HP Photosmart 5520 Wireless Setup Wizard Hangs, USB fails to install

Hello,
I bought a HP Photosmart 5520 4 weeks ago. I installed it and setup a wireless connection. It worked for 1 week without flaws.
After a holiday my HP PS5520 printer lost its wireless connection to the network. I restarted the printer, still no wireless connection. all other devices like iPhones work OK on the wireless network. Tried to run the Wireless Setup Wizard again but the routine hangs (the spinner stops) when searching for routers and no networks are displayed, it hangs. Only a powercord detach can/will hard-restart the printer. After starting the printer, the printer complains that I should us the power butten, but that does not work when it hangs at the wireless setup wizard.
I tried this routine several times, but the printer hangs every time when searching for routers... Tried manual, reset factory defaults, reset network defaults etc... Wireless is simply impossible to use since it can not be setup.
So I tried to use the USB port directly attached to my PC. Since the wireless driver was installed, I connected the printer to the PC with USB but then it was marked as a unrecognised device by Windows 7. I tried to add the HP driver manually but when selecting the CD (inf), Windows tells me that the service stoppen (-10)...
So I installed the software from the CD which pointed me to the online version of the software which I installed. After selecting the USB radiobutton, it tells me to connect the HP PS 5520 which I did, but the HP install window failes to detect that the printer is plugged into the USB port and the printer is installed by Windows as an unknown device.
I uninstalled the 'unknown device' and tried again, wthout luck. Tried another USB port, Windows installed it again as an unknown device and the HP software failes to pick it up. So after googling I deleted all HP software from my computer (Intel I7 - 8 GB), uninstalled the unknown USB device from windows, rebooted several times, deleted all HP folders and cleaned all temp-folders (I am an IT professional!).
So, I installed the software again but when the HPO software asks me to attach the USB cable, Windows again installed the 5520 as an unbknown device and the HP software again failes to see that the printer is attached to the PC.
Tomorrow I will buy a new printer but since this HP 5520 is only 4 weeks old, I really want to knwo how I can fix
1 The issue that the HP printer hangs when searching for routers / wireless networks
2 Windows/HP software to find the HP 5520 through USB
I guess nobody will have an answer since Google does not give any help. This post is merely to expose my frustration that HP makes fine printers but failes to deliver issue-free software... I always have issues when setting up HP printers somehow...
Of coarse I hope that somebody has a clue..... Good night!

I have had my 5520 for a couple of years, when intermittently it has dropped off the wireless network, and I have had to reinstall the network. Now it does it every time I switch it on - it has lost the network and password. This is very irritating...

  • Wireless setup wizard on hp 7410 all in one doesn't give promt for next step in setting up wireless

The printer is connected to a computer (windows xp) through usb I want to enable the wirless for my laptop (windows 7). I ran the wireless setup wizard and it says searching for available networks then goes back to the home screen. I ran the network utility and the printer doesn't show up but the printer is shown under devices and printers when I click start. The wirless router is a D-Link dir-815 wireless N dual band router. it is 802.11g and a compliant.

Uh, this is a wireless printer, so let's set it up that way:
    - Disconnect the USB cable to the printer.
    - in Start > All Programs > Hewlett-Packard> [your printer model] > Add a Device.
    - Choose to add a Wireless or Network device.
    - At one point in the installation it will ask you to TEMPORARILY connect a USB cable.  Do so only after it asks.
    - Remove the USB cable when it asks.
Now that the printer is wirelessly connected to your network you can do the same procedure with other computers on the network, only you will NOT use the USB cable to communicate network settings to the printer - that has already been done with the first computer.

  • Wireless Setup Wizard not showing up on printer to setup wifi on 1525nw

I am not able to see the Wireless Setup Wizard when trying to get my printer setup on a new network. I would like to reset the printer to factory default settings and need some direction in getting this done. Please help.
    Keltex

    Hi Keltex,
Indeed a Wireless Setup Wizard is not an available option for the CP1525nw, it support either Wireless Protected Setup (WPS) or wireless setup through the HP software on your PC.
If your new router supports WPS you may use that option from that menu and click the WPS button on your router or your router configuration utility (refer to your router manual for more information) otherwise run the software installation for your printer by selecting wireless connection, you will be prompted to temporarly connect a USB in order to configure the wireless connection.
For any issues, be sure to clarify your operating system.

  • WiFi Wireless Setup Wizard produces Blue Screen of Death on Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

The wireless setup wizard on my Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is failing immediately after "scanning for networks". I get a blue screen of death with error message B8494B00, followed by "turn printer on and off" with flashing screen.
I bought the printer about one month ago and it has worked perfectly so far. My Apple Time Capsule failed yesterday, so I bought a new one (latest model) and had to set up the wireless network again. When I tried to do so on the printer, I got the error for the first time. Nothing else had changed. Other devices are working with no problems on the new network. The computer is an Apple iMac running OS Mountain Lion.
I have tried turning the printer on and off, disconnecting the power and reconnecting, then turning it on again, but no result. I have restored the wireless to factory settings, but no difference.
    Please help.

Right off I have to tell you I do not "speak Mac".
I assume the "Apple Time Capsule" is a name for a network router?  A syncing device?
    Unless I am mistaken:
You do not need the Wizard to set up the network -- it is pretty software for an HP PC; when it works, it can make things easier.  The setup Wizard is not necessary for the process.  I should think this is true for the Mac.
    =====================================================================================
If you cannot get someone from the Printing group to answer your specific concern,
you may have succes with the following:
The User Guide has pretty good detail on how to set up the networking necessary to get the printer connected to either a PC or Mac environment.  Assuming you can get the printer to "Reset network settings" (User Guide, page 222), then you can re-enter the information you require manually.  It is a bit tedious, but is may work better than fighting the Wizard.
    OfficeJet Pro 8600 User Guide
You may be able to circumvent sone or all of this by reinstalling the Full Feature Software for your printer -- that assumes you are first able to "reset network settings", at least, and get a printout test page to verify that the reset actually worked.

  • HP Photosmart C4795 Wireless Setup (Error Messege: Device Not Connected) Help?!?

I've had my HP Photosmart C4795 since 2009. I've haven't had any major issues with the printer until recently (probably time to get a new one).
This is my issue; the printer can't connect to my network. I'm able to print via USB from my Mac or PC. But I'd like to be able to print from any computer on my home network. In the past I've setup the printer to network with minor issue. I've had issues ever since the Mountain Lion Update (running version 10.8.3).
I've attempted to try once again to connect the printer to the network and I get an error message from my the HP Installer software (Device Not Connected). I've tried to troubleshoot the printer with no luck. These are solutions I've tried
    1) Uninstalled HP Installer Software/Setup via Mac  - I added the printer using the latested instructions provide from HP Supports section. I set up the printer but I can't it isn't showing up on any other computer.
    2) WPS - My router (supplied by Comcast) couldn't find the printer. I used routers login website to connect the printer but it didn't work.
    3) I've printed out the HP Network Configuration Page and manually add the printer's MAC Address to list on my router's devices list. I still can't connect wirelessly to the printer.
I've connected this printer wirelessly in the past before the Mountain Lion Update. Can anyone help?

First, on the printer go to Setup [Scan] > Wireless > Restore Defaults.
Then, set the printer up using WPS (pushbutton) - start it in the printer (Wireless menu) first, then the router within 2 minutes of starting it on the printer.
There is no HP software for 10.8, so you need to uninstall it.   Uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Restart your Mac.
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

  • How do I get my Microsoft Surface RT tablet to accept my HP Photosmart 5520 wireless printer?

My tablet was printing to the hp then decided it wouldn't so I uninstalled it and now I can't get it back.  The tablet says there are no devices found.  What is the answer other than buying another printer?

Hi McCallum, welcome to the HP Forums. Windows RT has built in drivers for many printers. All you need to do it plug it in, if you are using it with a USB cable. If you are using it over the network wirelessly you should just have to use the Add Printer wizard.
The document with the instructions are here: Install the Printer Software in Windows RT or Windows 8 on a Tablet
Under "Step two: Install the software" choose "Windows RT"
Let me know if that helps.

Your printer can connect to your Orange Live Box wirelessly (or wired like your computer).   If your computer is connected to the Orange Live Box via Ethernet, your router will allow communication even though the printer is wireless and the computer is wired.
I don't think you need the USB card.  Just run the Wireless Setup WIzard from the front of the printer (Setup > Network area) to connect it wirelessly to your Orange Live Box, then download and run the software from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

  • Printer does accept the WEP key. any Solution, c309g wireless setup

    Hi,
    i have a Photosmart c309 g printer.
I have been on phone with the tech for almost 8 hrs but with no solution. The end result being, they suggested to replace the printer.
when i and also with assistance with the technician, ran the Wireless setup wizard,  my network is detected. when i hit ok on it, it prompts for WEP. Then i enter it, it displays connecting and then displays "ERROR " "Invalid WEP".
Below are the other few steps i tried......... >
a> the printer was RESET , i guess it was SemiFull Reset . Then we tried running the wireless setup wizard, and it ended up with the same error  "ERROR " "Invalid WEP".
b> we installed through USB to have it in wireless .... the same issue.
c> the tech asked me have the WEP key changed. I called my Router mfd and got the WEP key changed to only Numbers ( earlier it was alphanumeric ) , we then tried running the wireless setup wizard .. we got the same error message.
d> We also tried Manually adding the IP, subnet mask and default gateway .... but the ping does not work. It says 100% loss.
The tech concluded that it could be a problem with the printer wireless circuit . hence advised to replace the printer.
I am returning the printer to the stores in a day or 2days. Let me know if "returning the printer " is the right thing to do or is there anyone over here who could suggest me steps to resolve it.
    Thanks !!!!!!!!

Let's try an experiment.  Since I'm not sure of your exact configuration, I'd like  you to try some one of the following:
If your Linksys wireless-router is also your ADSL modem -- disconnect the telephone line from the Linksys wireless-router and then power cycle the Linksys (unplug power, wait 30 seconds, plug power back in).  Leave the telephone line unplugged.
    -- or --
If your ADSL modem is separate from your Linksys wireless-router, disconnect the LAN cable between the ADSL modem and the Linksys wireless-router and then power cycle the Linksys (unplug power, wait 30 seconds, plug power back in).  Leave the LAN cable disconnected.
Power cycle the printer.  Wait 60 seconds for the wireless-router to power up completely and then run the C309g Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer's front panel (Setup -> Network -> Wireless Setup Wizard).
If the printer connected successfully, then there is one more change we need to make and that is to set a static IP address for the printer.
Open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.  Select Networking and then Wireless (802.11).  Under the IPv4 Configuration tab, select Manual IP:
For Manual IP Address, use the existing printer IP address plus an offset.  For example, if the printer's IP address is currently 192.168.0.5, then use 192.168.0.30.
For Manual Subnet Mask, use 255.255.255.0
For Manual Default Gateway, leave blank.  This is important.
    Select Manual DNS Server:
Leave both the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields empty.  This is important.
    Press Apply.
Turn off the wireless-router and reconnect the cable (telephone or LAN).  Now turn off  the printer and all computers connected to your network.  Wait 60 seconds then turn on the wireless-router and then turn on the printer.  Then turn on the computers.
Finish up by installing the SW on the computers you want to print from.  One more suggestion -- do not install the HP Customer Participation Program.

  • HP photosmart C309a: Wireless radio is not functioning

I completed the wireless network test report and the diagnostics summary states that the wireless is not working and there were no wireless networks detected.
This printer had been originally connected directly to the internet port and had been able to print from all locations in the house wirelessly. Now that the internet connection is not plugged directly into the printer- it is not working.
What do I need to do?

I understand you are unable to connect wirelessly any longer to your Photosmart C309a model. I would first recommend restoring the network defaults and attempting to connect to your network again.
On the printer, select Setup Menu, Network, Restore Network defaults-Yes and restart the printer.
On the printer, select Setup Menu, Network, Advanced Setup, Wireless Radio, turn ON.
On the printer, select Setup Menu, Network, Advanced Setup, Wireless Setup Wizard (this will search for all the networks in your area, choose your network and enter your SSID (router password) to connect, then the printer will tell you it's connected.
The printer will display an IP address (ex: 192.168.1.2) so if you input the IP into a web browser, you should be able to reach the embedded webserver (printers webpage) which will show you it's connected to the network.
Now the printer will be connected to your network.
If you are still unable to connect to your network or run into any issues, please let me know the details and I will look into this some more for you. Please also include which OS you are running on your computer if further issues arise.

    Hi shivawood:
You would need to setup the second printer on your network, which you can do from the front panel of the printer by running the wireless setup wizard. I have included a link to the user guide for your printer which explains how to put the printer on your wireless network.  It starts on page 26.

My new cm1415fnw laserjet pro works great on the wired network, but I am having problems setting it up on the wireless network.
from the front panel, when i activate the wireless setup wizard, the front panel says "retrieveing wireless network information", then after a few seconds, the screen goes blank and the printer initializes. If I try again, the same thing happens.
I have updated the firmware to 20111215 and i have disconnected the wired ethernet before activating the wireless wizzard.
I have also tried to do a wireless setup from a workstation by temporarily plugging in a usb cable to the printer and running the software to setup the wireless. the software starts up and I get about 40% into the progress bar and the printer continuously initializes as above until i click the cancel button on the workstation.
neither method produces an error message.
I have 4 accessible networks in the area, one being open and three being secured.
I can see the 4 networks clearly on a laptop and i can get to the unsecured network from the laptop, although it brings me to a signon screen requiring that i enter my email address, acknowledge reading the acceptible use policy and click the login button before i can get to a specific web site.
any ideas on what i can do to get out of this loop with the printer going through initializations?.

    Hi kiki,
Do you have a phone cable plugged into the printer?
When you run the wireless setup wizard you indicate that it keeps going into initializing mode correct?
Have you tried the printer on a different network like your friends or relatives network?

  • Cannot complete wireless setup for Officejet 4500 G510n using HP Installer

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this problem.
I bought an Officejet 4500 G510n and all was working fine on my old MacBook laptop. I have recently switched to a MacBook Air running OS X 10.8 and I can no longer connect wirelessly to this printer.
    I have tried the following:
    - resetting printer settings from OS X "Preferences" using USB cable.
    - disconnecting USB cable to printer.
    - downloading and installing the latest software drivers for OS X 10.8
    - reconnect USB cable to printer to start printer setup.
The problem arrises when I am performing the set-up task:
    - Screen shows invalid network details and gives me no option to continue.... only to go back to the previous page. I am stuck with no options at the moment.
Attached is the screen-shot of what I'm seeing.
Any help would be very grateful.
    John

From what you describe, you are using a USB cable but the information displayed there is for wireless. What you would want to do is install the printer using the USB cable and selecting USB installation, then use the software to complete the USB to Wireless conversion.
Either this, or you can set up the printer on your wireless network using the wireless setup wizard and then install using Networked - Wireless as the installation type.
    Happy Holidays!

    Hi rjbarnar,
I see you are getting an error on your HP OfficeJet 8600 when trying to connect it wirelessly to your network. Can you please let me know the Exact model of 8600 you are using as well as the current Operating system?
If you have the base model of 8600 the N911a and are running Windows XP or Higher (Vista, 7 or 8) I would like you to go ahead and update the Firmware of the printer:
HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Firmware
    Before starting the upgrade:
The HP Officejet Pro 8600 Firmware flashing (upgrade) requires a wired network or a USB connection.
DO NOT upgrade the printer firmware in a wirelessly connected printer.
If the computer has a firewall installed or enabled, it may block the Firmware Download Utility from accessing the printer. Therefore, please remember to temporarily disable any firewall that may be on the computer, including firewalls such as Microsoft Windows XP Firewall, Sygate, Zone Alarm or BlackICE.
Please click on the How to install tab when on the download page and read all recommendations and the process before installing.

  • Deskjet 460 802.11g wireless setup on Win7

    {Personal Information Removed}
There has to be someone in HP who can explain clearly how to set up a Deskjet 460 with 802.11g card in "infrastructure" mode on a router, using Win7. Surely!
The 460 was not fully supported on Win7, but Win7 has a driver which works with a USB cable. The challenge is how you get an infrastructure network profile into the 802.11g card when the tools on the Starter CD are XP-only - actually, even if they were to work on Win7, they have disappeared from the HP website, so you cannot download them.
Looking at a previous thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Issues-with-DeskJet-460-WiFi-and-Windo...), lots of folks are as frustrated as I am, but nobody has so far answered the key question.
Before dumping XP I created a network profile on a USB stick, using the Starter CD - this was an xml file in a folder named SMRTNTKY. It was supposed to allow me to replicate the settings on other printers (or on mine if I lost the settings). Now, it is not recognised by the printer, but I have no idea why. I have cleared the profile, inserted the USB stick, powered off and on, with no change - the printout still shows the network profile as ad hoc / hpsetup.
I and others need a clearly documented process for creating an infrastructure network profile and for getting it into the printer, so we can use the device with Win7. If this needs software, we need that software to be available for download from the HP website, ideally via links from the reply (since the website is a bit of a mess to navigate. Please help.

    Hi,
Assuming you have WiFi connectivity on your laptop, try setting a temporary ad hoc connection and then use the EWS to connect the printer to your router as a workaround, such a software is not available for Windows 7:
Follow these steps to install the product on the network with the Windows 7 printer driver.
    Turn the product on.
Insert the wireless printer card into the printer.
Reset the wireless network settings on the product:
Reset all of the 802.11 wireless profiles: Press and hold the Power button ( ), press the Cancel ( ) button two times, and then press the Resume button ( ) eight times. Release all buttons.
Click the Wireless icon on your system traym then connect to the HPSETUP netowrk.
Wait two minutes for the printer to obtain an IP Address, and then print a wireless configuration page:
Make sure the product is on and idle.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints.
Locate the IP address / URL printed on this page, type it into your web browser to access its EWS page.
Open the Network / Wireless tab, click the Wireless option or the Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the steps  to connect the pritner to your router.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints. note the listed IP.
