HP Photosmart D5160 Printer

I already added my concern below to an old thread I found from 2011 and since I'm not sure I'll get an answer using that old thread, I'm also posting it as a new discussion.
That old thread that addresses my exact problem, but I didn't find any solutions and I'm just now having the same problems. I own a Photosmart D5160 printer and I still have the original software CD that came the printer but I can't load it and I can't get the printer to print CD labels. I get the message "You can't open the application "HP Installer" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". So I don't have that going for me, which is not nice! But I couldn't really care less about that if I can just find a CD labeler software that will print from my Mac to the D5160. I'd rather by new CD labeler software than a new printer. I've tried a few free CD labeler software downloads, including iWinSoft Label Maker, but nothing has worked so far. I think there's an answer somewhere; I'm able to print documents on regular paper using this printer, but I only bought it (many years ago) for the purpose of printing CD labels and some occasional pictures. It's been used only sparingly and, other than being old, I would assume it's still in good working condition. It has been in storage since I bought my Mac 3 years ago, mainly because a I got a free printer with my purchase. I already paid $75+ to buy new printer cartridges and I just need to know if I'm going to be able to use it Any help is certainly appreciated! Thank you!!

This post can be cancelled. After reviewing the HP support forums and trying anything and everything I could find, I finally figured out how to use iWinSoft Label Maker to print to a CD. I actually found "CD/DVD 120MM" in page setup under the drop down to select the paper size. I selected it, printed, and it worked! Other than I'm exhausted after reading forums and tinkering with it for 8 straight hours, I'm happy!

  • Photosmart D5160 printing over network

I have a Photosmart D5160 connected to a Dell desktop PC running Windows 8.1 64bit, and 2 laptops, a Toshiba running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and a newer Sony running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
From the Toshiba I can connect to the printer over my wifi network and print happily.  And this used to be the case for the Sony laptop as well, but recently that has changed.  I can still connect to the printer connected to the Dell over wifi, but I cannot print.  The print jobs get stuck in the Sony's spooler and eventually disappear without printing.  If I connect the printer directly to the Sony it works fine.
I have tried deleting and reconnecing to the printer over the network.  I have tried running the Printer Install wizard, but that doesn't find the printer if it's not USB connected.
Comparing the properties of the printer on the Toshiba and the Sony, the driver list is different - partly because the Toshiba is 32 bit and the Sony 64 bit.  But the driver list on the Sony is the same for the printer whether it is USB or network connected.
    Help please!

Oh, and Print & Scan Doctor only finds the USB connected instance of the printer, not when it is connected over the network

  • How do I download my Photosmart D5160 virtual printer to my windows 7

I have been using my Photosmart D5160 printer in a XP Vertual mode on my Windows 7 computer for about eight years now to print lables on DVDs.  Somthing happened in the last couple of weeks and the virtual printer won't conect to my Windows 7 computer any more.  I would like to know how to download the Photosmart D5160 printer file to Vertual XP program to my Windows 7 computer again so I can print on DVDs.

System Preferences->Sharing, check DVD or CD Sharing to on.
Also, make note of the iMac's IP address in case Windows
doesn't automatically see it and you need to connect

  • Photosmart D5160 very slow to print

My printer takes forever to print, either from internet or Word doc. Sometimes the computer 'drops' the print request several times before printing as well. I've reinstalled the drivers but nothing has changed. Any suggestions about what I should do next much appreciated.

  • IMAC 10.9.4 Maverick - HP Photosmart D5160 fix required ?

    Hi
I wonder if anyone could help ? Apologies as I am no IT expert so may use the wrong terminology here !
I was using an HP Pavilion PC with Windows XP connected to a HP Photosmart Deskjet D5160 Printer but the PC  finally gave up the will to live this week.
I have taken the big step and purchased an iMAC (OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 I understand) as I hated the look of Windows 8.
Anyway, I connected the IMAC to the printer via a USB cable and in no time at all had downloaded the software to allow the printer to work. I can therefore print from screen ok but wanted to continue using the editing package (Photosmart Premier) which I used to use to produce things/ print on CD/DVDs etc as the printer is still fine despite being old. I still have the original discs but when I insert them they come up with a circle with a cross through. I phoned Apple who were very helpful but said I needed to contact HP as they need to release a fix/patch to allow this software to run on Mavericks ?
Can anyone point me in the right direction ?
Your help would be appreciated, thank you

Hi Slinketh, welcome to the forums!
I read your post about not being able to use all of the options you used to use with your Photosmart D5160 with Windows XP, now on your new iMac, running Mavericks (10.9.4).
The reasoning behind this is that there are no available HP drivers or software with this older model of printer and the newer OS X (10.9.4). Windows XP did have the full driver and software available, which is why you had the software features.
In having said that, your options are now limited because of the upgrade.
Here is a direct link for you to read about your options and instructions on how to use the PS D5160 on your new iMac.

  • D5160 - printed output streaked, even after cleaning and replacing cartridges

    SYSTEM SETUP:
    1. I purchased my HP Photosmart D5160 over 3 years ago (12/20/06).
    2. I use only HP ink cartridges (98 for black, 95 for tri-color).
    3. I print photos on professional glossy inkjet photo paper.
    PRIOR TO PROBLEM:
    1. Until a couple of months ago, I have been printing flawless photos with the setup mentioned above.
    2. Sometimes after installing new HP ink cartridges, a printed photo would print out with streaks.  To resolve this issue, I would "Clean the Print Cartridges" via the "HP Photosmart D5100 series Toolbox" and the photos would then print out flawlessly.
    PROBLEM:
    1. Beginning about two months ago, I am unable to have my photos print out flawlessly.  The photos print out consistently with some streaking.  I use the same paper as I always have.  I purchase the same HP ink cartridges as I always have.
    2. Using the "HP Photosmart D5100 series Toolbox," I clean the print cartridges and do an intermediate clean and then a prime.  Problem still remains.
    3. I then cleaned the print cartridges manually per the following HP doc (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01711664&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1155996) but problem still remains.
    4. I then replaced both the black and tri-color ink cartridges and problem still remains.
    QUESTION:
Is it time to buy a new printer or is there something else I can try?
    Thanks,
    Angela

  • Bluetooth Operation of a Photosmart D5160 with Adapters other than BT450?

I have a Photosmart D5160 which is stated to be "Bluetooth capable" and has the USB socket.   I have a Fujitsu laptop running Win 8 64-bit, which has Bluetooth wireless circuits installed.   The laptop has the software for the D5160 installed and works with the printer using a USB cable link.
I can find that the HP Adapter BT450 has the D5160 as a compatible printer, but are there any other adapters that will operate with this printer (I can't find anyone selling the BT450 except one seller in Australia.)   Is there any reason that the more recent adapters would not work?  For example the BT500?    If the interface is USB and the chipset is compatible with Bluetooth transmission protocols, should it not work?
The only relevant forum message I have found is
"hp photosmart d5160 with hp bt450 adaptor software cannot find bluetooth"
    Thanks for any advice.
    Rodney Fry,
    England

Thank you for coming back to my query.
I would like to connect the laptop to the HP printer.   I have only set it up and worked the system using a USB cable direct between the two.
I have NOT tried a Bluetooth interface.   The Bluetooth radio link is internal to the laptop and I would like to use an adapter plugged into the printer USB socket.
As I have not been able to locate a BT 450 adapter I am reluctant to spend money  and waste time trying to set it up on an incompatible one.     That is why I am asking the question '' should not any Bluetooth adapter work, not just a BT450", as the Bluetooth protocol is standard?
Or is the question that the printer USB interface is only comptible with a BT450 USB signal interface for some reason, which would have thought is not true?
If my assumption is correct that most Bluetooth adapters will be compatible wih the printer USB socket then I would be prepared to buy one.   I am not concerned by the fact the USB on the printer may only be USB 1.0 rather than the later higher speeds as most USB devices are backwards compatible.  The laptop uses ver 2.0 and 3.0 USB sockets, the one I have tried was the USB 3.0 and on my desktop machine a USB 2.0 socket.
I have eventually found (not easily!) on HP web page
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00722140&lang=en&cc=us&conte...
that the D5160 uses USB ver 2.0
So my question still stands is there any reason why any Bluetooth adapter should not work providing it is ver 2 or 3.0 compatible, or must it be a an HP device?

  • The power light on Photosmart D5160

The power light on my photosmart D5160 flashes on and off and I can't print.

Try removing/reseating the ink cartridges if you can.
Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet, not a surge protector or power strip.
    Try a different outlet.
I'm afraid that if none of these help, you may need to replace the printer.

  • Is there any way to print a photo from my iphone on plain paper on my photosmart plus printer?

Whenever I try to use Airprint to print a photo from my iPhone to my Photosmart Plus printer, it tries to print it on photo paper from the photo paper tray.
I want it to print on the plain paper in the regular tray.
I read online where this is possible with the iPrint app - but when I went to the App Store, there is no iPrint App.  I found a sticky post here saying that it has been removed from the App Store in anticipation of a new ePrint Home & Business version that won't be available everywhere until September.
So, in the meantime, is there anyway to change the location of where the photos from the iPhone print?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    HI
Most likely their is not, as printing pictures is standard set to photopaper as you most likely need good quality. Pictures on normal paper are not considered good quaity and thus not set as standard.

  • AIO app on iPAD not finding my HP Photosmart C4750 printer

The AIO app on my iPad can't find my HP Photosmart C4750 printer. However, the HP eprint app on my same iPad does find the printer. Printer is turned on, connected to the network. My HP laptop and my HP eprint app on my iPad both find the printer. Only my AIO app on my iPad is blind to the printer.

    Hello world-peace,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I was able to find out why the C4750 will not listed in the All-in-One Remote app, but is in the ePrint app. The printer just isn't supported in the app.
You will have to keep using the ePrint app for any printing done with the iPad and C4750.
Wish I better news, or a workaround for you.

  • [Solved] Hp-setup cannot find my HP Photosmart Plus printer

    Hi all,
I'm trying to set up my HP Photosmart Plus printer. I have an Arch desktop acting as the CUPS server, which I ssh into from my laptop. I've gone through the CUPS installation and linux - linux sharing instructions. When I try to set up the printer through the CUPS web interface, it easily detects and adds my printer. I can access it from my laptop and print stuff fine. However, it will only print out:
**** Unable to open the initial device, quitting.
I discovered that the printer should instead be set up using hp-setup. Running hp-check -t gives this.
Running hp-check --fix prompts to reinstall the printer through hp-setup, and so it removes the printer from CUPS and starts hp-setup -i.
When I select "net" for the connection type (my printer is wireless), it can't find my printer, even though the standard CUPS interface had no problem with this.

My hp photosmart D110 printer won't scan or print since I upgraded to Yosemite.  Any suggestions?

    Hey clutterfromduluth,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your printer/scanner after updating to OS X Yosemite. To troubleshoot this issue check out the following:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3147
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
    1. Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
    2. Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
    3. Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
    4. Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
    5. Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
    1. Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
    2. If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
    3. Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • HP Photosmart C6180 printer. Says the magenta ink cartridge is empty when it is new.

I own a HP Photosmart C6180 printer.  It sat for several months so I replaced all of the ink cartridges.  It will not print because it says the magenta ink cartridge is empty.  It is brand new and i can see the ink inside of it.  I am not sure what to do.  I don't want to take it to get serviced as I live several hours from any computer or printer repair shop.  Please help!

    Hi pbeck39
What are the ink levels like on a self test page - are they good? Are you using Win XP x64 by any chance?

  • I am trying to locate an HP Photosmart 7960 printer install disk. Any ideas how to get?

    Two questions....
I have an HP Photosmart 7960 printer and we have a new computer. We cannot find the install disk. I called HP and after about 2 hours of "help" was told that they can't support the printer anymore - it's too old. None of the on-line downloads from HP worked.
I have TONS of ink for this printer...
The ink cartridges are 56, 57, 58, and 59. If I cannot locate an install disk it may be worth my purchasing a printer that uses these cartridges. How would I find out what printers are available that use these cartridges?
