HP Photosmart 3180 shared from an Intel iMac

I connected my all in one to my bee-u-tee-full new iMac last week, and flipped on the sharing; piece of cake, right? Done it 100 times, right?
My wife gets home from her business trip, and her Macbook tells her the printer doesn't exist. I'm hard lined to a new Airport, she's wireless-the printer's usb'ed to me with the all-in-one driver. I reset the whole works a couple times, retoggled the sharing...nada.
I know shared printing connected directly to the base station only works with the 'print only' driver on this model, but that isn't acceptable-the whole point is it will double as a fax machine...
Any ideas will be lovingly considered.

Hi @jaebae7 , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're having communication issues.  I would like to help!
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend readding  the printer:
Installing a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • How i remove the stand from an Intel iMac 17"  ???

Please help...is it possible to remove the stand from an intel based imac 17" . If yes how i do it?
    Thank you

Only the 24" iMac models have user removable stands. To remove the stands from the 17" & 20" models requires opening and some disassembly of the computer. This is complicated and difficult, and would most likely void any warranty you have left on the machine if it was not done by a Certified Apple Technician.
    But it has been done by some users in the past;
    Why no VESA mount!? grrrr....

  • Can I use Targ. disk mode to add Tiger to a Mac mini G4 from an Intel iMac?

    Hey all,
Last year I bought a 2.16 GHZ imac (intel duo core), I recently bought a used Mac mini on ebay for a gift for my mother (does not come with any software). She is dying to get an apple so I thought I would get her one. The mini is a 1.25 GHZ G4 PPC with 1 GB RAM and a 100 GB HDD. The person I am buying it from says that she tried to load Leopard and the install failed (something about firmware updates). I would like to add Tiger to it.
    Here is my predicament...
I have the Tiger discs that came with my iMac. I have since bought and installed Leopard on my iMac. I was assuming that I could install my unused Tiger discs on the mini but have come to find out that is probably not going to work (discs are machine specific?).
So what I am wondering if there is a way to load Tiger onto the mini from the iMac using Target Disc Mode? If not, where can one find the unit specific version of 10.4? I just feel really dumb and thought that this would be an easier process. My mom's birthday is coming up soon and I just really want to have this done for her before it.
Another question, is anyone aware of what firmware updates the seller may have been alluding to?
I really do appreciate your time and assistance in this matter.
    Thank you

Specifically this is the only order that will work with Target Disk Mode:
    1. Setup the Mac with a broken or incompatible optical drive in target disc mode.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
    2. Boot off Leopard or Tiger on the working optical drive of the non-target mode machine. Connect the two machines via Firewire cable.
    3. Install Leopard or Tiger.
Since a PowerPC Mac won't boot an Intel Tiger, and the Intel Mac won't boot a PowerPC Tiger, the initial assumption here won't work with Target mode.

  • Deleted Quicktime  from my Intel iMAC and I need it back!!

I thought that I had an issue with Quicktime Pro. So, I deleted it from my iMac running 0S 10.4, thinking that I could download and re-install a clean copy of the program. NOT. I downloaded the "Quicktime version for All Quicktime 7 users" and when I try to install it I get an error message: There is a later version of Quicktime already installed. I can't find any version of QT on the machine and when I try to run a .mov file I get a message that there's no program associated with it.
Can anybody tell me how to reinstall Quicktime on my iMAC? I do have two other MAC's, one of which is an intel MacBook (with 10.5.9) and the other is a PPC with 10.4. Can I copy the QT from one of those and install it on the iMAC?

Quicktime not only installs the Application, but some other frameworks etc.
so, you cannot copy only the application.
Only if you have the exact copy of the version you trashed, you could do that.
You can try to copy from the "PPC 10.4"
    Maybe it works.
    If not:
Here you can pick some Quicktime Installer Versions.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime
You should try the "7.6 Tiger" Version for your iMac/OS 10.4
If your OSX is below 10.4.10, you may Update your System to OSX 10.4.10
    using the "Combo Updater"
    Hope that helps...

  • Connection to use for migration from older intel iMac to newest iMac (2013)

I have a new iMac on order and since it does not have firewire ports I am wondering what to use for content migration connection from the old (20 inch iMac) to the new one.
Is my only opion a USB cable?

I chose Setup Assistant because of advice I was given here, actually. Both Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant work well, but I didn't want any hassles than can ensue with Migration Assistant if you enter a username during the initial setup process that's the same name as what you'll be bringing over with Migration Assistant.
Using Setup Assistant all of my preferences seemed to make the move just fine. I had to arrange Apple Mail the way I had it before, but that was quick and easy. Even my Dock, which I had on the left side of my screen, appeared in the same location on my new iMac.
    (Your mileage may vary...  ).

  • How can I force eject a stuck CD, which won't load, from my Intel iMac?

It's a library CD, and I susect the barcode sticker on the top is causing the CD to be stuck. This has happened a time or two before, but usually the CD will load and then not be able to eject. This time, the CD isn't loaded-- in Disk Utility, the DVD drive panel says in constant rotation "Waiting for the drive/Waiting for a disc to be inserted" as I hear the disc making noise.
I've tried restarting, restarting while holding the right mouse button, the eject button, and the C key, restarting with option and then hitting eject, sticking in a credit card on either side of the CD and hitting eject... can't think of anything else to try. I'd love a way to fix it myself, because dragging a 27" iMac into the Apple Store with toddler in tow is not an appealing prospect.
(iMac is November 2009 vintage, 27", Intel.)

Mmm, stuck for other ideas but maybe shutting the Mac down to let it cool right down and then starting when the Mac is cold with the mouse depressed could be worth a shot.
Maybe someone else will have other ideas, but I fear it might be a trip to the workshop. Good luck.

  • Strange noise (like a clock Tik Tak) from my Intel iMac

    Hello everybody...
So, in the last few days i got a very strange experience from my (usuall great) iMac.
I started to notice that I hear a strange noise around my desk, and figured out it comes from my iMac. Strange as it may be, it sounds as if u put your ears on a Swatch watch when its all quite at night, and all u can hear is the Tik Tak or something liek that....
The mac also became really slow, freezing from time to time, so i thought backup and reinstalling viia the Apple Dvd is a good idea. The mac is faster now, but the voice stayed.
So after i made sure It is a noise from the iMac, (disconnecting all devices, moving it to other rooms and so on...) and appears in any user, i contacted Apple Chat and got adviced to reset Nvram and SMC, which i did both, along with Apple Hardware Test, nothing helped, no error in the test, so was told to go to the Apple lab ....
Since I really can not afford "losing" my mac for 14 days, as i use it for my studies in uni, i would appreciate first that someone is actually reading so far my message and mayb omeone else has / had or heard about this problem and can assist me with....
Thank you very much for any info.......
    Elad

Well, I read your message, but I have no idea what could be causing the issue. If none of the standard troubleshooting remedies solved the issue then an Apple tech needs to "hear" your Mac, especially if it's loud enough to bother you.
Perhaps you got the Mac with the secret internal geothermal nuclear device.
    When it stops ticking...

  • Files shared from iTunes via iMac and iPad.

On my iPad2, when using Keynote, when trying to 'copy files from iTunes' the files retrieved are greyed out.  What is the solution to enable me to retrieve my .jpgs or .png files from my Mac (into Keynote).  iTunes is supposed to work but the files are grey...

I should probably clarify my response.
I am assuming that you want to move images for the Mac to the iPd so that you can place/import them into Keynote. If that assumption is correct, one very easy way to get the images into the iPAd would be to drag them into the Photos Stream in iPhoto - if you use Photos Stream and iPhoto on the Mac. From the Photos app on the iPad, you can save the images to the camera roll album and then place them into Keynote.
If using iTunes, you would have to place the photos into a folder and then sync that folder via iTunes and if you do use iPhoto, you could just include that album into your next sync without removing any other albums or events on the iPad. Select that folder, along with all of the other albums and events that you want to sync in the Photos tab of iTunes.

  • How do I remove migrated PPC apps from Intel iMac that has the same apps?

Before I begin, please know that I've read a lot of previous posts but all the posts only had some of what I needed so I'm posting this as a new topic. OK, here I go:
My PPC running 10.5 just froze-up (that has since been solved) but in the process of solving that issue, I migrated everything as a different user (User B) INCLUDING my applications, to my Intel iMac - my iMac that also had the same applications on it - except they were intel versions and they were under User A.
So I essentially did an archive and clean install on my PPC.
Then, using Migration Assistant, I transferred User B onto my PPC. Now both of my computers have duplicates of most of my applications. In trying to fix this issue, I found out I should NOT have transferred my applications. So now I'm very confused as to which apps I should remove off my PPC and which I should remove off my intel iMac.
If I just delete User B from my intel iMac, that's easy enough but will that remove the dupes? I have a funny feeling it doesn't.
And then, which do I remove from my PPC?
AND THEN, are there other things I will need to remove from different places on my computer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
And now, I've used migration assistant to move everything from user (B) back to my PPC. Now I have duplicate applications with "(from old mac)"

Normally application go in the Applications folder at the top level of the hard drive, not in any user folders. If you have applications in user folders that are the same as those in the Applications folder, you can delete them from the user folders. If you actually migrated PPC applications into the Applications folder on an Intel Mac, it would have replaced the Intel versions. To fix that, you would have to reinstall OSX on the Intel Mac.
The same thing would apply on the PPC Mac.

  • Unable to load songs onto Ipod from Intel Imac

I am unable to unload songs onto my 5th gen ipod from my Intel Imac. No amount of troubleshooting has helped so far; SMC, restore, swapping usb ports, swapping cables, PRAM, etc.
I can, however, load songs onto the ipod from my 6 yr old Tibook. This leads me to believe my Imac has a usb port problem, unless somehow my ipod is at the root of this issue?
The tibook's usb is 1.1, not 2.0, which makes for verrry loonngg load times and I woould much rather be able to load from my Imac.
Has anybody else encountered anything like this before?
Of course my Imac and my ipod are out of warranty - if my Imac (or my Ipod) are in need of repair, can anybody recommend or anti-recommend good repair services, preferably in the Seattle area?
    please and thanks,
    dt

Yes, Itunes starts up, no dialog boxes at first but I can anticipate soon getting a whirling beachball of death oftentimes just by plugging in the ipod, definitely if and when I try to load any songs onto it.
I often eventually get a dialog box to the tune of ipod could not be loaded to for unknown reasons 1435. Thats the only one I remember right now, though it seems I have gotten slight variations on this theme.
The ipod appears both in itunes and the desktop, although if itunes freezes I cannot see the whole desktop to confirm at all times. Yes, the ipod does appear in the system profiler under usb.
Eventually the entire computer will be taken over by the wbbod, forcing a hard re-boot.
    please and thanks,
    dt

  • HP Color LaserJet Problems with intel iMac

Can anyone give me advice on the following:-
When I try to print from my wife's new intel iMac 20" to our HP Color LaserJet 2550L, it doesn't work and print center gives me the following error message ... "The process "hppostprocessing" terminated unexpectedly on signal 5" .
The printer is connected directly to the iMac via USB. It's not on a network.
I ran the HP Color LaserJet installer from the original CD that came with the printer and when that didn't work I downloaded another (latest) Color LaserJet installer (dated 2004) from the HP website. Still getting the same error message from PrintCenter.
When I look at the HP installer log, it appears that the installer tried several times without success to install plugins into the PPD folder (HD->Library->Printers->PPD).
After trying installation and checking out my PPD folder (above) there is nothing in it.
This printer has been (still) working fine with our older 20inch iMac.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Same happened with my photosnart. Here is part of the email from HP
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
I understand from your email that you are not able to print to your
photosmart 1218 printer from your new imac.
I believe you are correct when you mention the glitch between the new
    Intel processor in the iMac.
I have checked the Apple website and noted the pre-installed printer
drivers that ship with this operating system, do NOT include drivers for
the Photosmart 1218 printer. There are Gimp print drivers available for
the Photosmart P1000 printer. They may work, but provide only basic
printer functionality. (see the Apple document listed below).
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303057#hpdrivers
I understand that our engineers are investigating the driver issue with
the Intel-based Macs, however, I cannot provide you with an expected
date of resolution. Your printer was manufactured in 2000, and the most
recent drivers are from Aug 2005. These drivers were created before the
    Intel based macs were available.

  • Intel iMac Component Video Out

Has anyone tried a component video out connection to an HDTV from the Intel iMac? I've read from the ATI website that the new Radeon X1600 card supports component video out with an adapter.
There was never a really good way to do this with previous Mac models.

A little more news about component out from the Intel iMac 20"
The VGA adapter included with my 12" iBook does not fit the mini-dvi port on the iMac. So you need to buy a new adapter from Apple.
    Also:
I tried using a VGA-to-component cable with the iBook VGA adapter and a standard television set. The cable is designed to interface a component-out DVD player to a VGA-in BenQ projector. I ran the cable to the component-in jacks on my Sanyo (analog-non HD) television. No go. Tried several resolutions and adapter refresh rates, and got some smeared video, but it made me nervous and I stopped experimenting. Haven't tried this cable with my HDTV for fear of damage.
Basically, the cable was meant to take a video signal from the DVD player to the projector. My experiment was mac to TV.
So sad, oh so sad ;<

  • Intel iMac install disc versions

I have a big favor to ask of all you forum members. I have install media from different intel iMacs that I need to distinguish from one another. As far as I know, the discs from a 17" iMac with integrated graphics will not work on a 17" iMac with Radeon X1600 graphics, nor will they work across the Core Duo to Core 2 Duo bump. I'm looking for the AHT and any other distinguishing information from these discs so I know which iMac they belong to. Here's what I know so far:
17" Core Duo w/ integrated graphics:
    • AHT version 3A108, Disc version 1.0, MacOS 10.4.7
    17" & 20" Core Duo w/ Radeon X1600 graphics
    • AHT version 3A100, Disc version 1.1, MacOS 10.4.4
All other models I do not know. Can those of you with other models post your install disc versions? I'm looking for all the intel iMac version from when they were released (though I believe I have the first generation above) through the iMacs available right now, as we have all kinds on our campus. Please include the disc 2 version (the 2Z691-xxxx-x number) as well.
Thank you to everyone who can contribute!
    17" Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    17" Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    17" Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Unfortunately I can't give any detailed information since I only have the original iMac CD (disk version 1.0) but until others chime in, here's some information that might be helpful.
AFAIK, it should be possible for the latest version of the OS/Install to work across all iMacs but not the reverse (my original DVD will not boot one that requires a more recent version of the OS or the newer C2D architecture). That being said, each install media set should have the OS version appearing on the disc. You may be able to deduce (or narrow it down) by comparing the OS version and the time the specific iMac model was released. The more recent the Mac revision, the more recent the OS (or at least that is usually the case).
    10.4.4 January 10,2006
    10.4.5 February 14, 2006
    10.4.6 April 3, 2006
    10.4.7 June 27, 2006
    10.4.8 September 29, 2006
    10.4.9 March 13, 2007
The Core Duo iMac debuted in January 2006 and should have (initially) come with 10.4.4.
The Core 2 Duos debuts (I believe) in September of 2006 and likely shipped with 10.4.7 (or 10.4.8 although the first one is more likely).
Not much help, I know, but it's a start.

  • Periodic iChat audio dropouts over Airport on Intel iMac

When chatting with iChat, an audio dropout occurs exactly every 5 minutes on my new Intel iMac. iChat's Connection Doctor shows total loss of receive audio signal quality (and a halving of the receive bit rate) for about 5-10 seconds. Then normal operation resumes for 5 minutes and the problem repeats. This only occurs while using iChat over Airport. I can also force this audio dropout behavior at any time by clicking on the Airport status icon on the menubar. I wonder if others are having this problem or is this an isolated problem with my computer?
It took me a while to recognize that this wasn't a network problem causing occasional audio dropouts. My wireless D-Link router isn't the culprit as my G4 iMac and G3 laptop don't exhibit the problem through the router. Also, when connecting from the Intel iMac to any of the other nearby Macs using a computer to computer Bonjour wireless connection (thus eliminating the router) the dropouts do occur. After connecting, the dropout always occurs at a random time between 0 and 5 minutes but thereafter it occurs at exactly 5 minute intervals. If I click on the Airport status icon to force the audio dropout, the next dropout will occur 5 minutes later.
I also have a new Intel Mac Mini which doesn't exhibit the periodic audio dropout problem but does have a similar audio dropout whenever I click on the Airport status icon. The dropout lasts longer on the Mini - about 15 seconds average before the audio signal quality fully recovers. Because the periodic dropout doesn't happen on the Mini, it isn't really an operational problem, but it is instructive to note that only the Intel Macs exhibit this particular behavior.
In troubleshooting the iMac, I have turned off all timing related items that I can think of including, Mail (check manually), Set Date and Time Automatically (OFF), all sleep, hard drive and screen timers OFF, all iCal reminders OFF, etc. I have also turned all Dashboard Widgets OFF, corrected permissions, tried a different user ID, reset the NVRAM and SMC. I have even tried setting the iChat app to open as a Rosetta app . Nothing has solved this problem yet.
The iMac is a dual core 20" with 1.5 GB of RAM and the Mini is a dual core with 512 MB of RAM. Both are running Tiger 10.4.5 Wireless signal level in all tests is 100 percent.
    Thanks for any help.
    Bill

OK, I have my Intel iMac connected to the Internet via an Ethernet converter. What this means is that the iMac is connected via Ethernet cable to the Ethernet converter, which, in turn, communicates wirelessly with a wireless router.
This seems to clearly solve the wireless connection audio issue as the Intel iMac thinks it has only an Ethernet connection. There is no audio dropout after five minutes or so, but there may be other Mac to Mac connection issues related to Intel Macs.
I'm going to run with this connection for awhile to see if there are other problems, but this seems to be a good workaround for the moment. I'm using a Buffalo Technology WLI-TX4-G54HP Ethernet converter, which costs about $60 USD at most online vendors in the US.
Although $60 may seem like a lot of money to spend on an Apple-created problem, using the Buffalo high power device is almost surely going to provide significantly better wireless range. This increased range advantage may be enough to offset a large part or all of the $60 cost.
