HP Pavilion t490 with faulty power supply

My HP Pavilion t490 has a faulty Bestec ATX-250-12Z Rev. C power supply, HP pn. 5187-1099. I can get a cheap second hand 300W version of the same make and size, Bestec ATX-300-12Z Rev.: CC, HP pn: 5188-0131.
Will it be ok to replace my 250W PSU with the 300W one?

Jeevs,
You have 3 different posts into separate forums. Not a good idea cross posting into the wrong subs. I'll consolidate the issues concerning your p6-2302eam desktop.
(1) posted in laptop sub: Buying a graphic card based on a cheap price (your words).  The replacement card needs to be predicated on the software (game). A cheap low end card does nothing but frustrate. What are your gaming desires?
(2) The PSU question could be only answered based on the card requirements. (added wattage).
(3) Added to a 18month old issue:  changing to WIN7 from WIN8.1.  You have another issue UEFI, read this article.

My iMac went totally went black tonight when my grandchildren were using the iMac. I can't power it up? Have there been issues with the power supply?

It may just be the power cord (between the mains and the computer).   If you have an Apple store or Authorised store near you, take the cord in and check it out.  Indeed, check if it has been partly pulled out by pressing it firmly into the back of the computer.

  • Help for beginner: Need labview signal to power on =2 actuators of 8 with one power supply

I am a beginner in using labview. I need to use labview signal to turn on >=2 ac 8 actuators with one power supply. The 24VDC, 0-3A power supply is enough to drive all 8 actuators which need 24VDC and 0.1A current. So the main function is like turning on 2 or more than 2 switches in series with the 8 actuators with one power supply. Any suggestion of some simple module for this purpose? Thanks.

Maybe I didn't say the question clear. I have one power supply (24VDC, 0-3A) and 8 solenoid valves (24VDC and 0.1A). Two valves (or more than two in future) have to be activated each time. I would like to find something that can work like switches installed in series with the valves. Then I can wire the valves (with the switches) in parallel with the power supply. As I turn the switches on and off with signals from Labview board, power to that specific valve will be turned on and off.
Any advice for this kind of switches or any module that can be controlled by Labview signal? Please help! Thanks.

  • 17"display with extern power supply won´t work

    Hi there,
my second display a 17"apple studio display (CRT with VGA) just works every now and then. Can´t locate what´s wrong, I already changed the graphic card, no result. In system profiler both displays are listed mostly, also in the display menue on the topbar, though as soon as I tell to recognize the displays only the main display remains. The 17" display has the extern power supply, but it´s a original apple as well. Thought it might be a bad contact, but can´t find anything. Living here in spain I nearly have no chance to check the display by a dealer. I would be grateful for some help, Michael.

  • Powering down display with external power supply

I am using a 23" display with an old PowerMac G4 from 1998 with an upgraded video card and external power supply.
Is there any way to power off the monitor without powering down the computer? Ideally I'd like this to happen automatically based on my system prefs, but apparently the external power supply precludes this.
As a "workaround", I've created a screen saver that displays a black image. Does this actually save any energy and/or extend the life of my display?
    Thanks,
    - Michael

    Hi Michael,
    Welcome to the discussions.
You can install an on-off switch on the power lead to the external power supply (actually, it's safer to have a qualified electrician do this, as you are dealing with a mains power supply). I have this system for my ADC 15" Display, and it works fine.
A black screen saver will not extend the life of your monitor. Screen savers were meant to mitigate the "burn in" effect that happens with CRT displays (and which doesn't happen with LCD displays). If the display is still on, the backlights will still be functioning and they are the finite life component of the LCD display that you need to look after. Also, because the LCD's themselves use so little energy, there will not be much energy saving.
It's more appropriate to "sleep" the display. You can do this (via Energy saver settings in System Preferences) without having to "sleep" the entire computer. This will turn off the backlights and significantly extend the life of the display.
(I'm presuming you are using OS X - you haven't supplied any details regarding your system. :))
    Cheers!
    Karl

  • Re: Equium L350-10L - first start with battery power supply

I have just bought an Equium L350-10L. When it arrived it was powered up using the battery and the Windows installation began. However the battery expired and I cannot get past the "unexpected shut down" message even after rebooting.
How can I get back to square one and restart the installation process? Advice.

Oh buddy, so silly idea. I really can not understand you. After weeks or maybe months in the box, it is logic that battery can not run with full capacity.
Anyway, connect your notebook to AC power supply and leave it for a while. Start notebook again to see what will happen. If the setup procedure can not be finished start notebook again and press F8 immediately. Chose first option Repair my Computer and follow the menu on the screen. The OS will be installed again and you will be able to finish OS setup procedure.

  • Does the HP 5500-24G-PoE+ (JG541A) come with a power supply?

The documentation is unclear. I need to know if a single hot-swap power supply is included with the JG541A switch. Documentation says "Must Select Min 1 Power Supply".
I would assume it has one, but the image HP has of the back of the switch shows no power supply.
    Thanks!

  • Is this computer compatible with this power supply?

I was just wondering how I can tell what power supply is compatible with my motherboard? I am considering on going to bestbuy and buying a better power supply for the use of a graphics card
    my new computer is a Gateway - Desktop / Intel® Core™ i3 Processor / 8GB Memory / 1TB Hard Drive
    Model: DX4840-03E | SKU: 9973838
and I have an XFX PVT98GYAF3 GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
so i don't know what to get on terms of a power supply, and what is compatible with my computer. I live close enough to the Bestbuy in Moline, Illinois. So I want to get one instore not order one online

I am willing to bet that the current PSU in your computer would support the GPU you are wanting to install on the computer. That GPU is not as power-hungry as a top-end card, so won't utilize too much power.
I honestly would recommend installing the GPU first prior to spending money on a PSU you may not need. If the computer seems to not be working, you should be able to install the corsair 650w PSU into your computer without many complications -- however I would talk to a local Geek Squad Counter-intelligence agent prior to purchasing the product.

  • Problems with Uninterruptible Power Supply on an OS X Server 10.6

    Hello
Since years we are working with OS X Server on different Hardware (macmini, MacPro, Xserve) using Uninterruptible Power Supplies from APC. Till 10.6 without any problems
Since we installed our new server with 10.6, I recognized the communication with the APC (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and the OS X Server with the USB-Cable is very irrealible. When we look to the screen of the server there appears lots of Windows with an Error Message that the Power was interrupted. I also have the problem recognized on an OS X Server which I updated from 10.5 to 10.6 (On 10.5 I never had this warnings)
I can't image that this is a problem of the Source. We here in Switzerland have a very relealible Source with an Uptime off at least 99.99%
Has some recognized the same behavior with the new OS X server 10.6
    Gérard

Is it saying that your machine went on UPS power (the error messages you're referring to)? I ask because I have noticed this on two new xServes I setup recently on APC UPS (which are also brand new). About once a week, I'll see an error on each xServe that it was on UPS power but by the time I see it, its on standard power again.
I haven't spent much time on it yet since these are both pre-production test servers until I work out some kinks but I was assuming it was some kind of test by the UPS where it was checking the battery and placing units on backup power periodically as some sort of self test? That's probably not correct though considering you're experiencing the issue as well.
Perhaps it is time to place a call in and see if apple is aware of any issues since I'm only seeing this on 10.6 servers.

  • Nexus 5548 - PFMA-2-PS_HIGH_VIN message on device with DC power supply

    Hi,
we got following message on Cisco Nexus 5548 (NX-OS 6.0(2)N2(3)):
    2014 Aug 25 06:41:11 MO-BPROD-AS-N5k-1 %PFMA-2-PS_HIGH_VIN:  Input Voltage 1023

exceeded maximum threshold of 250V for Power supply 1.
Strange thing is that power supplies at Nexus are DC (48 Volts), not an AC.
I serach at Cisco Error Message decoder and didn't find anything.
At Nexus 6000 (we have Nexus 5500) System Messages document I found this:
Error Message PFMA-2-PS_HIGH_VIN: Input Voltage [dec] exceeded maximum threshold of 250V for Power supply [dec].
Explanation Input Voltage has exceeded higher threshold of 250V for Power Supply
Recommended Action Please perform a showenvironmentpower'and'showplatforminternalinfo'tocollectmoreinformation.'
But, there is no any useful info from this commands (just first command works).

    Hi,
    1. The connection setup looks fine to me for a single ended measurement - you may want to connect to 68 and 32 for differential measurements.
    3. The example should be ready to take measurements
    4. The Data Acquisition card forces the input range to a valid value - 8V is not a valid range and it will be coerced to 10V - this is expected.
    5. I am not sure why its not letting you cahnge the channel but a good way to test you hardware is by opening up a test panel in Measurement and Automation Explorer - can you try that and let me know?
    Hope this helps!

  • Searching Dock with for Power supply and Audio Out for iPhone 3GS

    Hello,
I am rather new to Apple stuff but I now have an iPhone 3GS which I would like to use with my Yamaha Pianocraft.
The Yamaha has an optional iPod Dock. As far as I know, this would allow me to do things like pause, next track etc. via the Yamaha remote. However, I don't really need this and I would also like to be able to play audio from apps such as internet radio apps (e.g. 977)
So the Yamaha also has an AUX/Audio In connector on the back where I can simply connect my iPhone 3GS. Then I will just hear everything not through the iPhone speakers but through the Yamaha A/V Receiver.
However, this option would require me to have a cable connect at the top (headphone jacket) and at the bottom (connector for power supply), which does not look that good.
So I would like to have an iPhone 3GS dock that provides audio out as well as power supply. I have found three products for this (German Sites because I live in Germany):
    Apple iPhone 4 Dock:
    http://store.apple.com/de/product/MC596ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOQ&mco=MTgxNTkwOTg
    Apple Universal Dock:
    http://store.apple.com/de/product/MB125G/C?fnode=MTY1NDAzOQ&mco=MTA4NDc4NDA
    Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.de/Dockingstation-Apple-iPhone-Audio-Out-wei%C3%9F/dp/B003UP77 HQ/ref=wlit_dpo?ie=UTF8&coliid=I18C98SXGWLNIF&colid=29EKL14S3VRAN
As far as I am aware, the iPhone 4 Dock from Apple cannot be used with the iPhone 3GS. Is that correct? Is there any solution or an "iPhone 3GS Dock" available?
Can these docks also provide the audio from apps via audio out?
I hope you can help me.

Well on the backsite this product has audio out but not power, only the iphone connector.
If I want to use this station in one place only and not for syncing, I will have to buy another iPhone USB cable and another wall to USB adapter (altough I have come at home from other products).
Is there no dock that will not require some special iPhone cable?

  • IMac G5 ALS not booting with new power supply and perfect capacitors

Hey guys. Just got this beauty yesterday for cheap. Came with the box, 2 of 4 Styrofoam inserts, the manual, the power cord, and the keyboard.
I was told it has a brand new power supply. When I plug it in, LED #1 on the motherboard comes to life. pressing the power button does nothing. I have tried everything: blowing out any dust, reseating all connectors, booting without RAM, adding a hard drive (did not have one), removing the optical drive, modem, and BT/ap card. The only sign of life is when I press the internal power button, and the light flickers. This is promising.
I did notice when it is plugged in, there is a high pitched whine coming from where the LED is. I hope this is not causing the problem.
All capacitors are perfect, and not burst or leaking. I had a 1.25ghz eMac with bad caps, so I know what they look like.
I removed the motherboard, and there is no sign of any fried component on either side. It looks like a brand new machine basically.
I was thinking of just getting another good logic board for it, as they are cheap, or ask a friend to recap the board anyway.
Anyone here know what could be wrong with it? I hope I did not just waste money on this. It was relitively cheap though.
    Specs:
iMac G5 Revision B Ambiant Light Sensor model
    1.8ghz G5
    512mb of RAM
    combo drive
    no HD (had 160gb originally)
    airport/bluetooth combo card

    Hey Lam,
The only sign of life is when I press the internal power button, and the light flickers. This is promising.
I did notice when it is plugged in, there is a high pitched whine coming from where the LED is. I hope this is not causing the problem.
I'm with Miriam on this one. That "new" supply sounds bad. Look very carefully inside the power supply (through the little perforations in the case) I'll bet you see caps w/ the same domed tops like you've seen before. That whine is also a symptom of a bad PSU. It's not even strong enough to power the soft start.
I've seen 2 20" and 3 17"ers recently. Replaced caps on 3 of the PSUs and got one to work on a 17" that belonged to a teacher so that went back. Swapped the working PSU from one of the 20s w/ a bad GPU into the one w/ a bad PSU. It's working but in a place where I can keep an eye on it since I don't trust it since the caps don't look good.
    I've done this hack:
    http://gallery.me.com/iamkimc#100033&view=grid&bgcolor=black&sel=12
and can get all the iMacs to work that way. Advantage - cheap, totals 1/3 or the replacement Apple part (used). Con - boxes outside the nice iMac case.
The auto laptop supply loads the Sparkle down too much for the 20" however. I'm working on finding an auto supply that saps less Amps or a simple voltage doubler for the 12V supply to solve that problem.
The ATX hack is pretty simple and only requires switching two 12V leads. Oddly one of the early versions of the 17"ers ran fine without the 20V inverter power. Go figure.

  • Power consumption with dual power supply

    Hi,
I need to know how dual power supply works, I mean, when you have two power supplies in a router if both of them are working at the same time, or if one of them is working while the other one only begin to work when the first one stops.
And if both of them are working at the same time, what is the power consumption, the same as if only one of them was working?
    Thanks

marianares0001 wrote:Hi,I need to know how dual power supply works, I mean, when you have two power supplies in a router if both of them are working at the same time, or if one of them is working while the other one only begin to work when the first one stops. And if both of them are working at the same time, what is the power consumption, the same as if only one of them was working? Thanks
The implementation details can potentially differ per product category but usually the following is applicable:
The product provides configurable power redundancy modes and choosing a mode dictates whether load will be shared across supplies or whether a particular supply will be dedicated for redundancy.
If both (or more) supplies are working at the same time then both share the power load.
The actual power consumption depends on the power required to run the installed components and is the same whether you use power supplies in redundant or power sharing mode.

  • C-Series with single power supply

I have chosen to use a single power supply in a c200-m1 server.
Is there a way to disable the alert in CIMC and amber light fault on front LED if this is its normal operating condition?

    Mike,
To my knowledge there is no way to do this. I am sure in later firmware levels 1 power supply might be seen as normal. As of now, its not. For me 2 power supplies is a rule and adds little cost to the server. Its a cheap price for redundancy.
    My 2 cents
