HP Photosmart 7510 - I can print but not scan

Hello,
I bought my HP Photosmart a few months ago. It worked fine, and I could print wirelessly from my desktop to the printer, and I could scan from the printer to the desktop computer. In fact, last week I was able to scan.
Today, I wanted to scan something, and I could choose my computer in the list, but got the message that I needed to connect my computer to the printer. I checked what might be wrong, but everything looked okay. I downloaded the scan doctor, and received the message that DeviceSetup.exe could not be found. Which is odd, because when I look in the map, the file is there. I then rebooted the printer, which didn't work. Then I tried to reinstall the drivers on the hp website for my printer, but again got the message that DeviceSetup.exe could not be found.
Next, I removed the printer completely from the computer, reinstalled, and still had the same issue. Except this time in the list to scan to a computer, my desktop is no longer there and I get the message that "on windows, scan to computer will automatically be activated" (I'm translating from Dutch, so in English it could be slightly differently worded).
I retried the scan doctor, and this time I received the message that DeviceSetupLauncher.exe couldn't be found. Again, this is in the directory where it should be. I can see it in the map, but when I click on it, I again get the same notice!
Needless to say, I'm at a loss as to what I could do to fix it. The file I need is right there, but my computer acts like it's not. I'm a student and really need my printer. So I'd be very grateful for any advice on how to fix this problem!
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
For Windows 7 and Windows 8 machine, please keep the printer connected, download and run the following tool:
   http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL50403/mp-122330-1/hppiw.exe
Can you see HP Scan when click Start (Windows 7) ?

I have tried everything to get the program to see my printer.  By reinstalling divice drivers for printer to reinstalling program several times.  Still I can print from my printer but not scan. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the update.
If you can scan with the HP software then at least we know the system can see the scanner.
Can you try the organizer to see if that works any differently. Once you load the organizer, go to the Edit menu and select Preferences -> Scanner - see if that sees it.
Since you are on Elements 12, you still have the twain option available to try. See the following document which describes moving the twain driver.

  • After updating to WIndows 10, I can print but not scan with my HP 2210 all in one

I updated to Windows 10, and since then I'm able to print but not scan with my HP 2210 All-in-one printer.  I've tried downloading the software updates but nothing seems to work.  Any suggestions

Hi , and  I see you are both having trouble scanning after upgrading to Windows 10, and I may be able to help. Most products do have updated software available on HP's support website for Windows 10. I've also seen a few posts that say the Windows 8.1 driver will work for Windows 10 as well, so you could try that too.  HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. I recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor, if it doesn't fix it automatically let me know what errors or messages you receive.  Do you know if you are able to scan using Paint? To Scan from Paint: HP Multifunction Printers - How to Scan: Windows 8
(It's the same for Windows 10, from what I've been told)Right-click the Start button () in the lower left corner of the screen, click Search, and then type Paint.Click Paint in the results.Click File, and then click From scanner or camera.Select your printer, click OK, and then click Scan.  Please let me know if any of these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!  Thanks,

  • Officejet Pro 8600 can print but not scan

My printer occasionally stops scanning. it prints fine so I know the connection is good. I tried to scan from the website, and it does so, but then it gives me this frustrating image, telling me to click on the Save icon. Do you see a Save icon anywhere in this picture, because I don't.
I'm using a new MacBook Pro with updated Yosemite OSX 10.10. I've used this setup before to scan, and nothing has changed. Every once in a while I randomly encounter this problem, and then just as randomly it resolves.

Hi @alissas , welcome back to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having scan issues.  I would like to try and help!
From time to time using webscan, you may come across formatting and layout issues.  I would recommend right-clicking the box on the right, that should allow you to save. I am including your picture to help identify that box:
As for the other scan issues, I am including a couple of documents I would suggest running through that should help:
Mac OS X: Scanning Software Does Not Open or Stops Responding
A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays When Scanning for HP Officejet...
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Can print but not scan to PC over VPN - M521dn

I have been having consistant issues scanning over a VPN, in a corporate branch office situation.  Though I've had this issue with multiple HP devices, I'll focus on the M521dn I'm currently working on.
In the corporate office, we have a server running multiple Windows 7-64 virtual desktops.  In the brancho office we have the above mentioned device connected to the network.  After the initial installation of the HP software on a virtual desktop, the print and scan to PC functions from the HP software work fine, however after logging off then back on, the printing functions remain, but when scanning, the software says that it can't find the device.
Generally we can run the installation software and re-connect as a new wired network device, though this becomes tedious to have to basicall reinstally the software every single morning.  I have to go through the same reinstallation when users take laptops between offices.
It seems that either the HP scan software or the proprietary HP network ports have trouble reconnecting for scanning when the computers are on different subnets for any period of time, and/or restarted in the process.
Ideally I could just install a basic TWAIN driver to get the scan features that I need, though this insistance by HP to only allow TWAIN when the entire scan portion of the software package is installed, leaves us no other option.
I have attempted to change the printer port to a basic TCP/IP port with no success, I've tried just the basic drivers, but that lacks TWAIN, I've tried the third party print solutions suggested in the support article, and I have run through other processes with no success.
Thanks in advance if anyone has a solution.

I'd also like to add that we can scan to a network folder from the device to a server share across the VPN, so there aren't any NAT issues, however we do need the TWAIN interface to the PC to work for direct scanning into one of our software packages.

  • Can print but not scan wirelessly with Cannon MX860

I have a MacBook Pro (mid 2009) and just upgraded to Mountain Lion this week. Everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to use my scanner. I use the "Open Scanner" interface that comes with OS X as opposed to the Cannon scanner software because for me it's just more intuitive and easier to use. I tried to open the "Open Scanner" function for my MX860, but all that came up was a grey box with the 'Scan" and "Hide Details" buttons greyed out. When I had Lion and launched this function, my computer would automatically lanuch a preview scan of whatever it was I was trying to scan.
I tried deleting my printer and scanner from my print/scan queue, but now I can only re-install the printer. How do I add the scanning function back into the queue so I can use the "Open Scanner" function to scan wirelessly from my MX860?
NOTE: I am not interested in using the Cannon Scanner software to scan. I want to use the scanning software that comes with OS X. Please help!

    Hello havenrock,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some scanning issues when attempting to scan to your computer with a wireless connection.
When scanning over a wireless connection, one of the more common issues is the Firewall or anti virus blocking communication.  I suggest you disable the firewall and the anti virus protection and then reboot the computer.
Once the computer is back on, attempt the scan again.
Let me know how you make out and if you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
    Cheers,

  • Can print but not scan in Windows 8.1 to HP Office Jet 4500 510n-z

New computer over the weekend with Windows 8 installed.  Upgraded to 8.1online   My HP Office Jet all-in-one 4500 prints fine, but I have no way to scan.   I tried using the HP website to download and install the full driver.  When it gets to the installation page, it just hangs on the page trying to communicate with my printer.   Cannot get past that page.
I also tried the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility.   It recognizes my HP all-in-one, but when it goes to the first step of communicating with the selected product, it gets about 3/4 done and then just hangs.
I have tried disabling my firewall.  Still no luck.
I tried going to Device Manager and having it searched for updated drivers.  It says the current driver is up-to-date.
I tried Windows Fax and Scan.  When I choose New Scan, it says I have no scanner installed.
Somewhere there is a big error in this mess that is not allowing my printer and Windows to allow this driver to be fixed.  HELP!

    Hello 8latinfans,
I understand that when you are installing the full featured software, that it hangs on communicating with the product. I have included the following document, 'The Progress Bar on the Software Installation Stops or Stalls'. This will walk you through different steps to try and get the software installed.
If the above document fails to resolve the issue, please let me know if there are any specific error messages that you do get.
    Thank you.

  • 7510 eFax Can Receive but not Send

I have set up my 7510 printer wirelessly to my computer and can print from my computer to the printer.  Have also set up eFax and can received faxes OK.. However, when I attempt to send an eFax, the wheel spins for a while then comes back with error "Printer not connected to a network."  But it is connected to a network and all wireless settings on the 7510 display reflect that.  What is wrong and what to do?   Printer is only a few months old and still under warranty.  Checking for updates comes back that there are none.
    This question was solved.

You can try contacting HP support, but I do not think that is going to resolve the issue.
Arris is a common manufacturer of Comcast gateways, modems, and router combo units.
The Arris TG-862 does appear to have an issue with sending eFaxes. I believe the Arris TG-862 is the newest model provided by Comcast.
If you could, verify the model of the router.
If it is the Arris TG-862, then contact Comcast to see if they have a firmware update available.  If they do not have an update available, see if they can provide a different model modem/router combo unit or disable the router side of it and use a standalone such as a Netgear or Linksys/Cisco with their modem.
In the event they do not have a firmware update, I highly recommend seeing if they can exchange for a different model first.
With this model of router, what seems to be happening is that the Arris TG-862 is not processing the eFax data properly and drops the packet.  This results in a lost transmission to the eFax servers.  However, receiving an eFax works strictly through HP's ePrint by email and this is successful because it is a very different method from sending.  The reason HP support will not be able to resolve this issue is because it is isolate to the router.  Unfortunately, there are no alternative settings to make this work on the Arris TG-862.

  • Print but not Scan

My networked multifunction scanner is not showing up in Photoshop Elements 9's File | Import menu; so I can't scan on that computer (but I can Print to the same multifunction [it's also a networked Printer] with Elements 9 on that computer.
Photoshop Elements 8 on my other computer has no issues.  Both computers are identically-configured Windows XP Pro sp3.
On the 'problem' computer I've tried un-/re-installing the multifunction's drivers several times (including uninstalling with Revo).
    Any advice, please?

When I do that, I get:
    Install the TWAIN interface:

That does put the scanner in File | Import, but when I select it I get these in succession:
(I do have a C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\ but in it is only a MP830 folder, and a wiatwain.ds file.  MP830 is a multifunction scanner I no longer have.)

  • Driver question - my all in one printer will print but not scan

    Hi
I have an HP c4280 (you know, the all in one printer you could get for free with the mail in rebate in 2007). I just plug it in and my mac recognizes it as a printer, and it prints fine, but image capture does not recognize it as a scanner. Before I upgraded to leopard I had all of HP's stupid software installed but after upgrading to leopard it didn't work (surprise). A lot of other things didn't work either so I did an erase and install and now everything works beautifully (I feel like I have old Tiger back, but better). However, I do not want to install HP's stupid overbloated and highly unnecessary mountain of software on my nice new clean system (I have turned into kind of an apple-only purist I guess ^_^). I checked HP's website and all they have is the same ginormous software bundle for download, and the installation wizard does not allow the option to install only components of the software (its all 28 programs or nothing). So, my question is, does anybody know where I can find only the driver I need (or WHAT driver I need) to make this printer compatible with image capture so I can scan?

You need to download the full featured driver from the HP site, and it also seems HP has an update for the Leopard installation as well.

I too have a C4280 and wasn't able to use my scanner until I had fully installed the HP software.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 - will print wirelessly but not scan on Windows 8.1. HP PC

    Hello,
my HP printer and HP computer have been working perfectly but now all of a sudden I cannot scan anymore from my printer to my computer. I can print and scan the other way around and the wireless network works. I am just a regular user and don't feel sure about how to uninstall and re-install programs, so I would be very happy if you had just a simple fix
I already tried closing down everything and unplugging the router, then plugging the router and turning everything on again but it didn't help.

    Hi @gabmus,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you can print but not scan wirelessly with your HP Officejet pro 8600 on Windows 8.1. I am happy to help you with your scanning issue!
To verify the printer's hardware is working, are you able to make copies with the printer? Copying a Multipage Original.
In the meantime, please go through the steps in this scanning guide, A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays When Scanning for HP Officejet....
Hope this helps, and have a great day!

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus will print wirelessly but not scan

I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus all in one printer/copier/scanner. It's worked fine for the several months I have had it. But now suddently the computer does not recognize the scanner. I am connected to the device wirelessly and can print but not scan. I haven't been able to figure out why the comptuer recognizes the printer but not the scanner. I uninstalled and reinstalled the device but still no success.
Any ideas how I can get the computer to recognize the scanner? I am running Windows 8. Have not updated to 8.1.

Hello Sarah1234, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing scanning issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend powering off your printer and computer.  Once they are both down, I would recommend unplugging the power from your wireless router for 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in.  Once it has begun broadcasting again, power on your printer and computer.
I would also recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. Once you have launched the tool, select the 'fix scanning' option.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • C5288 all-in-one printer is not scanning.

My C5288 all-in-one printer was working nicely.  However, for the last one month, I am not able to scan on the machine. The driver has been uninstalled completely and re-installed several times.  When the installation is being completed, a fatal error message is getting appeared - no error number is shown.  When Hp Solution centre short cut is clicked, it is showing a message "no HP device have been found".  I can print, but no scanning is being done.  This clearly shows that there is something wrong with the OCR portion of the software.
Can you kindly guide me to solve this problem. [text removed for privacy]

If you have not installed the full feature software and driver already, you will need to do so in order for the printer to see that computer. Please use the following link to download the necessary software; HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2520hc All-in-One Printer Full Feature Software and Drivers.
