HP pavillion or sony e series laptop?

i am looking for a laptop for college. which one is better for light use and worth the price. HP - 15.6" Pavilion Laptop - 8GB Memory - 750GB Hard Drive  special features include backlit keyboard, beats audio system, hd webcam and finger print reader. Sony 15.5" vaio e series laptop 6gb memory- 750gb hard drive special features include Bluetooth; backlit keyboard; HDMI output

This is going to sound like a cop-out, but assuming they're comparably priced, I'd strongly suggest going with whichever one has more comfortable keyboard. Your hands are going to spend a long time on those keys, so having something that you can type on comfortably is a huge plus.
In terms of specifications, both of those machines are more than adequate for light use and the 15.6" screens are going to give you the most value for your dollar (they get more expensive moving in either direction from that point). I would be sure to try closing the screen on 'em both a few times-they're consumer grade laptops, which means the quality of the hardware can vary widely and there are some out there that just don't feel solid.
As far as the brands are concerned, my experience has been that the Sonys tend to be a little more solid but also a little more expensive to repair and replace stuff like chargers. I've had good experiences with HP, but they feel a little lighter to me.
Hope that helps.
I do not now, nor have I have, worked for Best Buy. I have only supported them with a very expensive electronics and musical instrument habit.

Make sure that it is connected to a USB 2.0 port and not a USB 1.1 as 1.1 will not provide power for connectivity.
Try it in a different USB port and see if it works

I have an HP  Pavillion G7 series laptop, On trying to install latest version of Skype, Skype downloads but won't install. Error message "internal error has occured"  code 1603.  My local comp engineer investigated and determined that the Sonix integral camera was not compatible with the latest Skype version. To get Skype to install, the integral camera was disabled which allowed Skype to install but i have to use an external camera. Not always convenient. Does anyone know if a fix for this problem is being addressed ??

I would suggest going back into the recovery manager and doing a system restore (not recovery) back to a previous point where you know it worked.  The other option would be to do a recovery but you will lose all data that is not backed up.

  • How do I install memory into the Pavilion 17z-F2 series laptops?

How do I install memory into the Pavilion 17z-F (17z-F200, product L2H13AV) series laptops?
HP appears to have no maintenance guide available for this model series. What's up with that?
Please, do not offer the generic (and out-of-date) Pavilion 17 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide. It does not appear to apply to the 17z-F series. This guide instructs to remove the bottom service panel which I could have figured that out on my own. However, the 17z-F series does not appear to have any removable panels at all. I took an up-close look at the Pavilion 17z-F100. And, it does not have any removable panels on the underside, except for the battery. So, I presume the 17z-F200 to be the same.
I am a computer technician. And, this is the first laptop I have seen without any service panels. I am probably going to have to disassemble the entire outer-shell to install memory (or to replace the hard disk drive once the time comes). But, every laptop I have worked on in the past had its own special array of hidden screws or special tricks for disassembly. So, having a maintenance guide is a necessity to avoid damaging plastic mounts, clips, guides, etc.
    This question was solved.

    How about this one:
    Pavilion 17z Manual
Don't get me started on this. It's one of my pet peeves, too. HP is not the only one doing this. Acer and Toshiba, etc. also are selling "closed" systems now. I hate it. I will absolutely never knowingly buy one but I am spending a lot of time here answering questions just like this. Good luck and let us know how you do. Sounds like you will be fine.

  • HP DV6000 series laptop - Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger

    Hi,
I am using a hp dv6000 series laptop for last 2 years....  Accidentally, water fell on my laptop and then my laptop itself fell down from the table.
One the first day when I tried restarting it  there was no response ( No power LED no display nothing, no cpu fan etc ...)
I disassembled the laptop, cleaned the RAM hard disk, front bezel, keyboard. I used a hair dryer to dry out any of the moisture. My laptop then started showing some response ... now after 4 days .... it is working all fine except the display...
    The problem is :
    1. The Laptop backlight is not working... (but I can see the display with a external flashlight pointed to screen)
    2. The laptop works fine on battery... but as soon as I connect the power charger... it immediatly shuts down.
Currently because of display problem... I am using the (RDP) windows remote desktop connection from an another laptop to access the desktop.... I logged on from another laptop and checked that all the internal harware parts are working fine.
Also, sometimes suddenly randomly the display backlight starts working fine and goes off randomly.
Please suggest. I seached all the online help but I have found no help on "Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger"...
    thanks.

It sounds like the LCD power inverter has been damaged and would need to be replaced.  As far as the AC adapter/battery issue, I'm not sure.  It sounds like you need to retire this notebook early.

  • HP 3210 printer to Dell Inspiron 7000 series laptop.

Will HP3210 printer effectively connect to the Dell Inspiron 7000 series laptop?
Older model printer works extremely well.  What portals/connections will be neede?
    Thanks!

The Photosmart 3210 can connect either with a USB cable or a network cable.  If you have an available port on your router the network connection may be preferred.
I have a similar setup, the printer is connected to my router with a LAN cable, I access the printer wirelessly from my notebook computer through the router.

  • Advise on tx2z series laptop.

I'm an applications developer.  I run Visual Studio, SQL Server, Virtual PC with 2 VMs as well as Office and some other productivity applications.
My question is on  the tx2z series laptop and how it will perform for me given what I expect to run.  I like the size, in all aspects, of this machine but I'm a bit worried that it will be sluggish.  I'm hoping to get advise based on a couple of the characteristics I have selected in my configuration.
The configuration I'm looking at is:
    Processor = AMD Turion(TM) X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-75 (2.2GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)
    Memory = 4GB DDR2
    Hard Drive = 320GB 7200RPM SATA
    Additional processor options as:
    AMD Turion(TM) X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-77 (2.3GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)
    AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-85 (2.3GHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
    AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-86 (2.4GHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
    AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-87 (2.4GHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
Is the ZM better than the RM processor?  Will the amount of L2 Cache make a big difference?
I'm also looking at the HP dv4t series laptop.  It has Intel processor options with 3 MB L2 Cache.  Also the memory is DDR3 vs. DDR2.  Might that be a better configuration for an applications developer?
Thanks in advance for any advise!

  • Upgraded to 10, How to move from HDD to SSD? (Y-Series Laptop)

Howdy all, I have a Lenovo Y Series Laptop that came with a combo HDD/SSD. I assumed that Windows would be installed on the SSD, leaving the HDD for everything else. Turns out this isn't the case. The SSD is currently at 22.6g free of 24.9, and I'm honestly not sure if it's a totally separate drive, or if it's integrated into the HDD somehow.. I am trying to figure out how to move windows onto the SSD potion of the hard drive, but just want to make sure I'm not forgetting something. I assume I'll have to:Backup any files I want to keep (there are none, just applications I can get again after)Make a Windows 10 Boot Drive on a USBReformat SSDBoot from the USBPerform clean install of Windows 10 on SSD(possible step here of backing up lenovo software?)Reformat HDDRe-install all apps + programsAre there any Particular things that I need to make sure of for Windows 10?Am I forgetting anything? Is this a terrible idea?Is this totally not how my particular hard drive works? Is there a waaaay easier way to do this without possibly destroying everything? Lastly I want to make sure that the Lenovo software stays on the laptop, I assume it'll all go bye-bye if I do a clean install. I tried this once years ago and ended up making the Fn keys stop working, the fan and temperature control goofy, and I think it may even have been haunted.. Any advice or known disastrous things to avoid would be super helpful.

    hi Trosh,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Using the parts lookup page to check the hard drive specs on models 80FA002CUS and 80FA002DUS, those machines are configured with an SSHD (1TB HDD with a built-in 8GB SSD cache).
The 22.6 GB free of 24.9 GB that you're seing is likely the D:\  drive, which is a partition of the 1TB HDD (you can verify this by opening up Disk Management)
As for upgrading to Windows 10:
    1. Ensure that you have a backup copy of your files before upgrading and create a recovery drive just in case.
    2. Before you can clean install Windows 10, you will need to upgrade your current installation (e.g., Windows 8.1) first to Windows 10 and activate. Once this is done, you can proceed in doing a clean install. If you proceed in doing a clean install on first attempt, you may not be able to activate Windows.
You can read more in this article:
How to Activate and resolve common Product key issues in Windows 10
Note that doing a clean install will definitely remove all preloaded apps and drivers, thus, you will need to reinstall them back (some proprietary preloaded apps though doesn't have an Installer due to license limitation)
    3. After upgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, some preloaded apps and drivers may have limited functionality or may not work at all. Thus, you will need to update to the latest Windows 10 drivers (if available).
    More info here:
    https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103611
    4. In case you get issues with the upgrade, you can always refresh Windows 10 or go back to the previous Windows build or by doing a system recovery then re-upgrade.
     - Refresh Windows 10
     - Windows 10 - Go Back to Previous Win1dows
     - Link to picture (select System Recovery)
    5. If you're leaning towards an SSD upgrade (e.g., 256GB or 500GB), you will need to migrate the OS from the SSHD to the SSD and upgrade to Windows 10. If you have already originally upgraded though on the stock drive, you can clean install Windows on the new SSD.
More info before upgrading to Windows 10:
    Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation
Hope the info above answers your questions.
    Regards

I bought a DOS version of the W520 since I already had a copy of Win7, getting support from lenovo's website for drivers are terrible, and I still haven't figured out why my bluetooth adapter isn't being recognized or listed in the device manager. Build quality of the laptop is great, and it's matte black and brushed metal is gorgeous, but the support is a bit lack luster
Brushed metal? you seem to talk about another laptop.
I'm happy with my W510 after having memory module problems that i solved, the screen is great FHD and it's fast and built like a tank.
It is an old fashion conservative laptop, it's not for everyone, but you get what you pay for.
However i do feel Lenovo shouldn't have added USB3 ports to the laptop as they are not supported by BIOS at boot, also i think most manufacturers should drop Displayport as HDMI is standard on all projectors and TVs these days.

  • Sony Vaio CR laptop minor water spill. HELP!

My daughter has a less than 1 year old Sony Vaio CR laptop.  Some water was spilt on the laptop when it was off and now it won't turn on.  Anything I can do other than GS service or manufacturer repair?  How do I know if it is a motherboard damage?  Cause if it is, I might as well just purchase a new one for her, right?

    Oh no,
    gracep!
    Accidents
do happen and hopefully you purchased a Best Buy® Performance Service Plan (PSP) or Geek
Squad® Black Tie Protection Plan with accidental coverage?  These plans won’t cover submersion but the
Accidental plans do cover small spills; manufacturer’s warranties do not cover
spills. Here is a tip for everyone with a keyboard spill.  Immediately remove the plug and slide off the
battery to turn off the power.  Turn it over,
keyboard side down, and open wide like an upside down “V." Place on a towel to dry for
about 24 to 48 hours.  Do NOT use a hair dryer as it will melt sensitive connections. Spill damage can
be instantaneous; there are no guarantees this will fix or prevent
anything.  Ultimately you will need to
bring to a professional such as your local Geek Squad®.  Cases like this tend to end in keyboard replacement
or a whole new computer.  Good luck!

  • Hard drive mounting kit for DV7T series laptop

I recently bought a HP DV7T series laptop from HP.  It has a 2nd hard drive bay so I can increase my storage by adding a 2nd hard drive.  The trouble I am having is actually getting the part needed to mount the drive.  I need the 2 mounting rails and the e-sata cable which is in the kit part number 517639-001.  This kit includes the mounting rails, e-SATA interface cable, and mounting screws. The trouble is HP parts says that the product is not available, but tech support says they can get it for me for $400!?!  That's a 3rd of the price of the laptop and it is only for 2 rails, some screws, and a cable.  Does anyone know where I can get this part?  Or contact information for someone at HP that could help with this.  Parts and tech support did not think the $400 price tag for that was overkill.  I tried asking for a manager, but all the rep would do was put me on hold and "relay" answers.  Final word was I need to contact a 3rd party.  This is a new laptop, less than a week old; I find it hard to believe that HP does not have the part.

You could try Amazon, eBay, CraigsList, etc.  The usual warnings apply:  Check the reseller ratings, don't deal with anyone that does not offer a return policy (don't shop with anyone whose post says "All sales are final"), and pay only with a credit card so that you can reverse charges in worst case scenario.

    hello,
i am planning to ask my friend to order the HP Pavilion Dv6t series laptop from US.i stay in india.wanted to know will i get the services from india if the product is in warranty period.thanks in advance.

From posts I have seen here by others_the answer is no. Only laptops sold in your region are eligible for local warranty service. That would leave you with the need to mail your laptop to someone in US to have it serviced in event of problems.
