HP pavillion Dv6700 laptop no sound

Okay, so this just started happening yesterday. My sound just died. My speakers aren't detected. I've tried alot of things. Chatted with HP reps. And just no luck. I really do not want to send it in to be repaired for the price of 500$.
I can't seem to fix this problem.
Would it be possible to use a usb headset to hear audio ? As my mic still functions and people can hear me on skype.
Would a usb headset work for audio ? Or is the sound card still going to be affected by the laptops sound card.
Wouldn't a usb headset have it's own sound card.
Also if anyone has a solution for this problem.. Please help.

You should have a regular headset port on the front of your laptop. Mine came with a set of earbuds which plug into it.That would be a cheaper way to see if you have audio through headset.

Hello all. I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 laptop with a pioneer dvd rw k17b internal DVD burner drive. I recently have been experiencing issues with burning DVDs. It is saying that my burn speed is too low or the DVD is not compatible with the write speed of the burner and will not burn anything. I didn't have this problem until recently and it burned other DVDs fine until then. I have tried numerous brands of DVDs and none of them seem to work. I have also noticed that only the write speed of 2.4x shows in the drop down menu now...it had other options before. I have looked for firmware updates for the DVD burner and there isn't any. I have also checked device manager to make sure DMA was enabled and even tried uninstalling the driver and allowing windows to reinstall it upon reboot. I am running windows 7 operating system and have no clue what has happened to keep me from burning at a higher speed. I have also tried different burning software programs to see if I can get around it...no luck that way either. What has happened and how can I fix this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! HP wife mouse not working on Pavillion DV6700

I have a HP Pavillion DV6700 laptop computer with Intel Wireless WiFI Link 4965AGN and I have installed Windows 7 on it (originally it came with Windows Vista). I just bought a HP wife mouse but it's not working. Whenever I try to pair the device I get the error message "softAP not working". I checked on this forum and there are some suggestions like updating the Intel Wifi driver which I did but nothing seems to help. I also read somewhere that with some older generation wifi adapters, the new wifi mouse is not compatible.
How can I find out if the wife mouse is compatible with my laptop/wifi adapter? I don't want to spend hours and hours trying to make it work if there is a compatibility issue.

It would appear by your description that the mouse is faulty. If this behaviour started since the mouse was new 2 years ago, you should have returned it to the store you purchased it for a replacement or contacted HP Support directly for warranty help.
HP warranties its wireless mice for up to one year.
There is really nothing you can do at this point.

Intermittent Sound Issues - HP Pavillion dv6700 Entertainment Laptop

Hi,
I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 Entertainment Laptop running Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium and have been running into some strange sound issues first.
First, on occassion when I start my laptop I will get a "No Audio Output Device Installed" Message, and no sound controllers show up in the device manager. Strangely, sometimes if I restart the laptop or put it into hibernation and bring it back, the output device will again work.
Also, when it is working I am experiencing other strange issues. Often, sound will work only through headphones, and not through the built in Altec Lansing speakers. Other times, even with the headphones plugged in, I only get sound through the speakers. And sometimes, no sound through either, even though the computer at this point is showing a working audio device.
Lastly, when the sound does work through the speakers, it is normally crackling and distorted - it doesn't sound right at all.
The sound device installed on the computer is Contextant Smart Audio 221 (At least when it chooses to be working...)
I hope there is a solution to this problem, thank you very much for any support!

I also have a HP Pavillion laptop, with Windows Vista.. I am having sound issues, but not the same ones.. mine often displays the volume bar on the screen, clicking like I'm turning it up or down.. I can't get it to stop or go away.. I usually have to reboot and most of the time it stops, until the next time I open the laptop. Also, when it's not doing this, I can't control my volume from the touch pad volume control at the top of my keyboard. I thought maybe it was just damaged because it seems to have some scratches in that area where the top connects when closed, but I didn't think it made sense that rebooting will stop this, even temporarily. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, however, one driver didn't come back.. it actually seemed to be better at first, but now I have to reboot it almost everytime I open it. I thought if I didn't leave it in hibernation, just turn it off, while not using it, that would help, it didn't. I have also tried updating the drivers and they are updated.. If anyone knows what else I can do, please help, it's terribly annoying, plus I have a lot of music on it, I'd like to listen to it sometime.

Recently, my friend gave me his old laptop, a HP Pavillion DV6700. He kept his own hard drive for security reasons and when I went back to see what type of drive it needed, it was a type I had not seen before. I was wondering where I could buy such a hard drive. I know it is not an eSata or IDE but what else could it be? Thank you for your help.

dv6700 is a series of many laptops (can be from dv6700aa to dv6799zz) what is the model/product of your machine ? In general they use SATA II HDD:

Can I attach multiple external monitors to my Pavillion dv7 laptop?

I have one monitor connected through the HDMI interface and I would like to have another one attached as well. Can I use the VGA port (or the other flat one -- I do not kjnow what it is called) and have the monitors work in concert?

Theoretically you should be able to connect as many monitors as you have video out ports.
Since I don't have your model, I can only speculate.
I know that this is true of desktop PC's (where the onboard video is not disabled by an add on card).
I believe the other HDMI-looking port is a display port.

Hp pavillion dv6700 webcam problem with windows 7

I have hp pavillion dv6700, which had Windows Vista originally. I upgraded to Windows 7 and the webcam doesn't work amymore. When I launch Cyberlink Youcam, i get message " No video detected, please install camera" I have updated BIOS and all windows update and nothing works. "Image Device" in not shown under device manager. Please help

Hello Abzozo1. I understand you're getting the "webcam not detected" error.
What is the exact product number of the notebook? This document can show you where it is located.
Has the webcam ever worked since you upgraded the operating system?
To ensure that you have all of the software installed properly I suggest installing the HP Software Framework and HP Support Assistant. You can then run HP Support Assistant and it will automatically install any missing software. If that doesn't resolve the issue I suggest you take a look at my thread located here. This thread covers the common solutions to this error.
Take a look at that thread and let me know if any of the steps help.

Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

If all is pink (but you see the desktop), then normally one colour cable is broken - I think blue is off.
In your case (laptop) the connection to the display seems to be damaged, so the blue information is lost.
Normally you can test it when you twist the connection between pc and monitor. But I don't know if this works with a laptop.

HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop computer will not power on

My HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop computer (s/n CNF72132WJ, p/n GH783EA#ABU) will not power on - it gives 1 long beep followed by 3 short beeps and then does nothing. I've been told that the problem is the NVIDIA graphics card but am unable to find this part in the HP Parts Store. Is the NVIDIA graphics card a separate purchasable item for an HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop computer or is it integrated into the system board (p/n 443774-001)?
Where in the UK can I purchase either a replacement NVIDIA graphics card or a replacement system board (p/n 443774-001)?

The Nvidia graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard and you need to replace motherboard for the Notebook to work according to your diagnosis.
The Part# - 443774-001 is Out of stock and curent not available in HP Parts store however I just did a search for you on Ebay UK website and was able to find it in search results over here

Pavillion dv6700

Hi-
A little strange for me to post a question in an HP message board-since I am a Lenovo notebook repair tech.
I have a problem with an HP Pavillion dv6700.
This is a friend's notebook. The mother board was replaced-but still there were issues. (and not replaced by me) The DVD and the RJ45 jack are not functioning. The hard drive was loaded with viruses and spyware, so I recovered the hard drive and thought that would fix the problems-it didn't. So I went to HP's website and tried to detect the notebook for drivers-HP would not recognize the unit. Ok-so I went into the BIOS. No serial, product number or UUID in BIOS. Flashing the BIOS? probably-but I can seem to find the correct BIOS flash.
I was thinking that the IDE channels are not functioning due to the BIOS-but that's a theory. IRQ's are assigned in WIndows-so my theory is going down the tubes. I am thinking another mother board-but I hate to do that again .
So I was wondering if some one could post a link for the correct BIOS for this unit.

The product specs state that it has an AMD processor and nVidia chipset, so the BIOS flash on the driver and download page is valid for that motherboard.
You can flash the BIOS if the notebook is running Vista or XP.
You just can't flash it if it is running Windows 7.
For whatever reason almost (if not) everyone who has flashed any dv2xxx, dv6xxx or dv9xxx when running windows 7, has bricked their notebooks.

Loss of Sound HP Pavillion Entertainment Laptop DV6820ea

Operating System:  Windows Vista
Sound Driver :         Conextant High Definition Smart Audio 221 (SPDIF INTERFACE)
Other Programmes: I Tunes
Problem :     Sudden loss of sound, I have tried the obvious such as is the touch sensitive mute switched off and the volumes switched on . I did briefly have my i-touch connected via USB but don't remember doing anything other than connecting and disconnecting the USB cable. Then there was no sound. I have also tried via control panel testing the devices and the speaker test works correctly but other than this I am unable to get any sound from the laptop. I did find, although I can't remember where, next to a I-tunes file name yellow triangles but was unabe to delete. This will probably be a very obvious and simple solution! but I would greatly appreciate any help!    many thanks

This often occurs when you plug in an HDMI device, on my machine. Try manually setting the playback device:
Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar.
Select Playback Devices.
Right-click the audio device you want (i.e. Speakers)
Select Set as default device.
If this does not work, try logging in with an account that has administrative access. I discovered the wireless network can not be enabled by a non-administrative account, when it is disabled while logged in as an administrator. You have to go back to the admin account, enable wireless, and then log back to the other account.
Avoid updating your driver, unless the device no longer functions.
