Hp photosmart b8550 constantly sticks in print queue

Several times a day I have to use the hp diagnostic utility to clear my print queue.
My printer repeatedly prints the same thing over and over even after I press cancel.
The waste in paper and ink is phenomenal. I'm at my wit's end.
I've never had this problem with any other printer.
This is the most I've spent for a printer and it is so dysfunctional.
I know I'm old and not terribly savvy technologically speaking, but can anyone please help.
Thanks....simple language please.  Sandy

  • Hp photosmart C7280 says "stopped" in print queue and won't print!

I just bought an hp photosmart C7280 today. It was a pretty simple setup with the actual printer and network and all. i download the updated driver from the hp website and all seemed kosher there too. now i click "print" and on the print queue page it says "stopped" and won't print!
ahhh please help? is this a good printer with macs anyways? it seemed kinda loud during the setup...

I too have gone through most of the problems described here but have finally been able to get the c7280 working properly, yet I'm still not very happy with the solution.
For connectivity reasons, I wanted to connect the aio to my network via ethernet cable directly to my router. While my computers will access the network wirelessly, I wanted the printer to have a solid connection. Unfortunately, I was never (and still can't) get it to work properly using this connection. What finally did work was using the wireless connection in the printer to connect to the network.
Why this would work wirelessly and not while directly connected is something no one has been able to explain. I still have the printer right next to my wireless router to interference doesn't seem to be a problem and it seems fast enough, but the fact that I can't get it working properly with a "less technically challenged" method, really bothers me. What if I didn't have a wireless network? While wireless is great, if there was an easy solution to have all my desktops connected via ethernet, I'd prefer it (easy being not having a bunch a cables around and perhaps a pre-wired network in my home!)
Anyway, I hope everyone who has this machine gets the problem worked out. Unfortunately, knowing what I know now, I don't think I would buy this one again unless the software was rock solid. Physically the unit works well, but is a little loud I admit and went through my black cartridge pretty fast even though I used in saving settings such as fast draft, etc.
Just as a side note, the HP support guy in Canada was fairly annoying. When we still couldn't get it working properly via ethernet, he insisted it must be a problem with Apple or a conflict with a program I have installed, etc, etc. and told me that every one of his customers that has Leopard also has this unit working 100% properly. I politely told him he needs to add me as his first failure!
OK, enough rant. Try connecting wirelessly and see if that works. I would uninstall the current printers as suggested, but also clear out the printer cache. Do this by right clicking in the add a printer box area and choose reset printing system. If all else fails and you upgraded to Leopard from Tiger, then......gulp...... uninstall Leopard and revert back to Tiger. Under Tiger, both my macs worked perfectly connected via ethernet printer connection. Good luck.

  • Photosmart B8550 stopped printing from Win 7 Home Premium

I've had a Photosmart B8550 for several years. It used to print from my Win 7 Home Premuim setup, but won't now. I've attempted several fixes, driver un-installations and re-installations, including what is described in a thread that started on this forum on 7/15/13. The cumulative result is that I can print beautiful diagnostic pages from the HP Solution Center software, but nothing from any application running on Windows, nor a test page from the printer properties page in Control Panel. When I click the "Print Test Page" button on the printer properties page, I see the page flash briefly in the B8500 Series printer queue window and disappear -- but no page is printed. Is there a fix I haven't seen? Does this mean the printer has fried? Is there one last attempt I can make before (probably literally) heaving this one out the window?

  • How can I get my Photosmart B8550 to print envelopes from the photo tray?

I have a Photosmart B8550 printer.  I print a LOT of envelopes for greeting cards through Stamps.com.  I would like to be able to load invitation envelopes in the photo tray so I don't have to keep switching between paper and envelopes.  I tried it and the only thing it will print is photo paper (or 4x6 card stock)

    Hi,
Connect your printer to the network router.
    1. Wireless>Wireless Settings>Wireless Setup Wizard.
    2. Enter the router password to connect your printer.
    or
    1. Run the HP software and select the network/wireless connection method.
After printer is successfully connected to the network, enable Web Services/ePrint.
    1. Press the ePrint button on the printer or the Web Services icon on the printer front panel.
    2. Press Yes to accept terms of web services.
    3. Press Yes to accept future updates.
    4. A page will printout showing you how to register your printer's new email address which you will use to send your ePrints to.

  • Prints don't match display - photosmart b8550 - skin tones have reddish tin

when printing to photosmart b8550, the prints don't "color match" the display.
skin tones especially have reddish tint. should the printer or iphoto control
    the colors?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First I have to ask the obvious question: have you checked the levels in the various ink cartridges?
Color control is very difficult. Unless you print from an application like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements where you can set the preferences to have the application control color the printer will usually have the control.
What I would do is find a color image like this color image or this one and use it to run tests on regular paper, changing the various settings in the Print window till you get what you like. Then save those settings as a new preset.
Do not use a color image file that has the Adobe RGB color profile. You want one with the standard sRGB or sRGB IEC1966-2.1.
Also calibrate your monitor via the System/Displays preference pane. In the Print window menus there are a couple of panes for color management. Take a look at both, and others, to fine tune your setup.

  • Photosmart B8550 photo black prints blue/cyan

My Photosmart B8550 has recently begun to have problems printing dark/black on photos. It has printed wonderfully up to now, but I began to notice that Photo Black doesn't seem to be printing black when I print on glossy photo paper. Where black would be in photos becomes bluish...or cyan. I've even bought a brand new HP Photo Black cartridge, but still the same thing.
Oddly, a diagnostic printout on regular printer paper shows no photo black in the large color squares. At first I thought I was out of ink, but it's a new cartridge now. and still on occasion only shows some black smudges. Now I'm thinking perhaps something is clogged though I'm not sure what to try to clean, or how. However, when I print to glossy paper it's as if it's substituting cyan for what should be photo black. Strange...
A test print of a strip of blocks of grey scale...white changing to solid black... will begin white and slowly change to grey. But at about the 50% point it begins to show more of the cyan. By the time it gets to what should be solid black, it's solid cyan.
Anyone have any experience with this or know what I can do to fix it before I have to junk the thing already?
    Thanks,
    C

A quick follow-up: I downloaded the HP Diagnostic Utility and ran it on the B8550. The printout that resulted from running the utility looked perfect, though it printed on regular printer paper--not  glossy photo paper, which seems to be the issue in my case (fwiw, I've been testing on 4x6 glossy).
The diagnostic prints out a sheet with text and a square for each color..and black. That black looks nice and black, though if it's diagnosing this printer it doesn't tell you whether the black square is specifically 'Photo Black' or just a black that might have been the big text-black cartridge. Still, everything looked fine and the small still-life picture on the sheet also looked fine as far as I could tell.
So I'm still stumped why, when I print a test photo on 4x6 glossy (true HP paper that came with a cartridge), solid blacks will look bright cyan blue. There may be shades of grey along the way, black hair may show some blackish-greys...but a black shirt will print almost totally bright cyan blue.

  • Alien communique, print queue lagging, printer refuses to e-print, can't find with laptop

I purchased the HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer - Black (CN216A#B1H) to replace my top-feed printer whose ink was disappearing from retail stores. It is connected to my Mac Mini (OS: leopard 10.5) via USB, and to my home wifi network. I have a pc (OS: XP) laptop that also connects to the internet via wifi network. Here are my problems:
    1. The printer refuses to e-print. I have it set up with hpeprint, and it'll connect to hpeprint occasionally, usually after rebooting. I can print using the apps on the printer, but I can't email ANYTHING to it. I've even spent an hour on the phone with HP's help center, and he's sent stuff to the printer that never printed. It doesn't matter how it's sent--attachment or in the email--or what it is, it just sits in the queue until it fails. I paid more for this feature----why won't it work??
    2. I can't find the printer with the laptop. Now this may be my ineptitude with windows, but even my husband (whose laptop it is) can't figure it out. I can access the printer's url in a browser (http://192.168....you know), but I can't get the Add A Printer wizard to recognize the printer. It wants to go in through shared computers, looking for a printer on my Mini--which, by the way, for some strange reason my router won't let computers on my network access my hard-wired mini. Anyways, that's a headache for another day.
    3. Last night I tried to print a copy of a legal form, and the job sat in the computer's print queue for about an hour before the printer finally started warming up to print. Then it only printed the first half of the first page, spat it out, and gave me (after about half an hour more) a half dozen pages that look like some kind of alien communique. I've actually had it do this to me a couple times in the last day, just randomly printing these pages until I cancel print. Whatthe?
Setup seemed to be remarkably easy. I just plugged the thing in and followed the prompts. But now I'm starting to have buyer's remorse. What in the world is wrong with this printer?? If you can help me clear up one or two of these things, I'd greatly appreciate it, since it means less time I'll be on the phone with Customer Service.

By the way, here's what it printed:

  • My Photosmart 5512 can copy, scan, print documents, but it won't print web pages

Yesterday, having had problems scanning on my HP Photosmart 5512 All-in-One printer after an HP update, I went to the HP support site and downloaded the most recent driver for my printer.  Once it had finished downloading, it automatically went into the installation process.  Almost everything ended up working fine except I'm unable to print a web page.  I can print from Word and Excel, I can make copies, and I can scan.
I installed and then ran the print and scan doctor, but to no avail.  When I looked at the print queue there was nothing there, even though I had made four attempts to print a webpage.
Does anyone there have any ideas?  Your assistance would be most appreciated.
    Dena Sommer

Thank you for your help!  I tried reseting the printing system and removed the printer (as indicated in the instructions); however, when trying to add the printer back on it says, "Unable to communicate with the printer at this time."  The printer says that it's connected and the ePrint setting is on... Any suggestions of what to do from here?

  • Wireless MacBook Pro to wired C7280: Deleted offline printer queue, can't add printer again

I posted about a year and a half ago about connectivity problems with our C7280 all-in-one, and PrintDoc gave me some great suggestions to get me back on line again--thanks again!
I've had problems off-and-on again, but I've been able to get back again until now, and I can't get the usual tricks to work.
    Here's our set-up:
Printer:  Photosmart C7280 All-in-One, connected to network via Ethernet, static IP address 192.168.1.200 (confirmed via printer's display as well as the printer's web page)
Router:  Verizon/Actiontec MI424-WR (Verizon FiOS) with
    * Ethernet ports
    * 802.11b and 11g with WPA encryption
My Laptop:  MacBook Pro, Mac OS 10.6.8, wireless connection
Every now and then, the printer goes off-line.  (Our cordless phones and our WiFi occasionally hit the same channels, and our printer hiccups seem to happen after WiFi hiccups.  My theory is that a WiFi hiccup somehow screws up the print queues, possibly if it happens in the middle of a print job.  Haven't been able to prove it, though.)  I'm usually able to fix it by cycling power on the printer and/or resetting the print system (by right-clicking the list of printers in the Print & Fax window).
That's not working this time.  I reset the print system, but when I try to add a printer, I don't see my printer in the Add Printer dialog.
    I've tried various combinations of:
Cycling power on the printer (sometimes by cycling the power button off and on, sometimes by unplugging the power cord while powered on, and sometimes by unplugging the power cord while powered off)
Resetting the print system again (sometimes by itself, sometimes followed by log off/on, sometimes followed by reboot)
Powering down the Mac, then the printer, then the router, then powering them back up in reverse order.
But I still can't see my printer in the Add Printer dialog.
Somewhere along the way, I tried following the Mac OS 10.6-10.7 instructions from here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02205477&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3204785#N86...
...but Solution 1 assumes that the printer queue is still there; unfortunately, I'd already reset the print system by then.
Since I'm using OS 10.6 which already has the printer drivers built in, I'm assuming that I can't uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers as in older versions of Mac OS X.  (Er, right?)
The long-term solution (if my theory is right) is to get cordless phones that don't use the WiFi frequencies :-)  In the meantime, are there any tricks I'm missing?

Today I tried to "add printer" again...and lo and behold, there it was!
I wish I could tell you what fixed the problem, but I haven't got a clue.

  • Fan runs constantly (not my printer)

    Hi,
I've had this problem for a while and it's really getting to me. The fan on my black MacBook (purchased April 2007 and treated very well) runs constantly. Not upon startup, but as soon as I open Firefox it's going until I shut down. I've read about people who had backed up print queues and clearing this solved the problem, but my print queue is empty and doesn't even show up on Activity Monitor. It also says that I have between 88%-92% of my CPU free. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I should also add that the CPU temp is between 66° and 69° C.

What speed is the fan running at? Use smcFanControl to monitor it. The fan should be running close to 2000RPM at idle.

  • HP Photosmart 5520, Windows 7, "Now Printing" stays on printer screen

My HP Photosmart 5520, inkjet printer, windows 7 OS, has "now Printing" on the small screen all the time. Iyogi says it works find from their end, but I can't get it to print and turn off the "now printing". How do I reurn it to normal? Need detailed instructions.

    Hi BryanHeard,
I suggest that you do the following:
Do a Hard Reset on the printer as described in the following link.  Click Here
Clear the print queue.  To do this, click on the Start button, select Devices and Printers, right click your printer and select See What’s Printing (for the printer that does not say “fax”), right click any documents listed and select Cancel Document.
Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  and select Fix Printing.
Let me know if that helps.

  • Eprint submissions not showing up in hpconnected print queue

I've used eprint for a year or more; suddenly it's not working and the files I submit by email are not even showing up in the hpconnected print queue, under collections.
I have tried several types of files tonight - short emails, word documents, etc, in case a virus was somehow attached. I've submitted from a mobile device and a desktop.
    The print queue remains empty.
I have tried from 2 email addresses, both of which I've confirmed tonight are  authorized email addresses.
    Printer: HP Photosmart C410a

    Thanks!

    HI Kelownatom,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I understand that your ePrint jobs are no longer printing and are not showing up in your HP Connected account's print history section.
To better assist you, would you please provide some further information:
Is the ePrint email address in your HP connected account showing the same email address that is being used by your devices?
Is web services still active on your printer?
Is the blue wireless light turned on and not flashing on the front panel of the printer?
How are you sending the ePrint jobs (sending an email to the printer and attaching a file, forwarding an email to the printer with the file attached, sending via the HP ePrint app or the HP All-in-One Printer  Remote app)?
One easy step to try is to power off your printer using the on/off button, wait 15 seconds and then turn the printer back on.
    Thank you.

  • Server Print Queue Clogging

Hi, I am running Leopard Server in a small office with mixed Windows XP, Vista and Mac 10.6 clients. I am not an IT administrator, but I own the company and have been teaching myself on a DIY basis. These forums are a very helpful source of information for me.
We have a DELL MFP 1600n printer connected to the server via USB. Users can print to the printer. However, very frequently, the print queue will get clogged or jammed and the network printer will go into a paused state. It usually happens when a user tries to print a PDF or .jpg file. I resolve the problem by going manually into the print queue through System Preferences on the server and deleting the PDF or jpg, clicking resume, and then the remaining docs in the queue usually print as normal.
I don't see why I am getting so many frequent clogs/jams in the first place -- the Dell specs show it has 32MB of RAM so shouldn't it be able to handle a moderately large PDF?
Is there a special method for configuring printer services on Leopard Server that will help resolve this problem? Do I need a different printer?
Also, can I assign a user limited privileges that would enable him/her to go in and clear the jammed print queue without giving full access to everything else on the server? Currently, only I can do it and it is a hassle because it needs to be done at least once per day.

Magnify your issue by 145 and that is what I've been dealing with. I'm running a print server with 145 printers and 1800 users, and until recently, I've had to periodically clear the queues and un-pause the printers. Huge PITA.
I still don't know what is causing certain jobs to pause the printers, but here's how I am managing the symptoms to this problem.
Create a launchdaemon to run periodically (mine runs every 120 seconds)
Have it run a script with the following two lines:
    cancel -a `lpstat -t | grep disabled | awk '{print $2}'`
    cupsenable `lpstat -t | grep disabled | awk '{print $2}'`
The first line cancels all jobs in paused printers.
The second line re-enables any paused printers.
It won't stop certain jobs from hanging the printer, but it will "un-stick" them and eliminate the huge backlog of jobs that pile up as a result of it being paused all day.
FYI...we are running mostly Xerox Phaser 8550 and 8560 printers.
    Hope this helps.
