't have a second monitor to hook up to rule out a broken monitor first...
Your PC's specs state that it comes with the HD5450 and also onboard Intel video.
So, I would remove the Radeon video card and hook the monitor up to the onboard video out port.
If your monitor works then you know the video card failed.
If you still get no signal then probably the motherboard has suffered a major malfunction, or the monitor is bad.
Remember to unplug the PC before working inside of it.
Below is the link to the upgrading and servicing guide if you need info on how to access the inside of the PC and remove the video card.

setup problem, windows xp, firefox upgrade to 4 and asked to reboot but did not progress. keeps asking to restart even if I try to remove

    Hi marsano,
Usually the only reason it will ask you to reboot is if there is a file that must be modified that the updater doesn't currently have access to. You should try running the Firefox program once as Administrator:
    * Right-click the icon and choose ''Run as Administrator''
If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.
    # Download a fresh copy of Firefox from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/fx/ Mozilla download page] and save the file to the desktop.
    # [[Uninstalling Firefox|Uninstall]] your current version of Firefox and remove the Firefox program folder before running the new installer.
    # Run installer
Remember that you don't want to remove personal data when uninstalling. That way you'll still have your personal information.
    Hopefully this helps!

    Windows 8.1 upgrade suggestions:
There are some important steps to take prior to doing the upgrade.  Review this MS posted document. Be sure to run the upgrade assistant.
Be sure that Windows 8 has all of the latest MS updates installed. There are prerequisite patches that are required.
Be sure that you have at least 40 GB of hard disk free space.
Back up your data to external media.
Make a Windows 8 recovery media to external media before doing the upgrade.  I prefer to use a third party hard drive imaging program.
    Temporarily disable the antivirus software.
You will need to reinstall your programs after the upgrade so make note of which ones are required.
Check the HP Support site for Window 8.1 updates for your particular PC.  If you don't see any updates then your PC has not been tested/certified with Windows 8.1.

I've been running 64-bit Windows 8 Consumer Preview very nicely for several months and want to upgrade to 64-bit Windows Pro on my Pavilion a1440n. When I've tried to install from within the OS I get weird messages indicating that it can't be installed on a USB Flash drive (which I'm not trying to do). When I tried doing a clean install I got an odd message saying that certain installer files were missing and it would not complete. I called Microsoft customer support and the agent there thought my cpu would work because it wouldn't support Hyper-V, even though I understand that it optional. From running coreinfo.exe I can see that I have the PAE, NX, and SSE2 on the cpu enabled as meets requirements.
When I ran through th HP site I saw that this machine has not been tested. Is there any way of getting confirmation that Windows 8 Pro 64-bit will or won't run on my machine? The HP Product code for it is ER904AA#ABA.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    can anyone help,
I have trawled the web to no avail.
I can no longer project the laptop screen to my plasma,
I have tried the Win + P buttons and nothing happens, turned on amd off with the hdmi cable connected etc.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Palacio
So you upgraded the system to Win 8.1 as mentioned here:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-message/
From my point of view some of the Win 8.1 drivers are either missing, not upgraded or not installed properly.
Check this driver installation order and update the drivers if essential:

    2 Windows 8.1 update - Install

  • HP Pavilion p7-1410 & Windows 7 drivers... do they exist?

Client just bought a HP Pavilion p7-1410 (Windows 8 pre-installed). Their sole booking engine they employ currently only operates through Internet Explorer 8, which is not supported by Windows 8. This is something they have no control over, as the company they have their service through has yet to upgrade their software to even IE9.  It's not a simple matter of upgrading browsers and even less simple to change the vendor/software solution. They have to work within the limits of the vendor software.
Currently, when a new computer is purchased, I have to go in and uninstall IE9. During that process, the system installs IE8. I then set the Automatic Updates to ignore any IE9 updates. Again, as Windows 8 no longer supports IE8, I have to find another solution.
The only solution I can see is to downgrade the OS to Windows 7. This isn't a real issue as they have open licensed Windows 7 for install on new machines. The issue I am having (before I begin the downgrade process) is I see no drivers for this particular computer's individual components (network/graphics/audio/devices) of the Windows 7 flavor, only Windows 8 is listed on the website.
My question is are there Window 7 drivers for this particular computer or do I have to have the client return this machine for a computer that will be compatible with Windows 7 (drivers)?
This is a stock machine purchased through Office Depot (i3 Core (2nd gen)/8GB RAM/1.5TB HDD/Windows 8 (x64)). The client is upgrading from an IBM ThinkCentre with Windows XP Pro (yes I know... so please no jibes/jokes).
All serious, constructive replies are greatly appreciated.

  • My HP Pavilion 775C with Windows XP 32 bit SP3 has begun to startup in Windows Recovery Mode.

I have had many problems with my Pavilion a775c desktop, running XP 32 Bit with SP3 and 2.5 G Ram.  I was receiving a Fatal Error message 1327 that Drive M did not exist.  I did a selective startup eliminating the programs I thought were causing this but that did not help.  Then I cleaned away all the files for any HP printer, and for my current printer, an  Officejet j3680 All-in-One, and then reinstalled it.  That took care of the fatal error message but I began to get a message that my DRive D was out of memory.  I deleted some regular files that were previously stored on that drive before I increased the memory on my Drive C but I continued to receive that message.  I cleaned the registry with Registry Mechanic and then deleted files I though would not harm the computer and I no longer get the Drive D low on memory message but now the computer starts up each time in recovery mode and If I'm not there to select the Windows XP option it goes to a dos screen but nothing ever happens from there.   I'm not that familiar with DOS and don't know anything except to type EXIT which I did and the computer would reboot giving my an opportunity to select Windows XP.  Now, however, it won't allow me to type EXIT.  I must instead hit enter and then it goes to the screen that allows me to select the Windows environment.  I really don't want to have to do this each time I start up.  Can anyone help?

I am not that familiar anymore with troubleshooting Windows XP, but way back in the day I seem to recall that the Windows recovery console would be used to fix issues like the one you're describing. It sounds like you may have a corrupted boot sector if it keeps going into the windows recovery mode.  The solution could be as simple as using the last known good configuration or possibly doing a system restore.  You may want to try this link on Technet that explains the recovery console and the tools available in it like fixmbr..

Worst case you may be looking at doing a reinstall of windows XP.

    Hi, Daniel:
There is no 32 bit support for your model.
You will have to experiment with drivers from business models and drivers from the hardware component mfr's websites.
You can try these for starters:
    1. Chipset driver. Install first and reboot.
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=816&DwnldID=20775&keyword=chipset+ins...
    2. Graphics driver.

    3. Audio. This one I am not sure of, and you may never get the audio to work (try updating from the device manager and use the automatic search once you can connect to the internet).

  • Windows 8.1 upgrade fails on Inspiron 660

Attempting Windows 8.1 upgrade results in:
"We couldn't update the system reserved partition"
with event ID 20 from WindowsUpdateCilent for error 0xC1900104 when installing "English ESD bundle parent".
Googling this I find this is a problem for some systems with a system reserved partition that's 100 MB.
But, this machine with original Dell Win 8 install has nothing called that and no partition with that name or that small.  It has:
    2 GB Recovery Partition
    500MB EFI System partition
    (the balance) OS partition
    7.32GB Recovery partition
The EFI system partition is protected - I can't add a drive letter to it to see what's going on there.
I read and insured that the requirements of http://www.dell.com/support/Article/us/en/04/643934/EN were met. KB2871389 was listed as "failed" under update history, so I presume that means "not installed". Antivirus was disabled prior to starting the download.
    Suggestions?

    Hi,
We can try to clear update temp files to check the issue:
    1.     Click the Start Button and type in "Notepad" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and press Enter.
    2.     Copy the following commands and paste them into the opened Notepad window:
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop Cryptsvc
    ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution sdold.old
    ren %windir%\system32\catroot2 crt2old.old
    net start wuauserv
    net start Cryptsvc
    3.     After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Then choose "Save" when you are prompted to save the file. Type "temp.bat" (without the quotation marks) as the file name and choose Desktop from the left panel as the location.
    4.     Right click the temp.bat file on Desktop and choose Run as administrator.
    5.     A DOS-like window will begin processing.
If the issue still persists, please run System file checker to repair system: Open command prompt by run as admin and type following command:
    SFC /SCANNOW
Any error message, please post back.
To further help you, please upload windowsupdate.log as Zig mentioned.
