HP Pavilion p7-1451 USB 3.0 and Bluetooth drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2
I bought an HP Pavilion p7-1451 so I could have an affordable, yet reasonably powerful machine to put a server software development environment on (I'm a software engineer).
It came with Windows 8, but I needed Windows Server 2008 R2, which I own through an MSDN subscription. I did what I always do in these cases, re-partioned the hard drive, re-formatted, and installed the new operating system.
I have nearly all devices working properly, but it still won't recognize the USB 3.0 ports and the Bluetooth device. I searched everywhere but cannot find anything that will work. Anything from the HP site is targeted for either Windows 7 or 8, and when trying either one of those, it tells me "Your system does not meet the operating system requirements" and MSI does not publish any drivers at all for this particular motherboard (that I can find anyway).
Motherboard: MSI MS-7778 also known as: MSI 2AEO version 1.0
BIOS: AMI 8.12
This is the list of "Other devices" in Device Manager that Windows doesn't recognize:
BCM20702A0
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Bluetooth Device ID: USB\VID_0A5C&PID_21F1&REV_0012
USB Controller device ID: PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7812&SUBSYS_2AE0103C&REV_03
Windows still doesn't recognize them after allowing it to search the internet.
And I've googled all over the place and I'm not getting anywhere.
Does anyone have any advice?
Any chance this could be related to the BIOS?
I'm not having any luck finding a BIOS download for this motherboard either.
Any help is much appreciated!

Holy crap, it worked!!
My version number was slightly different in the .inf files, but I dropped the last ".1" off the end and that did the trick!
So, the steps were:
Get and extract the driver files:
1. Download the AMD Chipset Drivers file from here:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx#2
(choose the first download in the list. It's called "AMD Chipset Drivers")
2. Download and install 7-Zip from here:
http://7-zip.org/download.html
3. Right click the 13-4_vista_win7_win8_32-64_sb.exe chipset file, select "7-Zip", then choose "Extract Here"
Install the USB Host Controller driver:
1. Open the USB Controller .inf file in Notepad from the following location:
13-4_vista_win7_win8_32-64_sb\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\hseries\USB30\amdxhc\W764A\amdxhc.inf
2. Find all instances of: .5.1.1 and replace with: .5.1
and save and close the file.
3. In Device Manager, right click the first unknown "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" and choose "Update Driver Software..."
4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software", navigate to the directory in Step 1, and click Next.
5. Accept any warnings and choose to Install anyway...
It should recognize and install the USB Controller driver (finally progress!)
Repeat the same steps above for any other USB 3.0 controllers that are unrecognized.
The devices should now say "Unknown device" instead of "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller".
Windows recognizes your controllers now, but not the USB root hubs.
For each of those "Unknown device" entries, do this to install the USB 3.0 Root Hub:
1. Open the USB Hub .inf file in Notepad from the following location: (notice that it's a different directory)
13-4_vista_win7_win8_32-64_sb\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\hseries\USB30\amdhub\W764A\amdhub30.inf
2. Find all instances of: .5.1.1 and replace with: .5.1
and save and close the file.
3. In Device Manager, right click the first "Unknown device" and choose "Update Driver Software..."
4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software", navigate to the directory in Step 1, and click Next.
5. Accept any warnings and choose to Install anyway...
I plugged in a USB 3.0 hard drive, and at first it didn't seem to work. I tried another port and still nothin. But after about 40 seconds the drive was recognized and all is well. Yay!
Thank you Paul for your help!
Hopefully this post will help others too.

Drivers for Windows Server 2008 and HDD issues
Recently I have had the hard drive with my OS fail. After replacing the hard drive and reinstalling windows server 2008 I seem to have run into a few issues with drivers. After insalling Windows, I had 3 items in my device manager that did not install properly. I was able to get the driver for the LAN port to work but I have not gotten the driver for "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and "SM Bus Controller". After a little research, I believe the video card is a Radeon HD4350. With that information I still have been unable toinstlal the correct drivers for either of these items. I've tried several drivers listed on the drivers support page on HP's website but all fo them return the same error about not finding the correct Operating System. The link to the driver I used originally on my previous installation seems to not be valid any longer.
Also I can't seem to access the two additoinal hard drives (connected by sata). They were used with the previous installation of windows with no issues. They appear in the device manager but do not show up under My Computer. A removeable drive does show up that I'm not sure what it is. Previously I had used software to mirror one of the drives onto the other as to prevent losing data if a drive would fail. Is one of the above drives causing the issue with not being able to access the drives or did the software used before cause the problem?
Any help on these issues is greatly appreciated.

I can't help you with the drives then. That is out of my realm of knowledge. If they are marked healthy and active in the disk management utility, then that is all I know that they should be indicated.
As for the graphics driver...
Download and install this free file utility.
http://www.7-zip.org/
After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file and select 7-zip from the list of options.
Select 7-zip to Extract to: and let it extract the file into a folder. I let it extract to the file name of the folder.
Then just follow the rest of my instructions to install the driver.
Of course you will first browse to where 7-zip has extracted the folder to, and proceed from there. -
so i did a fresh instal of windows xp pro sp3.
device manager shows yellow question mark and ! for Network Controller and BCM2046 Bluetooth Device. i have tried using lan to windows update, update drivers, but device manager cannot find anything.
i have installed the 2 broadcom drivers for windows xp listed on lenovos website. i made sure that wireless switch is on, and fn+f5 wireless option is set to on as well.
LAN shows up. and so does the 1394 on the network connections, but no wireless.
(note: on my server 2008 os, the new windows troubleshooting instructed me to turn on a specific service, which then enabled my wireless to work.)
however i cant seem to find a way to get the wireless to work.
Could someone tell me all services exactly need to be enabled for the wireless to work? and why does the network controller still show up on device manager even after i have installed the drivers?
please help, totally lost.Your "yellow" device is Bluetooth, not WiFi.
Fn+F5 utility work depends on both of them, so you need all drivers to be installed before it will work.
Install bluetooth drivers for your model. Also, your WiFI also may be Broadcom (Gemtek) and you may be trying to install Intel WiFi.

JDK and JRE comptability for Windows server 2008
Hi,
Could someone please let me know what are the JDK and JRE versions that are comptabile with Windows server 2008 ?
Thanks.Hi,
For security purposes, the IP address for the Windows Update web site constantly changes and it is not a fixed address. Also, there is no official publication of the
IP addresses. We normally advise against defining IP addresses on the firewall for this purpose. Instead, we suggest either allowing all outbound connections to http & https ports or defining the DNS addresses as permitted destinations for traffic via
the firewall.
For up-to-date information about the IP's being used by Windows Update, use the DNS system, as this is the only reliable up to date source of information. If you use
DNS, make sure the following destination hosts are specified:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.update.microsoft.com

I have installed two virtual machines(win2k3 32bit and win2k3 64bit ) on Windows Server 2008 RC1 With Hyper-V Technologies (Beta) enterprise. Mouse is getting lost inside VM (using CTRL+ ATL + LEFT ARROW comes mouse control control in host OS).
Is there any setting to make mouse works? Insert Integration Serice setup Disk operation succeeds.all credits for mike_something
The problem is that the old mousedriver is hooked to the mouse device class.
To remove this dependency, go into the registry and navigate to the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Remove the value msvmmouf from the UpperFilters Regvalue.
Reboot....
tadaaa!!
If you wish you can take out the drivers completely by deleting these registry hives completely :
The driver:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\msvmmouf
The Service:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VPCMap
The CopyHook Shell Extension: ( for folder access )
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{30C14BA C-122C-42ED-B319-1139DBF48EB8}\InProcServer32
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\CopyHookHandle rs\VPCCopyHook
After a reboot you can delete the "Virtual Machine Additions" folder from program files...

HassanYou said, "...+I would like to install Release 2(11.1.1.2.0)+ ...". Be careful. 11.1.1.2.0 is not Release 2. The version for Rel 2 is 11.1.2.0, notice that there is one less "1". Also, there is no way to patch from Release 1 to Release 2.
In EDelivery, this is what you should find if you search on "Oracle Fusion Middleware" for "Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)":
First look for this link then drill into it:
Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Media Pack for Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)
In this section you will find the following:
This is the full product installation of FMw 11 Release 2 (Forms & Reports)
Oracle Forms and Reports 11g R2 (11.1.2.0.0) for Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) V28761-01
This is the full product installation of FMw 11 Release 1 (includes Portal, Forms, Reports, and Disco)
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) (Part 1 of 4) V18785-01
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) (Part 2 of 4)
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) (Part 3 of 4)
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) (Part 4 of 4)
This is the FMw 11 Release 1 patch set that will bring the above 11.1.1.2.0 installation to 11.1.1.6. This is NOT a full product installation - just a patch
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g Patch Set 5 (11.1.1.6.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) V29850-01
There are no patch sets for Release 2 as of yet. -
Do we need CALS for windows server 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 if 2008 R2 is just a stepping stone?
We currently have a server on Windows Server 2008 RC SP2 64-bit with approximately 20 clients.
We want to upgrade to Windows server 2012 R2 but first need to upgrade to Windows 2008 R2 to allow us to do a straight upgrade.
Is it possible to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 with the 5 CAL's included and then upgradeto 2012 R2 and install 20 new CAL's and keep all users accounts and domain PC's the same?Ok sorry for using the wrong terminology... I was under the impression for each client (Computer) connecting to the server we will need a CAL (Client Activation License) in order for the computer to be a domain PC on the server. Do I need 20 CALS's
for Windows Server 2008 R2 and then another for Windows Server 2012 R2 if we are only upgrading to 2008 R2 to be able to upgrade to 2012 R2 without having to do a clean install.
For WindowsServer (Standard edition or Enterprise edition or DataCenter edition), a Client Access License (CAL) is required for each device (if you're using the per-Device CAL licensing method), or, is required for each user (if you're using the per-User
CAL licensing method).
(whether you use per-Device, or per-User, is up to you, it comes down to cost).
CALs are version-specific (to a point) - i.e. if you purchased WS2008 CALs for your 20 devices, for use with your WS2008 server, and you are now upgrading that server to WS2012, you need to upgrade your CALs.
If you are adding a second server which is WS2012, and you are keeping your WS2008 server, you need to upgrade your CALs (because you only purchased WS2008 CALs which don't grant you the rights to connect to the newer server).
If you were to install your second server as WS2008, you wouldn't need to purchase additional CALs, because as long as the version is the same, a single CAL grant you access to unlimited server (of the same version).
CALs can be tricky to correctly license.
Here's some introductory reading:
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/about-licensing/client-access-license.aspx#tab=1
And, none of this relates to the technical aspects of product installation/configuration at all (e.g. clean install vs. upgrade).
Windows Server CALs are not license keys/tokens/files which you install/load/download - Windows Server CALs are quite literally paper-based (just like a drivers license or car registration). You are required to have them, to be correctly licensed, but, you
don't physically do anything with them to own/drive a car.

USB Controller Driver (3.0) for Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition 32-bit
Hi,
I have recently built a HP DL320e Gen8 v2 server with Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition 32-bit & it's missing the USB Controller Driver which HP don't have. I have searched endlessly online without success. HP suggest I try Windows but I couldn't
find it in the Download Center either.
Can somebody please provide me with the USB Controller Driver for Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition 32-bit?

NazHi,
Thanks for your posting.
For this issue, i think you need to search in the HP official website or contact the HP support.

I have two printers installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit):
1. Samsung SCX-4521f
2. Samsung SCX-4300
There are two computers (Windows 7 Professional, 32-Bit) connected to this server that utilise these shared printers.
The drivers installed are as follows:
SCX-4x21_Win7_Print.exe (Win 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Win 7 3.04.96:03 Print Driver 11 Dec, 2009 12.37 MULTI LANGUAGE)
SCX-4300_Print.exe (Win 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Win 7(32,64bit) 3.04.95:07 Print Driver Jan 19, 2011 53.07 MULTI LANGUAGE)
After printing documents for some time (within a 24 period) the printers no longer respond to print requests.
On the server opening "Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers" shows the two printers with yellow exclamation marks.
The "SCX-4x21" printer shows the "Status" as "Needs troubleshooting" and "Printer: Error".
The "SCX-4300" printer shows the "Status" as "Needs troubleshooting".
Neither will print a test page.
Searching for new drivers automatically returns saying: "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
The error persists and nothing will print.
When double-clicking on the "SCX-4x21" printer (or going to "Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers\Samsung SCX-4x21 Series") you see the following:
"Printer: Error" and "N document(s) in queue".
Clicking on either of these brings up the print queue and shows a document with the status of "Error - Printing".
As each job with an error is cancelled the next one attempts to print and also displays an error like the last.
Once all the jobs are cleared the printer information says "Printer: Ready".
Sending a "Print Test Page" sends the printer into an error state saying "Printer: Error".
With the "SCX-4300", sending a "Print Test Page" displays a bubble saying: "Toner Empty: Replace Toner".
However, I can't see any specific error messages.
How do I find out what exactly "Needs troubleshooting"?
Please can anyone advise further? The printer (SCX-4300) has stopped again.
Since it has been stopped I have done your recommendations:
Unticked the "Enable bidirectional support" option under the "Ports" tab in the printer properties.
Set the "Interactive Services Detection" to Automatic and started it.
Unfortunately the printer did not start printing, the print jobs did not restart or delete.
I decided to check the Operational logs that we enabled.
The first job I see goes like this:
Information: Rendering job 41.
Error: The print spooler failed to delete the file C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\00041.SHD, error code 0x2. See the event user data for context information.
Information: The print job 41 was sent through the print processor SSE1MPC on printer Samsung SCX-4300 Series, driver Samsung SCX-4300 Series, in the isolation mode 1 (0 - loaded in the spooler, 1 - loaded in shared sandbox, 2 - loaded in isolated
sandbox). Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 0x0.
Information:Printing job 41.
Information:Spooling job 41.
This job actually printed.
Other jobs printed fine with no error.
There are no other errors in the "Operational" log other than the "print spooler failed to delete" error.
Any ideas what to try now?
Update: Unticking the "Enable bidirectional support", clearing the print queue and then trying again seems to have fixed the problem for now. -
What is the most powerful books for Windows server 2008 and R2?

There are many books out there that cover Windows server 2k8 and its R2 successor but i wonder which ones to focus on. In the same time, all books are for one purpose, "Windows Server 2008". Each author has his/her own view on the platform. I don't

Do you think the unfinished books worth reading?
Appreciate your help.Thank you for the reply. My goal is to read everything (ins and outs) about Win 2008 and R2 platforms before i jump into Win 2012. I have pretty good experience in certain roles in Win 2008 such ADDS and ADCS. As clarified, i've finished a good number of
books but i want to make sure that i didn't miss a single piece of information that maybe covered in another book.
Honestly, i find the Technet docs are informative but daunting. On the other hand, books written by authors are more friendly because authors can throw jokes while explaining a certain technology, which makes the reader more attracted to the topic. In addition,
examples, practices, labbing, and quizzes in the books are more fun. -
How to back up Windows 2003 R2 and restore it on Windows Server 2008 R2?
Hi,
I have an old server running on Windows 2003 R2 Standard OS. It has file server and application server roles. No AD domain services. It has 1TB of data as well.
I'd like to replace the server with new hardware with Windows 2008 R2 Standard installed.
I'd like to know the steps. what to and how to backup Windows server 2003 R2 and restore it on 2008 R2.
Thanks in advance.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff972408%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
You should be able to upgrade the OS directly from 2003 R2 to 2008 R2
I would recommend backing up the information with backup assist or creating a system state backup via windows first before attempting anything. I know BackupAssist will allow you to back up all your information and restore it with the same permissions
to any server. -
