HP Photosmart 5510 fails to print with brand new 364XL black ink cartridge

The original HP 364 'SETUP' black ink cartridge worked well and I bought an HP364XL black ink cartridge via the HP website.
I installed the HP364XL this morning, but it's failing to leave any ink on the pages.
The cartridge seems to fit OK and there are no error messages.  The paper goes through in the normal way, but comes out with no printing on it.  The date on the box is SEP 2014, so it's not out of date.
I've tried to find what's wrong.  I've checked the cartridge is properly installed and it seems to have ink in it.   I've tried printing using the black cartridge again and again with different settings, such as 'Fast draft' and 'Normal', but each time the paper emerges with no printing.  The 'Supply Levels' shows the black cartridge to be about 90% full.
This question was solved.

This is normally caused by the vent on top of the cartridge being clogged, or by a dirty printhead. The document linked below will help you work out the problem. Let me know what happens.

  • Officejet pro 8000 not recognizing brand new HP black ink cartridge

Hi. My officejet pro 8000 is not recognizing a brand new HP brand black ink cartridge. The black ink indicator remains lit and it will not print. I have unplugged the printer, but this did nothing. It is wierd, when I open the door where the cartridges are, the light goes out, it only goes on again when I close that door. The printer was working perfectly until this . Any helpful hints? Thanks so much.

    Hello chx2,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Officejet 8600 is not recognizing your brand new black ink cartridge. I will do my best to assist you! Please make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall. I just want to see if this makes a difference.
Next, please follow these steps in order:
    1) Remove all ink cartridges from the printer, then close the door
    2) Remove the power cord from the printer (Do not press the power button)
    3) Please clean the ink cartridges by following this HP document here. (Also, make sure you have completed all the steps from this document)
    4) Wait 60 seconds or more, then plug the power cord back in
    5) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges
    6) Try to print a document
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Officejet 4620 Brand new HP Black ink cartridge and it won't print black at all

Greetings, my printer recently ran out of ink. So I purchased a set of cartridges from Staples. I installed them and ran the Clean Printhead function. I now have great color and NO BLACK. I ran the clean printhead function numerous times. Its so frustrating to watch the evolution of printers over the last 2 decades go from reliable to unreliable all for the purpose of financial gains. I've had printers since the 80's, I used printers when they came with ribbon cartridges, which hardly failed, though they would indeed dry out. At least when they did dry out you would be able to put a new one in and continue. Now they have engineered replaceable printheads (because they were made knowing they will fail), ink cartridges that are not interchangeable (knowing that once you've had it with one printer model, you'll most likely switch to another brand or model) which uses a DIFFERENT model ink cartridge. All for finacial gain. Between my office and home, I've been through 4 printers in the last 2 years. I was a loyal Lexmark fan, untill my old one died and I purchased a new one, first thing I noticed was the changeable printhead, and I said to myself, uh oh, thats going to fail, and so said, so done, within 3 months of using the printer, Lexmark sent me 2 printheads and 2 sets of replacement inks free of charge. I still have a set of ink and a printhead because the LCD screen went blank, lol. Had to toss it. Ended up switching to HP which I believe is made in the same factory as Lexmarks after much comparison of models. Now I have the newest HP at my office and its been great thus far and SUPERB on ink usage, THUSFAR. I'm almost afraid to find out what my future has in store. I know I ran on alot off topic, BUT HP, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES. I've now wasted $60 on a new set of cartridges and will most likely need a new printer since my warranty is expired. SMH. Bad Business!!!!

Is your printer still in warranty? You can check with HP's warranty tool here.  Are you located in the US?

  • Why will PE 11 not print with brand new Epson R3000?

Brand new Epson R3000 printer and works fine except with PE 11. Epson spent an hour trying new drivers and setting to no avail.
Is it the PE version? (worked fine with Epson R2880 one week ago)

It should work. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling PSE. Sometimes that helps it to pick up a new printer. Use control panel or the uninstaller in the PSE folder in applications. This shouldn't affect your catalogs and photos, since those files are separate from the program files.

  • HP 5514 not printing with brand new black ink cartridge

Ok so I have the same issue as everyone else here - new cartridges but won't print - specifically black. Other colors print fine. Cartridges have expiration of 2016 and were made in China. I put a new one in last night - got 2 pages printed out and all was good, color printed, black printed. Woke up this morning and no black - nothing, nada, zilch. I did everything recommended - multiple passes on cleaning, checked vent holes, etc etc etc...have now lost most of my color ink from printing the test pages - still no black.
So my unit of course is out of warranty - so now what? Like the others - product was not overly used - a few pages a week - nothing massive. So it should still have life left you would think.
Next steps please? Really can't afford a new printer no matter how cheap they are these days...and with no warranty - what are my available options????
Thanks - btw I worked for HP for a number of years in a small division if that gets me any brownie points....

    Hi @LAnn15,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 5514, you are unable to print in black ink.
I would like you to continue here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, I understand you may have done some of these steps already but I need you to complete all steps in order to resolve the missing black issue you are experiencing.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
If you are still unable to print in black ink, I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in as well as the product Warranty status: HP Warranty Checker
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Thanks,
    HevnLgh

  • Trying to install Deskjet 3054A wireless printing with brand new Mac Book Pro

    Hello,
I am trying to set up the wireless printing function on the Deskjet 3054A with a new Mac Book Pro, but not having any luck. When I connect via the USB the printer shows up, but once disconnected there is no communication. I tried to get the updated driver on the HP site, but nothing ever downloaded and it kept taking me to the setup page.
Is this All-In-One compatible with the new Mac OS 10.10 for wireless printing?
    Thank
    Scott

    Hello Sabuff,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some connectivity issues to you Mac 10.10.
Just so you are aware, the printer does not have a full feature software and driver package available for the Mac 10.10 operating system.
You can however try the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Please feel free to write me back with any other questions or concerns.

  • Printing with brand new Epson WF-3620 printer

I am trying to print from Elements 12.1 with a new Epson WF-3620 printer.  Using their Ultra premium photo paper glossey. When I try and print, unit says paper does not match selection in printer menu set-up and when I do try it prints black lines through photo. This happens even when printing with just plain paper. Printer is new, ran all maintenance and it prints perfectly from iPhoto (except I can't custom print from iPhoto which I need to do). Epson CS said printer set-up settings may need to be adjusted in Elements so I need to know if this is possible. Thanks.

so I assume your instructions are for setting things up in Elements since you mention Expert mode, which I use. I will try it when I get home, so thanks again. As for iPhoto, what I did was select the photo I had imported already cropped to the size I needed in Elements then hit print at the bottom. When the print screen opened, at the bottom right is the measurement settings for custom printing. I just changed those to the size of the photo I needed, then hit the Fill box at the top right, then hit the Custom box and it set up to print correctly. You just need to make sure you enter your image size numbers in the correct boxes at the bottom depending on horizontal or vertical printing. There also is a pull down menu at the upper right if you need to select a certain type of paper. The funny thing is I went out and bought some Epson matte paper and the printer worked perfectly. Prints look amazing and no lines. Makes me think it may have been the premium glossy paper I was using. Again, thanks for your help and I hope the info I gave about iPhoto wss what you were asking about.

  • New HP black ink cartridge fails

Just put a brand new HP ink cart into my HP photosmatr 6510 - it did the first 3 or 4 pages fine but after that NOTHING.
I must say HP is getting more and more greedy - reducing the ink in these already expensive cartridges.
    Please advise

Hi, I am sorry that the info I provided is of no value to you, and I do understand it could be frustrating when things break. However, this is a user to user help forum, and people here volunteer their time try to help fellow users, so please forgave if their post has no diagram and complex.
Based on what you stated, I still believe the black printhead is out of service, and because the printhead on this model is not replacable, to fix the problem, the printer needs repair (to replace the printhead):
    1. If the printer is still under warranty, please call HP support directly to have the printer serviced.
    2. If the printer is out of warranty, you can have it professionally repaired, or follow the "VERY complex description" in the other post to get it fixed. Or
    3. If you think HP is responsible, please call HP support directly to log a case.

  • HP Deskjet F4200: Won't Print In Black After Installing New HP Black Ink Cartridge (XL)

I am reading on this board that this problem exists on a lot of other HP injet printers.
One post is a detailed post on how to dis-assemble a F4620 to access the clogged print heads so that you can unclog it by running it under hot (tap) water.
It seems that these products were designed poorly, or with planned obsolescence so when this problem occurs (usually outside of warranty) and you call you tech support, HP will try to get more money of you by having you subscribe to post-warranty tech support, or better, have you end up buying another HP injet, and have the same issue again down the road.
It the print heads could be accessed and removed for sevice more readily, this problem would be more easily dealt with by most users.
Does anyone know if the dis-assembly instructions for the F4620 are the same for the F4200?  Or better still, is there a U-tube out there on how to access/dis-assemble the F4200 to remove the print head for servicing (unclogging)?

The Officejet 4620 has an entirely different design from your printer.  It has permanent printheads with separate ink supplies.  [I strongly discourage folks from disassembling the printhead on the Officejet 4620 to clean it, the likely result will be a damaged printer.  It would be much better for these folks to call HP support regardless of warranty as described in the post here.  If they are in the US call 1-800-HPINVENt, elsewhere see the contact information here.]  This does not apply to your printer.
The Deskjet F4200 series printer you have is an entirely different design.  Your printheads are integrated into the print cartridges, and replaced with each cartridge replacement.  In your other post I gave a link for troubleshooting steps for your printer, which would lead to this document.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue I would suggest removing the black cartridge and gently blotting the printhead on a damp tissue.  This should result in a strong black blot.  If there is no ink at all it is possible the protective tape was not removed (sometimes the pull tab can separate from the tape. leaving the tape on the cartridge).   If there is just a weak smudge of ink it is possible the cartridge is defective.  In this case you could contact your dealer or HP for a replacement.  If you want to take a more immediate action you could try soaking the printhead as follows:  put about 1" of very hot (but not boiling) water in a teacup.  Put the cartridge in the teacup with its nozzles pointing down and let it soak for ten minutes.  After soaking remove the cartridge and gently dry the electrical contacts with a lint free tissue.  Replace the cartridge in the printer and print a test page.

  • NEW HP Black ink cartridge will not print

Our HP 6520 just randomly stopped printing black, it will print color that's it.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it in water for a few minutes then back in and nothing. We have now bought 2 new black cartridges i'm at a loss any help would be greatly appreciated. I have already completed all of the troubleshooting listed the forums.
Also it's out of warranty being it's over a year old so HP support is not an option

The post here has links to a troubleshooting document for the Photosmart 6520.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue please call HP Support, even if the printer is not longer under warranty.  In the US or Canada call 1-800-HPINVENt, elsewhere see the document here for contact information.  If the above does not give satisfactory results then please post back here.

  • Black ink cartridge in my Photosmart c309g-m won't print

I have an HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m printer. The black ink was low so I replaced the cartridge with a brand new HP564 black ink cartridge (not the photo black ink cartridge).  The printer will not print the black ink cartridge since I replaced it. I have replaced it with a new black ink cartridge twice thinking that perhaps the first one was bad. I have shut down the printer as instructed and waited. I unplugged the power source and unplugged it from my computer. After waiting the instructed time period, I plugged everything back in, turned the printer back on and attempted to print again. The black ink cartridge still will not print. The color cartridges and the photo black  ink cartridge are printing. I have done several clean printhead routines. I even attempted an alignment (this has failed). Now since the alignment procedure has failed, the printer attempts the alignment every time I turn it back on. This procedure continues to fail since the black ink cartridge still won't print! I am wasting all my color and photo black ink! What can I do to correct this problem? The error messages that I received were Oxc19a0007 and  Oxc19a00013. I could not find any other solutions for this problem.

I have the same problem as redtailhawk, however no error messages.  I have an HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m printer/copier/scanner.  The cyan, magenta, and photo black cartridges were all low, so I replaced them with remanufactured HP564XL cartridges from 4inkjets.com, which apparently are from LD Products, which is on the labels on each cartridge.  These are what I already had installed, and have been using sucessfully for the past two years or so.   The printer will not print using the black ink cartridge since I replaced the other three cartridges.  I believe, actually, that I tried to put a document and only the color text printed before I replaced the three cartridges.  I tried another remanufactured black ink cartridge, thinking that the one I had installed might have become bad somehow. What I have tried:1. I cleaned the printheads from the printer network page, then did a 2nd deeper cleaning.2. I performed a hard reset by unplugging the printer while it was on, after it got finished performing all tasks, then plugged it back in 30-60 seconds later.3. I verified that all cartridges were properly vented.4. I soaked the printheads in hot water and noticed that quite a bit of ink flushed out of them.  However, when I reinstalled the printheads and cartridges, all my ink level went down at least 50%.  Before I removed the printhead, I also noticed that there was some black ink on the printhead that looks like it had leaked from the cartridge prossibly. When I run a print quality report or printer status report, I see that the black does not print at all; the other four cartridges all displays their levels.  Also, every time I try to align the cartridges, the alignment fails.  I do not get any error messages, though. I am running Windows 7 (x64) and printing via USB.  I also tried printing via bluetooth as well as using the web services printer, neither of which worked.  I also booted into Windows 8.1 (x64) RTM and attempted to print, but I'm having the same problem. Please advise me on what I can do to fix this problem, or if I have to buy another printhead.  Thank you greatly in advance. Not sure if these would be useful, but I've include my printer's device information pages and well as the usage report.
Below is my printer's device information page: Below is my printer's usage report:

  • HP Photosmart 5510 will not print black ink

MY HP 5510 printer refuses to recognize the black ink cartridge.  I purchased a brand new cartridge (genuine HP - not a generic brand or a refill), took it straight out of the box, removed all of the wrapping and installed it.  I also tried unplugging the printer and then restarting it.  I receive a message on the printer screen saying that the black cartridge is "missing or damaged" and I am incapable of moving beyond that screen.  I purchased a second cartridge and received the same result.  I looked on Google and found over 25 entries of people describing the same problem.  I called the Support center and they had me do all of the steps I had previously done, then graciously recommended I buy another printer from them. How do I resolve this?

  • HP Photosmart 5510 will not print Black Ink!! - Time to "break-up" with HP

I came upon this forum by doing a google search for the issue I'm having which is my HP Photosmart 5510 will not print black ink. The printer is a year and a half old and is used only for home office use (not a heck of a lot of printing being done)
It started right after I installed new ink cartridges (all four of them) I want to mention hear that I ONLY buy genuine HP ink cartridges from Staples and when I replace my cartriges I replace all four at the same time even if one ink level is not considered "replaceably" low. When the issue started I thought I must have gotten a bad black cartridge so I went out and bought another one but was still having the issue. So that's when I did my google search.
I tried all the suggestions (several times) on this post (which did not reslove the problem) : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Issues-Troubleshooting/HP-Photosmart-5510-will-not-print/m-p/1...
and I tried a "Hard Reset" as suggested here (again did not resolve the problem) :  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Ink-Toner-Cartridge-Printhead-Issues/Photosmart-5510-Will-not-print-in-...
After trying all of these my color ink is less than half full....remember....I started with 4 brand new ink cartridges...so now, I'm out roughly $85 in ink just trying to resolve a problem that should not have happened in the first place!! Shame on HP for makeing such poor quality products. I gave up on HP computers years ago and now I'm giving up on their printers!! This HP Photosmart 5510 All In One printer replaced an HP Color Laserjet CM1312nfi printer (which cost approximately $400) that only lasted about 3 years. Sorry HP but that's it....I'm moving on! Consider this our "break-up" letter.

Hi TisKate, sorry to hear that you are having printing issues when it comes to printing in Black. I am also sorry to hear that you are breaking up with HP. I would like to offer a couple more troubleshooting steps before we say our fond farewells. Now this might sound silly but really it isn't. If you have the power cable connected to a Power bar/strip, please remove it and connect the power cable directly to a wall outlet. HP printers already have a built in surge protector and if you have it in a strip/bar, the printer will not get all the power needed to function properly. This can cause printing issues or false error messages on the printer display screen. Here is a document that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
The other step I would like to take is on the printers display touch screen. Please use the right arrow key and go to the Wrench icon. Press the wrench and go to the Tools menu. Once in the Tools menu, please select Clean Printhead. Use the cleaning utility 2-3 times or until you see a change in the print status reports. It might take a few cycles but I am confident that it will make a difference.
I hope you and HP can still be friends( friendly humor).
