HP Pavillion dv6446 caps/num lock lights won't light

i had my laptop screen replaced and when i got it back the caps lock/num lock lights wern't working. i took it back to the guy who fixed it and he told me it he couldn't replace the LED's because they needed to be replaced and he didn't know how to replace LED's mounted to the motherboard. i found it a bit funny that both LED's blew at the exact same time, especially since i had several other problems that appeared after he replaced the screen (those problems have since been fixed by myself). is there some controller that has been messed with that would cause the LED's to not light up?

I am facing the same problem with my dv6500 and never had a so big issue as yours. I believe leds are ok (when I press "fn" + num lock) this led lights up. I would really appreciate a help from HP in this issue.

  • CAPS & Num Lock Lights

    Hi,
It is the second time that this happens to me; I switched on my MacBook, and the number lock light and CAPS light turn on too. By keeping them on, they work as if they were off. While if i turned them off, they work as if they were on.
To resolve the problem i restart my mac, and everything goes back to normal..
Does anyone have the same problem or a solution to this?
    Thank you all!
    Regards
    Val

Well...I have to say that if it wasn't happening to my MacBook RIGHT NOW, I wouldn't belive you. As I'm typing now, BOTH caps lock and num lock lights ARE ON! If I hit the shift key, I do get caps.
I JUST SHUT OFF THE CAPS LOCK LIGHT AND NOW ALL I GET ARE CAPS...EVEN WHEN I PRESS THE SHIFT KEY AS I"M DOING NOW.
123456789 Both lights are on as I type now, but when I shut off the num lock, all I could get on the keyboard were the number pad numbers as I typed at the beginning of this sentence.
With both lights off, again, all I get are the keypad numbers...no letters.
The MacBook was working fine earlier today. I just booted it up and it started with this weird behavior. I hope rebooting fixes it.

  • HP Laptop. Blank screen and caps and num lock lights flashing.

    Hi,
I hope you can help me.
My laptop is the HP Pavilion DV6-1216sa, bought new in September 2009. When I turn it on, I get a blank screen, the fan is working and the wifi, volume and mute lights light up. The caps lock and num lock lights flash together, once everyone 3 or 4 seconds. Normally when this happens (it has happened throughout the life of the laptop), I turn it off and turn it back on, and it works again. However this time, the problem persists. I've tried most combinations to get the bios screen up and I've tried getting it to another screen via hdmi and VGA, but no signal received. I have tried everything recommended by the HP support website. I have checked the battery, ram, and hard drive.
    Best regards,
    Jay

The best cheapest fix is if you can remove the motherboard your self and send it to a refabricator who will check all the chips on the motherboard and reball the bad ones. Cost is about $60-120, closer to the bottom if you can ship them just the board but if necessary they will take the whole laptop and remove the board for you.

  • DV4 flashing caps lock and num lock lights

My laptop, an HP Pavilion DV4-2040US, has stopped booting up recently. The day before this problem come about I was using the laptop perfectly fine. I then went one day without using. When I turn on the laptop it booted up but nothing showed up on the screen. Then the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK lights started to blink on and off.
I did some researching about the blinking lights and what they mean but I don't think mine is listed on there. It says the pattern will repeat a couple of times then shut off, but mine doesn't. The pattern is the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK both blink once every 3 seconds (about) and keeps blinking every 3 seconds forever. The only time they stop blinking is when I shut I down by holding the power button on the laptop.
I've tried disconnecting everything and holding for 15 seconds and even tried holding it for 30 seconds and that still didn't fix the problem. I called HP support and the guy who I talked to told me it sounded like a motherboard issue, but he wasn't sure exactly and told me to ask here for help.
If it matters, I can hear the fan turn on for about 2 seconds then stop. Also all the touch sensitive buttons light up too$

Please, someone, anyone help me. I am having this exact same problem as we speak It happened after i put the laptop to sleep overnight. The LEDs for capslock and numlock blink consistently but slowly-approximatelt 2-3 seconds. When started up, i hear the fan come on for maybe a second or two and then comes off.I've tried all the mentioned solutions - i removed the battery for a while and put it back in-i tried the four arrows-i tried started up with AC adapted but without battery - and still no fix. What i am worried about is the documents and files on the laptop. Are they recoverable? Please help me on this someone. Please. Thank You.

When going to start the computer after hitting the power button the all the lights come on on the volume bar, the fan runs and then the caps light and the num lock light start blinking. I can tell if there is a specific number of blinks in a sequence or if it is just one blink repeatedly.  This computer is less than 2 yrs old. Please help

I have already tried all the powering down options and nothing is helping. I really need this thing!

  • Blinking caps and num lock lights

Opened up the lid on sleeping laptop and had nothing but a blank screen and blinking caps and num lock lights. I finally got vista restarted after turning it off and on a couple of times. Everything seems to be working, however the caps and num lock lights are still blinking every 2 seconds. Any thoughts on what is causing this?

    Hello,
The blinking caps and numlock are a diagnostic feature of the Dv7 Notebook ( and others ). Depending on the combination it can be a number of different symptoms. They can be as minor as the battery having an insuficient charge or as serious as a CPU failure. I would recommend updating the ROM BIOS on your unit to ensure you have the latest fixes.- Make sure you have the latest one for your model - Here is a link to a document on the Blink Codes.

  • Flashing CAPS & NUM Lock lighs

    Hi,
This happened with me around 2 weeks ago. I was using my friend's HP Pavillion DV6-1211AX at night and shut it down properly. Next morning it refused to start up!
All that it does is the CAPS and NUM lock lights keep blinking (one blink) and the CPU fan keep on rotating. There are no beeps or any flickering on the screen.
I have checked out this link [ Blank Screen LED Error Codes ] and was informed that my processor might be faulty.
The present processor is an AMD Turion RM-75 and I tried out another functional processor supported by my motherboard, mentioned in the HP service manual, AMD Turion Ultra RM-82, but it too resulted in the same error.
I also tried to dead flash the BIOS but it just wouldn't read pen drives.
I am really in a soup as my friend is now insisting that I get him a new laptop. I would appreciate any kind of help / suggestion / advice in this regard.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello sohrabgandhi,
If you’re getting the error that the cpu has failed it could be the board that is bad.
You might want to take the laptop somewhere and see if they can find the bad spot on the board.
I don’t think that it is anything that you did to make the board go bad.

  • 12/27/07 update and Caps/Num Lock

I'm not positive that the update came out today, but it's when I found it and downloaded it. Upon the restart, my Num Lock light was on and so was Caps Lock. I thought it was odd, but I turned them off and didn't think about it.
Gee. Big surprise. The update managed to reverse the functions of these two buttons. If they turned OFF, i.e., the lights are OFF ... then the lock function is on. So if the caps lock light is OFF, caps lock is ON. Same thing for Num Lock.
Now, I like the little green lights myself, but I'm afraid to find out what else is reversed and screwed up.
I so regret paying for a family license pack. Particularly since I have not upgraded the other computers in the house after all the troubles I've had with Leopard.
    sigh

and you did the recent security update, too?
    EDIT:
Well, after the third restart, the issue seems to have resolved. Bizarre.

  • Num lock light keeps flashing

    Hi,
I have Lenovo 560 and since few days I am observing a strange problem.. The num lock on keypad keeps toggling itself and the num lock light keeps flashing.. ?i dnt know whats the problem is.. any body faced similar problem?
    please help.
    Thanks,
    Rajan

I don't think it is serious enough to return it. I have problems with my num lock and caps lock keys also, but I think it is a problem with the PMU firmware. Quite a few people are having an issue, so I don't think it is a hardware problem.
There are also people having other problems related to the PMU, such as the coloured lines at startup. I suspect we will see a firmware update at some point that can hopefully fix it.
My advice would be try resetting your PRAM with command-option-p-r at startup (until you hear the second chime). Or resetting the PMU by turning off the 'book. disconnecting power and taking battery out, then pressing power button for 5 seconds. Then turn it all back on again and it should be ok.
Stay away from 10.4.7 too, it's just trouble.

  • HP Pavilion DV7-1428ca _ CAPS + NUM LOCK Continually Blinks + Will not Start up Black Screen

Would appreciate any suggestions on the issue I am encountering.
I have an HP Pavilion DV7-1428ca that was left powered on, so it went into Safe mode (screen goes blank). Once I came back to my Laptop hitting any key would take out of of the Safe mode however this time it did not. It remained with black screen irregardless of buttons pressed.
Had booted and can hear the fan and hdd go for the 2secs then it stops to a Black Screen with the "CAPS + NUM LOCK" Continually Blinking. Tried to Hard Boot several times but the same thing re-occurs.
It does not seem to be blinking in a series a code, just a steady blink (every sec) for both the CAPS + NUM Lock for as long as I leave it on. HP Site provides a chart from 1-6 series of blink codes which does not seem to apply to me.
Being out of Warranty I am hesitant in bringing it to a local repair shop without trying any alternate trouble shooting first.
    Thanks

    Hi,
First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.  Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out ) and see if the notebook will start.

  • Bricked my touchsmart -tx2 1025dx. Cap/Num lock LEDs blinking once.

Bricked my touchsmart-tx2 1025dx.  Cap/Num Lock LEDs blinking once, so I replaced the processor but the LEDs are still giving me a single blink (processor issue).  Any advice?

    Hey NikosK,
The one-blink code is indicating an issue related to CPU and/or system board (bent pins, etc.). It's possible that the system board needs to be replaced.
Here's a table of all of the LED codes:

Do you know what caused this issue in the first place, before replacing the processor?

  • HP Pavilion tx2500 - Caps Lock and Num Lock lights blink once

I turn on my HP Pavilion tx2500 and I hear the fan spinning but nothing else happens.  The lights next to the Caps Lock and above the Num Lock keys blink (a repeating single blink).  According to some HP technical support documents I found online, the repeating single blink indicates a CPU problem.  My laptop is out of warranty and the $400 to send it to HP to have it fixed is practically the same price I paid for the laptop 2 years ago.
Do the blinking lights mean the CPU is fried?  And is there anything I can do to fix the laptop?
    Thanks,
    -Jeff

I have the same problem. I called HP they said the same thing. But, I am BIOS engineer myself and has worked with lot of motherboards, So I felt there is no point in sending a 399$ to find what happend and on top of that fixing charges.
I noticed the problem started when I installed Win 7 Ultimate edition to the board and let tbe board Idle for a long time and it went into sleep mode and when I hit the button for resume it would not resume, the blinking started.
I have seen the same thing happend to my friend laptop, luckily for him it recovered and he removed the Sleep Option. SO his laptop is shutdown or running in full power.
I thought this is not coincidence, there is defenitely a bug in HW or SW that is causing it. remove battery. I replaced the memory and removed the cmos battery and left for a long time (short the battery terminals to discharge quickly). Then I rebooted the machine, Luckuly for me it went to windows, I tht of replacing the BIOS firmware, bcos they ahve some latest on by that time I had a visitor and I was talking to him the system went into sleep mode and will never recover. The system started blinking. I dont see this as a CPU problem.
I still evaluating this. I will try to post my findings. I have aclip to read the BIOS chip but everytime i get different read. SO I am planning to remove the BIOS chip and put a socket so that I can play with the BIOS.
