HP Pavilion P7-1154, 2nd DVI port not detected

I have a P7-1154 with 2 DVI-D ports. I had a Dell desktop monitor attached via DVI on one port and my HDTV attached on the second port via HDMI adapter.  I had video output to BOTH ports, but output to the 2nd port stopped working. There is no problem with the cable or the HDMI adapter because when I reverse the connections, I get the video output to the TV but nothing to the monitor.  I tried the BIOS update, but the update installation trashed the BIOS twice and had to replace my motherboard TWICE. I upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro, but no success.  The only other solutions I saw have to do with other users attaching a VGA moniotor to their computer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Try reinstalling the video driver from the HP support site.

  • Ref GTX 680 2nd DVI port stopped working

    I'm having trouble with my GTX 680 second DVI port. It seems to register that it's connected, but doesn't have any signal.
    Now, it's worked perfectly for weeks... until I replugged it yesterday.
    My set-up (that used to work):
    >DVI port 1 goes to main monitor
    >DVI port 2 goes to second monitor
    >HDMI port clones DVI port 2 and goes to TV
    And this is what I did:
    >Unplug 2nd DVI port, use it temporarily for another machine
    >Replug hours later, not working
    And what I've tried:
    >rebooting
    >reseating the GPU
    >blowing dust out of the GPU
    >emptying my computer for power (pull out powerplug, hold power button for 30 seconds)
    >clearing CMOS
    >different drivers (both with and without clean install option)
    >plugging monitors into 2nd DVI port (no signal from any monitors)
    >tried DVI to DVI, DVI to VGA, and DVI to HDMI - nothing seems to work
    >tried older GPU, it worked (with both ports)
    >tried the onboard DVI port for 2nd monitor, works but then I can't "clone" it to my TV.
    It also doesn't seem to get any signal during POST and BOOT (tried both monitors).
    The monitor also appears in "Screen Resolution" but as "Available display output: on Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000," but it doesn't work.
    When I messed around with it, trying to get it work, it also had an option to "force VGA" or something like that - but that did not work either.
    Specs:
    >ASRock Extreme3 Gen3
    >2500K
    >8gb Samsung Green low profile ram
    >MSI GTX680 with ref cooler and EVGA backplate
    >Corsair AX750
    >OS: Windows 8 x64 (although I doubt the operating system is an issue, since I don't even get output during POST/boot).
    I've tried searching, but to no avail. I've found people with similar issues, but none that managed to solve it. Example:

    I'd RMA the card as it sounds like the 2nd connector is broken and is not working guess it wasnt soldiered in place properly and its cane away on one of the connectors!!
    Sounds probable, but if you look at the first link I posted where other's have similar issues (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=142971.msg1066807#msg1066807) he tried swapping his GPU and it did not work for him. It might of course still be that the connection is just bad on my GPU and something else for him.
    I'll wait a while and see if other's can come up with some good suggestions. If not, I guess I have to RMA it.

  • Pavilion Slimline 400-034 Windows 8 not detecting 2nd Monitor

    Hello, I have a Windows HP computer, and I recently bought a 2nd monitor for my birthday, link click here. I have the same monitor for my first, and that works perfectly fine, when I bought the 2nd monitor, I realized I have a different port, and it's not a DVI-I, it's a DVI-D. So I bought a VGA to DVI-D connector, so I plugged my VGA into the connector and then plug the DVI-D into the tower. I turned on my computer, and the 2nd monitor wasn't detected, the DVI-D connected one, but the first one was. The monitor was set into mode auto, so it detected any working inputs, DVI, VGA, HDMI, and another. The 2nd monitor works thought while into the DVI-I port, but neither work in the DVI-D port. Any help (: ??

    Here are the specs for you HP Pavilion Slimline 400-034 Desktop Computer and here is the user guide for your Insignia™ - 24" LED HD "NS-24EM51A14" Monitors. Based on the specs of your computer, it has one DVI-D (digital only) output and one DVI-I (digital and analog) output as shown below;
    #3 - DVI-D (digital only)                     #4 - DVI-I (digital and analog)
    According the user guide for your Insignia monitors... VGA, DVI-D, and HMDI inputs are available. Using a passive DVI-to-VGA adapter will work on the DVI-I port because it supplies both digital and analog signals. Using a passive DVI-to-VGA adapter will NOT work on the DVI-D port because it only supplies digital signals. Please remove both DVI-to-VGA adapters and VGA cables and replace them both with DVI-D cables. You can purchase these cables online and at most local retail store such as Fry's, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Radio Shack, Staples, Newegg, Office Depot, etc. Once you have purchased two DVI-D cables, please connect your hardware as follows;
    Computer ---> DVI-D cable ---> Monitor #1
    Computer ---> DVI-D cable ---> Monitor #2

  • Dvi port not working

    I was doing a presentation today at a conference and switched projectors (both the same type). When I went from projector A (worked) to project B, my MBP would not recognise the display.
    Same cable set up, same technology set up. I tried rebooting and still nothing. Any suggestions?

    Do you mean the DVI port on the docking station?

  • DVI port not working anymore after latest BIOS update on T410s

    Hi all,
    after installing the most recent BIOS update via ThinkVantage System Update, the DVI port in my T410s does not work anymore. Nvidia and Intel display drivers are in place, and I also checked the BIOS settings, but to no avail. It appears that the DVI port is no longer recognised by the system at all.
    Thanks and cheers!

  • Mini DVI port not working on Macbook

    I often watch movies streaming on the internet by connecting my Macbook to my television via my Mini DVI to S-video adaptor cable.
    Last week, however, it suddenly stopped working. The television can still detect the display, but the image is super distorted and moving in a static-ey way. I can only vaguely make out the icons on my desktop on the TV screen.
    I thought that perhaps my adaptor cable was at fault, so I bought a new one - but the problem remains. I have also tried resetting the PRAM, repairing the disc and permissions with Disc Utility, and cleaning the Mini DVI port. I am pretty certain that it is a hardware problem with the port itself.
    One of the pins on my Mini DVI port looks like it could be out of place. It is kind of squished at the bottom of the port instead of laying flat like the others. I’m thinking that this might be the culprit. However, I have tried to straighten it out using a safety pin and I’m not really able to do it.
    Am I right to assume this is a hardware problem with my port? Any advice about how I might go about fixing this? Is there a way to repair the port without having to replace the whole logic board?
    The Macbook in question is a 2008 Core 2 Duo running Lion.
    Any suggestions at all would be much appreciated!

    Do not dismiss the possibility that the problem may be with the TV.  Based on what you have tried so far, an appointment at an Apple store genius bar is your best option.  The evaluation will be FREE and then you should be in a position to make an informed decision.
    Ciao.

  • Second DVI Port not working?

    Hi,
    I just purchased a HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1224 (windows 7 home premium) and an having problems hooking up 2 monitors via the built-in DVI outputs.
    I have a monitor plugged into each of the DVI ports.  The computer doesn't seem to detect any monitor plugged into the lower DVI port.  I've tried switching a number of times; if a monitor is plugged into the top port, it works fine; if it's plugged into the bottom port, the computer doesn't detect it.  I've tried going to the "screen resolution" menu to manually detect the second monitor, but hitting the "detect" button doesn't find the second monitor.
    Is there some sort of trick to get dual-monitors working with this computer?
    Thanks

    Sharon43,
    Please provide the brand and complete model numbers for the monitors you are trying to connect to your computer. Also indicate the exact methods you are using to connect the monitors.
    As your HP Pavilion p6-2310 Desktop Computer has one DVI-D (digital only) output and one VGA (analog only) output, one monitor must support VGA input and the other monitor must support DVI-D input.
    (#1) - DVI-D (digital) output          (#2) - VGA (analog) output
    The computer and monitors will need to be connected as follows;
    Computer > DVI-D cable > Monitor #1
    Computer >  VGA cable  > Monitor #2

  • Mini-DVI port not working: wear and tear?

    I had been happily using the mini-DVI port to play content on TV, using a DVI to Video adapter : plugging and unplugging probably twice a week.
    Now it seems to have stopped, abruptly: no signal at all is reaching the TV. (Adapter still works fine on my MacBook.)
    What are the chances of wear and tear damaging the DVI port? Is this a complicated fix? Any other thoughts? No recent upgrades or updates.
    "About this Mac" reckons it's mirroring fine, so it feels like a hardware thing. Many thanks in advance.

    Hello ewfelton
    It is very possible that the DVI port on the iMac has been damaged from wear and tear, as it's harder to get at than the MacBook.
    I would disconnect everything from the iMac, grab a clean towel and turn it face down on the desk. Then with a magnifying glass and light inspect the DVI port for a broken or bent pin. In the process of inspecting the port your SMC will also be reset, follow the instruction for "How to reset the System Management Controller" when your done.
    If the port seems OK and the SMC reset doesn't get it going use Disk Utility to Repair Disk Premissions and try it again.
    Your local Apple Store or local Apple Service Provider can replace a bad or damaged DVI port.

  • T420 - external 24" monitor DVI- Displayport : not detected when connected via KVM switch

    Hi,
    I've been using a 2port USB KVM Switch from InLine for a long time connecting a mac mini and a macbook pro
    to a 24" LCD. Recently I had to replace the MacBookPro with a T420. Unfortunately the T420 does not detect the
    monitor, when connected via the KVM switch.
    I tried:
    A) T420 -> Lenovo Displayport to DVI-Adapter -> KVM-Switch -> 24" monitor: NO SUCCESS
    B) T420 -> Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> KVM Seitch -> 24" monitor : NO SUCCESS
    C) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
    D) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 VGA Port -> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
    So I have a workaround, but leaving out the KVM switch is not a long term option.
    This is all on Win 7 professional / 64bit
    Using config (A) I then installed the Intel HD Graphics Driver version 8.15.10.2342 16 May 2011
    SURPRISE: during driver install, the monitor WAS detected!!!
    SECOND SURPRISE: after reboot I was back in the old situation where the monitor was NOT DETECTED
    CONCLUSION:
    Seems like a software issue with the Intel HD Graphice driver.
    ANY HINT/COMMENT/HELP highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Michael

    hey mgold,
    as the T420 works correctly with the external monitor and with the miniDock ; it is sad to say the the KVM switch is non-compatible.
    I would recommend that you get in contact with the manufacturer of the KVM. At the same time, try uninstalling the current video drivers of your T420 and see if it makes any difference with the KVM if the T420 is running on a generic driver

  • DVI port not functioning on G4 MDD

    Hello, I just bought a 23" Apple Cinema Display and the Graphic Card on my G4 MDD 1.42 doesn't see it. The display stays black (doesn't come on). However the Firewire and USB ports work on the display.
    The graphic Card is the original (I think) ATI Radeon 9000 pro. It has 64 MB of RAM. That should be enough and is said to support this display.
    It seems to me that the DVI signal is not working. I say that because, with both a VGA to DVI and a VGA to ADC adapter, I can plug 2 CRT monitors and they all work fine.
    Does anyone have a suggestion on how to solve this? Should I buy another card?
    How do I know for sure that the card is not working. So far I tried it with 3 different DVI monitors and none worked. The display I bought is fine. I tried it on a mac mini.
    Yvon

    There have been many reports of new 23" displays with bad power supplies. Is there a another computer you could try the display on? the adapters shouldn't be a problem,

  • HDMI and DVI port not working on 880GMA-E35

    Hello,
    I want to use the HDMI port of my 880GMA-35, but the monitor is not getting a signal. I know that the board has two jumpers to switch between the DVI and the HDMI port. In the delivery state the jumper is set to HDMI, but I don't get a signal. There is also no signal, if I switch the jumper to the DVI pins. I have tested this setup which different cables (HDMI and DVI) and two different monitors.
    After this test I get a guarantee replacement of the board. The new board is also not working with HDMI or DVI. The VGA port of the first board was working as supposed and I don't see any Bios settings to activate the monitor ports.
    Are there any suggestions to solve my problem?
    Thanks in advance and kindly regards
