HP Pavilion Windows 7 hanging on installing updates

Desktop totally hung trying in install update 2 of 6. I let my pc restart for new updates but after downloading updates and system restart my pc is now hung installing updates. I can not get out of this situation. After hard power off and when I press F8 all that comes up is the Startup Menu. I do not see the option to boot in Safe Mode. When I exit the Startup Menu Windows resumes but then seconds later the screen shows installing update 2 of 6 appears again. It seems to be accessing the hard drive as the light continues to flash. After a few minutes the light stops flashing except for occasionally. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Update. Checked my October this morning and it was hanging in Shutdown mode. I waited a couple hours and decided to force a shutdown/power off. It seems to have passed where it had been hanging for 2 days and Windows started successfully. Running a full system virus scan now. So things appear to be improving.

  • Windows 7 hangs during install on HP Pavilion a Media Center 1320n

    Windows XP Media is currently on machine.  I tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.  When the computer rebooted the installation would hang during the complete installation.  I tried several times and the same thing happened.  I reformated the hard drive and tried to install the same OS using a USB flash drive and got the same results.  I reformatted again and tried to install Windows Vista Ultimate Edition and got the same results.  The only OS I can install on this machine is Windows XP.  Can anyone tell me what needs to be done to install Windows 7.
    I upgraded the Bios with version 3.24 before I began the installation.

    Another update in case anyone might be having the same problem..  Found out what the problem is.. But still have not resolved it.. I did another fresh install of Win7. Joined the domain and rebooted.  When it came back up I checked the network and sharing center.  It is showing "Identifying".  Start> Run> firewall.cpl .  It is showing Public network as my current connection. I unplugged my network cable and plugged it back in.  It now shows domain network. Log offs work fine.  After reboot it goes back to doing the same thing.  I tried with both DHCP and a static IP.  Both ways, same problem. So it works fine if the location is set to domain network but not to public (which i guess it automatically puts it in to if it cant identify the network).  Sometimes it will go to work network.  Logoffs take roughly 30 seconds compared to 8 min. on a public network or 2 seconds on a domain network.
    We do have a group policy that disables security center.  It will disable the firewall and other features when it is set to domain network.  But not for the work or public locations.
    The other policy we have in place is for Kerberos.  Kerberos is disabled by default in windows 7 but is needed for our SAP to work.  When we run a packet sniffer on the machine it is showing a lot of back and forth traffic with our DC and the protocol just shows Kerberos.  So my next test is to remove the GPO for Kerberos and see if that makes a difference.
    The funny thing is; I have a Precision 380 sitting right aside of it. Running Windows 7, joined to the same domain, connected to the same switch, in the same OU and it doesnt have a problem..

  • My System Hangs On Installing Update KB3001652

    Hello:
    Did anyone else's computer hang on update KB3001652?  After 4 hours, I hit the power button, only to have it come back to the same update?
    Thanks,
    Rich Locus, Logicwurks, LLC

    Yes.  Several dozen users have reported the issue.  Completely power off.  When you power on choose Restart Normally and wait while any successful updates finish installing and the registry updates (won't take long).  When you are back
    on the desktop start Windows Update.  You will see Important Updates Available.  Click the link to view the updates and uncheck the Visual Studio update.  Finish installing the remaining updates and restart.  When back on the desktop again
    repeat the process with Windows Update (the checkmark next to the VS update returns every time you run WU).  Once no more important updates except the VS update show, you are done.  Wait for Microsoft to fix the issue before installing the VS update.

  • Windows 8.1 not installing updates

    Hi All,
    i have been using Wsus for windows 7, everything runs without a problem, i have added some windows 8.1 clients, updated are downloaded but not installed, on the event viewer, there is an event windows 8.1 :
    Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for installation. To install the updates, an administrator should log on to this computer and Windows will prompt with further instructions.
    My gpo is set
    Auto download and schedule the install
    Everyday : 13:00
    Regards

    the clients are configured for scheduled installations
    The fact that you have created a GPO does not mean that this client is actually
    configured by that GPO, and the log entry, right now, is contradicting your presumption.
    is there a way where we could automate this kind of update, without users interference ?
    I cannot answer that question at this moment; we have insufficient factual information from which to draw any rational conclusion.
    First you need to determine why the update is not being scheduled for installation. Aside from the very real possibility that this client is not actually configured the way you think it is, it's also a fact that some updates cannot be installed
    automatically at all.
    Per my previous questions, it would help if you would identify the specific update(s) involved in this scenario, and then we can proceed with the conversation in an appropriate manner.
    As for the question of the client's configuration, please do the following:
    On the affected client system, record the system time.
    Restart the Windows Update service (or reboot the client).
    Wait 10 minutes.
    Copy the entries from the WindowsUpdate.log starting at the time recorded in Step 1 and paste into the text of a reply in this thread.

    Hi,
    Sorry for the long delay.
    1. KB2993651 is a replacement of the following update KB2982791. See:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2982791
    Thus please first check if KB2982791 is installed. You can uninstall it and again see if KB2993651 could be installed after reboot.
    You can download it to install it manually:
    MS14-045: Description of the security update for kernel-mode drivers: August 27, 2014

    2&3. Update KB2962409 is a rollup update (Jun.) See:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2962409/en-us
    However in rollup update KB2975719 (Aug.) it mentioned to uninstall KB2962409 before installing as a mitigation of Known issue 1. See:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2975719/en-us
    And our first update (KB2993651) is required so please first try to get the KB2993651 installed. Then please first install the following roll up update KB2919355 (Apr.) as it is a requirement of KB2975719 (Aug.) and KB2962409 (Jun.)

  • Windows setup hangs after BIOS update

    Hey all,
    after Bosskiller walked me through setting up my boot sequence I've decided to reinstall windows on my machine.
    I get into the Windows Setup blue screen just fine - but somewhere in the middle of the loading sequence it arbitrarily hangs on me.
    I've tried multiple times and it seems to get farther each time, but now it will not get any farther than "video card".
    Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

  • Windows 7 hangs on install

    Hey guys,
    Ive tried it with 2 different copies of Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit yet I still get the same problem, the installation just freezes and the disk just keeps whirring away as if its struggling to read it. It then stops and goes silent and then the sounds just repeat again but it doesnt do anything. The second stage of installation, I think its expanding files or something - on the first try it just hung at 20%, I tried again and it said there was an error and it could be corrupt, I try again and it just stayed at 0% for about 20 minutes but it sounded as if it wasnt reading it at all.
    I have the most recent version of BootCamp as far as im aware (3.0.1) (313) but there must be something else which is wrong?
    Thanks

  • Impossible to install updates - CS6 - Windows 7

    Hello,
    I can't install updates for adobe design and webpremium CS6. Actual version : CS6 (8.0.1.406)
    I tried this :
    1/ Through the Help menu
    2/ Manual updaters at :
    Adobe - Digital Publishing Suite : For Windows
    Adobe - DPS Desktop Tools : For Windows
    Adobe - InDesign : For Windows
    => No problem to install updates on CS5.5,  but not on CS6
    3/  In safe mode
    What's happened when trying : I get any error message. The Adobe Application Manager window is  empty and when I try to update with the software a window opens with the following message "recherche de mises à jour..." or "checking for updates..." but nothing... I wait and wait...
    Thank you for your help,

    Before you install, close all applications currently running on your system including other Adobe applications, Microsoft Office applications, and browser windows. It is also recommended to temporarily turn off virus protection during the installation process.
    You must have administrative privileges or be able to validate as an administrator.
    Please make sure that the InDesign application is shut down in advance of running the InDesign updater (at least 1 minute recommended).
    After downloading an ".exe" file in Windows, double-click the file to access its contents.
    1. Double-click the .exe file to launch the update.
    2. Click Continue to start the installation.
    3. When the installation has completed, click Finish to close the update file.

    As a debugging step, try printing to the Adobe PDF printer. If that fails, repeat with print-to-file selected. Assuming the print succeeds, open the file in Distiller to complete the creation of the PDF. If you get the PDF, then check to see if AcroTray is properly working as a background task.

  • KB2509007 did not fix problem with Install Updates hanging at 0% during OSD task sequence

    Hi everybody. We recently started building our Build & Capture Task Sequence for our Windows 7 gold image. However, I keep running into the problem where the Install Software Updates step keeps hanging at "downloading updates 1 of 164 (0%).
    This is a known issue that is supposed to be addressed with hotfix KB2509007. I followed the instructions
    here to install the hotfix on my site server. I then added the PATCH= argument to my "Setup windows and ConfigMgr" step in my TS. But still my TS was hanging in the same spot.
    Then I found
    this page, which says that there is another known issue with KB2509007, and the order in which it is installed along side other hotfixes (such as R3). So I followed those instructions, and confirmed that UpdatesHandler.dll is at version 4.00.6487.2188,
    and BOOM, the updates installed and I captured my gold image. This was about a week ago.
    Well, since then, we have had a patch Tuesday, and I am trying to run by Build & Capture TS again to integrate the latest updates into my gold image, but now my TS is hanging at 0% again! I have confirmed that UpdatesHandler.dll is at the correct version,
    so I am unsure what the issue could be now.
    Does anybody have any experience with this issue? Thanks in advance for any help!
    UPDATE: I re-ran my TS, and now the updates are installing. I'm not sure why the behaviour is so inconsistent though...

  • Powershell WUA script hangs on calling Update() and Install()

    I am trying to write a script that will use the WUA API to install certain updates. I have written many Powershell scripts, but this is my first time using COM objects, or interacting with the WUA API. I have used the code from this article:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa387102(v=vs.85).aspx I added in my own code to filter the available updates to a list of updates that I want to install. Everything is working fine, except the script hangs after the calls to both
    Download() and Install().
    When I call Download(), the updates are successfully downloaded, but the script will not continue on. The cursor just sits there blinking. If I monitor WindowsUpdate.log, waiting until the updates are finished downloading, return to the Powershell window,
    and press the <Enter> key, the script continues on. The same happens with my call to Install().
    Here are the sections of code at issue:
    'Downloading updates...'
    $downloader = $UpdateSession.CreateUpdateDownloader()
    $downloader.Updates = $updatesToDownload
    $downloader.Download()
    "Done"
    ----------snip------------
    "Installing Updates..."
    $Installer = $UpdateSession.CreateUpdateInstaller()
    $Installer.Updates = $updatesToInstall
    $results = $Installer.Install()
    "Done"
    In neither case is the word "Done" displayed until after I hit <Enter>. The rest of the code is just as it is on the MSDN page linked above (the Powershell version). Why is this happening?

    I think I have found the solution to my problem.
    I changed this line:
    $downloader.Download()
    to this:
    $dresult = $downloader.Download()
    Now the script runs. Apparently, if I try to ignore the return value of that function it clobbers something. I am used to just ignoring return values when I don't want them. (I know that ignoring return values is not a good practice, but this script is not
    intended to be robust. It will only be used occasionally, and only by me.)
    Thank you for the link, jrv. It got me going in the right direction.

  • Windows Update in Endless Loop of 'Installing updates" and "Undoing changes" on New Windows 8.1 Pro Install

    I am setting new Windows 8.1 Pro computers, and am installing Windows 8.1 Pro to bare drives.  Everything goes fine until Windows Update starts installing updates, and then the computer goes for hours installing updates, and then "We
    could not complete the updates Undoing changes".   It's an endless loop. It seems to be the same 38 updates.  This is a recent phenomenon.  I have not run into this until the last week or two on several new computer installs.
    Again these are brand new installs, so something is clearly wrong with the Windows updates.
    If anyone can please tell me how to avoid this, it would be much appreciated.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    "  This is a recent phenomenon"
    Have you made any modifications to the machines ?
    To resolve this issue ,running the built-in troubleshoot tool is a very good beginning .It will automatically diagnostic the windows update components and check the configurations for us .
     Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Fix problems with Windows Update
    If there are antivirus software installed in these machines, please turn off them temporarily to have a check.
    The command line included in the link as S.Sengupta posted is very useful and convenient to repair the windows corrupted files .We can have a try .
    "sfc /scannow" ,"DISM.EXE /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth "
    We also can check the windowsupdate.log for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
     Run "windowsupdate.log"
    If you have trouble in analyzing the log ,please upload them to the OneDrive and paste the link here .
    Best regards
