Hp pavilion s5715 - computer freezes / black screen after i use it somewhat intensively

Hi,
I recently bought the HP Pavilion s5715 but when I used it even somewhat intensively (playing Left 4 Dead for example) it'll freeze / black screen after a short while (10 minutes or so).
I assume this has to do with overheating, but what would be a good fix for this? And how can I figure out what component overheats?

Hi,

  • HP Pavilion DV3 41700-EE Problem-Black Screen after installing graphic card driver

    Hi,
Laptop Model : HP Pavilion DV3 41700-EE Entertainment series.
I download the latest official driver for my lap top from this link : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-93326-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
After the installation i rebooted my device and after the windows loading i got a black screen ! i went to safe mode and unistall the video card and also it's driver from device manager and when i came back the black screen was gone but i have only my onboard Integ graphic which is very slow.
also i went to AMD web site and get AMD Catalyst from their web site but nothing happened after the installation and i think they don't provide an appropriate driver for my lap top.
i also tries to go to device manager and with right click on my display adapter and update driver point to the display driver location on my syste but this time it does not take time the black screen after restart, and in the middle of installation i got a black screen.
Also i upgraded my BIOS Firmware from 16 to 24, but nothing changed.
i just wanna know is it a software problem or hardware problem ? how can i find out that ?
also i don't want this switchy manner and i don't care about the power efficency. i just want to my device work on maximum performance.
What you suggest i do ?

Use the recovery manager to reinstall the original AMD graphics driver and Catalyst Control center.

  • Black Screen after computer boots to Win XP With NX6600 VTD 256

My son recently purchased a new computer and gave his old one to me to salvage what I wanted.Since he just a few months ago purchased my NX6600 VTD 256 from me I naturally salvaged that first. I tried to install the NX6600 in my other son's computer without success. First the particulars:
MSI 845 Pro2 Mobo, 512 mb 133 Mhz Ram, 1.7 Ghz Intel CPU, Aopen AO350 12A PNF power supply, 350 watts with 18 amps on the 12 volt rail.
I did a fresh install of winXP on a freshly formatted HDD. Installed service pack 2, the latest intel drivers, and 5 different versions of the driver packages including ver 77.77 all with the same results.
After the computer boots I am intermittantly faced with a black screen after the WinXP logo disappears. This sometimes happens 3 times in a row before I get a working screen. After a good boot the NX6600 benchmarks good with very good marks!
I am at this point strongly suspecting the power supply is not up to the task, even though the specs for the NX6600 recommend a 350 watt power supply.  Before I start removing all the hardware from the computer except for the NX 6600 to see if I have a hardware conflict, I doubt this because with the NX6600 installed without drivers I get a good boot every time.
    I'm open for suggestions.

Thanks for the reply boss killer.
I tried what you suggested with a CRS power supply 300 watts with 15 amps on the 12 volt rail.
    with the exact same results.
I then put the crs powersupply back into #1 son's old case reinstalled the nx6600 and gave it a go
Particulars for the old computer ECS K7VTA3 ver. 1 Mobo with 512 Mb DDR, nx6600VTD256 vid card and the CRS Power supply 300 watts with 15 amps on the 12 volt rail , and win XP pro service pack 2.
Funny the card works great without any problems with this setup! And the powersupply is 50 watts less and only 15 amps as compared to the other with 18!
I then pulled all the hardware out of #2's computer and tried it with only the memory, cpu, and NX6600 connected.
I had to boot 5 times before I had a working screen.
Now I'm thinking that there is somthing amiss with the NX6600 and the MSI 845 Pro2 ???
I'm thinking that I would be better off installing the K7VTA3 in #2 son's computer with the NX6600, since this works fine. When I did a benchmark with this setup it outperformed the *45 Pro 2 NX6600 combination By 300 points 2600 as compared to 2300 aqua mark points.
    Isn't this fun?

  • Black screen after BIOS update

    Hi there,
After updating BIOS with regular HP software (i forgot the name now), the computer shut down and from that moment when i turn it on the screen stays black (with computer apparently running). I read so many posts with similar problems and i tried few things but without success. I know that i am very close to solve the problem but from all the suggestions i am now simply confused. I would like to ask, if someone can guide me through step-by-step procedure, i figured out that i need to install a BIOS version on USB-stick, but exact details i am obviously missing.
I have HP Pavilion dv 6700 Entertainment PC and new HDD inside without HP_TOOLS on it.
    Thank you veeeeeryyyy much!

  • GTX590 Cant access NVIDIA control panel Black screen after 10 mins

    Hi,
I recently purchased an MSI GTX590 and encountered this problem " Cant access NVIDIA control panel Black screen after 10 mins". I am running Windows7 Ultimate SP1.
I did have an xfire setup of 2xHD6970's, I uninstalled all the old drivers then used driver sweeper to clean out any remaining folders, also uninstalling them from device manager.
Next I installed the latest version of drivers from the NVIDIA site only to find that I am stuck in safe mode resolutions for my screen I cant access the NVIDIA control panel as it is saying " You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia GPU ". In device manager it states that
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) ".
I have now uninstalled and reinstalled about 6 different versions of drivers from NVIDIA including the latest BETA drivers which all have the same issue??????
I have also gone to the MSI site and downloaded their latest recommended drivers for the GTX590 NVIDIA Graphics Drivers Version 267.91 which are the only ones that seem to work as in it fixes the screen to the proper resolution and lets me into the NVIDIA control panel yet after about 10-15 mins the screen will go black or the computer will just freeze. Rebooting causes the same issue after 10-15mins
I have noticed a few others out there experiencing the same problem but no fixes as of yet any ideas??

    Thankyou for the reply,
Tested the card in another working machine capable of running and its fine I am sure the PSU I have is more than capable of running this card I ran 2 6970's in xfire on the same PSU and motherboard with no problems.
I am running it on an 40"BRAVIA LCD and am using the DVI to HDMI converter that came with the GTX590 and I have also tried it with an DVI to HDMI cable also.
The system is stable under the latest NVIDIA drivers but the display drivers aren't recognized under device manager and the screen resolution is still stuck in the safe mode size, they are shown up as having the same "error 43" and I still can't get access to the NVIDIA control panel.
I strongly believe this is a driver issue or an issue relating to software within windows. To give you a rundown on several things that I have tried to isolate or fix the issue with is in a list here:
    1. Installed every different version of drivers on an fresh install of windows7 including the latest Beta drivers
    2. Tried to run the GTX590 on another machine and it runs using windows7
    3. Run different graphics card setup using the same PSU RAM and mb on windows7 no problems.
    4. Run the gfx card on only 1 gpu no change.
    5. Last step I will take is to install Windows7 without the SP1 as I have read elsewhere that similar problems have been fixed by doing this if that don't work might just sell my soul to the devil n see if he can fix it lol.

  • [SOLVED] Black screen after GRUB

    Hello everyone
I was setting up a machine with E17 and was trying various DM's since none seemed to work. After attempting to use LightDM, I get a black screen after GRUB. I was trying to read the various logs at /var/log/ but I cannot understand them properly. I tried reinstalling entrance and LightDM with no luck. I even tried editing grub's entry appending '1' or 's' and still no dice. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi tnx for both answers.
I missed something important in Xorg.log. As you can see, fbdev and modesetting aren't loading as usual. I didn't check grub stuff, I don't think it's related, since loading in level 3 (text mode) I get a black screen but I can login as root and turn off the computer blindlessly.

No, I can't get it to work changing DM's. I'm not sure if I pacman -Syu before changing DM's another time. Maybe it wasn't LightDM's fault afterall.

  • Black Screen after logging in locally to Windows 7 that previously had an open RDP session.

Here is what happens. I leave my home computer on (running Windows 7 Ultimate) and sometimes I will remote to it from another location (work, friends house, or wherever). When I return home, I will go to login, the screen then goes blank (no mouse cursor
or anything). I have to do a cold boot to get back into Windows. This only happens if I ever RDP into it sometimes during the day. It seems random. I've tried logging off the RDP session, just closing it without logging off, nothing seems to be the answer
in that regard. It seems very random at times. I'll go a week and I can come home and it will login fine with no problems. Then the next week it starts giving me the black screen after I come home and login locally. I've seen several black screen issues here,
but usually they are getting it before logon. Anyone have a clue what might be causing this?

  • Black Screen After Upgrading to Windows 8

    Hi
    I'm experiencing a black screen after upgrading a Dell N5050 B890 to Windows 8.
Tried to refresh the installation but the problem persited. re-installed the Windows 8, the machine logged in successfully but the problem arose again after reboot.
    Urgent assistance needed

    This problem is solved...
I guess the problem is concerned with the display module controller in the BIOS which is having a slight compatibility issue with windows 8.
This issue is solved by updating the BIOS of your Laptop/PC to the latest version. You can download the latest BIOS from the website of the Laptop company/Motherboard Company.
But for updating the BIOS, you have to start your computer/Laptop for at least one time in Normal Mode. So here are the steps to do so...
    1) Boot the Laptop/PC.
    2) After the boot screen (The Circle Animation & Windows 8 logo), you will be presented by the lovely & awesome blank screen.
    3) Wait for 1 minute so that drivers load into the memory.
    4) Press the Power button of your laptop/PC for only a moment (Just Press and release it quickly. Don't hold. We don't want to shut down).
    5) This will force the laptop/PC to go into Sleep mode.
    6) When the laptop/PC goes in sleep, the laptop fan & other sounds will stop.
    7) After 4-5 seconds, press the power button again & release it quickly.
    8) Voilllaa!!! The laptop/PC starts & you are presented with the lock screen. Now..... Login! What are you waiting for! :P
This is not the permanent solution. It just lets you start you Laptop/PC.
After updating the BIOS, I strongly suggest that you must download the latest graphics driver for your Computer/Laptop to avoid any further issues.

  • GTX670 - Signal lost/black screen after windows loading icon

    Hello,
I hope I am posting this in the correct forum area.  If not I do apologize.
    Here are my specs:
    Board: MSI Z97-G45 Gaming
Bios: ?? whatever pre-installed on mobo
    VGA:   MSI GTX670 OC
    PSU:   Corsair HX750 750W
    Intel Core i7-4790K
    MEM: 12 GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600 2x 4GB, 2x 2GB sticks
HDD: SSD Kingston 120 GB (Win7), HDD 1 TB WD 7200 RPM (Win7), HDD 1.5 TB WD 7200 RPM (storage)
COOLER: Corsair Hydro Series H60 Water Cooler
OC: no overclocking done by me..default settings
    OS: Windows 7 64bit Professional
So to keep this as direct and as short as humanly possible here is my situation.
Had a gtx670 card that I had to send back to MSI under RMA.  They sent me what looks like a new gtx670 card (no dust) that I received yesterday (4 Aug).  Last night I removed temporary old card (9800gt) and plugged in new 670gtx.  Things seemed to be ok, reinstalled driver after card was recognized.  Played one round of Battlefield 4 for testing purposes and all seemed good.
Upon exiting the game things went south in a hurry.  Moving the mouse cursor around was extremely slow and choppy.  Mouse clicks were not recognized.  I could not bring up ctrl-alt-del to get to task manager.  At this point the cursor turned to spinning circle as if things were happening.  However, after 5+ minutes of nothing changing I did a hard boot.
Restarted and after the windows loading screen the signal appeared to be lost to the monitor and I was left with black screen.  This was with the SSD.  I then attempted to load into the HDD windows OS that I hadn't logged into yet with this card and was greeted with the same issue.
I can load into Safe Mode with no issues.  In safe mode I removed all nvidia drivers and was then able to load into windows normally using basic windows vga drivers.  The moment I load the Nvidia drivers and restart the computer I then have the issue again.  This happens with both drives.
I have reset the video card in the PCI-Ex16 slot and still received the problem.  I have tried a different PCI-Ex16 slot and still had the issue.  I put the old 9800gt card back in and windows loaded perfectly and without issues on both drives.  I put the 670gt in and try to load into normal windows and I lose signal and get black screen after the windows loading screen.
I'm at a loss at the moment.  I think it's the drivers, but could it be the card?
Doing some research I've come across some people saying there may be issues with the nvidia HD audio drivers that are installed with the video drivers.  Could it be as simple as uninstalling or unchecking that particular driver?

Flashed the BIOS last night to the latest version and attempted to launch windows with the GTX670 card.  I still experienced the same issue where as soon as windows finishes it's loading animation (with Nvidia drivers) and it goes to the login screen, the monitors cut out.
At this point I feel like it has to be the card.  The moment I install the video drivers and restart, I have the problem of losing the signal/black screen.
    What I have done:
    1) Completely wiped any/all video related drivers from the computer and started from scratch. No success.
    2) Ran Memtestx86 to see if it's a problem with my memory sticks. No problems found.
    3) Put the card in a different PCI-Ex16 slot to see if there was a problem with the slot. No success.
    4) Flash updated the BIOS on the motherboard to the latest version. No success.
I have a dual boot computer with Windows 7 64-bit installed on an SSD and a HDD.  The problem happens on both drives.  Yet, the moment I install my old 9800GT the problem disappears and I can login to Windows just fine.
I will be sending the card back today on another RMA.

The strange thing is that it don't go in BSOD, but the screen stays black or windows crashes a few seconds after the start of the boot process. They said me on an Italian forum (I'm Italian) which is strange, with that vcore windows should start or at least should give me BSOD, no black screen.
Sorry, but that is basically nonsense.  When the overclock settings are unstable, all kind of things can potentially happen: BSODs, freezes, black screen, reboots etc.  There is no rule that when a certain VCore is applied the only "right" response would be a BSOD.

  • My Imac 24" goes black screen after start up. Booting from original CD or CMD R don't work, both go black screen

So, yesterday while playing a game of league of legends my Mac stopped running. After I resetted it, I got black screen after it the chime + loading bal.
    So far I've tried:
    CMD+R => black screen
    Holding shift => black screen
Holding Alt => chosing the HR, the repair disk, or the original CD to reintsall => black screen
Holding S => got to the terminal, did the check up, it said it was ok, restarted => black screen
Took off the power cable, waiting at least 15 seconds, and everything back on => black screen
    Holding Alt Cmd + p + R => black screen after restart
Removed 1 of the memories, then testen, same with the other one => black screen
I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point. Anything I've overlooked?

  • Satellite M70 - Black screen after recovery installation

So far what I have done is put in the Product Recovery DVD-ROM. Then when restarting my computer I was prompted to restore my computer to the factory defaults and said. After it went through that process it told me to remove the disc so I did. Now all it does is reach a black screen after the Toshiba screen that gives me the options to f2 for setup and f12 for options.
I do not know what to do now to make my laptop work again. Please help.

Satellite M70 is old notebook model and I would like to know do you use recovery disc for the first time. I had Satellite M70-159 long time ago and have installed recovery image many times.
Which installations mode you have used: standard mode or expert mode?
    Try to install it again.
As Xardas wrote try to obtain Microsoft installation disc and check if everything works well.

The problem is whenever i install the AMD Display driver it says that there were some errors during the install and the pc freezes and restarts into a black screen...
AMD Display drivers 13.152-130830A-162882C(18 Oct 2013)
