HP Photosmart 1000

I really like this printer.  I does great photograph prints.  However I bought two (2) new Compaq laptops for me and my wife.  Never did I think that Compaq which is a HP product would not write drivers for one of their own laptops to work with one of their printers.  Yes sadly I was foolish enough to buy a Compaq laptop for me and one for my wife with Vista operating system.  But I am still upset that I have to jump through hoops to use my photo printer.  I have to download my photo to a thumb drive and then use my old HP Pavillion to print them out.  I'm at the point that I feel HP has stabbed me in the back for being a loyal customer.  Yes I have only bought HP both desktop and laptops since 1996.

First of all, it wouldn't be Compaq not writing a driver for the computers to support an HP product. Drivers are written for the  device, not the computer. So, more properly, this situation is that HP has not written an updated Printer driver for this product.
The reason behind this... I see this particualr printer was relased in 1999 and support for it was discontinued a little over 5 years ago. Since Windows 7 (I'm assuming is what you have on the new computers) came out long after the end of support on this product, there are not and probably will not ever be Windows 7 drivers for this printer.
That being said, the previous solution provided should work just fine for basic funtionality. You should be able to print, but will have few settings and options available.
The better solution, in my opinion... Upgrade! There are some great new photo printers out there that are lightyears ahead of the PS 1000. It's been 12 years since this printer came out, and technology moves and improves fast. I"m sure there's something out there that will work even better for you, and anything on the shelf now will support Windows 7 right out of the box.
While I am an HP employee, I am not a expert on all our products. If I offer advice, I'm not speaking for HP on how to solve an issue, but I'll do my personal best to help you.

    Hi!
Please try these steps: 1. switch on the printer.
    2. open the cartridge door- if the carriage still not moving---unplug the power cord from the printer- leave the cartridge door open then manually move the carriage to the far right side of the printer...

  • HP Photomart 1000 Deskjet Printer Problems

Previously through HP Support I was able to use my old faithful and super-reliable HP Photosmart 1000 printer on Vista (32bit) with this driver installed on Vista.  It was the HP 970Cse and it worked flawlessly.  But now, just getting an "error" message when trying to print a test page.  Anyone have any more ideas?  Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling this and other printer drivers that I use regularly.   Please Help!  I don't want to donate this one to the landfill yet!!

Actually the Deskjet 970 drivers are a better match for the Photosmart 1000.  The Deskjet 990 drivers should work for text but will probably fail for photo's and some graphics.
What happens when you try to print - are there any error messages?  Does the printer go through any motions of trying to print?
Is the printer connected with USB or a parallel port?  If the printer is connected with a USB port it would probably be USB001: or USB 002:, see the document here.  For a parallel port the likely port would be LPt1:.
How are you printing a test page?  To start I would use Notepad and try a simple text document.

  • HP1000 PhotoSmart driver for Windows 7?

Does anybody know of software for a Photo Smart P1000 that will work on my Dell Inspiron Laptop with Windows 7?
I purchased my printer in 2000.  It still works great!

    Hello azrockhound99,
I understand you are looking for software to get the Photosmart 1000 working on your Windows 7 PC. I have looked into this for you. There isn't any software for you printer available to download. To get this printer working on the computer you may want to try following this document: Installing the Printer with an Alternate Driver in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection.
For the alternate print driver I would suggest using the Deskjet 9800 based on your OS version.
Please let me know how you make out.

i can't download my hp photosmart 1000, I have tried to update driver does anyone have suggestion, I am operating a windows xp  thanks

    Nana,
Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
You might check and see if you must uninstall any existing printer program first.
Perhaps the existing printer program is getting in the way of the new driver installation?
    FIRST:  Create a Restore Point:
Restore Point XP  OR  Create a Restore Point – Win7  OR  Create a restore point Win8
If you wish to remove any existing printer program:
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
In the Currently installed programs box, click the program that you want to remove, and then click Remove.
    ===========================================================================
There are the main Driver and an Update that is actually for an older Driver version than that of the Main Driver (3.5).   I do not think you need that Update, in other words.
    Main Driver - Version 3.5
HP Photosmart Printer Software and Driver
Download file to your hard drive.
Go to the file and double-click it. Choose unzip.
With the printer disconnected from the system, select Install hp photosmart printer series software and follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Error -9672 When Printing

I am trying to add an HP PhotoSmart All-in-One C3180 printer that is connected to my Aiprort Extreme. It will show up in the Printer Set-up utility, but when I click on Add it returns an erro -9672. I can connect the printer to the USB on the MacBook and everything works just fine.
Is there a step that I am missing?

    Received response from HP:
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care. I Understand you are getting an
error 9672/ We normally see this error when customer try to install this
printer on a wireless network. If this is the case, please try the
    following:
(If not, please let me know how you have the printer connected to the
    computer)
The C3180 is not an HP supported networkable printer. HP supports this
printer "Full Functionality" USB direct connect from the printer to the
MAC. Apple supports "Print Only" functionality from the printer to the
    airport.
HP released a print only driver last week that should resolve your
issue. Uninstall the HP software currently on your computer using the hp
    uninstaller (Hard Drive > Applications > Hewlitt-Packard > HP
Uninstaller), then download and install the print only drivers from
HP.com. Once the software is installed, open the Printer Setup Utility
(Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > Printer Setup Utility) and add
    the printer.

If that fails try the workaround below.
    Possible Workaround
As a work around for the C3100/C4100 units connected via USB to an
Airport base station try the following:
    1. Install the software.
    2. Quit the HP Setup Assistant.
    3. Open the Printer Setup Utility and select the printer.
    4. Change "Print Using" to the HP/Hewlitt-Packard and select the
Photosmart 1000 (P1000) and then click Add.
This should give basic print functionality only . This workaround is
offered on a non-supported "best effort" basis so if it doesn't work
they need to connect it directly to the computer.
    5. If this works, you will have print only functionality. The HP setup
assistant will launch each time you restart your computer, you can
simply quit the program, or delete the setup assistant.
To delete it Click on Hard drive > Library > Preferences >
Hewlitt-Packard Preferences > and click and drag the
"com.hp.setupassistant.plist" file to the trash. Empty the trash.
Note: If you want to scan, you will need to uninstall the software, and
reinstall it. The printer will need to be directly connected USB from
    the printer to the Mac.

    results.
I want to use the scanner so I guess I will connect directly to the MacBook. Thanks for your help.

  • HP Deskjet Woes

I am not having much luck with my Deskjet 952C printer and the new Airport Extreme Base Station. The printer is recognized when I plug it in to the USB port. I can add the printer from the printer setup utility on all the computers on my LAN without any problem. Sometimes I can print correctly to the printer, sometimes it times out. I'm only trying to print a one sentence test document, nothing overwhelming. The printer turns itself off after a while. If an attempt is made to print to the printer while it is off, the printer will turn itself on but will not print and the base station seems to lose the ability to print to it. I then need to restart the base station, reconnect the printer, and if I'm lucky it'll print. Even after I get it to print succesfully from one computer, I'll get a timeout error from another computer one minute later. It all seems so random and bad.
Does the printer ALWAYS need to be turned on before attempting to print with the base station? This is not as sillly as it sounds. The HP print server that the printer was connected to previously would automatically turn the printer on and print the job. The problem is that if someone attempts to print to the printer when it is not turned on, it will turn on but then time out. The printer will no longer work correctly from this point unless I powercycle the base station, reconnect the printer, etc. Even then, printing remains hit or miss... Is this all an issue with the 7.1 firmware update? Are there any current inkjet printers that work well with 7.1? Was 7.0 better and how do you downgrade, if possible?

I have a new HP D1360 conected via USB to a new ariport xtreme_11.n
A PC laptop running XP is conected to it via wireless and IT CAN PRINT to the hp printer. MY G5, wich is conected to the airport xtreme via ethernet, cannot. I have tried different ways -installing hpijs drives, unpluggin, etc. creating a new printer in osX....but nothing seems to work. The printer is recognized when adding a new printer, but when it is selected to print with HP Deskjet 4.0.1 it keeps giving me the error: -9672. No other printing driver is workin (nor Gimp beta2, not even the recomended HP Photosmart 1000)
.... SO I guess IT IS NOT AN UNCOMPATIBILITY PROBLEM BETWEEN HP AND AIRPORT EXTREME, BUT IN THE MAC_OS X DRIVERS (...) Is someone at apple taking care of this?

  • "waiting for device"

I have tried to print from my MacBook to my HP Photosmart 1215 without consistent success. I'm most likely to get the following error message "GenericClass: waiting for device." I downloaded the latest HPPhotosmart_Installer10.2-10.4.dmg, which eventully gives me a choice between Photosmart 1000 and 1100 Gimp-Print 5.0.0 beta drivers. (I chose the Photosmart 1100.) When I hit print, it starts the Gimp-Print driver, says it has reached 18% of the document, and stalls with the "waiting" message mentioned above. How do I get this all to work together? Thanks, Tom.

    Whoa -- slow down.
Do not attempt to install any new version of CUPS - that is already part of OS X and if you try to update that you will be sorry!
The linux-foundation files are STANDARD, OS X .DMG installer files -- don't do any compiling or even think about Unix when you download them and install them.
If in fact you are just trying to print with the printer directly connected via USB, I don't know why you are doing any of that. That is what the HP driver was designed for. Let's just try some generic OS X printing fixes:
Delete and re-ADD the printer(s) in Printer Setup.
    Repair permissions (Disk Utility).
Reset Printing System (new in Tiger) - In Printer Setup, click this menu item found just above Quit Printer Setup.
Download the Combination Updater from Apple, use it to re-Update OS X.
Try Printer Setup Repair from www.fixamac.net.
Use a Disk Utility like Disk Warrior to repair the HD -- or, put in your install DVD and restart while holding the c key. DO NOT start the installer - instead, find Disk Utility in the top (Finder) menus and use it to repair the hard drive.

  • Printer photo smart 7460

I'm trying to print invitations which are heavy stock cards. I keep getting the message that the paper size or quality is mismatched. There is no option for heavy stock on this printer, Why?

If this is the Photosmart 1000 that uses the #78 and #45 cartridges then I would suggest using the Deskjet 970 driver from Vista.

  • HP photosmart p 1000

My photosmart p 1000 has worked like a trooper for years. Recently, the color ink stopped working. B&W works properly but it simply wont print in color. COlor cartridge shows 90% full, its inserted properly (as evidenced by the fact that the toolbox reads the print levels).
I ran the calibration function and test page...both printed in B&W. All print settings seem to be correct (its not set for grey scale, for example)
    Using a windows xp computer.
    Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks

can i upgrade VGA removable card for HP Pavilion dm4t 1000 ?

T2, you don't mention how much system memory that you have installed.  Windows 7 will run best with 3GB of memory.  Also, integrated memory is always lacking in any games.  The 128MB is not allocated at one time.  It is only used as needed.  If you want to play games, you should upgrade your memory and upgrade to a standalone video card.  I don't believe that a driver update will make any difference.

  • Photosmart 8230. How do you Remove the print heads for cleaning?

Hi guys, I have a Photosmart 8230. After a few lines of printing the black ink fades to almost nothing, all the colours are perfect. There are no error messages. I have done the self cleaning and alignment procedures and wasted a lot of expensive ink. The test page comes out with streaks on the black only. It has been suggested that I take the print head out and immerse it in hot water as a last resort. The question is, how do I remove the printhead? or should I use it as a sea anchor!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I just did this to a HP Photosmart 8250 which is in the 8000 series range. I assume they are similar. I was an appliance repair man and have done a lot of other tings in my life, so I decided to take a shot at repairing my 8250 rather than junk it. For 3 Years it was great, only one paper jam, and fast great photos, so I didn't want to give up on it. HP will not repair printers for us, I think because it is too labor intensive, and they can sell a new one for what it would cost.
I actually fixed my HP Photostat 8250. Its working but the color printing is not as good as it was, yet, but I am hoping that will improve as all of the colored inks work their way through the system.
Taking one of these apart and putting it back together is like a Chinese puzzle, so its appropriate that they are made in China. Most of the parts inside can be easily damaged if you are not careful. The covers have very clever ideas to their design and how they snap in place. Take your time with the covers and use small tools.
Getting it back in working condition is another matter. There is a 6 circuit pump and more than a few feet of tubing. I had the side covers off while I tested it and this pump seems to work in both directions. This pump is inside the left side cover. There is another motor with a timing wheel of some kind that stops and starts in both directions at the same time the printhead carriage is whipping back and forth printing. There are other motors also. These things are ingenious. It is surprising that I bought it for less than $100 on sale. It looks like a $1000 piece of equipment inside.
It would probably be a good idea to not remove the left side cover, but if you do, be very careful around the clear timing wheel. it looks delicate. Below is from an email I sent to a friend and I am revising it to make sense. Remember this is something that really requires training to do this, but I see people today that have the guts to tackle all sorts of projects, so for what its worth, and you asked.
Under the right side cover is a motherboard, with a bunch of cables plugged into it, small, larger and even ribbon cables. I found it necessary to remove the motherboard. I had a bit of experience working on Canon printers and I would also suggest you take digital pictures as you go so you can view them on your PC. I am also going through this because I don't like being told we can get anything repaired correctly today, its ridiculous that these printers have become just more throwaways. If you want to do this, as a guide, I must have spent 8 to 10 hours doing this, but now I could do it again in 2, that is the learning process.
Once you get the top off the printer, you will see the printhead carriage. The carriage will be to the right side. The printhead is retained by two screws at the front, (take pictures) a spring clip at the rear and two screws that hold a plastic cover over the six ink hoses that plug into the printhead, its a manifold strip affair. You have to unplug the manifold to remove the printhead, but now I am not 100% sure its necessary to remove the printhead? The ink gunk you will see after you move the printhead to the left is no doubt most of the problem.
Probably after the hot water treatment as described below, the built in printhead cleaner will be able to resume cleaning the printhead, after the hot water cleans the gunk from IT.
I removed the printhead like I say below, but first do this. Under the printhead there is a little carriage with a patch of foam rubber that cleans the print head nozzles. This little device works back and forth while cleaning, but while it is parked, with the printer off, it is forward and you won't be able to move the printhead. Use a flashlight to be sure and you will see how to push the cleaner carriage  to the rear and then move the printhead carriage to the left. THEN, you will see the gunky ink mess that has accumulated. This gunky mess I think is the main problem. There are also some felt pads below the cleaning device to absorb some of the ink gunk. I don't know how the HP techs do this, but I used the hot water method below, I had nothing to lose. I would move the printhead first and then you can decide about removing it. I would make sure not to get any of the electronics wet and why I removed the motherboard and why I say take photos. Its hard enough to remember where the different screws alone go, when you are doing this. It can be done, mine is working, even if not perfectly, YET.  You need to be very careful with your fingers, because it is hard to find space to hold onto the printer and whay it might be a good idea to not remove the left side.
They are so complicated, its just a matter of time before they get gunked up with ink and the printhead begins floating in the mess. I had nothing to lose so I removed the printhead, carefully, taped up all the hoses so they didn't dry out, Then I removed the motherboard to keep it from getting wet, THEN I held the messy ink end under the HOT water in the laundry tub and flushed out enough ink to dye a bathtub full of water. The hot water worked well. Then I let it all dry out. There are some delicate procedures to all of this and it takes time. I think that is why its very hard to find anyone to fix them. Its labor intensive and probably why HP won't repair them.  The print section is the problem, and why I won't buy an All in One printer, Fax, and Scanner. I do buy the extended warranty's now. If you tackle this, take your time, take photos, and good luck. By the way, the 8250 uses O2 print cartridges, is that the type of printer you have, but a lot of this applies to other printers and other brands, and I bet I am not the only one to do this. Before I started this the diagonstics showed no problems, so I assumed it was the the ink aspect of the printer, and not an electronic of mechanical problem. I hope this helps.

  • Photosmart C4795 won't print (most of the time)

I have a Photosmart C4795 installed on two computers, one with XP, the other Vista. The installation(with the Vista computer) went smoothly, along with all tests and some documents of my own, and on the XP one. After a few months it started giving me a "paper not found issue". I discovered I needed to push hard enough to get the paper in far enough, but not too far. Now (on the XP computer) it says its printing, pulls in the paper and then sits until I get an error message on my computer. I went through all the guided solutions and none worked. The XP computer is an HP Mini 1000, and updating HP doesn't change anything.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I managed to get it working by sending the document a second time, then cancelling the errored print job on my computer, and after it was cancelled on the computer cancelling on the printer. The moment the paper ejected I placed it on the paper tray at a point an inch away from where I was told to in the animations. Then it started on the second print job and worked (it stopped because I only had one page, but resumed when I placed the paper at the same spot and pushed OK.) If the whole problem was in fact where I was placing the paper I wish the animations would show proper positioning.
If anyone needs assistance or clarification on how I made it work again please reply.
