HP Photosmart 7960 Not Shown in Print Drivers

I finally pulled the trigger and bought a MacBook Pro last Monday. I have a lot to learn having come from a PC background. I have an HP Photosmart 7960 printer hard-wired to a desktop PC running Windows XP. I use a wireless network with a Linksys router for a laptop PC also running Windows XP that shares that printer. I am trying to get my new Mac to share that printer wirelessly as well. It can find the printer on my network and then asks me to choose a printer driver from the drop-down list. The HP Photosmart 7900 series is not in the drop-down list even thought that driver is supposed to be part of the Leopard 10.5.8 OS without downloading from HP. As a matter of fact HP doesn't even offer that driver up to download because it already comes on the operating system. I picked one at random (HP Photosmart 7550 Gutenprint 5.1.3) and it will print, but that can't be the right way to go in the long run. I've been back to the Apple Store where I bought the laptop and they don't know what to tell me to do. I'm hoping someone has solved this issue so I can enjoy my new Mac.

Hi! There are 4 7900 series drivers included in Leopard however at installation not all of them may have been chosen. I think you will have to use the install disc to install the additional drivers if they weren't installed originally.
List of drivers HERE. Tom
From Apple:
Installing printer drivers
All included printer drivers are installed by default with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. If you custom install, you can select which printer driver packages you would like installed. The Apple LaserWriter PPDs and sample drivers included with CUPS are installed as part of the Essential System Software package and cannot be customized or installed separately from Mac OS X.
If you would like to install any of the optional printer drivers after installing Mac OS X, insert the Install disc into your computer and use Optional Installs.

    Hi Kamala,
1 Try to Print it and see whether it is printing or not , sometimes images will be overlapped with other windows so if u can print and  see ,then we can know whats the issue , if its the printer or dimensions ..
2 also try to Print the Signature from SE78  and see whether it is printing..

  • Powerbook not recognizing hp printer drivers

so, my powerbook for some reason is not recognizing new HP printer drivers. this has happened twice now with two different printers (both mac-compatible). this is a new thing--i used to use an HP printer quite happily with this laptop.
    here's what happens:
i install. installation is successful, hooray. the hp device manager opens, i choose my device (the Deskjet F300, in this case), and i'm ready to go.
i open Word to print a doc. i get an error saying "word cannot print due to a problem with the current printer."
i open my Print Preferences panel and lo and behold, there's no printer in the list. i click the [+] button to add a printer.
my Printer Browser appears. the DJ F300 appears in the list as a USB device (there are no other printers). I select it.
in the subwindow below, i see this:
    -printer name: Deskjet F300
    -location: home
-print using: [dropdown menu of printer drivers]
i can't proceed until i select a driver. the F300 is not listed among the HP drivers in the dropdown menu, so i click the button that says More Printers.
the AppleTalk browser opens. there are no printers, but after a moment, a dialog box pops up saying a new driver has been detected, and do i want to reload the browser? i click OK to reload the browser.
and nothing happens. the driver still does not appear anywhere.
i have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, both from the CD and by downloading it from HP's site. i have run disk utility, but it didn't help. does anyone have any ideas?
if this is at all related--my computer also doesn't recognize that i've agreed to my iTunes user agreement (i have to re-agree every time i launch iTunes) and it doesn't remember that i want make iPhoto my default (although i click OK every time). it also won't remember changes to my screen saver--all small, annoying things i can live with, but maybe a clue to what's not working?

Liz, when you download the new drivers from HP's site download them to your desktop, then open HP's folder, and drag the download to this folder it could be located in the Applications folder or the Utility folder, Then and only after you drag it in the HP folder double click it to launch the drivers.
When you use the installer or just plug in the USB it may or maynot print. This will normally give you the folder I speak of in one or more locations. When you go to Hp's site it normally will not download the upates and drivers to that folder and launch them. You have to double click them.

  • Print driver is not shown in "Print Using:" menu

I have a HP psc 2410 printer that I have connected directly to my Mac, but I want to connect it though my Windows PC which is my home server. The printer works fine when it is connected via the USB cable and the driver listed after "Print Using:" in the add new printer box is called "hp all-in-one 2.2.9". When I try to add the same printer via the Windows network I see it the printer, but when I try to find the driver in the "Print Using:" menu, I don't find it. How can it be there for the USB connection, but not for the network connection? Where do I find it, if it isn't in that driver list?
    Thank you!

Print drivers written using the older Mac printer driver model specifically list the type of connections they support. Most of these old style drivers do not support Windows printing. I think that is what you are seeing.

  • Printer drivers will not download

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 2113 sa laptop running W7 Premium 64 bit & a HP Photosmart Premium c309g-m all in one printer. They are connected by a USB cable. (too many problems running a wireless system).
I can not reload the printer drivers.
Printer function always runs perfectly but very occassionally I use the scanner & that nearly always causes problems. Tried to scan a document but could not do it by selecting 'Computer' on printer window so used a memory stick but it saved the letter as a JPEG file not a PDF. Strange! I could not change the setting to PDF. Then got a message telling me that the printer drivers were not functioning. Went online, followed good advice to uninstall the printer software & reinstall. I have tried this about 3 times using my CD (V14.1) & 3 times downloading the software (v14.1) from HP website but it always gets stuck at the last section. The NEXT box on the CONNECT YOUR DEVICE NOW is always greyed out so I can not complete the process.
After uninstalling the software the printer does not appear in the START>DEVICES & PRINTERS. After installing it as far as it will go,  I can see or can add my printer in this area. In fact, the last time I tried, 2 printer descriptions were there: c309g-m & c309g-m BT.  Not sure what the BT refers to.
The loss of printer drivers has happened several times since I bought it & is always problamatic trying to sort it out, but this time it will just not respond. Any ideas would be most welcome. PS I am reasonably savvy with my computer but not that technical so please keep replies simple. Thank you.

Update... After I posted the above question, I read here in another thread about somebody else having this problem and being instructed by a Brother support person to do a hard reboot of the computer right after the message appears from Apple that it "Can't install the software for [insert name of printer] because it is not currently available on the Software Update server."
I just tried this with the HP printer and, lo and behold, the printer appeared as installed after the reboot. I have also tested the printer and the Macbook does, indeed, print to it.  I have no idea why this trick worked, but I thought I should pass it on to others.  Now, I will try the same trick with the Brother printer and, hopefully, it will also install. Since the Brother is a combination printer/ fax/ scanner we shall see if the hard boot trick gets all of these features to work equally.
But I still don't understand why Apple itself is not posting this fix as a temporary solution to what obviously is a bug in Mountain Lion.  Customers should not have to be relegated to looking on Apple Community boards like this to resolve software problems that Apple created and should be acknowledging it is aware of, is working on resolving and, in the meantime, has a workaround to suggest.

  • Windows 7 64 bit OS will not install any HP print drivers

My HP Pavilion p7-1297cb pc which is running windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS will not install any HP print drivers. All my windows updates are current, HP print and scan doctor did not fix it, I also tried MS fix it manager and did not work.  When I try to use my HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus installation CD or HP's download center, software almost installs, but says print drivers will not install.  Also, I tried using USB connection and windows tries to install software, but does not work.  Same for HP print driver support.   I tried installing 3 different HP printers I had and all had the same issue. Any ideas on why my system will not allow any print drivers to install?

    Hi rrfhp,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand none of the HP drivers will fully install.
I will be happy to help you.
Are you signed in as the Administrator of the computer?
I would turn off all start up programs to make sure there isn't something blocking the printer.
Click on start, in the search box type in run, enter, then type in msconfig, click OK.
    Click the Services tab.
Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
Click Disable All, and then click OK.
Then click on the start up tab at the top.
    Click on disable all.
    Reboot the computer.
Temporarily turn off any Antivirus software.
Then run the installation again by right clicking on the setup and selecting run as Admininstrator.
Don't connect the USB cable until prompted.
    Try printing now.
Then go back into msconfig and enable the All Microsoft Services and enable all on the start up tab.
Turn the Antivirus software back on again.
Please let me know the results if you are still having issues.
Are you getting any error messages?

  • Printer CD will not install software and drivers

    Laptop: Acer Aspire 3690 series
    Model: BL50
OS: Windows Vista SP2 Home Basic (32 bit)
    Printer: HP Desktop F4100 series
*To my knowledge both laptop and printer are old models, with the laptop being as old as 7 years.
Short Story: After formatting my laptop and reinstalling the OS, the CD won't install the drivers from the disc so the printer would work correctly on my computer. It always results in an error.
Long Story: My Windows Vista laptop had an issue. There was a problem with the OS that kept mysteriously eating up space of the computer hard drive. It was so bad that the computer kept reporting it had 0 bytes of free space left on the hard drive. I always had to find free up space somehow because the printer won't print without free space. I couldn't even use my superiorly better computer because the printer only works with Windows 2000, XP and Vista, it doesn't work with Windows 7 (I tried). One day I decided I had enough of it and reinstalled the OS of the laptop. I used DriverMax and exported all of the drivers from my laptop to my flash drive since I don't remember my laptop coming with a driver disc. Everything went smooth and my laptop was operating like new except for one issue: No matter how many times I tried, I could not install the printer drivers from the printer disc onto the computer.
When the disc is installing the drivers and software, this would show:
    and then this error:
I wasn't sure if I there was a model number on the printer or not but here is a photo of it:
Getting help from the HP Support forum seems to be my only option so hopefully I can find a solution here. Thank you to anyone in advance who can help me resolve this I would really like to get this fix as I not too long ago bought several cartridges for this printer to last a while, and there's not much money to buy a printer OR another computer.
    This question was solved.

  • Hp photosmart 7960 and Vista

I have a brand new HP which came with Windows Vista.  I have a used printer, an hp photosmart 7960.  When I put the installation disc in, a little screen comes up that says "Checking System."  The computer asks me if I really want to install it since it doesn't recognize it and it might cause problems.  I tell it to install anyway.  Howevere, the "Checking System" disc goes nowhere.  The 0% stays at 0%.  The directions that came with the printer say to disable the virus protector before installing program.  I spent all afternoon trying to install--with and without the virus protection disabled.  Is the photosmart 7960 not compatible with Vista?  Or am I missing something?  I am not particfularly computer literate, so if you have suggestions,  please be clear and simple.

Unplug the USB cable from the printer to the computer if you have installed it, then download the driver from HP's website here.  Start with the basic driver.  After the install is complete download and install the update from the same link.

  • Macbook pro and photosmart 7960 connection greyed out.

Macbook pro 10.7.5 Lion. trying to connect a HP photosmart 7960. via USB, the printer used to work on my macbook pro ,  every box is now greyed out , Add, print & scan. I hagve tried everything to no avail.
When connected to my sons macbook it regsters but reads not connected.
    Edward.

    Hello Edward,
    Thank you for clarifying.
I would first suggest performing a cold reset to the printer by following these steps
Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.
If the same persists, may you have any other PC? (e.g. a Windows PC) to have a test on it?
That in order to double check, as the issue seems too common for both of the Macs and likely to indicate an hardware failure with the USB port of the printer...

    Shlomi

  • Any guess on how long it will take for HP to come up with laserjet printer drivers for LION?

HP does not have the printer drivers available for the Mac OSX 10.7 (LION) for the HP Laserjet 2420/2430 series; which has been true for previous OSX releases also?  Just wondering if it's 1-3 months, or more before our printers can be expected to work again.  Is it long enough to just abandon LION for a while, and go back to SnowLepard?

Since this is for an HP product support, you might want to visit their site:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us &prodNameId=412123&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=416419&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEn vOID=4082
They'll be able to estimate time of delivery better than Apple, who doesn't make HP drivers.

  • Embedded Fonts are not shown anymore

When I create a PDF from a Word Doc, the embedded Fonts are not shown anymore. In the previous Version it was working perfectly. My version is currently 11.0.10.

Thank you for your feedback. The Job im using is simple take a word document converting it into a pdf format. If this is done I will see it in my Acrobat view. There is no fonts at all. The System is notifying me that the font "ETBFGYI+DIN-Regular" are not embedded. And there will be some character not shown or printed correctly. I didn't change anything on the setting of Acrobat. I'm using this Acrobat almost for 2 years and I never had any problem. The Problem came up after the last update of the software to version 11.01.10.

  • Macbook Printer Drivers

When I installed Leopard, I chose not to install printer drivers... but now I realize how handy they really are, to be able to plug into any printer anywhere and have it recognize it.
My question is, now that I chose not to install them, where can I get them from?

Insert the OS X Installer Disc One into the optical drive. Open the Optional Installs folder. The installer is inside.

  • Pdf print drivers

I installed acrobat 8.0 on my new window 8.1 pc. The old application works fine except that the install did not install the print drivers.
I used to be able to create pdf's form word, excel, etc.
    How can I resolve this?

    Hey edwardo77227845,
Please note that Acrobat 8 has not been tested and is incompatible on Windows 8 platform.
Even if you install the software successfully, you will face issues with the same.
I would recommend you to install a version (the latest one is Acrobat DC) that is fully compatible with Windows 8.1
You can download a 30-day free trial version of Acrobat DC from here:
Download Adobe Acrobat free trial | Acrobat Pro DC
Just give a try and then let me know how it goes.
    Hope you will like it.
