  • Loss of sound on pavilion dv6700 since upgrading to Windows 10

since upgrading to windows 10 I have lost my audio.....can't play MP3 music and the system sounds do not work...searched for sound card driver and found three recommended...each one reported suitable hardware not found.....decided to reinstall the sound card driver from my windows 7 install, as luckily I backed up all my drivers before upgrading to OS10.....,although it installed, still no sound...have removed device and drivers and let the laptop reinstall after restart.....don't know what else to try.....don't suppose there is a function key muting sound that I don't know about....thanks

Hi there Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! I just need your specific Model Number (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) I read your post on the HP Support Forums and see that you are having issues with your HP Pavilion dv6700 Entertainment Notebook PC. I understand that since you have upgraded to Windows 10, you are having an issue with your sound not working. I would be happy to assist you. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Have you tried in the Device Manager to update the driver that is currently installed? Have you tried to select "Find New Hardware" in the Device Manager?Have you tried connecting headphones to see if the Sound issues persist that way?Have you tried to uninstall in the following order: 1. Uninstall the sound driver in Device Manager2. Restart your Notebook3. Reinstall the driver? You can use the HP Support Assistant for drivers. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. If you choose to download the drivers from the HP Driver's Page and there is not a driver in the Windows 10 Column, there should be one in the Windows 8.1 column. The Windows 8.1 drivers should work in Windows 10 also.  Have you tried the Disable and then Enable method? If not, you can find this and other troubleshooting steps in the HP Notebook PCs - No Sound from Speakers (Windows 10, 8) document.  Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps, re-post and let me know how everything went. Thank you! Have a great day!

  • Pavilion g6 won't upgrade to windows 8.1

I have a Pavilion g6 that came with Windows 8. I have tried on 2 different occasions to upgrade to Windows 8.1. The first time, several weeks ago, I completed the install, but have had problems ever sense, system hangs, software that dies, etc. I finally decided to use my system backup to reinstall to from scratch. I did this, and then installed all Windows updates and HP updates. After 2 days of updating, I tried to install Win 8.1. I have tried 4 times and it fails each time. It downloads the updater and then says it needs to restart to complete the install and when it does, it just sits there with a bunch of dots going around in a small circle.

    I finally just got a friend's Pavilion g6 to upgrade to Windows 8.1. Here's what I did:
    1. Did all Windows updates.
    2. Did all driver updates by going to device manager and hitting "update drivers" for each device.
    3. Ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter.  It said it did two fixes.
    4. Ran sfc/scannow.  It didn't find any errors.
    5. Turned off Windows Firewall.
    6. Changed to high performance power scheme (doesn't turn off anything if on ac power.)
    7. Disabled antivirus.
    8. In Task Manager, I ended every task that didn't look absolutely essential, including all HP tasks.
    9. I started the upgrade in the evening and promised myself not to look at it or touch it until morning.
    10. In the morning, all was good.
    11. Re-enabled Firewall, antivirus, more conservative power scheme.

  • Windows 8 HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx Upgrade results in black screen after intallation finalizes.

I have a 2011 HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx with Windows 7 64 bit Home premium installed.  The notebook/laptop has a AMD Radeon HD 6300M series display adapter with driver version 9.2.2.0 dated 9/27/2012 and an ATI technologies Intel HD Graphics display adapter with driver version 8.7771.1.0.  The notebook/laptop has not had a hardware upgrade and contiains the orignal factory OS. BIOS is current to latest available.
The issue I had while upgrading to Windows 8 is after the install finalizes (settings and preferences are entered) and the system boots to the tiles screen, the display works fine.  Clicking to the desktop works only for a few moments before the screen goes dark. Pressing the power button and/or closing/opening the lid results in at times a black screen (no power to the screen) or black screen (power to the screen) or a black screen where only the mouse pointer is visible and moves around the screen.  Restarting the computer results in a repeat of the issue at times while other times it will boot directly to what appears to be the windows desktop. You can interact with the file folder icon on the task bar as well as internet explorer, and you can get the charms bar and tile screen. Any attempt to open computer management or any control panel or task manager will open the window as an icon on the task bar.  You can mouseover the icon to "preview" a small version of the window but you can not click on it to maximize.
    I attempted the following workarounds:
    1) Clean install of Windows 8: Installs but fails with same result as above
Refresh PC from windows 8 rescue media: Works slightly longer until AMD driver fails and then reverts to situation above.
    2) Uninstalling all display adapters (via computer management) and then upgrading to Windows 8: Results in microsoft drivers getting installed, works much as refresh above until AMD driver fails and then reverts to above situation.
    3) In Scenarios 1 and 2,  I also tried to use windows update within Win8 to update the drivers there are updated MS drivers available ,(dated as late as 10/27/2012) but intalling those drivers also resulted in a failure of the adapter within a short period of time as did NOT updating the drivers.
    4) Disabling display adapters and then restarting:  Results in a BSOD (Blue Screen) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Stop: 0x0000000A error during boot as the OS runs into trouble with the driver before Windows 7 boots.  This happens if one or both drivers are disabled.
    5) Disabling display adapters before in-place upgrade to Windows 8 results in the Windows 8 equivalent of a BSOD and results in the system shutting down and then reverting to Windows 7.
Through research, I determined some ppl had luck connecting another monitor/HD TV through VGA/HDMI and then using the function-screen button to switch, with my system this resulted in the same issue displayed on the TV/Monitor. There are also updates to ATI and Catalyst center available including drivers and installing these do not remedy the issue. Intel was checked and there are no drivers available as HP uses a "custom" driver for intel.  Attempting to install any of these Intel drivers will result in a fail with a compatiblity error.
Windows 8 has no safe mode ability from the windows 8 rescue media disk, you cannot F-8 as you could in the preview. Safe mode must be reached via charms, settings, startup and then selecting safe mode as a boot option, which is not available as the display adapter malfunctions.  In those scenarios where I was able to get a windows desktop to boot up as in the first paragaph I can get to the restart settings via charms, but clicking to bring up the restart menu requires another window to open which is only visible as a "preview" on the windows task bar.
if you are going to attempt to try any of these,
    1) Use a third party software to image your pre-win 8 upgrade system that you can boot into from USB or CD;
    2) Before starting the process, disable the UAC prompt and remove any passwords from logon, as those things will require you to interact with the OS and you will not be able to do this when the adapters fail.  The screen will shadow out as it usually does but the prompt will not be viewable.
    3) Create an ISO image of the Win8 install media and write down the product key. If you are able to get a successful boot, before the drivers fail, create a Windows 8 rescue media disk.
I spoke with HP tech support this morning (10/29/2012) they are aware of the issues and they lie with the display adapters.  They are working toward a solutuion but there are none available at this time and no date when they will be available.  They recommend checking the support website and having the web page autoscan your PC as the drivers will show there when they are posted and they will be installable from Windows 7 so there will be no issue with upgrading to Windows 8.  Bottom line, do not upgrade to Windows 8 at this time.
MS Tech support escalation tier reps also informed me there is no present workaround available.
Hope this helps and saves somebody some time!

My laptop sat at BestBuy from Friday night until today (10-31-12)! They couldn't figure out how to fix the problem so I finally told them to revert my latop back to Windows 7! I hope HP reads these and will hurry up and make the updates needed so that I can run Windows 8 on my Laptop! I just bought mine in July of last year there is nothing wrong with it and after dropping about $1200.00 for my dv7-4285dx along with the Best Buy Geek Squad package I do not feel like having to drop more money into another laptop!! PLEASE HURRY AND FIX THIS I DIDN"T DROP $69.99 plus tx to not be able to use Windows 8! Even before I did the upgrade I had the GEEk Squad check to make sure I could make the upgrade and was told this laptop well surpasses the required minium to run Windows 8!!!!!!

It looks like this unit has not yet been certified for Windows 8.  Review this site to see what to expect when upgrading to Windows 8.  Click on More Information at the bottom to get a more detailed list and to have the option to see if HP has tested the unit for Windows 8.
Make sure to install the Windows 8 HP Software Framwork found here.
There is a chance that some functions simply will not work.  Since the unit has not been certified for Windows 8 and does not have Windows 8 drivers from HP, the Windows 7 drivers and software may need to be reinstalled using compatibility mode.  Review my post located here for the method that seems to have the most success.  The key to install HP software with compatibility mode is to let the extraction complete and then navigate to the real software installer in the extracted folder.
I recommend reinstalling the newest driver for each component in compatibility mode as outlined in the linked post.  Here is the software page for your unit.
    Let me know what happens.

  • Hp pavilion dv6500 upgrade to windows 8 64 bits

hi guys i have an hp pavilion dv6500 laptop with 64 bit processor and i want to upgrade it to windows 8 64 bit but during the installation am asked to select file or insert cd containing the drivers before proceeding with the installation. can anyone help me with a link to download these particular drivers please.....

Have you run the Windows 8 compatibility checker?
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-vista-xp-tutorial
Open the Device Manager and see which devices are installed. That is important and will save a lot of time. Verify the wireless and wired network interface devices. Otherwise we will have to find out what they are the more difficult way.
You can install and run CPU-z  to find out which chipset and graphics device is installed. Use the tabs.  Once we know those, then finding the drivers is a possibility. The notebook may be a bit far back in generations for Windows 8, but Windows 8,1 does have a large builtin driverstore so it is a possibility.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7 Home Prem; Error code 0xC1900101

Have been trying to upgrade to Windows 10 (from Windows 7 Home Prem 64 bit). However, the upgrade fails showing an error code 0xC1900101. Tried uninstalling MCafee Antivirus and upgrading, but that fails too. Also, checked and installed all 'other' available system updates and tried. But no luck.During the installation process, the failure occurs when the system has finished copying and is in the process of installing drivers (that is, after the second restart). I have noticed that the 'installing drivers' process was also almost 90% complete. Once the second restart process begins, the system hangs and processor keeps running (and so does the cooling fan, at its highest speed). Earlier, had heating problems which used to hibernate my system during this process, but have fixed that now. And I get this new error message (in the subject above).Guess, the issue occurs when the system is trying to install drivers or when it is trying to upgrade its configuration. Need help!

I dunno if this is related but I had an error as well during the upgrade on an HP DV5. You can find more information on the error if you analyze the dump file (.dmp) found in the Windows.BT folder right after the upgrade fails. You can use a utility like BlueScreenView. In my case, the upgrade crashed at around 75% of the total process (when configuring settings). Analyzing the dump file showed that the error was caused by a driver named 000.fcl, related to Cyberlink and their DVD player. Turns out this is used in the HP QuickPlay feature. After removing HP Quick Play, the upgrade proceeded as normal. Hope it helps anyone with a similar problem !

  • Keyboard wireless key not working after upgrading to windows 8.1

    Hello,
I am having hp pavilion dv6-6165tx notebook, where keyboard having a wireless button that turns ON and OFF all wireless devices, After upgrading to windows 8.1, HP Connection Manager is not getting installed, as well as Key is not working, key color turns red and white but no action is performed.
    Kindly suggest me some solution.
Note: HP Doesn't provide drivers for windows 8/8.1 ONLY WINDOWS 7 for hp pavilion dv6-6165tx.
    Thanks.

    Hi @Jayesh_Bhadja ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-6165tx Notebook and the Wireless keyboard not working correctly. Here is a link to troubleshoot the keyboard.
The HP Connection Manager is something that is for Windows 7 not Windows 8.1. I would uninstall this from your Notebook.  Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating. It has a troubleshooting tool in this.
Make sure all your updates have been completed. I would try restarting my Notebook a few times.
If that does not help I would uninstall the keyboard from the Device manager.
    Thanks.

  • Bluetooth Not Working after upgrading to Windows 8.1

My Laptop is HP Pavilion G6 2015 tx after upgrade to windows 8.1, bluetooth is not working also the battery drain has increased anyone know a fix atleast for bluetooth problem ???

    You're very welcome.
That is very interesting, because I didn't know of anyone who upgraded to W8.0 with a Ralink wireless card with the BT 3.0 radio that got the BT to work at all.
We tried the W7 drivers, and they didn't work.
That is why you don't see a W8 Ralink BT driver for the bluetooth on your PC's support and driver page amongst the other 11 drivers listed.
The Ralink 3.0 version of BT is not supported in W8.
While somehow the BT has worked in W8 for you, I'm afraid your luck has run out.
Unless by some fluke, HP installed a card with the BT 4.0 radio on your model...
You can try this W8 driver for the Ralink card with the BT 4.0 radio, but don't get your hopes up.

  • Heating, Longer Startup issues after upgrading to Windows 8.1

It has just been about 1.5 years I have purchased this laptop and the way it is behaving now is killing me.
There was absolutely no problem while I was running Windows 8(which was my preloaded OS).
But after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 I am facing numerous problems which I am stating below.
Startup time has increased to double the time it took perviously( even after I disabled unnecessary startup entries ).
Laptop is getting heated from the moment it is started, no matter what I do or I do nothing and keep it idle(which earlier happened only when I played any high graphics game)
HP Support Assistant no longer works in Windows 8.1(I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times still no solution), so I am no longer able to get any technical support.
Right click on Desktop takes ~10 seconds to open up the menu(Once again checked and found no unwanted third party context meny handler entry blocking the right click)
Please help me out as soon as possible.

    Hello bob5e,
I am sorry to hear that you are unable to install successfully on your Windows 8.1 with your Officejet 4500 Wireless. I can see that the installation quits on you, giving you an error message. I am going to recommend trying a couple of things to hopefully make the installation successful.
    1. First of all, try installing by using The Printer Install Wizard for Windows which finds the correct driver for your unit and installs it.
    2. If that does not work, please try this next troubleshooting document step by step.

  • No Audio Output after Upgrading to windows 7; Soundblaster Card is installed

After upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), I found that my speakers (which are built into my HP w2207 monitor) are not recognized.  In the notification area I have the speaker with a red x in it, and it says “No Audio Output Device is installed”.
I have a HP Pavilion D4890Y with the Sound Blaster Audigy X-FI 24-Bit Xtreme sound card.  I tried looking in Device Manager, and found “Multimedia Audio Controller” under Other, which states no drivers could be found.
I tried following some of the advice online, and downloaded the latest Realtek High Definition Audio drivers, but and the download seems to run successfully, but I don’t notice any differences.  When I reboot as prompted, I’ve still got the same error.
I then tried forcing the Audio Device to use a Realtek driver, but Windows protests (saying it’s not sure it’s compatable with my device, and I end up with “Realtek High Definition Audio” under “Sound, video and game controllers”, but it has a yellow exclamation point.  If I click properties, the device status says “This device cannot start (Code 10).” If I try to update the driver I get the message that it cannot find the driver software.   If I uninstall the driver I’m back to the original problem (multimedia audio controller under original devices, with no known drivers).
I also tried downloading various files from the Creative site, but it’s not clear which one to use, and the 4 or 5 different ones I tried (including their recommended beta version for Windows 7), when each of them opens it says it can’t find any supported devices.
    Suggestions?  Thanks!

    Hi,
"If the driver is a previous revision install it using the TROUBLESHOOT COMPATIBILITY tool that is part of the Windows 7 OS.
To use the tool, uninstall any drivers for the sound card you show listed in Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall Programs  list.  Delete the Device from Device Manager.
Download the revision of the driver from www.creative.com  website to a folder you've created and placed on your desktop.
After the driver is downloaded, navigate to the "setup.exe" of the driver and Right Click - select Troubleshoot Compatibility  ----
Let the compatibility tool select a possible solution then use its suggestion of TRY RECOMMENDED WINDOWS SETTINGS, if it does not find a solution it will submit only CUSTOMIZE SETTINGS and let you install it as you designate."
The preceding information comes from a Microsoft Windows 7 forum regarding an issue similar to yours.
the information you provided did verify that it is a sound blaster XiFi Extreme card as checked against the Vendor / Device list.
    regards,
    erico
