HP Photosmart 2600

My photosmart 2600 won't print a 4" x 6" photo on 4 x 6 photo paper, even after selecting the right paper size and the desired photo size.    But I can print the same photo (in a 4 x 6 size) on a 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper.  I have completely uninstalled the printer then re-installed it with no luck.   Even trying the latest drivers from on-line, currently I can't find my original install cd.   I have also used different photo programs to send the picture - with no luck to the printer.  When I click "print"  it seems to go to the printer - but never seems to get there.  There are no print jobs occurring or waiting.  I am using a HP 6610- computer, win7 64

  • HT3669 HP states the mac 10.8 app for a photosmart 2600 will not support scanning, yet on the mac page it says it does. Anybody know?

I tried to scan with my old hp photosmart 2600 and it would not work. Prints fine. Called HP and they stated Apple elected not to give us the capability to scan with this unit with the 10.8 version. Yet, when I check on the apple web site, it says I can scan. Anybody know?

I don't have this model so I cannot confirm this, but I have to say that what the HP support told you is a load of rubbish. It is up to HP to make a scanning utility that works on 10.8. So if this model is a few years old then HP may have decided not to release scanning support for 10.8. The reason would not have had anything to do with Apple electing not to give them the capability.
But if the Apple KB article shows a scanning driver for your model, then this is known as an ICA driver and is designed to work with Image Capture and Preview that are included with OS X. So if you have this printer connected to the Mac via USB cable and you open Image Capture, does the HP appear in the list of devices in the left column of this application?

  • Lost long time connection to HP photosmart 2600

I have been using an HP Photosmart 2600 all in one with my airport for 3 years with out a problem. Since the last security update and update of my airport software I have not been able to reestablish a connection between printer and airport. I have the latest software. Have tried every trick and tip on this site. HP wanted 65 dollars to chat with me and suggested I buy a new HP printer. The thing is, this set up has worked fine for years. Any ideas. My printer in not listed as one on the HP printer options but it used to be there under other. I cannot figure how to get it back. Printing via usb is fine and airport is fine. I have been patient and worked on this for 2 weeks before posting. Any thoughts?

I could not add my hp laserjet 2600dtn because the default automatic set up could not find the configuration. It would just spin trying to add the printer, but not ever actually do anything. I hit on the manual set up and then selected any additional features for my printer. Then hit the add printer. Other suggestions, since I do not know what you have already tried are; 1. select a generic IP configuration? 2. go to cups.org find the driver for your printer and add it to your list of printer drivers. Then repeat the system preference printer set up. I was able to add an old scanner using this method. Hope this helps, as it is frustrating to have a perfectly good printer not work with your set up. I have found over the years that HP does not always play nice whether it is Microsoft or Apple. My next printer will most likely be another brand.

  • Hp photosmart 2600 series no longer recognized by network

I have a Photosmart 2610 all-in-one printer that periodically becomes unrecognized by the network. It is connected directly via ethernet to a router, along with an Officejet 6500 E709n printer.
Occasionally, the printer "disappears" from the network, or appears offline, and  I have to turn it off and back on for the network to recognize it, but sometimes, I actually have to physically unplug the power for 10 secs, and plug it back in for it to become recognized.  Never have the problem with the Officejet 6500, which is also wired, instead of wireless.
What is causing this? Is anyone else having this problem? This happens on Win XP sp3, Win7 and Win8. I have the most current drivers downloaded directly from HP on each machine, and am stumped. It is an easy fix, just seems pointless...
I am using a Cisco Linksys E2000 router attached to a cable modem, if that helps...

I am sorry to hear that you lose communication via an Ethernet connection with this printer.  I know of two things that could cause this.  You may have enabled "Scan to Computer" which is turned on in Solution Center (probably from all of your computers).  When the computer scans for a function from the printer, sometimes it can cause it to lose communication.  I suggest turning that feature off.  You can always turn it back on when you need it.
The second thing that can cause this is the router is in need a firmware update too.  Contact your internet service provider for information on how to do that.
Here is a document that discusses what to do if your printer keeps losing communication:
    --Printer is Offline--
Also, you may want to set a static IP even though it is connected via Ethernet (wired).  I have found this helps a lot.  Here are instructions for how to do that on a similar model of printer.
I hope this helps.  If not, what is the printer's IP address?

  • Photosmart 2600

    HI,
as i updated to SL i didn't know that HP drivers are included. I recognized that there is a knew scan-tab in the printer settings, but i didn't know that i can't use the hp manager. So i instaled the hp app again.
Now i know that this all dosent work.
I now have uninstalled all my hp programms. I made the software update, got the drivers for my hp 2610. The printer works, but i can't scan. I tried many things uninstalling the printer in "printer & fax", restored the whole printing system and added the printer again, but i still have no idea how i can get the scan-tab...
I checked many postings here but i haven't seen any solution for 2600 series. So i hope it makes sense to open a knew posting for this series. Makes me nuts that I'd seen the scan-tab before installing the hp manager. Sounds all like I got a windows system.
    Thx Tobias

?? Should i do the same thing you've written here?

    Norber,
To completely manually uninstall all the HP drivers and get to a clean state to try over again delete all of the following files:
    1) Delete anything that starts with hp from /System/Library/Extensions.
    2) Delete /Library/Application Support/Hewlett-Packard.
    3) Delete anything that starts with hp in /Library/Frameworks.
    4) Delete anything from /Library/Image Capture/Devices, Support, and TWAIN Data Sources that have anything that starts with HP.
    5) Delete /Library/Printers/hp.
    6) Delete all the files from /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources that start with HP (or if you only have HP printers, delete /Library/Printers/PPDs
    7) Make sure the is nothing that starts with com.hp in /Library/Preferences.
    8) If you have a fax device, and didn't delete the whole PPDs folder, delete all the folders in /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources that have anything HP related inside.
There you have it, the more then complete guide to cleaning everything off of your drive and getting to a clean state to install the HP drivers again.

  • 2600 Photosmart on Windows 7- Update or fix for XP disc?

Hi, I want to install the 2600 Photosmart software  that stops compatibility with XP on a Windows 7 laptop. Can I?  Is there an update of the software?
    This question was solved.

    Hi @woolysmissus,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you want to install the HP Photosmart 2600 software that stops compatibility with XP on a Windows 7 laptop.
If you had XP and you upgraded to Windows 7. Before installing the new software, I would uninstall the old software first. Uninstalling the Printer Software.
After uninstalling you can download the Windows 7 software using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Also you can always find any of your printer's drivers that is currently available at this website. HP Photosmart 2610 All-in-One Printer Drivers.
Hope this is what you are looking for, and have a nice day!

  • New iMac can't find photosmart 2610 over network -- HELP

Just got a new iMac 24" 2.8gig with Leopard. Most of the setup went fine, but the computer steadfastly refuses to see my printer over the wireless network. It is an HP Photosmart 2610.
I have used the same printer wirelessly with a MacBook Pro with no problem -- it found it right away, though that was with Tiger (it still worked after it was upgraded to Leopard). It also works great with 3 Windows WP PC's, two wirelessly and one via ethernet.
My Router is a Cisco 800 series and I use a Cisco WAP. The iMac had no problem connecting to the WAP and Internet.
The core problem is the iMac doesn't acknowledge that the printer exists. It doesn't find it automatically and when I direct it to the correct IP is still doesn't find it. Also, Leopard doesn't seem to have the driver for it. When I search for drivers from the pull-down after entering the IP I get a bizillion HP options including many Photosmart's. But the lowest model # without a letter in front of it is the 3300.
I then tried downloading the dirver from HP. It said it installed successfully but still didn't show the driver from the pull-down. When I tried used "other" and directing it straight to the driver it would act like nothing happened and come back to the same pull-down without the 2610 as a choice. I also tried installing HP's entire all-in-one software suite for 10.5. It installed sucessfully but also doesn't see the printer.
I tried temporarily moving the iMac and connecting it to the 2610 via USB. It suddenly found it no problem -- both the iMac software and the HP software. And it worked fine... The moment it was back via network, it doesn't find it despite it still working fine from every other device in the household.
Not sure what there is left to try. It is not an option to permanently have it connected by USB. I spoke with HP and they say that because it works from every other device. They say it is an Apple issue. Apple says it must be an HP driver issue points me back to HP. So I am left in limbo with no functional printing capacity.
I've tried searching the Internet for any reports on this but can't find them. Others seem to be successfully using the 2610, though it is unclear if others were using it via the Network.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I am beginning to wonder if HP ceased supporting the network functionality in their 10.5 driver update but I can't get an answer on this.
    Thanks.

To be specific, since the Apple Printers and Faxes function does not find it in the "Default" list, I select "IP" and then enter the valid IP address that I know to be for the printer. I have tested it multiple times from other devices to confirm the IP address and even printed a network diagnostics page from the printer to confirm it. I even had someone else review it for typos just to cross every base...
It then accepts it as a "valid" IP address and assigns it a "Generic Postscript Printer." I then chose the pull down for "other" drivers. I just checked again. There is no driver called "HP IP". There are hundreds of HP drivers those. I am looking for the HP Photosmart 2600 series. But the lowest series they list is the HP Photosmart 3100 series.
Again, I have covered all the bases I can think of. The Apple site lists the 2600 series as an included driver in Leopard but it isn't showing up. The HP site lists the 2610 as "Leopard ready." I have downloaded and run the OX 10.5 HP 2600 series driver executable from HP and it says it was successful (tried several times). I also downloaded and installed the entire stupid 400-and-something MB software "all-in-one" software suite for the 2600 series from HP. You can run its own setup program indpependent of the Apple one and it doesn't find it either. When you enter the IP is says it found no printer and refuses to continue the setup. I have turned the printer on and off many times and checked all the connections. I have confirmed that the other PC's in the household are in fact seeing it at that IP...
I have spoken with Apple Tech Support ("it must be an HP driver issue, sorry") and HP tech support ("it must be a problem with your Mac because it works for others... but perhaps we can sell you a new printer that should work better" (no kidding, they actually tried to do this!).
On principle (and practical) grouns I am reluncant to get a new printer when the one I have works perfectly well for everything accept this Mac. But I am totally out of options unless someone can help.

  • HP Photosmart 2610 All-in-One, Manual Two-Sided Printing, HP e-mail support Ticket no: 8028153835

HP e-mail support, Ticket no: 8028153835
I purchased my HP Photosmart 2610 all-in-one printer in 2005. It was previously installed on a HP Laptop, Windows XP, and all the features worked.
It is now on a PC running Windows Vista Ultimate 32. When I tried installing the printer software CD, it wouldn't load because of the Vista OS. I then loaded the HP Photosmart 2600 series full feature printer driver (Vista OS compatible) from the following HP website link:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-47754-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...
Now I cannot get the Printing Preferences to allow Manually Duplexing (two-sided) printing. This option was available on the original printer software.
I've tried the solutions on: HP Image Zone Help / Two-Sided Prints which indicate:  Click the Finishing tab / In the Document options area / select the Print on both sides check box (this box is not available).
When I run the printer from the Control Panel as Administrator, the printer Properties / Device Settings show Manual Duplexing: Enabled.  When I go to the printer Properties / Advanced / Printing Defaults, neither the Finishing / Print On Both Sides check box is available nor will the Printing Shortcuts tabs allow the Print On Both Sides option to appear (only shows Print On Both Sides: Off).
HP e-mail support told me to install this patch to correct the problem:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-69848-1&cc=us&lc=en&...
When I try installing the patch, it won't load because it wants the original CD software. So I'm back to my initial problem of trying to load the original printer software that won't load because the CD is for Windows XP OS. I am at an impasse between the Software CD that I have, and what is available on the HP website.
    What is your solution?

The driver is supplied through Windows Update.  Go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, then select Windows Update.  It will take a few minutes to update the list, then the Deskjet 6500 series will be a choice under HP (not Hewlett-Packard).

  • Not printing unless I reboot....?

I'm having a printing problem and would appreciate any help in sorting this out.
My printer will not print but when I reboot it prints the jobs in the queue...I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and software but this hasn't helped
    Thanks!

  • Airport extreme and HP printer over ethernet problem

I'm new here, so forgive me if this topic has been done to death. I'm running airport extreme and have an HP photosmart 2600 connected to it via ethernet. My wife has no trouble printing with her Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard), but my daughter's older iMac only prints very intermittantly and mostly not at all.I've tried all the sharing options and reinstalling/updating the HP software, but no luck. The printer is at the other end of the house from the Airport, so connecting via usb is not an option. Any assistance much appreciated, thanks.

Using Ethernet should give the best results, plus it allows the use of more than just the print function, which USB would not. Proof of that should be the fact that this older HP model (it works with OS 9!!!) works well with your recent Mac's Snow Leopard OS.
If the iMac has OS X 10.5.8, the correct printer driver should have already been installed and no further update would have been needed. All that should have been needed was to open the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences and add the HP printer as the iMac's default printer.
When the iMac was first unable to print using the HP, did you consider any chance that the iMac was too far from the Extreme, or that there might have been some interference involved? Did you power cycle starting with the modem? When power cycling is necessary, printers seem to throw off unexplainable errors (such as out of paper or ink, paper jam - when none of these is true).

    Hi mariee,
    Thank you for the update.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? If you could post them that would be appreciated. I have included a post by AlwaysNeon that explains how to add a picture/screen shot to your post.
If you didn’t run the Print and Scan Doctor did you get any messages while working through the 'Ink System Failure' or a '0x...' or a 'C2...' Error Message Displays on the Front Panel document? If so, at what step did you receive the error message and what did it say?
Out of curiosity, what type of USB cable are you using? I have included a screen shot of a printer style USB cable. Would you please confirm that the USB cable you are using has the different ends as per the picture?
    Thank you.

  • Deskjet 2610 disconnection and lights flashing, Windows 7 64 bit, wireless router

I have a Deskjet 2610xi All in One printer that is connected with an ethernet cord to my Netgear wireless router. I am using two Toshiba laptops both running Windows 7 64 bit and both are connected wirelessly. I did not have any problems printing before I installed the new HP Solution Center Software and the fix for Windows 7 connectivity problems from the HP website.
I installed the new driver because I couldn't use my old cd and driver from my original puchase to install the HP software on our new Toshiba laptops. After installing the new driver and software, I now had the functionality of the HP Solution Center and I could now scan, copy etc. with the new software. Not too long after that, my printer started disconnecting and all the lights would flash. The screen on the printer shows error 0x887dd03a. If I press the start button, I can get the printer reconnected for a short amount of time and my print jobs will go through, but it always goes back to the flashing.
I ran the HP Solution Center software to check for updates and was notified of the critical update for Windows 7 reliability. I installed the update, but the problem still exists.
I searched posts on this forum and one of them told me to allow the printers to be shared on the homegroup, which I did, but the problem still exists. I then found another post that told me to do a semi-full reset on my printer, which I did, but the problem still exists.
As mentioned earlier, my printer works as long as I press the start button to get the printer connected again, but it goes back to the error message and flashing lights again. I would like to keep the new software since it allows me to scan without being hardwired to my printer, but if I have to uninstall it, could someone please explain how I can scan documents on the printer directly to my computers wirelessly?
Also, I don't understand the whole Homegroup, Workgroup and Network Sharing settings, etc. so if that is the issue, please walk me through it step by step. I am not sure what the settings are now.
FYI, I went to my Devices and Printers and I see HP Photosmart 2600 series and HP Photosmart 2600 series (2) icons. The one for series (2) is the one checkmarked on both computers.
I am not a computer whiz and so I would appreciate any responses to be very basic. I have done all the research I can and still have the problem described.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I had a real problem with wireless performance on multiple ThinkPads with Win7 until I realized there is a new (or maybe changed implementation) power setting in Win7 which was affecting it.
If you go into Control Panel -> Power Options and click "Change plan settings" for your current power plan.
On the next screen click on "Change advanced power settings"
On the next screen expand "Wireless Adapter Settings" and then "Power Saving Mode"
Make sure it is set to Maximum Performance.
Not sure if this will help your particular problem but hope it does.

  • Can't Print Wirelessly To Windows shared printer

Hi. I recently purchased a macbook pro and I am having trouble printing. My printer is an HP Photosmart 2600 series, and it is connected to a windows xp computer. I have tried pretty much everything. My printer is found on the mac, but when I try to print, "Connection failed: NTSTATUS_CONNECTIONREFUSED" shows up. Please help.
    Thanks

The network host busy message can be a result of using the wrong IP protocol for the print queue, or having incorrect information.
Many users select the IPP protocol, as it is the top item in the menu. IPP often requires a particular queue name, such as ipp, and it is not always a supported protocol by printers. So a suggestion would be to remove this queue and create it again, this time selecting IP > LPD or IP > HP Jetdirect for the protocol. The later is preferred, as it requires no specific queue name and will be the default print protocol being used by Windows.
The other suggestion is that the IP address being used is not the printer but a Windows print server. You can confirm if the address is correct by typing it into your web browser. If this address is the printers then it will open its internal web page.
