HP Pavillion DV4 1123us power adapter problem

Hi,
After using the HP Pavillion DV4 1123us for two years suddenly I noticed that the power adapter is not supplying power to the computer and it is making some not too loud repeatitive sound. I replaced the power adapter with HP 90W Smart Power Adapter which worked fine for a few weeks and then I noticed whenever I connect this to the wall outlet it makes some repeatitive chirping sound and this is also not suppying power to the computer anymore. It behaves like this even when it is not connected to the laptop which indicates that there is some problem with the adapter and not with the internal powers supply of the laptop. It is so surprising that the replacement power adapter stopped working so early.
In my home all the other laptops are working just fine and and found all of them are two pin  - only these two are three pin. Not sure if this has gota anything to do with this fault.
Any help on this matter will be highly appreciated.

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • Power adapter problems

I just got a new MacBook the day before yesterday and am very pleased with it so far apart from the design of the power adapter. It is an "L" style Magsafe connector. When I attach it with the wire coming forward I am unable to access the ports near it because they are covered by the solid part of the connector ! It means I have to take the wire round the back of the computer and then round the side in front of the DVD drive ! What kind of design is that ? In addition the power adapter stopped working just now and it's only two days old ! A restart fixed the problem but I'm unhappy about it.

Hopefully the MacBook will get redesigned, or the MagSafe's design will get tweaked a bit more so it's a bit more versatile.
This does sound like a bit of an inconvenience for you

Fed up with charging my zen vision M 60gb through my pc's usb, I purchased a Creative uni'versal power adaptor. I've selected the correct plug for the UK but it doesn't seem to charge my zen. The blue power light comes on but that's all. No display or charging symbol like you normally get. Anyone have any experienece of these adapters? Thanks

Bring along with you the Sync Adapter, just in case.

  • WRT160N, power adapter problem

I have a WRT160N wireless router. However, the power adapter is dead. The original one has a 100~240 0.5A input and 12V/0.5A output.
I found a similar  one with a input 110~127V 0.25A and a 12V/0.750A output. I tested it for one day.  It works just as  fine just as the original one. I am wondering whether I can just replace the original one with the one I have.
    Thanks for your help.

Is this a new adapter you have discovered doesn't work?
I found you need to plug it into the mains first, then the router.

  • Power adapter problem?

Hi, I just bought a new adapter for my iBook G4 and now it doesn't charge the battery all the way anymore.
My old power adapter ALWAYS charged the battery all the way up to 96%-100% (the reason I got a new adapter is because my old one was smoking and burning). Now my battery only charges to about 50% with the new adapter -- and this only happened AFTER I got the new one.
I was wondering: is there some kind of relationship between adapters and batteries? Because my battery always charged perfectly with the original adapter, and now it doesn't with the new one.

There is. Both must speak to the computer's Power Management Unit. Sounds like the excess of current damaged the power management's chip.

    Good luck getting it repaired.

  • URGENT! US/UK power adapter problem!!!!!!!

    Hello
I got my iPad from new York in April last year, however it was exported to the UK. I have been using the power adapter which came with the American iPad but with a UK head on the top. It has now come to my attention that the US does not have 230 volt mains supply like the UK has, but instead America has 110 volts. This means that if there is a conventional transformer in the power supply, it will be made for the US power supply, meaning it will output like 18 volts in the US, however in the UK, the same input to output voltage ratio will be the same, meaning that whatever the US output voltage is, in the UK it will output double that, so in this example in the US it may output 18 volts for instance, but the same transformer plugged into the uk supply with output 36 volts. I am worried I have damaged my iPad by doing this, but I don't know how I can tell. Or maybe the transformer will have some electronics in to automatically adjust to the different power supply, I'm not entirely sure.
I sometimes use my real UK purchased UK power adapter to charge my iPad, however I've never noticed any difference (but I'm not entirely sure if it's the high wattage adapter, it seems to charge the iPad.)
Ok, long message but please let me know what to do!!!!!!

If all you want is the US version of the power head, I do not see that shown in the US Apple store so I doubt that they're available separately.  All I can see is a kit which includes 6 different head styles (their "World Travel Adapter Kit").
If you're needing this for only a short visit over here, you're probably better off just finding a standard US/UK mains adapter (a connector only, i.e. no need to adapt the line voltage since your charger does that for you).
If you're re-locating over here, then you may have to resort to buying complete new power adapters (Apple or 3rd party).

  • Question about Pavillion DV4 1123us

Hi, I hope some one can answer this question for me here.
I wanna know if it is possible to install a graphics card into this model or if i can upgrade the graphics card in it. I've searched all over the internet and found out that it is possible to change out a graphics card on a laptop but the process can be very difficult and very expensive if even possible on your model. I tried doing some searches with google but found no luck since the results were vague. I'm hoping that I can upgrade this laptops graphics card but I cant find any info on if it is even possible with this model. When i brought this model I just brought it for school but now that my desktop has died it has become my primary computer. I really want to play some of the games I have and I dont want to buy another computer.

Upon further investigation, I've found that the optical drive is a
Mat**bleep**a dvd-ram uj-851s ata device. Dunno if this makes searching
for a manual easier. I know it hasn't helped me.
Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

  • Mid-2009 13" MBP says "not charging" but seems to be slowly charging with power adapter

I have a mid-2009 13" Macbook Pro with 8GB RAM.  I have the odd situation of the power indicator on top right of screen showing that the power adapter is plugged in, but the percentage indicator stating that the laptop is "not charging."  I have been working on the computer for several hours and the laptop has only charged to about 27 percent according to the battery health application that is runningI have.  It says the battery has gone through 281 cycles and is 2.4 years old.  It suggests the battery should still charge to 92 percent of its potential.  The battery is warm as is the power adapter cube, so something is happening.  The little light on the end of the power cord is green but only two of the little green dots light up on the left edge of the computer.
Any ideas if this is a battery, laptop, or power adapter problem?  Unfortunately, I don't have a second power adapter to test that idea.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Recalling another similar thread, I can recommend you thoroughly clean the male and female MagSafe connectors. The gold pins and pads must be shiny bright and totally debris free. Use a Q-Tip moistened with alcohol, disconnect the power brick beforehand. Also, make sure the rubberized area around the connector in the Mac, where the magnet lies and the steel ring around the cable connector nestles, is completely free of anything that can prevent the two from fully mating and ensuring a tight grip. Here's more info, look at the pics on #7: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713  (click on the triangles to have them drop and show the pictures)

  • Power adapter male pin BROKEN

My son called today with power adapter problems...took awhile for me to figure it out, but the tip of the adapter pin has apparently broken off inside the computers female power port. (the pin is flush with the metal collar while it protrudes about 1/8" on mine) I think it must have broken at the insulation.
If he's very careful, he says he can get the pin in and the battery still apparently charges but the light is always green.
How can he get the broken piece out of the computer and is there a replacement part for just the power jack??

Getting the stuck pin tip out of the computer is tricky. I have heard of people putting a drop of superglue on a thin object (like a nail) and inserting it into the hole, hoping to glue the nail to the pin without getting it on anything else.
I once removed a pintip that was loose in the jack by making a fine wire into a soldering iron tip, then quickly touching the pintip with a glob of solder then turning off the heat. It stuck and I pulled it out. I just didn't have any glue handy.
If you cannot get the tip out, you are likely looking at replacing the DC input board. Also, I have not seen replacement power plugs, so if you cannot fabricate from used adapters, you probably have to get a new power adapter.

  • Power Adapter connection

For no apparent reason, the power adapter for my new MBA 11" sometimes won't connect or charge -- no green and no amber -- despite reattaching it and jiggling it.  Then without explanation it will later connect and start charging.
Is this a power adapter problem or some anomaly with the MBA itself?

Try reseting the SMC, here is a link explaining how to.

  • Broken power adapter.

okay, well i have a serious problem..but i dont wanna have to bring it in and get the computer worked on, my a/c power adapter had 2 parts, the headphone type jack, and the shield around it. the headphone type jack broke off inside of the slot to charge it, and not the whole thing, like..not long enough piece to where i can just pull it out. theres about a 1/8 an inch piece stuck inside of it. and i dont know exactly what to do, has anyone else had this problem and might be able to help? and if i brought it into apple..how much would it cost me to fix it?

The power adapter problem has been reported on this board before. Various Apple resellers charge different amounts. Check with your store, also check if it is under warranty to see if they will fix it under warranty. This is a user to user board.
You might find one of these vendors cost less than Apple to repair your machine:

  • Minor Problem with MagSafe Power Adapter

I got my MBP almost a year ago now (partially why I'm asking the question) and I've noticed that my power adapter doesn't always show the charge light. Sometimes it is not on at all, and sometimes it is less bright in color (both green and amber).
If I remove it and put it back it usually corrects itself.
It if fully functional; even if the light is completely out and plugged in it still shows as charging.
So, is this normal? I never remember having this sort of problem with my PB G4.

I would think the led light on my adapter cable was broken, but I discovered it works fine on a co-workers MBP. His adapter, which we know works, does NOT work (ie. the led does not come on) when attached to my computer. This indicate to me that the problem, whatever it is, can sometimes be with the computer and not the adapter.
I would be curious if others with apparently dead leds have tried their chargers on other MBPs.
Here's the long version of my story:
My 5W MagSafe completely fried after only 9 months.
The new adapter was fine for several days until this morning.
My "low battery" warning popped up, so so I plugged it in to recharge and immediately noticed the little led on the charger cord did not come on.
I found it hard to believe that I had another bad adapter, so before making the trip back to the store, I went into the studio where there are some other MBP users.
I plugged my adapter into another laptop and the led came on. It appeared to function completely normally. I tried MagSafe adapters from two other MBPs, but the led did not come on on either of them while attached to my computer.
This made me think there was some sort of problem with the connector on the computer itself. Just visually, it appears to be clean and corrosion free.
The next obvious step, it seemed, would have been to try swapping batteries with the other laptops, but mine is a 17" and everyone else here has 15"... and so we have different battery sizes.
One of the people here at the studio had a little utility called "Coconut Battery", that reports information about the battery health. When I ran it on my laptop, I got what I thought were rather surprising results.
It showed the usual things like current charge (21%), battery capacity and so on. But under "Additional Info" it said "Charger connected: Yes" and "Battery is charging: No".
I figured this narrowed it down to a problem with the battery. But as I was showing these results to my co-worker, the "Current Battery Charge" changed from 21 to 22%. Huh? We left it plugged in and it continued to show a steady climb in the charge, as if it is working normally. Except there is no led light, and the software still says it is not charging. Odd.
I then noticed that the built-in battery level indicator on the status bar was also showing the same increases. The led lights on the back of the battery are indicating an increase as well.
Just out of curiosity, I ran a second battery health analyzer program and again got these conflicting results. This one reported the same battery charge and capacity and so on as the previous one. It also recognized that the laptop was running off of AC power, that there was a battery, but it said "Not Chargeable."
So now I am going to let it continue until I have a full charge and then see if the computer will run as usual from the battery.
I don't think the store here is going to give me another adapter since this one appears to work just fine on the other computers.
Any thoughts on why the led would work on other laptops but not mine?
Why the battery health monitors report that the battery is being charged, but also that it is "not chargeable"?
