HP Photosmart 8250 color issues

Ive read all the threads about color issues on the 8250.  Most have no responses.  A couple had tips on what to try and I've tried them all.  Ive cleaned the heads, ran maintenance, aligned heads, turned it off and on.  Ive cleaned the heads so many times Ive used half of my ink on two cartridges.  I just spent $50 on a completely new set of ink cartridges and just replaced them all.  Each time I do the head cleaning the colors get worse.
I'm about ready to throw this thing out the window.  This is the 3rd printer we have purchased in the last 7 years from HP and I will probably never buy another again!  It seems they always have a similar problem like this and always during Christmas when I'm trying to do a bunch of printing!
Does anyone know what else to do?  I'm assuming the head is bad or something but how can I tell for sure.  Or..is there a way to manually clean it.  I dont want to spend any more money on this thing...its starting to become cheaper to just replace it again but it seems pretty ridiculous for these printers to only last a couple year.

Hi,
You can logon to your ePrint account to check. Most likely due to no inks. Replace color ink cartridges will help.
FYI: I ran few tests over the weekend on my loan 7510 (with one empty color cartridge) it refused to print at the beginning but it printed a document after that.
Regards.

  • Photosmart 8250 colors are way off

Photosmart 8250 has been a great printer for several years. (out of warranty now of course) I haven't had any paper or photo, 4x6, feeding problems at all, and have only had one paper jam. Lately the color printing has gone bad. I use only HP inks, never have used a "refill" in the printer. Lately I saw an error on the printers screen, it was about the paper sensor being faulty. I only saw this once. There also has been a small red blotch on the bottom edge of some of the prints, this is new, so I am pretty sure I need this printer serviced. It still looks new and has been without all of the other issues I read about I would rather have this one fixed rather than an exchange.
The paper sensor supposedly senses the type of paper and sets the printing parameters accordingly as I understand this so far. I have never taken this printer apart, but I have done so on other printers. Has anyone replaced a paper sensor in a printer such as this? Maybe its not a big deal, but then again, maybe its better that a tech that does it all of the time should do it?
Today is Sunday after Christmas, i will call HP support, this week but any advice in the meantime.

The paper sensor is used when the paper type is set to "Automatic", you can override this by setting the paper type manually in the driver.

  • Photosmart 8250 colors are off

My Photosmart 8250 has suddenly started printing with either very red or very blue images. I did all of the printer tests, color calibration, etc. and those all are OK. I also have new or current ink cartridges, so that isn't the problem, but no matter how I manipulate the images in my photo software, the printed images are very red/orange or faded and blue.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • My photosmart 8250 prints the headings & color blocks on the diagnostic pages, but not the text.

My photosmart 8250 suddenly stopped printing ( I have Windows 7). The cartridges have ink & there are no error mssgs. The self-test disgnostic prints the headings, borders & color blocks, but not the text under each heading. I ran the diagnostic utility & it said there were too many print jobs (?) and I cancelled them as directed.I re-ran the test & It  said there were no problems found. But it still isn't printing. I went to the control panel and ran THAT diagnostic & it said it found some problem with the USB connection, but that it was resolved. But, it STILL won't print.  I tried everything the diagnostic utility suggested - uninstalled and reinstalled the updated  software & driver, restarted the computer, etc. and it still won't print.

Hi - Try following the steps in this document.  It will walk you through cleaning the rollers, which in many cases is the cause of this type of problem.
    Hope that helps.

  • Overriding Ink Expiration Issue On PhotoSmart 8250

I'm trying to remotely (250 miles away) help my elderly mother get her PhotoSmart 8250 to print a list of 7 names.  She's getting an ink expiration message on the computer.  I've read that it is possible to override this message and continue printing.
Does anyone know the exact procedure/key strokes to override the ink expiration message and allow her to print the list?
It's either that or I have to spend 6 hrs of my life driving to her, so I can fix it for her.  I'd prefer to just talk her through the process on the phone.
    Thanks in advance

  • My HP Photosmart 8250 will not print in black.

    Hi,
My HP Photosmart 8250 will not print in black. I saw previous posts stating that it will not print in black if any of the color cartridges are empty, but all of the cartridges have ink. Thank you!

  • Photosmart 8250 constant maintenance cycles while printing & excessive ink usage

I'm having a problem with my trusty 4-year-old HP Photosmart 8250: Whenever I print a document, whether in color or black ink only mode, it constantly enters maintenance cycles and excessively uses ink.
Two examples: When I printed a color document (color, HP Bright White Inkjet Paper, 17 pages), the printer behaved erratically, with constant maintenance cycles. It also said I had to change yellow ink, but when I re-turned on the printer to install a fresh yellow ink cartridge (I only use original HP ink), it still showed remaining yellow ink. Then yesterday, when I printed a 32 page graphics document (black ink only, plain paper, normal), the ink meter for black dropped from full to 25% full (I had changed the black cartridge only one week earlier), and the printer went through four maintenance cycles. Neither had happened before in my four years of owning this printer, and the black ink consumption for similar documents in the past was barely a quarter of what it was for this document.
Are these issues most likely related to the printhead? I know that the Photosmart 8250, like all printers with HP 02 cartridges, uses a fixed non-replaceable printhead, so does the printhead need cleaning or alignment? Or should I just get a new HP printer, as I have used this printer extremely frequently over the past 4 years?
    Thanks for all your help!

    Hi johnpd,
There have been some significant upgrades to photo printing and the inks since the MP610 was introduced.  With the MG7120, and the XL ink tanks (which are comparably priced to the standard ink tanks used in the MP610), you should receive similar or greater page yields.  One major reason for this boost is the addition of the gray CLI-251 ink.  When gray appears in your printout, instead of using a mixture of all the other colors, the gray ink is used, reducing your overall ink consumption.
At the risk of sounding like a typical salesman, "I want to get you in the model that is right for you"!  If you are looking for a photo printer, the MG7120 is one of my top suggestions for a quality Photo All-in-One.  If however, you do not plan to make heavy use of the printer and only occasionally print photos, you might get more value from an Office All-in-One.

  • Yellow printing no black HP Photosmart 8250

Hi.  I've purchased new cartridges, recalibrated the printer (still prints gree and yellow only) did diagnostic tests (said everything was fine) , turned off the printer --HP Photosmart 8250-- and back on and still it won't print in black.  Even the Extended self test diagnostic pages are unreadable--in super light yellow ink--but it's a brand new black (and all) cartridges, and yes they are HP cartridges.  Please help!  Thx!

    Hi Bill,
I understand you're having an issue with your printer not printing all colors. I'm sorry to hear this has been happening but I will certainly do my best to help you.
I will just need to ask, what is the model number of the HP printer you have?
Once I know which printer you have I should be able to help you better!

  • Not enough memory Photosmart 8250

Whenever I try to print a color photograph (5 x 7) at a resolution higher than 600dpi I get a Not Enough Memory error.
Is there a way to add memory as the instructions are not clear if this is possible?

    Hi @WCW2015,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are getting a not enough memory error when printing a photo from Windows 7 to your HP Photosmart 8250. I am happy to look into this for you!
You cannot add more memory, however here are some other options:
Take a look through this guide, 'Not Enough Memory' Message Displays in Microsoft Windows XP When Printing. (Even though it states XP, the steps can work on Windows 7.)
What program are you scanning from?
Have you been able to make copies?
I would also suggest going through this How to Scan guide, How to Scan: Windows 7, select How to scan with non HP software, and try these other alternate methods of scanning.
Hope this information helps, and hope to hear from you soon!

  • HP Photosmart 8250 will no longer recognize photos downloaded from Facebook. Any ideas?

I used to download and print photos from Facebook, but the HP Photosmart 8250 will no longer recognize these files on the SD card.  I believe Facebook recently updated it's photo format (incidentally, older images on Facebook still work fine).  Any ideas?
I'm running Windows XP, and have not changed anything on my setup.

The troubleshooting steps in this document may help resolve the issue of black not printing.  If not see the post here.

  • HP 7260: Photo tray = color issues (pink photos)

    Hi,
I have a 7260 and it's working fine, as long as you don't use the photo tray.
Today I tried to print a couple of photos on advanced hp photo paper.
No problems at all, except that the picture is completely... pink.
So I tried to mangle with the color settings (in windows) and eventually ended up with 6 pink pictures.
Since I thought this was a settings error, I tried printing straight from the SD memory card.
I figured that if there was no computer involved, there wouldn't be any setting issues either.
And thus I ended up with 7 pink pictures.
I finally decided this would probably be an ink issue, but to make sure I tried to print the same photo on a regular A4 sheet.
And... no color issues there! Printing on regular A4 sheets works just fine!
Any idea how I could make the printer print the right colors on the right paper?

I suggest opening the Print & Scan System Preferences, then highlight your HP Photosmart printer in the printers list and delete it by pressing the minus sign. Now, re-add the printer by clicking on the plus sign and select the printer. Make sure that the 'Print Using:' pull down aut selects the correct driver for your printer. If it doesn't, pull down the list and manually select the correct driver using the 'Select Printer Software' option. Hopefully that will resolve your issue.

  • IPhone 5s screen color issues

Got a 5s, love, however I was wondering, the color white seems "yellowish". I was able to get one (AT&T) through Best Buy, and ordered one through Apple. • Camera Raw 8.7.1 color issues

After the recent camera raw update to 8.7.1 I have noticed some pretty bad color shifts between camera raw and photoshop cs6. The colors in camera raw look very saturated and then when moving into photoshop the saturation shift is pretty dramatic. I never had these issues before the update. I have attached a screenshot illustrating the color issue. I am working on a very good monitor ( NEC PA 242W ) and it is color calibrated using NEC Spectraview calibration system. I have double checked my color setting in photoshop and camera raw to make sure I was viewing the same color space. I am just wondering if this is maybe a bug in the update and others are experiencing the same issues or if I am just missing something.
I would also add that I am using the Creative Suite CS6 and not CC. If that makes a difference.

Thanks ssprengel for the suggestions and running a side by side yourself. I went through all my settings and applied your suggestions and did a side by side each time. I even uninstalled the entire creative suite on my system then reinstalled and updated and I still get the same outcome. It was fine yesterday with the previous version of ACR. It seems like the updated version is not showing the image preview in any color space. When I switch the color space in the workflow options the histogram changes but it doesn't seem to affect the preview window. And yes the preview button was checked on it was just when I was using the screen grab tool in windows it took focus away from the application so that is why the settings appear grayed out. I have attached more screen grabs below illustrating all my settings. Also here is some system info if anyone out there has a similar setup and would be willing to test.

  • Photoshop CC Color Issues

When I updated my Photoshop program two updates ago I began having color issues in Photoshop as the rest of the Adobe Suite.  Regardless of whether the color mode is RGB or CMYK the colors appear washed out on the program.  This image http://i.imgur.com/BWVwbx2.jpg  is an example. The image on the right is a screen shot of the original image of the shoes copied from the website, the image on the left is the same image copied into photoshop. When I try to save the RGB file as a jpeg or a PDF it looks the same as it did in the program, washed out.  However,  when the file is CMYK color mode and I try to save it as a jpeg or PDF it looks like this http://i.imgur.com/TAUyeOf.jpg. Both my coworker and I started having this issue on our seperate computers around the same time so I don't believe that it is a graphics card issue or something along those lines. How can I fix this?  I have tried calling Adobe support, but unfortunately the person on the phone was not very experienced in the program and unable to help.
    Some Info about my computer:
Currently I have Photoshop CC with the 14.2.1 update.  I have Windows 7 Professional SP1, 64-bit OS,  8 GB of RAM (7.87 GB Usable) and 360 GB free space on the (C:) drive.

Illustrator and Windows Photo Viewer agree. They should, because they're both fully color managed. I assume Photoshop shows the same.
Picasa is not color managed. All bets are off there, it can display like anything under the sun, depending on what color space the file was created in, and how your monitor displays color.
There is a basic checklist for color management issues:
1 - is the application color managed at all?
2 - is there an embedded document profile, and what is it?
3 - what is the monitor profile?
We've established #1. For #2, see in the lower left corner of the Photoshop image window. Click the little arrow and check "document profile". What does it say?
#3 is often the critical one. This is where your calibrated monitor profile should be - but if you don't do that, it's often a manufacturer supplied profile. These are often worse than worthless. The best option here is to use sRGB if you have a standard gamut monitor (like the U2412) - or Adobe RGB if you have a wide gamut monitor (like your co-worker's U3011). Yes, there is a significant difference between these two.
    Anyway:
Go to Control Panel > Color Management > Devices. Set sRGB IEC61966-2.1 as your default monitor profile there and relaunch Photoshop:
With this setting, Photoshop, Illustrator and Windows Photo Viewer will display  (more or less) correctly. It could still be that the file had the wrong document profile, or none at all, but the file will display correctly as it is.

  • Color issues

Hi, I recently installed Creative Suite Web Premium, and have
weird color issues. If I open a jpeg in fireworks it looks correct,
but if I open it PhotoShop CS3 or Windows Photo Gallery the colors
look REALLY bright, not even close.
Any Ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks

In Photoshop, try turning off View > Proof Colors.
If that doesn't work, try Edit > Assign Profile and choose
    "Don't Color Manage This Document."
If that doesn't work, try Edit > Color Settings and set
    the "Settings" to "Monitor RGB."
