HP Photosmart 7280 ink runs

I have had the printer for almost a month and am still using the specially formulated ink cartridges that came with it.  I have noticed that even if the document I have printed has completely dried the ink will run if even a drop of water should fall on it or I try to use a highlighter.  I have had other HP officejet printers and never had this problem (once the ink dried I could use a highlighter on the document).  Is this something that will clear up when I start using the regular ink cartridges or is this something unique to photosmart printers?  If this problem will persist then I am thinking of exchanging the 7280 for the Officejet 6500.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thank you.

When I select print in iPhoto, the print dialog box shows the image to be printed rotated 90 degrees from its orientation in iPhoto and I cannot find a way to rotate the image to normal to print it. I am using a photosmart 7280 with most up to date driver and my iPhoto is latest version. What can I do???

  • HP Deskjet F4240: ink runs and bleeds through paper and card stock

When I try to print business cards or letters with my new Deskjet F4240, the ink runs and bleeds through the paper or card stock.  The output can't be given to my customers because it looks cheap and unprofessional.  I think the problem is the Vivera ink as I have not encountered this problem in the past using the same paper and card stock, both with HP printers and with other brands of printers, and this is the first printer I've owned that uses Vivera ink.  Are there substitute cartridges that can be used, or do I need to replace the printer with one that doesn't use Vivera ink?  Thanks.

If the ink is bleeding through the paper or card stock it would indicate driver settings do not match the paper type.  Make sure you have selected plain paper of inkjet media depending on the paper type you have.  If you use photo apper settings on plain paper you will get too much ink on the page.

  • My Photosmart 7280 has wet black ink on the bottom of the printer . . why?

When I moved my printer, my hands were stained with black ink.  The cartridge was effectively empty and there was a considerable amount over the bottom of the printer.  No evidence of a leak at the cartridge.  Any ideas?

  • HP Photosmart 5510 Ink-related question

Does the Photosmart 5510 e-All-in-One need ALL 4 colours to work (Yellow,Blue,Magenta,Black) .. Because I only need to print using Black Ink ..

The Photosmart 5510 has permanent printheads. If one or more of the inks are allowed to run dry the printhead can be damaged.  To prevent damage to the printhead you will need to have ink in all the colors and black.
The document here describes how ink is used.  While the document is written for HP Inkjet printers the same principles apply to inkjet printers from other manufacturers.  In the terminology of that document the Photosmart 5510 is an IIC printer.

  • Photosmart 7520 ink cartridges

Q1)  I have a 8 month old Photosmart 7520 with 5 ink cartridge slots.  Previously I have only needed to buy the large black 364XL ink cartridge.  Last week, as my colour had run out,  I bought the 364 4-pack, which to my surprise has a large black, small pink, blue and yellow cartridges  -  no small black.  Can I buy the small black separately?
Q2)  I was also surprised that all 5  ran out simultaneously, whilst still showing a small amount on screen.  Are they designed to stop after so many copies, regardless of any ink left in any of the cartridges?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The small "black" cartridge is a photo cartridge, you can buy a 364 or 364xl photo cartridge separately.
There is a priming process that uses some ink when a cartridge is replaced to remove air from the printheads.  If some cartridges are low on ink (but perhaps not completely depleted) changing a different cartridge may cause enough ink to be used to deplete the low cartridges.
The document here has information on how ink is used in the printer, the Photosmart 7520 is an IIC printer in the terminology of that document.

  • HP Photosmart 5520 Ink Carriage won't move

My husband recently purchased a HP Photosmart 5520 printer while overseas, he shipped in to me in the mail, and it keeps telling me that one or more of the ink cartledges are broken or missing and needs to be replaced, but when I lift open the access door the ink carriage will not move at all and I can't even get it to budge by using my hands, Please help?

You might try doing the reset with access doors closed.  When you plug the power cord back in, you could unplug it once you hear movement in the printer.  Sometimes there is enough movement during startup to unlock the carriage.  If it did move far enough ( I wouldn't force it ), you could move the carriage to the middle and do Solution 4 of the Carriage Jam document.  You could also have a better look on the other side of the carriage to see if there is any paper there.
If that doesn't work, you could try downloading and running the  HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows.  Does that help?

  • HP Photosmart B210a - Ink is not absorbed by HP Advanced Paper

I have had this printer since December and it has never been able to print photos correctly.  I have only used HP Advanced Paper and always been sure to set the printer to HP Advanced when printing.
The ink does not seem to absorb properly in the dark areas of the photo.  Also, I constantly have to clean the cartridge heads, possibly this has to do with the ink not being absorbed properly.  I have spent hours on the phone with tech support and all they can tell me is to run diagnostics and buy new ink cartridges.  Is there a straight forward solution to this issue?  This printer is a replacement for a 5 year old printer that has so far been able to print much better photos.
    Thank you.

Probably a clog in the printhead. Try using the HP Toolbox in the Solution Center, Print Settings and use 'Clean the printheads'.  May need a few runs before seeing acceptable results.

Hello anyone, I want to ask if there is a printer driver for my HP Photosmart 7550 printer to run on Windows 7 Ultimate  64 bit, the card readers are recognised but no drivers for the printer. • Photosmart 7520 ink usage

I have a photosmart 7520 all in one printer.  Question:  When regular black ink cartridge is depleted, does the printer automatically use the photo black cartridge to provide ink in order to continue printing?  If so, does it continue to do so until the photo black cartridge is depleted?

    figubedu
Short answer:  No, the cartridges are not interchangeable in this sense.  The photo black and regular black are for different "black" uses.  Need both.
You might be able to get away with switching the Printing Preferences > Advanced > Print in Grayscale (On)
You might be able to get some sort of output from the printer that way if you really do not want to replace the black cartridge for some reason.   The only issue is the one mentioned:  different backgrounds, image printing, documents, the like -- need different blacks.  ??
Maybe one of our Printer Experts can tell us more.
You can order replacement ink to ship to your location from HP SureSupply
Free shipping and shipping is ultra-fast, too, at least in the USA.
I use the 564XL cartridges of all the colors in my 7520.

  • HP Photosmart 7520 ink overuse

4 years of owning this printer, when it work it is nice (though the self feed is shot and not used much) Problem is I HATE the ink consumption!!!!! I have it in the preset printer config BUT it goes through way too much picture ink. I can't locate the problem or a way to change it. In all the years I have owned it I have to replace the photo black 7 to 1 over the regular black ink.  I still have 2 regular ink carts in the drawer that will likely go bad before I ever need them. Such a waste of product and time.FYI I have the settings on regular, I NEVER have printed even 1 picture (Though I have a whole stink load of paper and envelopes from every  time I purchase a ink kit) If I were not already bald I would pull out my hair. THE ONLY time I can get it to use the regular black cart is when I go to grey scale by manually changing the print settings

    Welcome to the forums @swashington007
If I understand correctly, you are looking to print in black ink only from your Photosmart 7520. I have located a very helpful thread by my colleague @MissTeriLynn that I would like you to see, read and try. • Photosmart D5460 "Ink Waste Bin full"

I got a message 3 months ago saying that the ink waste bin was nearly full and on the forum was told to just ignore it but watch for any spillage.
The message now says ink waste bin full. I run a CISS system and although the cartridges show empty on the HP messages...the ink is supplied via the CISS. If I go into utility and try to align or clean the print heads, I get a message "Printer is in error state. Please resolve the error condition for the devise and try again".
Is this because the ink waste bin is full or because it is showing that all the ink is depleted? or even something else.
I don't want to change my printer since it also prints direct to disks, which newer HP models don't.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks
    Geoff

PAHU - There are two things that I can report today:
SNMP Disabled via LCD panel on the printer
I was able to find, among menu commands, that I can indeed manually disable SNMP on my OKI C6150dn.
SNMP Disabled - Confirmed via direct IP access
I accessed the printer's IP address directly and confirmed that SNMP is indeed disabled.
With SNMP disabled, I attempted to print. However, I was greeted with the same old error message "Ink/toner waste bin full. OPC almost at end-of-life."
    Any other suggestions?

  • Inks running out too fast

I have a HP photosmart premium C309a It is less than 12 months old. I have replaced all the cartridges again about 1 week ago (which was too soon in my book), I have printed about 5 disk labels and four 4x6 prints (not photos) and it is telling me both the magenta and yellow are out again!! THIS CANNOT BE RIGHT. I too have always had HP printers, but not sure they are value for money....
The printer did sit unused for about 2 months....would the inks seriously dry up this quick.....it seems odd that within 2 weeks and only 9 small print jobs some of the ink is out already!
PLEASE HELP, this printer is frustrating the hell out of me,
    Thanks

Is this while only listening to music or are you watching a lot of video? Video eats up battery life very fast (on a 30GB about 2 hours for video vs. 10+ for music).
