HP Pavillion DV7

I am completely frustrated.
Almost 3 years ago I purchased the HP DV7 laptop. It is supposed to be a flagship of HP laptop range. I am currently still paying on the laptop with I shall complete the payment in June 2014. To date, I have experienced nothing but TROUBLE. Within the first year, the first laptop hard drive packed up. This was successfully replaced by HP. However, I have had to pay somone to re-install the software as the installation HP did, did not function properly and the recovery drive was missing so i could not do ti myself.
Less than a year later, my screen packed up. Once again, I sent it in for repairs and the screen was replaced.
My subwoofer on the laptop then packed up and I called in again only to be advised that my warrantee has expired even thou I am still paying on the product.
My second hard drive packed up soon afterwards and I was forced to purchase a new hard drive which cost me in access of R 1500.00.
And my final blow.....my screen has gone bonkers again.
I now own a USELESS FLAGSHIP HP PAVILLION DV7 LAPTOP WORTHLESS R 17500.00.
I bought an ACER for R 2500.00 about two months after I purchsed my HP DV7 for my wife. It still operates as the day I purchased it.
My Thoughts.....
DO NOT BUY HP PRODUCTS. HP = HIGH PRICE = HIGHLY PERISHABLE = HIGH PROBLEMS
I am uterly disgusted by HP as they are supposed to be world leaders in design and technology with a reputable brand. R19000.00 later, and all I have is a laptop good enough for a RUBBISH DUMP.
THANK YOU HP FOR WASTING MY HARD EARNED MONEY. I WILL NEVER SUPPORT YOU AGAIN NOR PURCHASE ANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS NOR WILL I RECOMMEND ANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS TO MY CLIENTS, COLLEGUES, FRIENDS, FAMILY AND ANYONE ELSE WHO ASKS.
From great believer and supporter of HP products for almost 20 years, BUT NO MORE.

Do you have another computer with a DVD burner available? If it has Windows Vista or later you can download the free ISO Recorder here:
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Install this program on the computer. Download the .iso to the desktop. Right click and open with the ISO Recorder program. Have a blank burnable DVD in the drive.
Once the DVD is burned insert it in the DVD drive of the laptop. Tap F9 as you power up to select the DVD drive as the boot device. You have the new blank hard drive installed. Follow Windows 7 install prompts. If you need more specific help with installing Windows 7 let me know. When Windows 7 is installed you can come to this site and get the drivers needed to complete the installation.
Here is the driver download page:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4125...
You might want to download these driver files to a thumb drive or burn them to a disk so you can use them right after Win7 is done installing in case there is no internet acess without the drivers.

Several months ago it started getting hot and showing messages about problems with the internal fan and battery. It would say enter = shutdown and shut off. I suspected a bad battery so I checked it without it just plugging it in with the power cable. It seemed to work better so I assumed that was the problem.
I ordered a new battery and it worked for a while. The problem came back and is getting worse. I can run it without the battery for a while but it gets got and shows the same message.

  • I have a Pavillion dv7 error message HARD DRIVE ERROR How do I correct this?

My computer is a Pavillion dv7  model WW181AV  running Windows 7
no changes have been made for quite some time (over a year)
During startup- the HARD DISK ERROR comes on.  Iran the diagnostics as listed in the HP Diagnostic screen and no error found.  Cannot get rid of this error how can I fix this?

If the hard disk diagnotics report no problem then the issue is with your operating system.
A windows 7 startup repair disk should resolve the issue.  Windows 7 Startup repair disks are not freely downloadable. You will need to have acces to a PC or notebook that is running the same version and type (32 or 64-bit) as your installed OS. When you have access to such a PC and a blank DVD, then you can make a repair disk of your own.

  • HP Pavillion DV7 Hard Drive failure and replacement

    Hi all,
As the title mentions, I have an HP Pavillion DV7, p/n: NB406AV. The SMART is showing an imminent hard drive failure. The primary hard disk quick test stops at 4% and shows a code "303" for hard disk 1. It also stops at 4% when doing a full HD scan.
So, I'll be replacing the HD. I have no idea what to buy, and I plan on buying a non HP HD. Can anyone tell me the specs I should look for? I'd like to get the biggest GB HD that will be compatible as well. Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
It usesSATA HDD. Some dv7 models use SATA II but many later models use SATA III. SATA III is backwrd compatible but more expensive. DV7 is a series of hundreds different models and you won't go wrong with SATA III drive. It can accept current generation HDD's. The following HHD is a good choice with a good price/performance ratio per Gb:
       http://www.seagate.com/au/en/internal-hard-drives/laptop-hard-drives/laptop-solid-state-hybrid-drive...
You can use 1Tb on your machine. New HDD's are thinner but the screws will be lined up and should be strong enough to hold the HDD in place.
    Regards.

The laptop will not boot up.  It goes straight to the black screen.  There is also a strange beep noise coming from near the number pad - inside the laptop - while it tries to start up. Help!

Somebody might have removed the hard drive or dropped the computer and killed it. Can you open the hard drive bay on the bottom of the computer and look inside?

  • Need to replace a damaged HMDI port (HP Pavillion Dv7 1270us laptop)

Where can I get a new port and how would I replace it?
    HP Pavillion Dv7 1270us laptop
    Windows 7 64-bit

    Hi,
The port is on the video card, replacing the port means replacing the video card and replacing the video card may mean replacing the whole motherboard.
Buying a new motherboard probably the way to go. You can order from this:
      http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/?cc=US&lang=EN&jumpid=hpr_r1002_usen
    Regards.
Updated: Your machine uses NVIDIA 9600GT, but you can not find MXM adapter. You may also can try to order this card from HP using the above link but I think you have to buy the whole motherboard.

  • Can I attach multiple external monitors to my Pavillion dv7 laptop?

I have one monitor connected through the HDMI interface and I would like to have another one attached as well. Can I use the VGA port (or the other flat one -- I do not kjnow what it is called) and have the monitors work in concert?

    Hi, Jerry:
Theoretically you should be able to connect as many monitors as you have video out ports.
Since I don't have your model, I can only speculate.
I know that this is true of desktop PC's (where the onboard video is not disabled by an add on card).
I believe the other HDMI-looking port is a display port.

  • How to repair Pavillion dv7-4065dx broken hinge

The left hinge on my Pavillion dv7-4065dx is broken.  I understand that HP will do nothing about it.  Does anyone know how to repair or replace it?

Hi LAFred. You can look up the part you need in the Maintenance and Service Guide, and see if that part is available for purchase through HP PartSurfer.
Is it on page 28, item #3 that you need?

  • Hp pavillion dv7-3065 laptop will not turn on - led light blinks, ac's light on?

HP Pavillion dv7-3065 with Windows 7.
I fell asleep two days ago, and when I woke up yesterday, my laptop was off. (The battery very well may have died while I was sleeping, or just shut off on its own. I don't know which.) I tried turning it on, but nothing happened... except for the lightning bolt (LED light) blinking three times. No noises inside, blank screen, nothing aside those three blinks.
For the record, I've already tried removing the battery. I've also tried removing the battery, removing the AC cord, and holding in the power button for 30+ seconds. It didn't work.
I've tried removing the battery and running off AC. This still doesn't work. However, the laptop recognizes that it's plugged in; the little light by it is consistantly on. I've also tested my laptop with another AC adapter just to be safe. Nothing.
My laptop has been tested without harddrive/etc, but I'm still at a blank. I don't know what else to do. My boyfriend, who's in school to be an IT, took it into his teacher, who messed around with it, and came up with a few conclusions.
He believes that because the lights are flashing, he's confidant that my motherboard is fine. He said to replace the battery, and if that doesn't work, solder the ...I forgot what exactly, but basically it's the charging connection. I forget what exactly. My apologies there.
However... I feel like replacing the battery would be a waste of money... Because regardless of battery, the laptop should still turn on with the AC cord. My boyfriend intends to bring this up and ask if he can just skip to the other thing anyway, but he doesn't have that class again for a week, and I'm at a loss of what else to do. Aside from that, his teacher says there's a limited number of other things that could be wrong...
I was hoping to get some more input...

This won't help you out, but I am experiencing the same problem... I am gonna look on this post to see if you get an answer!
I have the same problem! Except I did manage to get mine to turn on. After doing the hold the power down thing. Nothing happened. I did leave the lap top on cause I was irritated and walked away, about an hour later it came on. It let me turn it on and off a few times. Then stopped. Then leaving it sit on stopped working too

    Hello Analie,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand you are looking to change the language on your HP Pavilion dv7-1090eo from Norwegian to English. Unfortunately, the Recovery Discs are no longer available for purchase for your computer at this point, but that does not leave you without options.
If you still have Windows Vista installed you can follow the steps in the Microsoft Support document: No need to translate, with this you can Change the display language to English.
If you upgraded to Windows 7 you need Windows 7 Ultimate installed to change the Windows 7 display language. You can do this by following the steps I have set out below:
Install Language Pack in Windows 7 Ultimate
Step 1. Start -> All Programs --> Windows Update --> Optional Updates.
Step 2. Open optional Updates and go to the section Windows 7 Language Packs.
Step 3. Tick the Language Pack you want and hit OK
Step 4. Proceed with Install Updates
Step 5. Depiction of Windows 7 downloading a Language Pack
Step 6. Automatic install initiated after download
How to change the Windows 7 Display Language:
Step 1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Clock, Language, and Region / Change the display language
Step 2. Switch the display language in the Choose a display language dropdown menu.
    Step 3. Click OK
Step 4. Log off for the changes to take effect (This will affect only the user profile under which you are currently logged on).
If you have Windows 7, but not Windows 7 Ultimate you can upgrade your operating system to Windows 7 Ultimate which includes Multilingual User Interface (Language Pack) support. You can then install the English Language Pack from under Regional and Language settings in Control Panel.
You can do an Anytime Upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate which will preserve your personal files and settings: Windows Anytime Upgrade: frequently asked questions, should answer any questions you have concerning this.

  • Trying to reingtall win7 on pavillion dv7 cant get past a dialog select the driver to be installed

Hi I have a HP Pavillion DV7-4065dx Refurbished Notebook PC with the following specs:
    AMD Phenom II Triple-Core N830 2.1GHz
    4 DDR3
    500 HDD
    Blu-ray
    17.3" Display
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    MPN:  RB-WQ861UA
    Serial Number: [Personal Information Removed]
I recently tried to reinstall my windows and made the mistake of loading windows 7 Home Premium x86 (32 bit) when it should have been Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and my fingerprint reader wouldn't install. I tried upgrading to the 64 bit which failed with a message about incompatible hardware. I tried doing a HP System restore from both the restore drive and from backup disks I didn't have any luck with either. The restore using the 5 cds I created made it to the 5th cd and then failed without any reason other than error code "HP Recovery Manager error Code 0xe0ef000e" and told me to contact HP Support.
I have deleted my partitions and created just one partition at this point and tried to install windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it starts off ok but gets to a dialog that says install windows => select the driver to be installed => and I can't get beyond this point. It doesn't tell me what driver it is looking for and my only options are browse and rescan because next is grayed out.

    Hi:
Your PC should not require any special drivers for W7 to install.
Try downloading the W7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit iso file from the link below and follow the instructions to use the Microsoft ISO to USB tool.
Make sure you get the whole file to download. Make a note of the advertised size and compare that with the actual file that downloaded. Sometimes it states the download was complete but the whole file isn't there.
Use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link  below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.
