Hp pavillion dv6700 system recovery inaccessible. how do i recover with disk set?

I am using vista, and need to set back to original state. I have tried recovery manager, advanced options, system recovery. System restarts and continues into windows with no changes. I have tried f11 to access system recovery, does nothing other than restart again.
There is a partition for system recovery. When I try to open the partition I am denied access.
Please help!

Two possibilities
A. Mark the recovery partition as "active" in disk management, then restart, with any luck it will boot into the recovery partition and start recovery.
Step 1
Back up ALL of your files. Everything you can think of: documents, pictures, spreadsheets, emails you've downloaded that you want to save, web browser bookmarks, iTunes library etc. You can save a lot of time by investing in an external drive and copying everything to it. Otherwise you can use DVD's it will just take a little longer. If you do not do this all your data will be lost during the recovery process.
Step 2
Open the start menu, right click on Computer, select manage. When the computer management window opens, select Disk Management. In the right pane you will see at least two partitions one will be named Recovery.
Step 3
Right click on the Recovery Partition and click mark as active. A warning will displayed, confirm you wish to set it as Active.
Step 4
Shut down your laptop completely, then restart the laptop. When the system restore starts select the option for the original factory restore and follow the prompts.

  • System Recovery disc - How to create without floppy drive?

I am trying to create a "system recovery disc" as part of the TOSSHIBA ASSIST (protect and fix section).
However before I proceed, I noted that it prompts for a "floppy" to create a recovery disc but as this model does not have this facility can the data be saved to CD. I did not want to get all through the procedure and find I could not finish it due to no floppy drive!
Or alternatively should I just use the product recovery DVD-Rom that came with the laptop in the event of a problem...not sure if this would hold the same data?
    Any help appreciated!

    Hello again
The recovery DVD and Tools & Utilities CD are two different things.
The recovery DVD that you got with your unit contains just an image. This image contains operating system, all necessary drivers, tools and different utilities. Like you know the Qosmio is pretty complicated unit and installation is not easy. Because of that Toshiba software department has created this image and on this way everybody (experienced and also non-experienced) users can be able to install the unit in very short time. If the unit is preinstalled with recovery CD it is not necessary to install any driver or other stuff.
Just restart the unit and have the fun. If some user wants to install own operating system they need to install all drivers, tools and utilities separately. Before all this stuff must be downloaded from Toshiba download page everyone can create own Drivers and tools CD and use it every time.
If you have more questions please write again.

  • How to completely erase ( no recovery partition remaining) a lion partition with disk utilities on lion install disk?

Where in a  lion install disc made from the installer can I find a bootable file with disk utilities?
I downloaded lion a few hours ago and installed.
I have 4 large hardrives (1.5TB) arranged in 8 partitions to allow me to work on a varied group of projects. I have some projects that need to be worked on with software running under Tiger, some with software that runs under leopard, some with snow leopard, and now Lion. I own multiple copies of software and multiple user pack system install discs.
On a regular basis, I back up chunks of work on projects to external discs, and special backup areas on one of my drives. I don't like using time machine because I am running many operating environments on my mac pro and I don't ever want to be tied to one operating environment for important functionality, and I want to maximize the open space on my hard drives.
Several partitions involve large video files. I am working on them in various versions of final cut, premiere and imovie. Because I have to use the same software versions my different clients are running, I don't want to move all the files " up" to a modern version. It would be professional suicide to stop accommodating my various clients. I say this to try to head off being told to make my clients upgrade. There are too many different clients and they are not going to replace all their equipment.
On these volumes with video files, I often fill them up and copy off what I need to backup before I erase and do a clean install.  I also run VM Fusion and windows XP. I absolutely do not want to have a Recovery HD partition left on the drive when I erase or influencing the other partions using different OS versions on that same drive.
Is there a bootable disc on the installer disk I just made? Can I use the disk utilities to do a low level erase on the lion volume that will remove the recovery partition?
Can I go back to booting from Snow Leopard and erasing the Recovery partition with the drive partition that way? Will the Snow Leopard utility take out the Lion HD recovery partition?
I am used to erasing my drives and rebuilding my machine and I believe it is the right way to use my multiple drives in my workflow. Now that I've got this invisible recovery partition, can you help me remove it and create a bootable disc that includes disk utilities?

I assume the unix pdisk command will show you want is going on.
You may not have a big worry.  There have always been a lot of hidden partitions. Disk Utility under 10.4.11 reports this drive has three (my now report four )  partitions, when pdisk reports that there are 15.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
Press return when done typing sudo pdisk -l
    -l include a lower case L
The sudo command will ask for your administration password. No characters will appear when typing your password. Press return when done typing. sudo stands for super user do.  It's just like root. Be careful.
    mac $ sudo pdisk -l

  • How to use addAll with a set of integers in array

Hi does anyone know how to use void addAll (Set other) with a set of integers?...i want to add all of the integers from the other set to this one. For example, if i have this set {4, 9, 2} and I wanted to add to it all of the integers from another set {3, 2, 8, 4}, the set becomes {4, 9, 2, 3, 8}. I'm stumped on how to do this..if anybody could help, thanks!

    Set1 = ...
    Set2 = ...
    Set1.addAll(Set2);
    addAll(Collection<? extends E> c)
Adds all of the elements in the specified collection to this set if they're not already present (optional operation). If the specified collection is also a set, the addAll operation effectively modifies this set so that its value is the union of the two sets. The behavior of this operation is unspecified if the specified collection is modified while the operation is in progress.

  • Firefox is hung upm in memory after a system recovery. How can you reset when you cant get your browser up. I have uninstall several times even in safe mode

after doing the recovery, I am getting message that firefox is running and I can't get a browser up. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, even in safe mode. All cookies out. have rebooted several times. all to no avail. I can't reset it if I can't get a browser and find no button on your page to reset. Can someone tell what to do?

Note that using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because not all files are restored (only files in a white-list), so be cautious with using System Restore.
*You may lose data in the Firefox profile folder like .js and .ini files.
*You may need to (re)install software that was affected.
In case you need to reinstall Firefox then you need to delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling to make sure that all files get replaced.

  • My account was deleted, but I have my recovery key, how can I recover my information?

    Hi there,
So my family computer was infected with a very persistent virus, and my mom wiped it without telling me, so I didn't have a chance to export my bookmarks. I installed the latest version of Mozilla on my new computer (Mozilla 35.0.5) and tried to set up sync with the login information I had written down from my other computer. It did not recognize my account information. Were old Sync accounts deleted from the system after Mozilla 29? I still have my recovery key, though it looks like that is no longer helpful. So I guess my questions would be:
    1) Why was my old account deleted?
    2) Can I use my recovery code in Mozilla 34.0.5 to get back my bookmarks?
    3) Is there anything else I can do?
    Thank you so much.

You would have to install an older Firefox 28 version if that data was saved using a Sync key.
The current version use the password of the Firefox account to generate the Sync key to encrypt and decrypt your personal data and use other servers.
After you have retrieved your data then you can update to Firefox 34.0 (or 34.0.5).

  • How to upgrade solaris with disk under ODS

    upgrade wsolaris

    Robert,
I am just worried about what might happen, if our internal SSD should fail. The system files, your user settings, mail boxes, everything in your user library and system library, the installed applications, plug-ins, Aperture presets, etc. From what you are describing, you are taking good care of your documents, but the system itself and the work you are putting into configuring it is not backed up. Should your system drive crash you would have a hard time to recover from that.
The easiest way to backup your system drive and the internal HD2 would be to use one of your 3TB drives with Time Machine. You need not necessarily Time Capsule to be able to do that. Time Machine can work with any external disk, that is formatted MacOS X extended.
Just plug in the backup drive you want to use, then open "System Preferences" and click the Time Machine icon.
Click the "Select Backup Disk" button.
Enable "Show Time Machine in Menu Bar".
Click the "Options" Button. If your backup drive is not large enough to include your Aperture library, deselect the other external drives in the "Options" panel. You may even deselect the second internal drive, if you are backing that up differently and only want to create a backup of the system. Then a small 500GB drive should suffice to get you started with system backups. But backing up both internal drives at once using TimeMachine would be much preferable.
Then set the switch to "on".
The first backup may take a very long time, but it will run in the background, so let it run.

    Hi,

  • Getting my HP Pavilion g7 with Windows 7 back to normal after a system recovery.

I did a system recovery for my HP Pavilion g7 with Windows 7 and have all of my files on a SanDisk thumb drive. How do I get my laptop's files, folders, shortcuts, applications, etc. all back to the way they were?

Hello marinegf.  I understand you've lost your sound after performing a System Restore.
What is the product number for your notebook?  There are many versions of the HP 2000 and this will make it easier for me to locate any appropriate software.  This document can show you how to identify the notebook by the product number.
Also, it may be helpful to know what issue you encountered which led you to perform a System Restore.
The first suggestion I can offer you is to run Microsoft's Audio Troubleshooter.  Here is a link to the utility.
If the troubleshooter is unable to resolve the issue I suggest you next try removing the driver and allowing Windows to perform the reinstall.  I assume you're using Windows 7, so these instructions will be for Vista/7.
Click Start, type "Device Manager," and press Enter.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your audio device and select "Uninstall."
Reboot your computer and allow Windows to perform the reinstallation of the driver.
Verify whether or not you have sound and post the result!
I'll keep an eye out for your reply.  I hope you have a great day!

  • How do I restore backup swm files created during system recovery from external hard drive

    Good day,
I was facing some problems with my laptop (HP Envy 17 3D Notebook with windows 7 home premium, 64 bit) and I had to return it back to its original state using system recovery.
During the process I was asked if I want to back up my data. I have chosen to backup my data in the flash drive. Once the process has completed and my laptop is to the original state, I tried to recover my backup but it tells me:
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
If i click run as administrator it tell me:
Windows cannot find 'F:\Backup_2015-04-29 143842\Restore.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
there are files labeled like backup.swm, backup1.swm, backup2.swm. I can't open these files or do anything with them. In a text document it lists all the files it apparently copied. It is only a list of text, nothing else.
any help will be greatly appriciated.

  • How do I restore backup1.swm files created during system recovery from external hard drive.

On my hp dm1 with windows 7 In full detail, this is what I did. I clicked to do a system recovery, it asked if I wanted to backup the files, I said yes. It said it backed up my files on the external hard drive. I continued the system recovery. It set my computer back to factory settings. I tried to recover my backup, it acted like it was restoring the files and showed them going into the c: area in a folder. I open the folder and it says the folder is empty. I hit properties and the folder contains 10mb+ of data. I go back into my LaCie drive, there are files labeled like backup.swm, backup1.swm, backup2.swm. I can't open these files or do anything with them. In a text document it lists all the files it apparently copied. It is only a list of text, nothing else. Have a 12 page research paper in these back ups that is due in a few hours so any help will be greatly appriciated.

    @Daniella1985,
If the standard procdure of locating the program launcher (a .exe file) on the first backup media (disk 1 or the external storage device) is not working, then you can manually extract the files using 7-zip.
    7-zip can be found here.
Once 7-zip is installed, open it and navigate to the first .swm file of the backup.  Right-click the .swm file and select 7-zip>open archive.  Once that opens, it should reveal the contents of the .swm files.  If the file contains something you want to keep, you can either extract each invidual file or extract the entire directory.  If you want to extract each individual file, highlight the desired file and click the extract button at the top.  If you want to extract the entire directory, make sure no items are highlighted and click the extract  button at the top.
This is a manual process and it can be a large task depending on how many files were backed up, but it is one method to get the backedup files when the standard procedure is not working.
