HP Pavilion starts up in hibernate/sleep mode and remains there - there is nothing on the monitor

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-250f (Core i7) desktop computer.
I was using the internet. Suddenly, the computer made some sound, and the screen went blank. The computer seemed to go into its usual hibernate/sleep mode. Usually, when the computer goes into hibernate/sleep mode (after some period of not being used), the color on the power button changes from blue to yellow. But, this time, the color remained blue.
Usually, I can move the mouse and get out of this mode. But, this time, I moved the mouse, and nothing happened.
I pressed and held the power button and turned off the computer. I then turned the computer back on. The power button was blue, there was a green light on the back of the computer, and the fans were working. But there was nothing on the screen.
I restarted several times, and there remains nothing on the screen. There is no beeping sound when the computer is restarted.
What do I do? Please help. Thank you.

I removed the RAM memory cards and reinstalled them. That solved the problem.

I'm new to the MAC world. I turned my computer on from 'sleep' mode, and a window was up stating that the IOS disk was full; asked me to force quit, then it just froze. It's been 2 hours. Help! I'm worried about losing photos/videos of my children. Im not sure if there's something special I need to do once I turn it back on; in the meantime, its still on... which I'm afraid the picture on the screen will burn into the screen. Does that happen on iMac's? Thx!

Try a hard reset. ( holding Power til it restarts)
Once to your desktop. Click the Apple icon >> About this mac >> More info>> Storage
Once you see what you have the most of. Try to see what you can delete.
Open up any folder>>all files>> or buy an external to store more data.
Once deleting make sure you empty your trash.
If you are new and its a new computer, you might need to bring it to a store for further assistence.

  • Help! Stuck on white screen after sleep mode and won't start again!

Bought the iMac last week, updated to 10.5.1. Worked well until this morning after I did a security update. Then put it in sleep mode - and basta! After I wanted to work on it again - it didn't restart. So, I had to switch off using power button, but it never started again and always got stuck on the white screen with the Apple logo and the rotating loop. Tried to repair permissions - cannot do it, as it says there is an error. Tried to re-install from DVD the Leopard while archiving the previous information - can't do either - says error. Now trying to re-install it again with an erase option. But this is not a good option, people! This is pretty very much disappointing, Apple!
    Can anyone help, please!

Boy that is way too bad.
Could you tell us what the error message was?
While sometimes the error messages are not very informative, other times they are. That might be a clue as to what is going on.
When you restart from the DVD you have the option to access Apple's Disk Utility and repair the disk.
You might want to try that, skip repairing permissions at this point.
You can also reset the computer by unplugging all cables including the power cable for at least 15 seconds and then plug in the power cable and keyboard and restart.
You can reset the PRAM by holding down the command-option - p - r keys simultaneously during restart and waiting for the startup chime then releasing those keys after the second chime to allow the start to continue.

  • After hibernate/ sleep mode Tecra M11 doesn't wake up

    Hi,
On a 8 month old machine if I let machine go into hibernate/ sleep mode with power settings it will not wake up .
I can get it going again by removing and replacing the battery .
I have done a restore to a few days ago when this problem did not exist ..same result
    Any offers ? Thanks

Did you check if the system recovery would fix this annoying problem.
The usage of recovery disk would set the notebook back to the factory settings which might solve the issue. But backup the data before doing this.
The usage of HDD recovery would format only the C partition so maybe its better option for you.

I have read your post on how your monitor goes into sleep mode and will not wake up, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To rule out any sleep mode issues with the monitor, I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try a different cable connecting your monitor to your computer
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Macbook spontaneously goes into sleep mode and screen off mode

Hi. My Macbook spontaneously goes into sleep mode and screen off mode with varying time between each instance. It usually goes for a few minutes or even hours without doing it and then will go through periods of fluctuation between the modes. I believe this to have started with a minor orange juice accident rather than it being anything software related.
Any ideas as to how I might rectify the problem? Thanks very much in advance,
    Danny

When you say it goes into sleep mode ...do you mean you actually see the white pulsing light?
It may be that there is an application running (perhaps in the background) that is keeping your book awake. Printer software sometimes does this for example ...try logging out and seeing if it sleeps like that. If it does, then it very well may be a background process running.
You may find some items in System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items that may be the culprit.

    Remove "Boom" and test.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

  • Ever since my iphoto library crashed (ran out of space without warning) my mcbook pro has been slow, unresponsive, freezes in sleep mode and won't restart... please help.

    Hi everyone
Ever since my iphoto library crashed (ran out of space without warning) my mcbook pro has been slow, unresponsive, freezes in sleep mode and won't restart...
I've since backed everything up on an external hard drive, removed the corrupt library, even reinstalled the operating software and there is now hardly anything on the hard drive, it still runs painfully slow. If I close the lid which puts it in sleep mode, it either doesn't go into sleep mode but instead the battery just gets drained and I find it completely empty of power (it won't start again unless plugged in), or it goes into sleep mode but just freezes when I try to reopen.
In iphoto (reinstalled) but even other applications it is painfully slow, not like a mac at all!
I am trying to go to genius bar with it but thinking maybe someone in this forum can help...
    Many thanks
    Andre

  • Laptop won't go to sleep mode and shut down properly.

hello,           My name is Atul and i upgraded my laptop hp pavilion 15-p017tu from win 8.1 to win 10 on 29h july. My laptop was working great before the upgrade and before upgrading i updraded ( updated ) all the drivers and windows too.          so, after the upgrade i have been facing the same problem which has been shared by many peple here..i.e win doesn't go to sleep mode. In my case when ever i put the sys to sleep mode, the screen turns off but the power button doesn't blinks and i can't go back to the normal mode by using mouse curser or pressing the power button back. I have to physically shut down the system by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.         Also, my system won't shut down properly and it is the same as the sleep mode probem. I have contacted the customer care of microsoft and hp both and they did some setting changes but the problem keeps coming back. I have also told by the hp care that they will take atleast a month or two to fix this as this may be due to hardware not supporting the current driver so this might take time. They also told me to just downgrade to win 8.1 and after sometime when this poblem is fixed i can again install and upgrade win 10. If any of you guys know how to fix this problem do share it here.      thanks!!

    Hi ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 p017tu Notebook and issues with the sleep mode and shut down not working correctly. Go into the Device Manger and go to display adapters. Update the driver. Select the Automatically search for updated drivers.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating after Windows 10 upgrades . I hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Freezing in sleep mode, and now constant "kernel panic"?

My Mac Pro (with Leopard) has been working fine, but then all of a sudden when I came home today I went to wake it up from sleep mode and I found it was frozen. I restarted it, and before I had a chance to do anything a screen that said "You need to restart your computer" came on, which I hear is called the kernel panic. I did that, even waited several minutes, but as soon as I turn it on it comes right back. I'm not able to do anything to fix the problem because it is within a minute of booting up that the screen comes back on. I added nothing new in the last day, updated last week and everything was working fine.
What can I do to fix this problem, if I have under a minute to actually use the computer to fix it...thank you!

If necessary, you could try getting files off the MacPro using Firewire Target Disk Mode if it works...
although it sounds like the drive is gone.
If you have two Macs that are FireWire-equipped, you can connect them so that one of them appears as an external hard disk on the other. This is sometimes called Target Disk Mode.
    To transfer files using FireWire:
Shut down the computer to be used as a disk. Leave the other computer on.
Connect the two computers with a FireWire cable.
Start up the computer to be used as a disk, then open System Preferences, click Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start it up while holding down the T key.)
A disk icon appears on the desktop of the other computer.
Transfer files by dragging them to and from the disk.
Eject the disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.)
On the computer you used as a disk, push the power button to shut it down, and then disconnect the FireWire cable.

The button on my Ipod Touch (the big one just below the screen) will not work when I press it. Nothing happens, when before it would wake my IPod out of sleep mode, and exit out of programs I was using (ex. ITunes or Safari to main screen) . Now, no reactions. Hello. My mac pro early 2008 restarts after sleep mode and it works slower. I tested it with apple hardwear test and it seems to be ok. Thank you.

    Try this:
clone your system and repair it with Disk Warrior instead
Or try a clean test system install on another drive
A must: SmcFanControl 2.2 - a mere 400 rpm extra to keep air cooling up
Try to run w/o externals. MyBook included.
Is that a 7200.11 1TB? they had a lot of issues.
Run AHT off your OEM DVD.
2008 had to have EFI and SMC updates to deal with freezes on wake from sleep, and like all models, high inrush current.  Hopefully you have a UPS and is 1500VA unit.
When you do hard restart from power button, you almost certainly add more directory errors and to files requiring immediate attention to repair and rebuild the directory; and to scan and repair and delete cache and temp files and folders. A must. Invest in bootable backups SuperDuper along with Disk Warrior (or TechTool Pro 6, maybe Drive Genius 3 but I'd rate that #3).
TimeMachine has its own bad habits, especially with Green drives and some externals.
Try to rule out everything and then add back one at a time.
And it may just be time to replace the 8800, very common, a couple threads this week, and it is 3 yrs old.  Might want ATI 5870 or 5770.
