Hp Pavilion Sleekbook insydeh20 bios system log events

Hello, after few failure messages, now the laptop boot correcly, entering in BIOS and choice system log I see a list of events stored in a list, is there any utility or options for delete all the events (system diagnostic failure results)?
The same for HP Diagnostic Tool UEFI Results, any option for cancel all events?
Thank you
Max

Hello @shenseera ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to make calls on your notebook because the mic is not working.
What software are you using to make the calls? Does it say no mic detected or is it that people cannot hear you?
Please test your mic by following this video:
I would also suggest going through this guide to troubleshoot microphone issues in Windows 8: Resolving Microphone and Line-in Problems (Windows 8).
Let me know if that works.

  • Retain Console System.log Events file for Usage Analysis

I recently became interested in tracking the usage of some Apple computers. I discovered that the system.log events file in Console provides the login and logout times. So, I was able to use that to calculate how much time the computers are being used. This was very handy because there was data from October 2010 to June 2011. I went back a few days later and discovered the log files had been purged all except a few weeks of data. Is there any way to prevent them from being purged? Or, can I increase the size of the retained system.log file? What's the point of a log file tracking events if it's only going to be deleted? Alternatively there are programs designed to keep track of computer usage such as login and logout times as well as user usage by application. Would you recommend one of these?

Thanks for bringing the typo to my attention. I've corrected that now. I'm reminded of the phenomenon by which we see and read words as groups of letters regardless of their positioning.
I've not really had any specific system problems that cause huge log files. However, sometimes when diagnosing problems it's nice to have a long period of time to examine possible issues.
Regarding your #3, opening .bz2 files... Have you saved these log files from Console and then tried opening them? It's just bazaar. The file opens to another file, then opens to another file, and so on. You never see the actual file contents. Others have observed the same thing.
Regarding your #4, I created the script you mention. It's described here:
    http://www.resourcesforlife.com/docs/item4103
However, I'd like to just go ahead and use the existing system.log events.

  • System Log Event ID 4321 every 30 seconds, system name conflict for a name not in use

    -- Symptom --
System event log shows an error with event ID 4321 every 30 seconds:
The name "pac-1          :2d" could not be registered on the interface with IP address 172.20.51.206. The computer with the IP address 172.20.21.2 did not allow the name to be claimed by this computer.

    OS:  Windows 7 x64 Enterprise
    Network:  Enterprise domain
    DHCP:  Yes
    WINS:  via DHCP
    -- Additional information --
This computer was set up from an image.  The image was built with the system being named 'pac-1'.  This system's name was changed to 'pac-11' before (or possibly shortly after) joining the domain and now has a completely different name, and there
is no system on the network with the name 'pac-1' (there are 'pac-3', and other numbers, but no 'pac-1')
I have renamed the system with no change to the frequency of the error, and I cannot find 'pac-1' in the registry anywhere except for strings located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\LANDesk\Inventory\LogonHistory\Logons that list prior logons.
I've done my google research and have found great information for plenty of other people's situations, just not this one.  Any helpful advice is welcome.
    Thank you!

I'd check my WINS server's registration entries, if they contain an
entry with that NETBIOS name. If the machine with the ip-address
172.20.21.2 is not your WINS server you need to check, what services
etc. are running on that machine. Also look if the domain/workgroup
name, which is used by this machine is correct and identical to all
    other machines.

  • Archive Windows System logs (event viewer)

    Hi Guys,
    Good Day.
I want to export daily all System event logs and generate report to a .CSV or .TXT file and then copy the report file to,
    the following location \\Archivenasprd01\Appspr01\ddmmyyyy:
or is it possible to schedule this job ever 1 or half on hour and copy all the system event logs to the same above location with create valid time-stamp
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
    >>or is it possible to schedule this job ever 1 or half on hour and copy all the system event logs to the same above location with create valid time-stamp
Based on your description, we can utilize a script and schedule a task to run the script to save the System event logs.
For the script, in order to get better help, we can ask for suggestions in the following two forums.

  • How to display system security events logs in Cisco router 4980

    Hi,
in order to perform acceptance tests following the installation of a Cisco 4980 router cluster, I need to verify that any system security events are logged and I can diplay them on the CLI output (for example with the #show logging command).
By system security events logs, I mean for example bad authentification on the switch, creation/deletion/modification of a user accoount, telnet connexion attempt while this protocol is not allowed, etc...
With the #show logging command, I have security events related to  access-list, or configuration changes (even if these ones are not  really verbose on waht have been changed), but no "system" security  events.
Here is my logging initial logging configuration on these routers:
    logging rate-limit 1 except errors
    logging console critical
    logging monitor critical
But I also tried like this:
    logging rate-limit 1 except errors
    logging console informational
    logging monitor critical
    logging history informational
    logging facility auth
    But exactly the same result...
Is this feature exist or not ?
If yes, how to configure it ?
    Thanks.

  • System.log filling up with: mbp kernel[0]: dp events: 0x04

    Dec 21 17:09:52 mbp kernel[0]: dp events: 0x04
This line seems to repeat 5 or 6 times per minute, filling system.log.
Looks like it started Dec 19th. I don't see any obvious unusual thing I did at that time.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, jeff

Although Apple has not fixed this yet, I have learned some interesting things. While on the phone with Apple, they had me run a Data Capture program to collect info about my system to send back to them.
While running the application, I had Console open so I could look at the system log. To my surprise, after running this application, the repeating dp events: 0x04 completely stopped and the mouse cursor behaved normally. The mouse continued to behave normally until I put the computer to sleep and woke it up again.
    In summary:
    1) The dp events: 0x04 messages are present when the mouse skips and not present when it doesn't. This seems like proof that the muliple writes to the system log are what make the cursor skip.
    2) Running Capture Data.app (from the Apple tech) runs a handful of scripts that not only capture data, but also kills the dp events for some reason.
I have verified this four different times and reported my findings to the Apple tech I was speaking to.
Can anyone else who receive the data capture program from Apple give this a shot? Just have Console open and look at your system log before, during, and after running the program. Perhaps you'll see as I did that the dp events go away and your mouse works right (at least until sleep).

Machine came with pre-installed windows 8, and I hate that.
Can someone help me figure out the issue here... cause i have used the same bootable USB (windows 7) on another machine and it worked without any issues.
    Thanks

  • Total lock-ups with fan running - translate system.log file please!?

Hi, all. My late 2005 2.3 gig dual G5 has been experiencing random lock ups for as long as I can remember. My system is up to date and I have tested each pair of the 5 gigs of ram that I have and the system freezes with each pair. It can happen at any time, when I am doing absolutely nothing, for example, overnight. I am at my wits end!
Here's the system log file for the latest freezes. Can anyone tell me what's going on here??? I really need to get to the root of this problem. Thanks so so much in advance.

    Hi-
The machine seems to be having trouble with loading certain drivers, but, as this isn't a crash log, and doesn't show the "hang-up" or freeze, it's hard to tell.
    Noted possibilities are:
-Microsoft keyboard (possible USB power problem)
-firmtek driver (from archive) questionable due to the "archive" annotation
-Wacom tablet driver, causing system problems
Running in Safe mode without freezes would help to determine if one of these drivers is the problem.
Other possibilities are outdated drivers, or simply a need to reinstall the OS.
If unnecessary, removing the driver(s) would be a good idea.
External USB and Firewire devices are all suspect, should all be disconnected, revert to Apple keyboard, and test system performance. Adding one device at a time, and testing each will be necessary to clear each device.
I have experienced system trouble when a Wacom tablet was not connected, but the driver was left installed.
Disabling the driver from Startup items may be necessary to test without the Wacom tablet connected.

  • Times in system.log different than server's clock

    Hello,
The time that an event is recorded in system.log is different that the current time in the server's clock. For example, there is the entry:
    Dec 7 02:22:42 XServe DirectoryService[52]: Failed Authentication ....
but the time on the server is Dec 7 12.22:42.
    I use Mac OS X Server 10.4.3.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions on how to make the times appear correctly in system.log.

    I've tried this:
I've put log4j.jar to the lib dir of the logicalhost and log4j.properties to another jar (my own) and put it to the lib dir too. I deleted the PropertyCOnfigurator.configure() line from the apps. Built it, manually deleted log4j.jar from the EARs. Then I deployed EARs, restarted the domain and ran the apps. They both logged to the same and correct file, but again the rolling didn't work. How is this possible? I thought that this way the IS should have one and only one instance of Log4j...

  • ICal writing tons of log messages into system.log

    Hi all,
I've got an issue with iCal under Leopard 10.5.1.
Sometimes my syslogd process grabs ~100% CPU time and so I took a look into system.log.
I saw MANY lines like this:

Any idea how to fix this?
Here's another problem that might be related to this: my "Private" calendar was published in 10.4 but now the webdav server that was used for this is no longer existent (and can't be setup again).
So I wanted to unpublish my Private calendar but this wasn't possible. When trying to unpublish it I get the error message "This calendar could not be unpublished. Authentication information may be incorrect."
If I select the "Cange location..." menu entry in the context menu of the Private calendar I still see the webdav server address and the Login and Password fields are filled. But because this server no longer exists publishing is no longer possible. Which is fine with me.
So, how can I get rid of the publishing? Because I get tons of error messages in system.log, too, for this behaviour. Everytime the system tries to publish this calendar...
    Thanks,
    Stefan.

I am not much of a help, but I just wanted to say that my iCal just experienced the same problems for the first time today...

  • Understanding the system log (boot time 2 minutes)

    Dear Apple Discussion,
I am trying to read the system.log correctly - mainly because my boot time is 2 minutes.
I have read that the beginning of the boot up is indicated by the line:
localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
    is this correct?
    Next, does the line:
loginwindow[165]: Login Window Started Security Agent
indicate that the login window has come up?
If both of these are correct then my boot time should be 18s (according to the time stamps in the log) - it defefinitely is not that.
Does the boot process start instead at this line:
    shutdown: reboot by root:
If this were the case, the boot time would be closer to 2 minutes according to the log (which is what it actually is).
This then brings up the next problem: the two minutes basically come from the following line:
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt shutdown: reboot by root:
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt SystemStarter[177]: authentication service (194) did not complete successfully
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : unloading cisco ipsec kernel module.
    Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : detaching from interface: en1.
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : interface en1, filter has been safely detached.
    Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : detaching from interface: en0.
Nov 29 17:30:24 Purrfekt kernel[0]: CiscoVPN : interface en0, filter has been safely detached.
Nov 29 17:32:12 localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
ending line of the boot process occurs at (if my above assumption is correct):
Nov 29 17:32:31 Purrfekt loginwindow[165]: Login Window Started Security Agent
So why does it hang for so long at this one process? Am I reading the log incorrectly? I have searched around here and also on google ("slow boot time", "cisco vpn tiger", etc..) but haven't found anything relating to my problem.
    Thanks for any help.
    MonkeyApple
    v.1 PowerBook G4 15''   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I am trying to read the system.log correctly - mainly because my boot time is 2 minutes.
It appears to be that a restart or shutdown process delays nearly 2 minutes rather than a startup process, presumably due to one of WindowServer children or a bug stays in Mac OS X 10.4.3 Update-- Mine delays approximately 30 - 40 minutes on PowerMac G5 2.7 Ghz on every shutdown or restart process. Your computer is PowerMac G4 so that make sense. I found a suspect application which is a security related. Although I am still investigating further because the issue does not occur on the lower drive bay where I install another Mac OS X 10.4.3 Update (but no third-party software) as a test facility.
localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
This is correct and the first line to display sequential events in a boot process.
loginwindow[165]: Login Window Started Security Agent
This is also a normal behavior.
SystemStarter[xxx]: authentication service (xxx) did not complete successfully
This can be displayed depending on a computer configuration.
A sequential event from CiscoVPN: unloading cisco ipsec kernel module to CiscoVPN: interface en0, filter has been safely detached seems to be all right if you PROPERLY configure VPN policy and IPsec (Internet Protocol Security) authenticate, etc for your Cisco device. IPsec is a framework for a set of protocols for security at the network or packet processing layer of network communication.
I suggest to check all related settings with Netwrok/Sharing panes and the router configurations for VPN (IPsec), IPv6, security, etc. Also check routing table and all socket connections after you launch Network Utility or via Terminal commands.
FYI: interface en0 is a wired connection and interface en1 is a wireless connection such as AirPort. IPsec kernel module is a unit of kernel program or componet for IPsec.
    Hope this helps.

  • System.log after crash

I recently had my macbook pro repaired by applecare. For three years the computer was crashing whenever i played world of warcraft. after receiving it back form apple they had replaced the logic board, 2 fans and two thermal sensor cables. The game and everything else worked like a charm for the past two days... right now, however, all hardware cut out.. couldn't move the mouse, keyboard wouldn't respond.. but i was still receiving instant messengers. finally everything froze and i had to power down.. here is what the sysem.log file said. any ideas?

  • Errors in system log?

OK, so I'm relatively new to Mac OS X, but that's on the back of some 20 years of working with UNIX, so I'm well placed to handle Mac OS X.... or so I thought!
In fact, compared to generic UNIX systems, there's so much added to Mac OS X that it might as well be a totally different system.
Anyway, I've got this iMac G5 (iSight) 2.1 GHz, which came with 10.4.2 installed, and which I've fully updated (using Software Update) to 10.4.3. After the update, a few glitches have revealed themselves - like the Dock will sometimes just apparently lock up - clicking back on the desktop seems to be a fairly reliable way of unfeezing the Dock, but it's annoying nonetheless.
The glitches prompted me to look further into the system, and in particular, when I look at the system log, via Console, right after rebooting, I see some messages there that may or may not be of significance:
    - SystemStarter[879]: authentication service (887) did not complete successfully
    - localhost kernel[0]: AppleU3: WARNING: platform-chip-fault expected, but not found
    - launchd: Server 0 in bootstrap 1103 uid 0: "/usr/sbin/lookupd"[65]: exited abnormally: Hangup
I must admit, the second of those seems a bit odd to me!
But, can anyone tell me how 'bad' these errors are? Do I need to delve further into their causes, or do Aqua and Darwin handle such 'events' quite gracefully (which I'll accept is more than possible)?
Whilst I was talking with one of the AppleCare guys earlier today, I tried to ask him about these syslog messages, but the response I got was that I should consult http://www.apple.com/support/mac101 !!! Right, very helpful!
AppleCare is great, I think, for users who simply need a bit of hand-holding and instruction in how to use their Mac. That's fine, as long as everything is working as it should - but when we're more advanced as users than that, and we have a more technical issue to resolve, whereand how are we supposed to get help from even more knowledgable support personnel?
Or are these discussion forums the best bet?
    Nigel

    Nigel,
While the error messages you are seeing might not be anything to worry about (you will see some of these even in the best of circumstances, but I cannot speak to yours, specifically), you shouldn't be seeing any "wonky" behavior. The fact that you are indicates that something might, indeed, be wrong.
My best advice to you would be to start with a clean slate. I just received a new machine, myself (this beautiful new 17" Powerbook), and I spent the past day doing just that: starting "clean."
What I mean by this is formatting the drive right out of the box, then reinstalling. And, not just any format, but a "zeroing" of the entire drive. This took about 45 minutes on my PB, but the process will "map out"any potential bad blocks on the drive, thereby reducing the possibility of encountering disk errors for the near future. Another good reason to reinstall yourself, even if you don't "zero" the drive, is that Apple often ends up installing the wrong version of an OS to a given machine, especially if that machine has just been released. We see many cases where a user will find, by reinstalling from the disks that come with new Mac models, that the OS is slightly different than the one that was originally installed, and that the disk-installed version works without problems. Hmmm.
Unless and until you do this yourself, you will not have a firm foundation from which to troubleshoot any problems you might be having. If, after having done this, you find that you still have problems, the next thing to look for is a bad RAM module. If you rule out a bad RAM module, only then should you consider the possibility that something is wrong with the machine, itself.

  • NSRangeException in system.log

I bought a new MacBook Pro for 2 weeks.
I just noticed that the system.log keeps showing the following "warning" (maybe not a warning) message when I login/logout different users.
Is there a security problem in my new MacBook Pro?
    Thanks
    Wayne

This isn't SecurityAgent reporting a security problem, this is the UI frameworks logging a programming error in the SecurityAgent program, and the retainCount lines look like debugging code that shouldn't exist in released programs - temporary stuff the programmer forgot to remove before release.
I just checked on my 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 systems - and I've got some of these on both.
I'm a SW engineer - and as far as I'm concerned, these don't look worrisome, though Apple should do some cleanup on SecurityAgent.

  • MDDataSetBW.GetCellData. See RFC trace file or SAP system log for more...

    Ingo,
I am getting below error message in BO Test environment when I refresh WebI document.
MDDataSetBW.GetCellData. See RFC trace file or SAP system log for more details
It was working when we migrated the objects initially. Subsequently when we try to refresh WebI document we are getting the above error message. It still works in BO Dev environment and the no of records are the same in Dev and Test.
I am able run the underlying BEx query in SAP BW Test environment and it does return data.
I checked ST22 and SM21 log, but no details there.
Is it related to Authorization on the Universe or Bex Query?
We are in the middle of UAT and not able to move forward. I would greatly appreciate your input.
    Thanks
    Ram

    Ingo,
I ran the zip file and added the required entries to registry.
And then I tried to reproduce the error, but the files are not generated instead I noticeed below error message on the server:
The description for Event ID ( 7939 ) in Source ( Crystal OLAP Client ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Registry Access Error: , [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]Software\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\MDA\Log\Modules: The system cannot find the file specified..
Does tha t mean we do not have permissons to read the registry?
I would greatly appreciate your input.
    Thanks in advance.
