Hey @jdudleyjones ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the card reader for your notebook is no longer working after updating to Windows 8.1.
You're probably right that it's a driver issue, however just like you I don't know which card reader you're using either.
Can you please tell me which notebook you have? For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
It would also help if you could tell me the Hardware ID for the card reader. Here's how you find it:
Press Windows Key + X
Click Device Manager
Click View at the top and select Show hidden devices.
You will most likely find the card reader listed under Other devices as an Unknown device.
Right click on it and select Properties.
Select the Details tab.
Change the drop down menu to Hardware Ids.
Note down the first ID in the list (as you'll see they're all pretty much the same regarding the Ven_ and Dev_ numbers which is all I need).
Once you've provided this info I should be able to find the drivers for you.
Look forward to hearing back from you!
Please click the "Kudos, Thumbs Up" at the bottom of this post if you want to say "Thanks" for helping!
Please click "Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Macbook Pro eligible for replacement through Apple program.
Submitted my computer 2 days before program came into effect.
They replaced card or logic board with same original model: AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB
Issued me a refund check for my repair.
Seems to have some noticeable issues, fan running more than usual again, and temporary graphic lines,

    Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately I have yet to call AppleCare because I am on a project for 3 weeks and cannot be without my laptop during that period....
Until that time I am trying to figure out what I can do to protect the Palm Rest/Mouse Pad area of my Macbook once they either fix it or give me a new one. Has anyone had any experience with either of these products that can provide some input as to whether they are good or bad?

  • Problem after updating to windows 10

My laptop is HP Envy m6 1213 tx. Recently I have updated it to Windows 10. After updating to windows 10 my laptop slowed down. Even opening File explorer is also very slow. Not only File explorer every process and every application became slow.  Please suggest a solution to my problem

Purple-Gecko...all that I can say is, "Boom!!!"  You are THE man/woman, whichever the case may be.
The "netsh winsock reset" command worked like a charm for my machine (running Windows XP SP3).  I have had two weeks of frustration with this issue and finally found your post which got me back online with the iTunes store.  My problem accessing the iTunes store began once I downloaded and installed iTunes 10.5 in preparation to upgrade to OS5.  Once 10.5 was installed, I could open iTunes and access everything except the store (which prevented any of my devices from being able to sync). I followed all of the suggestions that I could find in Apple Support and the suggestions that I was emailed from Apple's support techs.  I unistalled all Apple software and reinstalled iTunes multiple times, and still could not access the store.
Your suggestion is the only "cure" that I have found.
I thank you, my iPod thanks you, and my iPhone 4 thanks you for taking the time to post this fix.

  • Graphic card problems after last flash player update

    Hi,
since the last Adobe Flash Player my computer repeatedly either reboots itself, turns the screen black or crashes completely, giving a blue screen error message saying there is a problem with the ati2dvag.dll graphics driver, causing the graphic card to be in an infinite loop. Neither updating the graphics drivers nor deactivating the hardware acceleration solves the problem. Since we have the same problem on a second computer with identical hardware, I suppose it must be a software problem.
I´m using a Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2,66 GHz with 2 GB RAM. The graphic card is a ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. Operating system is Windows XP SP3
Is this a familiar problem and can anybody suggest any solution?
    Thx

Hi, I found the file but I'm still not sure what really happend.
First I followed a brodys advices (thanks!). Different was, that the flash player download looked really like the original from Adobe. It simply appeared as an update request as som many others as well. What I want to say is that I didn't go to a web site and downloaded it. In fact I think it was the original and everything was a coincidence.
The Mac OS version I run on the MacBook is 10.7.4! Nevertheless I installed the flashback trojan patch. But nothing happend.
With the remaining 300 Mb of diskspace I could operate at least a little.
There are three users on this macbook.
I logged in each of the user and found that in my daugther uses 160 GB. I found a file MOV_6007.AVI with a size of 148GB sitting in the recovered picture structure of the iphoto library.
My daugther told me that she was downloading movies from a dropbox folder and then she imported them into iphoto. She did it using the finder, selecting them and dropped them onto the iphoto icon in the dock.
Whatever happend later I have no idea. The Macbook was running during the night. The next morning I used it to read news and at this time I accepted the adobe flash upgrade.
In the system log files I found an entry that showed I had about 8GB of disk space free at this time. It should have been about 160GB. So somehow this file grew already that much during the night.
And it obviously grew further until I got the disk full message minutes later.
It is scary! So what I did now is delete the file and it seems the Macbook is ok again.
I wanted to tell this long story as it is probably something new and somebody else had a similar issue already.

  • CCC and AMD graphics card failed after updating driver

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 6c-32eg laptop.
I recently tried to update my GPU driver, as this was required to run a particular program (oclHashcat, if you're interested). I downloaded the installer from here, and ran it. It appeared to run fine, but after the required restart, the screen resolution was set to 800x600, instead of the usual 1366x768. I then recieved an error message saying something along the lines of "Your AMD driver could not be installed as you do not have the required hardware". In Device Manager the GPU had something like "windows has stopped usinig this device as it reported an error".
If I try to open CCC, the program runs for several minutes, with a relatively high CPU usage shown in Task Manager, and then the message " Catalyst Control Center: Host Application has stopped working".
I have now tried various different methods of fixing this problem, none of which have worked. Attempting to download a driver from the AMD website didn't work, as the website said the driver was not appropriate for a computer with switchable graphics.
My laptop does not appear to be using the AMD GPU, as trying to run any games as a test causes them to run slowly and with minimal resolution.
My laptop has dual (switchable, from CCC) graphics:
-An AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT card, with a driver version 8.882.2.3000, and date 30/09/2011.
-And Intel HD Graphics Family, with, apparently, the same driver version and date as above. I am unable to find out exactly what kind of Intel GPU it is.
I also tried to update the Intel graphics driver, to see if this would fix the problem at all, but it made it worse: the screen became very red, and low resolution. I fixed this by reverting to a system restore point made just before. Sadly, I did not think to do this before originally updating drivers.
My question, then, is: how to I regain full usage of both graphics cards?

    Hi,
There may be a 3rd party option you could try for a more updated set of gpu drivers, however I'd first suggest getting your system back to a state where the switchable graphics function correctly.
    Try the System Restore first.
If that doesn't work, the AMD driver package ( containing both gpu drivers ) you require can be downloaded from HP on the following link.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55092.exe
Regarding being able to find a more updated set of drivers, a lot of people with your type of switchable graphics have had success with the offerings on the following 3rd party website - I would strongly recommend reading the Manual first to get an understanding of how this works and why driver signing enforcement will need to be disabled in order to load these drivers.

  • Graphics card issues after updates.

I've recently started experimenting with the 3D capabilities of Ps CS6 so was excited for the recent update. Frustratingly this update has removed all the functionality of 3D because of the vRAM of my graphics card (256mb). I'm in no posistion to replace my laptop and am gutted that all the 3D tools are unavailable having used them perfectly well days before. Is there any way to download a version of CS6 previous to the update which still allows me to work with the 3D functionality?!

I also think it is a bit strange that far more powerful 3d painting and modeling applications work without a hitch on 256mb vram (or even 128mb) systems, and Photoshop's 3d functionality misbehaves with less than 512mb vram. I understand that's what you get when you slap 3d on top of a 2d application that never was intended to perform well in 3d. Corners have to be cut somewhere.
On the other hand, Photoshop's 3d painting is quite limited and slow as it stands, so it is probably a better idea to use a different application that is more optimized for this task. IamRoss, try 3dCoat, Cinema4D (BodyPaint) or zBrush instead. Or for free: Blender, which is also a great 3d tool, and supports 3d painting (though not neary as powerful as the others - they're working on improving it).

  • Display adapter problems after updating to Windows 10

    Hello,
recently I updated to Windows 10 and I have an issue with my graphics card. In BIOS I have enabled the "Fixed Mode" that will allow me to have the graphics card always on. For some strange reason I cannot switch to my AMD Radeon HD 6700M gpu. Please help ! Thank you,

    Hi,
How about your network problem recently? if problem persists, you can follow the steps below to collect the scenario tracing and the WLAN logs.
    1) Enable RAS Tracing on the client.
    Over an Administrative command prompt.
C:\> netsh ras set tracing * enabled
    2) On the client enable the following log as well:
    Over an Administrative command prompt.
    C:\> netsh trace start scenario=netconnection capture=yes tracefile=c:\net.etl
    3) Now, turn off Wireless adapter on the client and Turn it back ON for making it to authenticate. Once it fails to connect to the Wireless network, proceed to the next step.
    4) Disable RAS Tracing on the client.
    Over an Administrative command prompt.
C:\> netsh ras set tracing * disabled
    5) On the client disable the following log as well:
    Over an Administrative command prompt.
    C:\> netsh trace stop
    6) Please provide the following files:
    From the Client:
    a) ZIP folder of C:\Windows\Tracing
    b) C:\Net.etl and C:\Net.cab

  • Desktop H430 problems after update to Windows 8.1

    Desktop LENOVO IdeaCentre H430 VDH3UGE Intel Core i3-3220 3,30 GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, AMD HD7570, Win8
After updating Windows 8 to 8.1. I have problems with software on my computer including Mozilla Browser.
Although the software installed in Windows 8, still run in update 8.1, many give problems: Sluggish, long (to very long) response time, hanging and such like. Even Mozilla Firefox worked in 8, but gave problems in 8.1, so I switched to Nightly.
Programs like Magix MusicMaker 2013 run really bad.
So too Arcsoft MediaImpression for Kodak
And in general there is a sluggish/long/hanging response.
I looked at Lenovo driver website to see if I needed updates and tried the first couple:
Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) – Desktop = Realtek Audio Driver
    h1100913.exe  !!!!
But I must have screwed up with this download because I lost sound!!!!
Or I screwed up with BIOS download???
Flash BIOS update - Flash from Operating System version for H430 - Version ECJY24AUS
But when I got to the Core-Chipsatz Drivers I really got confused!!!
There were two options and I had no idea if I needed one, and which one, or both:
    Intel Me Driver h1100732.exe Windows 8.1 64-bit
    Intel chipset Driver h1100731.exe  Windows 8.1 64-bit
Too complicated for me, I should have stayed away from this, have no idea which is right - or even if I needed them really. It was just because the computer worked so bad!
    Can anybody help, advise

I no longer believe it is avast antivirus causing the problem. I think Microsoft have screwed up again. Both Spybot and Avast were no longer compatible, and had to be updated to a new version - luckily for both of these there was a new version available. For some of my other software there is not - although they all functioned on W8 !! additionally I get other strange "happenings" like a window saying there is no CD inserted when there is no CD for the program (I read somewhere of someone also mentioning this) and other strange/weird little happenings which are not supposed to happen - and for no apparent reason!
This lenovo H430 is a really bad computer - now with 8.1 it is even worse !

  • Lenovo Y570 problems after updating to Windows 10 from Windows 7

Hi everyone, I updated my operating system to Window 10 from Windows 7 four days ago and I am having a ton of problems. I lost a lot of my Lenovo interface options as well...  One of the worst and most annoying problems is that randomly, for half a second, the computer stops and thinks which freezes up my typing. If I am writing something, when it wants to freeze it prevents me from typing that letter. It basically overrides my keyboard well it does that freezing for half a second. Also, when I have a drop down menu it will close when this happens or when I right click, the menu will disappear when this "glitch" happens. One of the biggest clues I found is under the task manager. In the Processes tab, when this "glitch" happens "Windows Problem Reporting" pops up for a half second. I am not sure if that is causing this problem or if something goes wrong and "Windows Problem Reporting" pops up because of something else? Is there a way to check and see what these "Windows Problem Reporting" are? My other problems are that my fan control does not work anymore. I had the option to control the speed and the sound of my fan before updating to Windows 10. Would Lenovo or Windows 10 ever going to sent a drive to fix this problem? Also, I can not control my GPU switch anymore. Before the update I could change my GPU from Intel HD card to Geforce 555M. Now I have no idea what GPU I am using and how to go back and forth. Is there a fix for this? Since all these problems occurred with the Windows 10 update, would it be better for me to go back to Windows 7 and wait to see if Lenovo and Windows ever going to create drives for Lenovo Y570? Is it advisable to switch back W7 and switch back to W10 later?

  • Problems with the graphic card driver after update?

First my brand new Macbooks main board had to be replaced since I couln`t charge the battery. After 3 weeks on service it`s back. Everything is fine until I update the drivers. After the restart the screen displays totaly wrong colors. Take a look below. What could be the problem, and can I solve it?

Some user post that when they reset the pram and pmu and change the resolution screen to its native (biggest) resolution, it will solve the problem.

after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

  • Graphic Card Problems

I have recently built a new system with the specs below.
I have been having a problem with the graphics card for this system.  Initially I installed an "Inno3D GT220 1GB DDR2 DVI VGA HDMI Out PCI-E Graphics Card" which after about a week started displaying a fault. (firstly graphical corruption which led onto BSOD.)  I RMA'd it and got a identical replacement but this also started to go with a fault, (virtually the same problem.)  I have now received another replacement though this time a "PNY GT 220 1GB DDR2 DVI VGA HDMI Out PCI-E Graphics Card".  Although this card is not showing any serious fault yet I am getting some graphical corruption.
To test the system I placed my 'old' PCIe 256MB 7300gt card into the Mobo and do not seem to have any problems.
    My question is this:
Is there possibly some sort of conflict with the GT220 chipset and this Mobo?  The 7300GT has no conflict?
The BIOS settings are the default settings and no OC. Is there a BIOS setting(s) that I need to alter?
According to the tech guys at Inno3D there should be no issues with the card.
I find it extremely unlikely that three graphics cards from two different manufacturers can end up with similar problems.  It seems that the culprit could be the mobo/cpu which according to MSI are compatible.  When the problem first appeared I performed extensive CPU and memory tests which came back as 'pass' so I do not think it is a performance problem.

    Hi all.
I have a new motherboard (BIOS v1.5) now but I am still getting the corruption.  This motherboard is allowing me to unlock the extra cores in my processor whereas the previous board wouldn't, even with the BIOS upgrade to V1.4.  (possible sign that it wasn't working right.)
MSI have asked me to install V1.62 Bios.  What do you think?
Graphics card working fine with Afterburner, although no alterations to the settings.

He warn me that the same problem will happen again soon since it's sign that my VGA card will dead. After he resoldered, my laptop can work normally for 3 months. Now, after 3 months, my laptop  can't start again just like before. The technician said it because of solder connection of my VGA card again.

  • Mail (4.6) in OS10.6.8 shows several photo attachments with discoloration, distortion (jagged lines, splotches of color, etc.). Could it be a graphics card problem?

My mother-in-law's MacBook Pro 13 (m2009) Mail (4.6) with OS 10.6.8 shows several
photo attachments with discoloration, distortion (jagged lines, splotches of color, etc.).
Could it be a graphics card problem?
Or a bad unpacking of attachments over poor WiFi/Internet?
If anyone has an idea, I'd appreciate your help.
    Thanks from Japan!
    Dan

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The better your description, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.
