HP Pavillion M6 1010tx Left hinge breaking apart

Hey!
So my dad bought me HP Pavillion M6 - 1010tx just over a year ago and I have been using it very very carefully. I just started noticing that the left hinge just under the screen is breaking apart. Initially I thought I might have banged it somewhere but I was sure I didn't. Upon researching a bit, I found out that it is a very common issue with these models. I have come across a lot of posts where the users have had the same issue.
I'm just wondering if it's such a common issue, is HP taking care of it? Or is there any replacement part available? I looked everywhere and the replacements parts are not available.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

  • Dm4 - 1165dx notebook hinge breaking apart?

    Pavilion dm4- 1165dx notebook
    Windows 7
    1.5 years of usage
    No history of hardware changes
Today I noticed, that when I was closing my Pavilion dm4- 1165dx notebook it started making creeky sounds near one of the hinges. So I investigated and looked in the back and noticed small little specs of black pieces were on table along with a loose silver cover hinge (this part was still attached just loose). What did I do? What should I do? How is the computer breaking down already when it's a little over a year old since I purchased it? Thanks for your help and time.

I had the same thing happen to me. I let it go for several months. From creeking and sounding weird, it progressed to have the screen freeze up and fill with lines that could be fixed by opening and closing the screen a little bit. Then near enough the second anniversary of buying the laptop, one of the hinges broke free from the plastic housing and screen. The rough plastic edges cracked the screen and I lost the picture. To replace it at that point would be more expensive than getting a quicker, faster machine.
I don't know if its a common problem, but its an expensive pain. I would listen to the other post and replace the hinges and plastic covers while you still have time to save the machine.

  • Pavillion DV9720ea Left Hinge Broken

    I purchased a Pavillion DV9720ea laptop in March 2008.
2 weeks ago whilst opening the laptop I heard a cracking sound. Upon investigation the left hinge had come apart slightly and there was broken plastic and a small bronze coloured circular fixing fell out.
I am led to believe that the laptop now requires a new hinge, back cover and bezel at a cost of £175 (including VAT).
It appears from research on the internet and speaking to a number of UK based repair centres that this is a common fault with this series of laptops.
HP refuse to acknowledge this as a fault despite numerous complaints by customers with this very fault.
There has been a limited recall on earlier models in the Pavillion DV9xxx range for this very fault, yet HP are still prepared to fix this issue.
I have spoken to numerous members of HPs South Africa based call centre, and each time I have been told that it has been escalated as far as possible, only to find out that there are indeed people I can (and have) speak to. In fact, I apparantly spoke to someone in the Managing Director's office in South Africa (Somehow I don't think so!).
Does anyone know what my next steps should be? Has anyone else had the same problem?

Unfortunately, I am in the UK and the price for anything to be repaired by HP is around £300 (Approx $450).
The price I've been quoted is from an approved repairer at £175 (Approx $260).
The people I've spoken to at HP all deny that there is a problem and are unwilling to help - they've not even discounted the cost of the repair on a fault which they are fully aware of from the sounds of it

  • Dv7 Left hinge pulling case apart? What the heck!

I have a dv7 that is very rarely used (I think I purchased it in 2012).  I noticed recently that my hinges are making a lot of noise/struggling.
Tonight I realized that the left hinge is completely busted and pulling the casing apart.  The laptop is clearly out of warranty, so I'm guessing I have no recourse.  I came upon another thread on this forum where HP was fixing the problem on other dv7's, but I'm not sure if those people were still in warranty or not.
    Any help or advice?
    Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem with mine! Same model, Envy DV7-7227CL. I've seen a lot of the forum posts about Envys in general having this issue. I've only had mine for 14 months, and it's been a stationary laptop to replace my desktop (also an HP). It's really upsetting that all you have to do is open and close the screen regularly for this to happen.
Mine hasn't broken away yet, but once I realized the case was starting to pull apart, I applied some eletricians tape to the area and stopped adjusting or moving the screen. Has HP offered you any solutions on repairs out of warranty? I'm pretty pissed that I'll have to spend money to fix what is obviously a manufacturer's defect, but I need my laptop to be able to open and close.

  • How to repair Pavillion dv7-4065dx broken hinge

The left hinge on my Pavillion dv7-4065dx is broken.  I understand that HP will do nothing about it.  Does anyone know how to repair or replace it?

Hi LAFred. You can look up the part you need in the Maintenance and Service Guide, and see if that part is available for purchase through HP PartSurfer.
Is it on page 28, item #3 that you need?

  • Lenovo Y50 still have the hinge breaking problem?

Do anyone know if the Lenovo Y50 is still having the screen display hinge breaking or exploding from the base problem?

My Laptop has just started falling apart about a month after my warranty ended (of course) here is my list of problems that have been happening since my warrenty ended. 1. The part that the screw actually screws into the part that holds the hinge to the laptop has broken off so my screen is being held on by 1 screw very scary as it could fall of any minute. 2. The plastic piece that covers the hinge will pop off everytime I open my laptop and makes a horrible cracking sound when I have to keep opening my laptop to snap back the plastic piece so that I can use my laptop. I am now using scotch tape to fix this for now very embarrasing when gaming with my friends. 3. I have been slowly losing screws on the bottom of my laptop to hold the whole thing togeather I am now down to 8 out of the 12 that are supposed to be there. A screw just recently fell off and it happend to be the last screw that was holding my screen to the laptop so I had to swap some screws around so that my screen was being held on by something. I was looking for a quality gaming laptop I could take to college and I will be heading off to college in a month!  I would not sugguest this laptop and will probably never purchase a lenovo product again as this seems to be a somewhat common problem.

I have an HP envy that i bought in march of 2014 and the left hinge has broken!! it has never been dropped or slammed shut or anything that would normally break a hinge. i have no idea where to get a replacement hinge or to take the computer for it to be fixed.  i dont want the problem to get worse of for it to crack my touchscreen. suggestions??

  • Broken left hinge on pavilions M6

hi my daughters pavillion m6-1004saa has also just broken on the left hinge and it's pushing out the bezel for the screen. it seems this is an inherrent fault judging by all the other posts? could we have some help from 'jeff' please? hoping you can help as we only bought this in nov 2012, but it was from currys so we cant go back to the retailerhoping you can helplinda

Like many other owners of an HP Pavilion M6 notebooks I too have a broken left hinge and was quoted a large ammount of money to have it repaired. When it seems to be an inherent problem with their product as I have seen by the many complaints. This problem as far as I can see, HP have not offered to fix as an agreed fault but only if paid for by the customer, who's only mistake was to buy a faulty product.I have never dropped my Pavilion and always use a padded bag designed for notebooks and since all customer complaints regarding the hinge seem to be identical in the LEFT Hinge, HP should come to the party and repair them for free.As a well known saying goes here in Australia "Not Happy Jan ! " which was coined from a TV add and has now been added to our venacular.I will not buy HP again.

  • Hp envy m6-1125dx hinges falling apart

I bought this m6-1125dx about two years ago and the hinges started falling apart a few weeks ago. First the right hinge and now the left hinge. It broke the plastic around the screen and now it's just being held by those wires. I was okay with it but it seems like the added stress has broken half the screen of the laptop. I take extremely good care of my stuff and it's unacceptable that a laptop would just start falling apart after two years. Apparently this is a very common problem and HP hasn't even done a recall.
    HP can you fix this?

    @Ron92 ,

  • Left hinge broken on ENVY m6

My left hinge is falling apart. It's been weak since I got it repaired within warranty when I bought it. When I bought it, part of the screen didn't work and I think when it was repaired some damage was done to the back of the screen (the metal on the lid was pretty bent out of shape) and its gotten too bad to deal with now.

  • Premier 3.02 crashes when breaking apart transferred slide show

Following the instructions in a reply on the PS Elements forum, when I right click on the scene transferred from PSE to Premier Elements and right click in the menu to break apart the slide show for additional editing, after receiving a "low system memory" warning Premier eventually crashes. The error message is "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe PE to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project."
    I'm running PE 3.02
    Vista Business
    3.00GB RAM
Video card AT1 Radeon HD 3450
    54.3 GB free disc space
No browser or Outlook is open and have even closed PS Elements before trying to break apart the Premier scene slide.
I have had no problems, warnings, or crashes constructing a 30 minute slide show in PS Elements.

    Gina,
    >Open Premiere then try to begin my project in from Photoshop and get the same issue. The message from Windows says shut down due to serious error.
It is not clear to me WHEN the failure occurs in this scenario. Does Premiere Elements start up OK? Can you open a new project in Premiere Elements? And does it then fail when you have do the Send of the Slideshow from Premiere Elements?
Or like the original poster on this thread, does it fail only when you attempt to Break Apart the slide show?
And also - have you deleted or moved or renamed any of the photo files or video files included within that slide show?
A more general question - have you previously done any projects successfully in Premiere Elements?

  • I Can No Longer Break Apart Clip Items??

For some reason, I can no longer drag a clip from the browser to the main timeline, then lift and then proceed to break it apart into a video and seperate audio tracks. I was doing this all the time, but now this option seems to have disappeared. I tried repairing permissions... I can access the components of the clip with the "open in new timeline" option after dragging down the maintimeline and lifting, but that still doens't explain why I can't choose or shortcut to break it apart in the main timeline, when lifted, anymore??? Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks,
    Dustin

Dustin, let me know if I haven't understood your post correctly.
You create a new project and set the frame rate to 23.98P
The media in your Events is 30P
From what I understand, your saying that if you drop a 30P clip in a 23.98P project, your unable to Break Apart Clip Items..?
    Works perfectly fine for me.
