HP Pavillion p6120f needs a new graphics card

Will Asus Low Profile NVIDIA GeForce 210 1GB GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card Model: EN210 SILENT/DI/1GD2(LP)
work without requiring a new power supply? Running Windows Vista but may upgrade to Win 7.   Thx!

Hi:
Looking at the reviews for the card at the link below, no one seems to have provided wattages for the PC power supplies they installed the cards in.  That is usually helpful.  However many subjectively state low power requirements.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=14-121-422&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&Pur...
Below is the link to the nvidia specs...they recommend a minimum of a 300 W P/S.
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-210/specifications
I will give you my opinion.  Unless you plan to tax the card often and heavily by throwing whatever games you can at it, I think it will work just fine in your 250W P/C.  The max output of the card is only 30W.
Use this handy tool to calculate the power supply requirements you will need for that card.
I bet it comes in at less than 300W.

  • Need recommendations: New graphics card for HPE-400y

Hi!  I'm in need of a new graphics card, but I don't know which one is best for my computer.  My computer is a Hewlett Packard  HPE-400y.   Click here for specs!
My computers has all the original parts except the PSU and HDD. I recently changed the PSU to a Corsair CX430.  The current hard drive is a WD Caviar Black 2TB.
I use my computer for Guild Wars 2, Maya (models and animation), Zbrush, Corel Painter, and Photoshop.
My current graphics card (Radeon HD 5450) has issues playing Guild Wars 2. The FPS is 30 or lower if I try to play the game with medium or high settings. The FPS also drops when I'm playing the group PVP event known as World Vs World. I often have to have the graphics on the lowest setting in order to get 30 -45 FPS.
You can find the Guild Wars 2 requirements here: GW2 official wiki -- requirements info
Click here for Maya 2015 requirements
Click here for Corel Painter requirements (When you get to the page, click on system requirements)
Any and all help is appreciated!  Thank you in advance for your advice and help!

    Hi,
You should be able to get a double wide card in your PC.  Length may be a problem due to all of the cables. If the space below the optical drive is open then you might try to stuffing the extra cable lengths into that location.
BTW-- very nice photos.  Not many will go through the effort to do so.
Consider trying one of the below graphics.
MSI NVIDIA GTX N750 TI and the MSI GTX N750 TF  Both of these graphics cards are significantly faster then your existing 5450.
Know what the return policy is before your buy.
You have an excellent Corsair power supply. I would prefer that you had a 500 watt PSU so that the higher performing graphics cards could be tried.  This NVIDIA GTX 660 specifies at 450 watt minimum but the 12v amperage from your Corsair CX430 is more than sufficient.  It might be worth giving it a go.  It's about 50% faster than the above two graphics cards.  I typically don't recommend that graphics cards be used with PSUs below the graphics card manufacturer's minimum requirements but the Corsair CX430 should work.

Do I need a different graphics card to run final cut?

No need to worry. You'll be fine with the GPU in your iMac. I've been using a G5 iMac (w/ a second display) since August 2005, and I've had no problems.

  • A dual 2 GHz M9032LL/A G5 needs a new graphics card

I have a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card (ROM revision 113-A13601- 126) in there now, but the card is failing. There's a temperature sensitive element and I need to put a blow dryer on the graphics card to wake it up. After it's up it runs fine, but dealing with it is a pain.
I can't find new Radeon 9600 pro cards. Is there a replacement?
    Regards,
    Ty Ford

    Ty,
Your G5 uses an 8x AGP slot and OWC has ATI Radeon 9600 and X800 cards available.
But, you might also consider checking eBay for flashed PC AGP cards.
And if you are interested in flashed PC cards, check out The Mac Elite forum and Wiki.

  • Now I need a new Graphics card for CS4

    Hi -
So I took the plunge and upgraded to CS4 - then discovered to my annoyance that Matrox aren't bothering ('corporate decision') to write drivers for their AVPE card to support WYSIWYG with CS4. Great, so a £200 card is now on the ebay pile and my 10 year (expensive) relationship with Matrox is over.
Now I'm faced with a problem, I've always had Matrox graphics cards in all my edit machines, the WYSIWYG plugins make things easy and they do work well- or did.
Please can anyone advise me if there's a card out there which will give me the ability to run two monitors as a desktop, and have a feature monitor showing my edit.(all VGA connected) With Production Premium CS4 I'd like 1GB of memory as I'm planning on editing some footage from a RED camera (or trying to) - with the Nvidia or ATI cards - is there software that allows you to set up which monotor does what - and does this plug in to Premiere After Effects Photoshop etc?
I have 2 PCIE slots, and don't mind I suppose having two graphics cards in the machine, will this work, if I insert a for example Nvidia GTX 260 alongside the AVPE will that work, letting the Matrox handle the desktop and the Nvidia the Feature monitor, or would I be better having two GTX 260's ??
I have asked the boffins at PNY if they think this'll work and they say - maybe, though the card will only support certain codecs.....really? they're getting back to me on what those might be.
    My system is
    Supermicro X7DWA N 16 gb ram
    XP pro SP2
    PSU 600watt
monitors are Benq - analogue all VGA
Adobe Production Premium CS4 with Cineform 4K
This is an area that is quite hard to research - none of the manufacturers websites answer the questions that come up and so I have to keep calling up tech support in various different countries, then wait while they go and find out.
I'm hopeful that someone out there has an answer - thanks for reading - any help appreciated
    Billy

    Hello Harm
Thanks for the reply, I was hoping you would, and also hoping that wouldn't be your reply.
I don't want to tie up my camera and have it on full time, just to get less quality than I was getting on the computer monitor as a feature monitor I was getting last week. The quality is really good, and I find it much easier to see for drawing masks etc and for colouring and grading - I guess die to having loads more pixels.
I can't accept that there isn't another solution and so I'm looking for one, even if I have to buy two GTX260's, I'd rather spend the £175 twice (or the extra £175) than have the camera in and out of it's box every time I want to edit and then the cables everywhere, I went tapeless to get away from that and sold a couple of cameras that I could have used.
I'd like to find out if having one nvidia 260 and my lovely obsolete matrox card will work, or if two 260s will give me the result I need, and so in the absence of any person who can tell me, I'll just have to give it a try, annoyingly, my mobo isn't SLI capabole, so I'll be wasting some of the potential of doing this, but may get the system to work again.
Can't express here how annoyed I am with Matrox, if they produced a card tomorrow which could shoot edit and composite award winning material which would keep clients happy from now to eternity for $1 - I wouldn't buy it.
I'll post the results as I go along.
My alternative is to go and buy a 6 foot monitor to use as a desktop.
Can't believe I'm the only person to have fallen foul of Matrox's failure to provide service.

  • I did some updates and now it says I need a new graphics card.

I can no longer open up iMovie and photo booth. How do I know what I need? It Says "imovie requires a graphics card that is compatible with QUARTZ EXTREME. One or more of your graphics cards do not support Quartz Extreme."

You'll have to call 1-800-MYAPPLE and order the Snow Leopard upgrade sic. It's either $19 or $29 (I forget). Apply the update and then make sure that you update to 10.6.8 - the last version of Snow Leopard that was released.
The system info will show whether or not your video card supports Quartz Extereme - I suspect that it does but that you may have a version of iMovie that doesn't recognize it.
    Good luck,

  • Satellite 5100-503 - I need a new graphic card

My Satellite 5100-503 shows garbled image during startup particularly when the computer is warm.
    The sound also breaks.
It was diagnosed as a display card problem. The card has nVidia GeForce4 440 Go chip.
What is the equivalent card available in the market or any reliable source?

    Hi Santos
Thanks for posting this your personal opinion but I have to say that you are simply not right
The Toshiba ASP (authorized service partner) will help you always if you have some hardware problems.
But they will not provide you any disassemble manuals because such manual are not for public usage!
And this is not only Toshiba rules but you will find such rule in every company!
If you need an solution the guys will help you and should be abel to replace the faulty part...
Furthermore your Satellite 5100 is an older notebook and the nVidia GeForce4 440Go graphic card is not weakness.
Every notebook parts can start to malfunction after a long time of usage! This is nothing unusual but simply "real world".
So dont speak about weakness because its simply not right and the nVidia GeForce4 440 Go supports the same quality standard like other different graphic chips
Anyway, if you want to solve this issue then the motherboard (contains the graphic card) must be replaced.

  • Do I need a new graphics card?

Despite calibration, my monitor cannot distinguish subtle whites, greys or creams. I did the white saturation test on http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/white.php and can only see the checkerboard and nothing else.

The graphics card in the iMac is not replacable
The whole motherboard will have to be changed

  • I believe i need a new graphics card

Hi i recently had problems booting up my mac, well those problems were never resolved unfortuantely,
The problems were that when i tried to bopot up my mac os a grey screen appeared and told me to restart my computer, it also appears when i try to boot from disk,
when i try to start bootcamp i get blue spots on the startup screen and explorer says that the graphics card isnt working properly.
After this took out the graphics card and cleaned it, which allowed me to boot up my mac once or twice but then it went back to how it was before.
i took it to my local apple store and they agreed that the graphics card was probably the problem.
I was running an nvidia 8800gt i believe.
If anyone has ideas on how i could remedy this situation it wouyld be greatly appecieated.
Otherwise i was wondering what graphics card you would suggest i buy to replace my old one, i am a student though and so have a limited budget

Good luck. I’ve seen a lot of posts regarding replacing the graphics card in older Mac Pro’s.(take a look here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=410804 (you don’t say which MacPro you have, so I’m making an assumption here). From what I have seen, you are stuck with getting another 8800 (especially if you are running 10.6). Stuck is a relative term here, since that is an excellent card.
I say stuck because the cheapest I’ve seen them is $270. I’am sure someone here has another alternative, but most of them would require “flashing” the card, a procedure that I am not fond of.

  • I need a new graphics card for my iMac Apple will not sell me one so I can repair it myself, help

my graphics card as gone on my iMac Apple will not sell me one so that I can repair it myself, any suggestions

not sure which iMac you have but since the old 24" model the video card is not a separate board but a part of the main board so to fix it you would have to buy a smd gpu chip and solder the smd legs manually few people can manage such  feat the only leg compatible gpu chips would work of cause in which case it would be more of a nvidia or amd having to sell you the gpu chip then apple as apple don't make gpu chips

  • Need a new Graphics Card

My GeForce 8800 GT is toast it seems. It has been very flaky since the last OS update and then Apple supposedly fixed the issues with the graphics update. It seemed to improve, but after a week or so I cant even use the card. It crashes the machine hard after startup 100%.
I tried it in Boot Camp with the latest Nvidia drivers for Windows 7 and a similar result, so Im guessing it its the card and not Apple's driver for OSX.
That said, I want to get a new card. But Im not sure whats the best *AND MOST STABLE* in the 10.6.4 environment.
I have a 30" Cinema Display and my Mac Pro specs are listed below. I do a lot of Photoshop workd (CS5), but I also run games like Starcraft II and Final Fantasy XIV in Boot Camp.
Anyone out there know whats the best card currently? Much appreciated!

Nothing really wrong with it, except that it is half of the 5870 and equal to or a bit slower than the 4870.
The price, and availability, is good however.
What I really have against the 5770, is that it is (as usual) a lower end, standard card for a professional grade machine.
The 5870 is now a mid level card, being last years high end card.
I figure that if one is going to upgrade, it should have some future proofing to it.
Having said that, the 4870 is yesterdays news......
One thing that the 5770 has going (in PC circles) is in a Crossfire setup, the 5770 pair is faster than the 5870.
Same said for a pair of 4870's.
Of course, Crossfire is still only a Windows function, as Apple doesn't think that we need it in OS X.....
Flashed 4870's seem to work pretty well, so there is always that option....
Here's one take on comparison (25 pages of tests) from last year:

  • I have the color wheel for a long time. do i need a new graphics card?

help i'm not sure what to do

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Which New Graphic Card For 2008 Mac Pro?

I'm going to buy Final Cut X, so I'll need a new graphic card for my 2008 MacPro. My current card is an ATI Radeon HD 2600.
I asked AppleCare and they sent me a link to a lot of compatible cards (copied below).
But it turns out that most of these cards need Windows - at least according to specs - and the rest don't have the (2) DVI-D connections I need - so which card should I buy?
    The card has to work with my 2 Acer P243W 24" screens at 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz.
    Here's Apple's list:
    •    NVIDIA
    o    GeForce 320M
    o    GeForce GT 330M
    o    GeForce 9400M
    o    GeForce 9600M GT
o    GeForce 8600M GT  Note: OpenCL compatible, but does not meet system requirements for Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5 and Compressor.
    o    GeForce GT 120
    o    GeForce GT 130
    o    GeForce GTX 285
    o    GeForce 8800 GT
    o    GeForce 8800 GS
    o    Quadro FX 4800
    o    Quadro FX5600
    •    ATI
    o    Radeon HD 4670
    o    Radeon HD 4850
    o    Radeon HD 4870
    o    Radeon HD 5670
    o    Radeon HD 5750
    o    Radeon HD 5770

Once you look at what is sold, limits the list. None of those listed require Windows though. What specs? I don't see any specs. And of course nothing listed are Windows, that would be strange. Why you pasted notebook and iMac graphic adapters... unless Apple is selling FCPX for Windows.
Forget the GT120 though some use it with FCPX and are okay with it, save a little though I think 5770 has more processing, bandwidth and of course 1GB DDR5.
support for 6870 PC card is looking like a possible option now, too.
It is more mainly just 5770 vs 5870. Or Quadro 4000.
Amazon has PNY Mac Pro edition $790 vs Apple's $1195 for same card

Flashed PC Radeon HD5870 Mac Pro 2008
Flashed PC Radeon HD5870 Mac Pro 2008 - dual DVI works
I include the above for same reason why when the 4870 came out, PC card was 1/2 price and $450 for 5870? really? when XFX and Saffire are under $199.

  • Need help on new graphic card purchase

    Dear Apple users,
I am looking for a graphic card to replace an older one. I have searched high and low but have no idea which cards are compatible.
My existing graphic card which came with my G4 MDD is the Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti (256mb). I am looking for something with an equivalent specification or higher, but since my monitor is still the old 15" widescreen (got that when I purchased the G4 Cube back in 2000), only graphic cards with HDMI support are compatible. Which basically means if I need to replace my monitor as well, I'd still have to get a graphic card.
I was told that newer graphic cards only have DVI ports instead.
Do I just get any graphic card with DVI port, or must it be something more specific for the Macintosh? What about AGP or PCI Express? I am not familiar at all with these =(
For example, if I get the GeForce 7600 GT, will it work? Or do I have to be more specific and get the GeForce 7600 GT for Macintosh?
Thank you for your recommendations and advice beforehand. If there is any information I haven't provided that may be useful, please do not hesitate to post and I will get back as soon as possible.
    Regards.

    Hi,
First things first. No apple display has ever shipped with HDMI support. Are you sure you are not referring to ADC?
    It looks like this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AppleDisplayConnector.jpg
Does your display look like this?
    http://www.everymac.com/images/monitorpictures/apple_studiodisplay15.jpg
If so it definitely is ADC.
Secondly, unfortunately all the latest video cards do not support ADC, you will have to buy an adapter which costs $99 from the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=M86 61LL/B
Your Power Mac only features an AGP slot (not PCI-E found on the latest PCs and Mac Pro). The video card you buy must be a Mac compatible AGP card.
A good card compatible with your Mac would be the 9800 Pro mac edition:
    http://www.amazon.com/ATI-Radeon-9800-Video-100-435058/dp/B000BJBCGG
The 9600 Pro is also a good card, not as good as the 9800 Pro of course.
    http://www.amazon.com/ATI-Radeon-9600-PRO-Mac/dp/B000JFKZPQ
Both cards would be a significant upgrade over your current one.
    Good Luck!
