HP Pavillion DV6730ep - Recovery using last BIOS firmware from usb - How to

I have to recover a HP Pavillion DV6730ep; i need to upload the latest BIOS firmware in order to put the device working properly.
I've tryed the steps below, but i can't reproduce step 9.; when i download the latest BIOS firmware and try to install it, i just receive the message that it's no for my system.
Is there a workaround or something alike?
Using Windows 7:
I set up a brand new USB drive as follows:
    1. Rename the HP_TOOLS partition from the hard disk to something different like HP_TOOLSbak
    2. Plug in the USB drive
    3. Download and run the BIOS Update Utility (not the BIOS, yet)  from the HP support drivers page.
    4. Select the option to install on a USB drive
    5. Select the option to create the HP_TOOLS partition
    6. The drive should now be formatted as HP_TOOLS with a Hewlett-Packard folder containing BIOS and BIOSUpdate folders. The BIOS folder will contain empty Current, New and previous folders.
    7. Download and run  the HP System Diagnostics (UEFI) SP from the HP support drivers page
    8. Select the option to install on a USB drive. This will create a SystemDiags folder under the Hewlett-Packard folder
    9. Download and run the HP Notebook System BIOS Update from the  HP support drivers page, since the usb drive is labeled correctly it will install the bios update to the USB drive.
10 You should end up with an HP_TOOLS partition on the USB drive identical to the one that you deleted from the hard disk.

Hello ValeryWildflowr,
If the computer was working fine before you might just want to try a system restore. This should correct the problem without affecting any of your files.
Here is a link for a system restore.
Let me know if this helps.

    Hi,
I see that the DSPware version says 0.0.0 and the current state shows "BAD" which should not be the case. Are you running 12.4(24)T IOS because i see that the default version of DSP should be 24.3.0 as printed in the output. By default the IOS itself contains the default DSPware in it but if it does not show up in your router, try reloading the router to see whether it fixes your issue. If not check the following link which lists the steps to be followed to install a new DSPware on your router.

  • Computer won't boot after last BIOS update from Toshiba.

It was working fine before the update.  Shut down and can't boot; blank screen with blinking cursor.  I have followed the suggestions of getting into the computer but the HDD cannot be found.  Finally got into BIOS but when I run repair I get error: 08-0E89-0000---Partition Creation Failed.  Any help would be greatly appreciately. I have a Satellite A665-S6086 running Win 7 Home 64-bit.

Thanks Peter for your reply but that is a non-issue now as I purchased a new HD WD750 Black to replace the one I was having problems with and the recovery worked fine, so I thought.  When the computer goes to sleep or hibernate, I don't know which the HD fails on waking.  I was going to try recovery again but instead I reseated the HD and it booted.  This has happened a couple times since the initial 'fail' but seems to Restart fine.  but I have only done it once.  Of course all of these problems started after BIOS 2.30 update last week.
BTW I had tried all the steps provided to other members having the same problem (Puppy, recovery disk, pressing 0 and removing battery while holding something down) but was getting nowhere and it seemed to me that all HDs can't all fail at once.  So that's why I added the part about the BIOS update that no one seemed to acknowledged.  computer working, install update and restart and the HD failed; yes to me it was questionable.  Additionally, judging by some of the repair technics it is assumed that we members are more advanced or that buy our recovery disk will fix the problem but it does not fix every problem especially if the HD is not recognized. But what do I know.

it all seems fine to me but I don't understand why the router is giving that message and if I should do something about it.
this is happening because I updated the IOS to the above version.
I thought I had nothing to do to update the dsp firmware that it was integrated in the ios.
    any thoughts?
    thanks.

    Hi,
I read some earlier discussions and referred the  DOC but could not find anything concrete and the compatible DSP firmware version with your running IOS.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/voice/voice-quality/109469-dspware-c5510dsp.html
Also, some discussions say opening  a TAC case to get the desired rbf file and uploading the same in flash of router. You can try the same.

If you own Lightroom 5, you received a serial number for it, that is what you want to use.
If you don't have it any more (not a good idea, by the way), you should be able to find it via: Find your serial number quickly

  • DSPs using non-default firmware

    Hello everyone,
I have this problem that I'm facing.
I had a branch router which was working fine then all of a sudden incoming/outgoing calls stopped working.
I noticed a new line in configuration
    voice-card 0
! Warning! DSPs 1 in slot 0 are using non-default firmware from device flash:
! This is not recommended, the IOS default version is 24.3.4
The thing is I have many branch sites that are working using the same router hardware model (2811) as well as same IOS version.(c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-24.T2.bin)
I changed the IOS (new version is c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-24.T4.bin) but still the line is there and the case is not solved.
Could it be a hardware issue with the router itself or the WIC card?
    Really appreciate your help
    Thanks,
    Ahmed

    Hi Ahmed,
This warning message may not be the issue why calls stopped working through the router is you did not make any changes in the IOS or the dsp version.
The dsp firmware can be upgraded independently from the bundled firmware that is in IOS.  You would usually do this if you need to get a bug fix in the dsp firmware but wanted to remain on the same IOS release.  There is some risk involved in this as there could be compatibility issue between the firmware version and the IOS release hence the warning message that is displayed.
If you stay within the same general release branch of the firmware that is bundled with IOS, then you should not see any issues; for example if you had 24.3.2 installed when the default was 24.3.4.  Having said that, 24.3.4 is the latest version in that release branch so I would guess that you are running an earlier release which was installed from some previous incident.
Check your flash and you should see the dsp firmware there.  A "show voice dsp" will show the version that is currently running on the router.  You can remove it or rename it to something else so that it will not be loaded, but you should try to find out why it was there is the first place.
Check the link below for more detailed information on maintaining the dsp firmware on IOS routers.
Without knowing more details on the problem you are experiencing, I cannot gude you further on what else to look at.  We have documents that cover voip troubleshooting but you may need to open a tac case.
    Thanks, Bryan

  • How to update recovery firmware through USB stick ix2-dl

Hi, can someone help me - please. My ix2-dl doesn't work. Power led (red) blink all the time. NAS doesn't receive IP address so I can't get there via web browser. I think it is good idea to recovery firmware from USB but I don't know how can I do it. I can't find any help in this topic. Thanks in advance Chris

I would recommend calling tech support directly. They should be able to supply you with the imager/firmware to flash the unit.

  • Booting BIOS from USB doesn't work (890FXA-GD70)

    Hi all,
in case of BIOS crash, recent MSI motherboards should be able to boot using a BIOS provided from an USB pendrive. I have tested this function by calling it directly by BIOS option, but it fails after BIOS is loaded getting a blank screen (debug code: 09) or the monitor off (debug code: 31). Does any of you know whether the problem is fixable or any hints? Is it working to you?
    890FXA-GD70 (either BIOS 1.0 and 1.6)
Verbarim Store'n' go 4GB USB pendrive (tested with FAT32, FAT16 formats, partitions smaller, bigger... nothing)
BIOS save function doesn't work as well. Some bytes are different comparing the saved file to original one.

it's probably m-flash issue, what's current bios version installed?
Yes, you can say: "Flash your BIOS to the last version released some days ago, and retry", but that is the last chance for clear reasons. The problem hasn't been fixed flashing from 1.0 to 1.6, and I guess likely this code with the bug is in non flashable part of BIOS.
I wonder whether Boot 2nd BIOS from USB Drive (or Backup BIOS to USB Drive) is working for someone, it looks impossible it is entirely broken...

  • What to do with bricked motherboard? MSI P67A-G45 AFTER FLASHING LAST BIOS

I flashed MSI P67A-G45 by the last BIOS for IB CPU. The flashing goes twice with intermediate reset. Before I flashed P67A-C43 by the same version from MSI, and all was Ok.
I flashed new BIOS from version 1I under DOS mode. There was a problem with pen drive and I used hard disk without USB pen drive. That was my error. The exe file started and flashed BIOS  normally and then after reset started flashing Intel ME firmware. I thought all is going ok and the image is taken from HDD. But after the process finished and motherboard reset, it didn't start at all. The fan starts and stops, LED blinks and motherboard behaves the same way even without CPU. What can I do? Is there any way, suppose, using a EEPROM writer? I have one and I can take the BIOS chip off and flash by old version of BIOS. What can You advise? Maybe the second flash process writes another chip - can You tell me about it. Please advise how to manage this problem.
I received no help from support. I'm not a novice - I work in repair center and have soldering station etc. Can You explain me anything about second flashing process? I need only information and I will be able to manage th :lol_anim:is problem.

  • Toshiba Satellite A300-129 Crisis Recovery Mode Phoenix BIOS with USB drive

When flashing my BIOS back from v4.20 to a v3.90 I found on the net, everything went alright in windows, but as soon as I rebooted, the laptop showed the symptoms of a failed BIOS.
I'm now trying to repair the BIOS using the crisis recovery tool. I used the following procedure to create the USB stick and recover the BIOS
-Run the WINCRIS.Exe file in administrator and compatibility mode (Windows XP SP2)
-Select the USB drive (1GB Kingston), and format it with the tool
-Reinsert the drive and format again with the tool without restarting it to be sure that the disk is properly formatted
-Take the BL5S3D57.WPH file from the toshiba BIOS update and rename it to BIOS.WPH, and copy to the Crisdisk directory
-Copy the files BIOS.WPH (the one from toshiba I renamed), minidos.sys and winphlash16.exe to the drive in windows
    -Take the drive out
-Plug battery out, plug AC out of laptop, hold the power button for a few seconds to make sure no remaining current is in the laptop
    -Plug the USB Drive in
-Hold Fn+Esc in my case, this is the key combination where the laptop tries to read the USB drive the moment it boots up. It has something to do with enabling a boot block in the BIOS with that key combination.
-Plug AC in while still holding the F button
The F button does not nescessarily need to be held while plugging in AC, the laptop also tries to read from the drive if I hold it after plugging AC in, and before pushing the power button.
    -Press the power button
I need to push the button twice, because the first time after plugging in AC the power button doesn't do a thing. When holding the power button for around 10 seconds after right after plugging AC in, the laptop boots sometimes, didn't find a pattern yet here.
The easy thing however is to just push the button 2 or 3 times, then it boots, and the booting procedure seems exactly the same as when holding the power button
-Wait for the LED to flash on the USB Drive. Very important: it seems to only flash ONCE for me, so it means it tries to access the drive, but I think it doesn't contain the right files or isn't formatted correctly. If I keep holding the F button while the laptop is on, the LED flashes once every 10-20 seconds.
From here on out the laptop is supposed to be reading the BIOS files from the USB drive, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. So here comes my question:
What could I be doing wrong in formatting the drive or writing the files to it?
Do I have the wrong CRISDISK? Is it normal that the files arent copied by CRISDISK to the USB Drive and that I have to do it myself?
Am I using the wrong WinPhlash? Or should I use the files that are supplied in the official BIOS rar from toshiba?
I have tried different versions of CRISDISK, different USB Drives (one 4GB would not be read by the broken laptop, and another 1GB would not be read by CRISDISK when trying to format the drive)
Tried different files on the USB Drive, tried bios.wph instead of capitals, tried BIOS.FD,...
I'm kind of running out of options here to try. Is there anyone who has experience with this recovery mode flashing that could tell me what I might be doing wrong? Or that has any suggestions on which other CRISDISK or toshiba updates to use?
Thanks anyways to people who read this and try to help!

I hope that Russian service provider will be as honest as the European one and won't solder something out as a souvenir :)
They said, it will take approximately a week.
Serviceman said that L30 has no built-in crisis recovery routine.
So I wasted money by buying an USB floppy disk drive and risked to burn something in my laptop by frequent powering it on and off (and may be burnt, will see).
The lesson I learnt is never flash BIOS if everything works and if even flash then not from Windows (btw. I flashed successfully my Satellite A300 from Windows without any problems).
Phoenix makes its BIOSes since 2001 with a crisis recovery boot block, but Toshiba locks this feature in many laptops, I think, not without a reason. Service providers want money too :)

  • Recovery using Full BCV backup & archive logs

    Hello DBA's ,
I have Last Sunday's Full BCV (Buisness Copy Volume) backup (i.e. ..... the tablespaces were taken into Backup mode then Sync the BCV, then split the BCV , take the backup of BCV and take the tabespaces in normal mode in short what we call as HOT BACKUP ........ ) & also I am taking only archive log & control file backup Daily.
Now I want to Run my database on Different Server using the above FULL BCV & daily backed up Archive logs & Control file.
Kindly update me- Can I go for following recovery steps for above scenario.
    1) Install ORACLE software on new server.
    2) Restore the last Sunday's FULL BCV (Hot backup)
    3) Restore the archive log from last Sunday's Full BCV backup.
    4) Restore the latest backed up control file.
    5) Mount the database.
    6) Recover the database using backed up control file & archive logs.
    7) Open the database with RESETLOGS option.
Please Guide me whether I can Fully Recover/Start database on this new server using above steps. ---OR---- " Are there any more files except data files that need to be backed up daily after Full BCV ? " ---OR ---- More suggestions are Welcome.
I want to test this scenario bcz.
    a) I can't afford daily BCV due to lack of storage with current retention given by buisness.
    b) I can't afford long time taken by RMAN for backup & recovery, as it disturbs my other backup shedules, also RTO should be very low as per my buisness requirement.
    c) Currently we are not thinking for any another Backup options.

So, I opened my database using Last (Sunday's) full hot backup only and it opens successfully without applying any archives.
Now, my question is... why my database doesn't open with OPEN RESETLOGS option when I am recovering it using command " RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL CANCEL USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE; "
I want to recover my database upto Saturday then What should I do ?
    Please help me out !

  • Can I use Zen Nano firmware in my N200? Also battery cover replaceme

I was looking for a firmware update for my N200 and noticed it hadn't been updated since February. The N200 isn't even listed in the menu of products. The Nano and Nano Plus were listed separately, however, and the Nano has been updated this month. Can I use it in my N200? I've searched this forum and read you cannot use Nano Plus firmware in an N200, but the Nano is listed separately so I thought maybe it was a rebadged N200. Thanks!
Also, my battery cover broke. How can I go about getting a replacement? I looked through the online store and accessories, but didn't see anything.Message Edited by bookends on 06-22-2006 2:36 AM

The last update for the N200 added Thai support for the display.
The last update for the Nano Plus added Chinese and Japanese language support. This might not be of interest to most, but it is to me. I am also always interested in improvements in firmware revisions no matter how small. I also don't see a comprehensi've changelog, just a "changes since last version." The N200 and Nano Plus are basically identical, but why does the Nano Plus continue to get firmware revisions the N200 does not? There are obvious improvements the Nano Plus benefits from that the N200 does not. It doesn't make sense to me.

  • ORA-01610: recovery using the BACKUP CONTROLFILE option must be done

    Hello All,
I have an instance on my LAB server. To explore more avenues in cloning a DB I did the following.
    1. On my Oracle 10g Instance I fired an large query which would take atleast an hour to execute.
    2. Opened another session and executed shu ABORT to shutdown the above instance abruptly.
    3. Took backup of datafiles, archive logs and redologs [ prior to shu abort, I had issued ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE]
    Restoration steps:
NOMOUNT with pfile edited to hold the name of the new DB_NAME
Create control file script edited to reflect the new paths of datafile and redologs.
    MOunted succesfully.
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;

I didn't find the file it was suggesting so I tried many combinations of providing the right recovery file name :-- All the latest Archive logs and Redologs in my backup.
Still the recovery is not successful. Please let me know how can I recover my DATABASE.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Greetings,
If I understood, you basically have a copy of a primary database and the redo log archives of this pretty same database, you have backed up the control file of this primary database, edited it pointing all paths of your datafiles to the new location but renaming the instance name.
I am assuming that you have edited the first line of your control file to something like "CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "DB02" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG", in this case are you sure that the redolog archives have not loose the sequence? In this case it will ask more and more archives and it will never end, take a look at the date and time of the thread that your instance is asking for recovery. Is your instance a production database? If it is NOT production and you are SURE that the database is completely recovered and is asking for redolog files that does not even exist you can try to add the ALLOWRESETLOGS_CORRUPTION=TRUE to your init.ora and open the db... This solution is not recommended and you should never use it on production instances... take this hint as a LAST effort to bring your db online.
