HP photosmart D7260 Error 0xc18a0001

Good afternoon all!  I have been getting the Error: 0xc18a0001 - Ink System Failure on my HP Photosmart D7260 printer over the last few days and I have absolutely no idea how to fix it.  I have looked through forums, searched on google, tried things and I have no idea what to do.  Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Thank you in advance for any help or advice!

Just call HP Tech support. If the printer is under warranty, then they'll just perform a special reset to fix it, or replace the printer for you.

  • Does 10.6.8 support HP Photosmart D7260

My iMac recently stopped working with my HP Photosmart D7260 printer.
(Cannot honestly remember if this was linked to a software upgrade, but is definitely not
linked to the initial upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.8 which was loaded a long time ago.)
The printer sometimes begins to print the document, but mostly nothing is printed.
    What happens now is :-
         - The Print Queue displays the message "Unable to send data to printer"
         - The Printer Queue shows the printer as Paused
-The Print Queue finally displays the message "Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able      to communicate with your printer. Turn the printer off, check your printer connections and check for      printer errors, and turn the printer back on."
The printer is wired to the iMac.
The iMac prints with the same USB port and USB cable connected to my other HP printer (Deskjet 2400)
(I have tried different ports and cables as well)
The D7260 printer works perfectly when connected to a Windows machine.
The same problem occurs when I connect the D7260 to my son's Mac laptop (also on OS X 10.6.8)
On the iMac, I have tried
         - removing and re-adding the printer,
         - resetting the printer,
         - removing and reinstalling all the HP software on the iMac,
         - uninstalling the HP software, restarting without re-installing HP software,
then downloading and installing from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
-Gone into Disk Utilities on the iMac, run the "Repair Disk Permissions" for the Mac HD & restarted.
None of the about have made any difference!
I have recently found a support 'conversation' which suggested that the D7260 is now too old, and Apple will not support!
Could you confirm whether or not this is the case?

Have you tried restoring the printer itself with a 'factory reset' and starting over?
If that's a no-go, I remember a thread here recently where a user was having all kinds of trouble getting an HP printer to work, albeit on Mountain Lion and it was a brand new model (not sure which).
In the end the solution was to delete the HP folder from Macintosh HD>Library>Printers, restart and connect the printer as if new. That triggered the printer into going to Apple's support pages and installing the software. After that all was well.
If you do try this, maybe just drag the HP printer folder to the desktop so that you can re-instate it to its original location if it doesn't reslove the problem. If it does, trash the HP folder on your desktop.

    Thanks.
I will give this a go.
Once I have uninstalled the software presumably, I don't use the cd that came with my printer (I have uninstalled and reinstalled using the original CD before) , but can download the software and new drivers direct from the HP site.
I did try and download updates from there and it said new software for solution centre but when I clicked
on the downloads they didn't appear to have anything to do with the solution centre.

  • Photosmart D7260 photo colors seem off

    HI!
I've been happily using my Photosmart D7260 for many years and have always been thrilled with the quality of the photo printing. All of a sudden the pictures are either too dark or muddy, or too green  - nothing like the image in my iPhoto. Even if I alter the images (make them brighter in iPhoto, for example), the colors are still not right and the pictures almost look fake! Very hard to describe. Any ideas how I can restore good color balance for printing my own photos?
    Thanks so much,
    Kris

    Hello there @DogDocNJ ,
I read about the issue you are having with the print quality of your print outs from your Photosmart D7260, and would like to offer you my suggestion.
Click this guide and try the steps. The cleaning should help!

  • How may I calibrate color for my HP Photosmart D7260?

I have a HP Photosmart D7260 and Windows 7 OS.  Recently my pictures print much darker than they appear on the monitor or camera LCD.  How may this be corrected?

    Hi,
In order to calibrate the color, the full feature software is required.
You can calibrate the colors by using the HP Solution Center software, as describe within the document below.
As well, make sure to follow any of the other steps:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01066780&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3315742&tmp...
If you are using the Windows included basic driver, you will have to install the Full software:
Enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers
Right click the printer icon, then click Remove Device.
Once the device no longer appear, unplug the USB cable from the back of your printer.
Download and install the Full Feature Software below:
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL30785/mp-76269-1/PS_SF_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe
Follow the calibration and cleaning steps listed above.

  • HP Photosmart 3310, Printer Error 0xc18a0001

Can anyone help. We have a HP Photosmart 3310 Printer which is giving the above error message, so it won't print or do anything. We've followed the instructions online; taking out the USB cable, removing the cartridges, turning the unit off, then turning back on again etc etc, but we dont get the prompt to replace the cartridges (the error message remains the same). Does anyone have any other suggestions, or has this machine reached its end?

I just ran into this problem with my Photosmart 3310 two days ago.  After a lot of research, I ran into a post where a person said the most probable cause for this problem was the ink pump gear had fallen off. I decided to open my Photosmart 3310 and yes that gear was sitting at the bottom of the printer at an angle. I took the printer apart, got to the ink pump gear and put there it was off to the side.  After about 15 screws and 8 pices my printer was back together.  I turned it on and still got the same error. I had to reset the system by holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons down at the same time and turned the 3310 off. I kept holding the buttons down until the printer turned off and then I turned it back on. When it came on it did its little "device maintenance occurring" thing for about 2 minutes and then I was able to print again just like old times. On the printer, you will have to remove the sides,  and the scanner. You will have to disconnect the motherboard so that you can remove the scanner from the printer.  Carefull not to damage any of the connections. You will also have to remove the cover for the printhead to do the repair. The gear for that ink pump is on the left side where the power supply is. Here's an image to give you an idea where that white gear is:

  • HP PhotoSmart Essential error on startup

    Hello,
Up until the other day I was not having any issues when I would start my computer.  A few days ago when I started the computer I got a pop-up box titled "HPPhotosmartEssential" and it stated "Please wait while Windows configures HPPhotosmart Essential" and just a couple of seconds later another popup box titled "HPPhotosmartEssential" the the following information - "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personlel or package vendor"
I no longer have the installation CD for the OfficeJet J4680 printer but I do have the download software so I opened it up and it was installed to the temp folder.  from that I went to start and typed %Temp% and opened up that file and followed the following steps....
    Open "Setup" folder
Open "Scan" folder. Right click on "scan" file (windows installer package) and click on "Repair". If any error appears,  again right click on the file and select "Install"
Go back to Setup folder and open "bpd_scan" folder. Right click on "bpd_scan" file (windows installer package) and click on "Repair". If any error appears,  again right click on the file and select "Install"
when I clicked Repair I got a new Window bpd_scan error message which it says: Module C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqebpd2.dll failed to register. HRESULT-2147220473. Contact your support personnel. I Clicked OK & continued to the following step
Go back to Setup folder and open "destinations" folder. Repeat the above process and that repair went fine.
I restarted the pc but the problem still exists.  (I have removed the shortcut for this file which was located in start>programs>startup ----- I removed the shortcut for this file (titled HP Digital Imaging Monitor).
I have also opened a command prompt (ran as administrator) and typed in regsvr32 hpqebpd2.dll and that stated DLLRegister Server in hpqebpd2dll succeeded.
I restarted the pc but when I click on the file to open it (even if I do it as a right click and run as administrator) I am still getting the 2 popup boxes.  And when I click okay or cancel the boxes still pop up 3 or 4 more times before it stops.
I did notice that once I have clicked to run / open that file it does show up in the lower right hand corner but I still get those popup boxes multiple times.
Nothing had changed overnight on the pc so I am not sure why the problem suddenly occurred.  I have run multiple online scans for viruses and malware as well as a boot scan but nothing has been found.   I did run ccleaner and noticed that it found a missing DLL for  C:\PROGRAM FILES\HP\DIGITAL IMAGING\bin\HpqSRmon.exe
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with all of the current updates and it is an officejet j4680 all in one printer.
Other than trying a complete uninstall of the printer software from control panel or revo uninstaller and then installing the software again I am not sure what I can do to possibly resolve the issue.   The printer software is version 14.
Any other possible suggestions or solutions would be very much appreciated.
    TIA

I have an older HP Photosmart c6380 which has a very similar start-up issue. I have never attempted to tackle this issue as it is the last thing I want to do when I get home from work. I see a lot of people have posted on here so I have questions for you all before we attempt to get too deep into the registry.
The most important question I have for you all is how is your printer connected to your computer?  Did you install it USB, wireless, or ethernet?
Do you all have Solution Center on your desktop?
My printer at home is connected and installed via wireless. I emailed myself this document to help resolve this issue but it mentions using a registry cleaner and I tend to stray away from those because I will have to do a complete L4 uninstall for my non-HP computer in order for a registry cleaner to even work. In fact, at the end of this document I posted it states, "If you do decide to install a registry cleaner, be sure to research the product thoroughly, and then download and install programs only from software publishers that you trust."
For those who consider themselves technologically advanced, these are the steps required to completely clean the printer software and registry keys from the computer. If you do not have the software disc, then I recommend checking this HP website for the latest Full Feature Software and Drivers before uninstalling the device from the computer.
    From a download:
    1. Run disk cleanup on your computer
    2. Download and run the software and drivers below.
    3. Once the download is done extracting, cancel the download.
    4. Click the start menu.
    5. Click Run.
    6. Type %temp% in the run field
    7. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356). There may be many 7z folders, so look for a folder with Util in it.
    8. Open folder Util
    9. Open folder CCC
    10. Run the uninstall_ L4.bat for non-HP computers.  For HP computers run the Uninstall_L3.bat
    11. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    12. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
    13. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
    14. Use the CCleaner Tool link below to clean the system and registry.  Note: This utility is not HP sponsored or approved.  HP and I are not responsible for damages or loss of data caused by the utility.  This step is optional.   You can skip it if you want.
    15. Download the full feature software and drivers
    16. Run the download to reinstall the printer
Read the document link I posted at the top thoroughly before attempting any troubleshooting steps, because every single one of you have a different operating system and a different printer.  This registry cleaner comes highly recommended but please read this main page before running the software so you have an idea of what it does and how to use it. To download it, click the green Download Now button on the left. If you are too afraid to use it just respond and I can type a brief description. There is a video on this page about how to use this registry cleaner as well.
Let me know if this document helps all of you because I know how hard it is to find something that is easy to understand.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

  • HP Photosmart D7260 need the introductory ink cartridges?

I was given this printer. It was new and never hooked up before but the introductory ink wasn't given to me with the printer. I had no problem downloading the drivers and setting it up until it got to checking the ink. It gave me an error messages ( I bought all new ink cartridges) about the ink not being the intro ink that came with the printer. Is there some way around this, if not, does someone have a link to where I can buy another set of the introductory ink so I can finish getting this printer set up?
    Angel L

    Hello,
Here is a list of the cartridges for this printer.
The HP Photosmart supports the following print cartridges:
    HP 02 Black
    HP 02 Magenta
    HP 02 Cyan
    HP 02 Yellow
    HP 02 Light Magenta

  • Photosmart C4680 -- Error message when attempting to scan

HELP PLEASE!!  -- Have a Photosmart C4680 all-in-one and after 3+ years unable to scan.  This began several months ago but recently need to scan items and if I can't fix the printer will need to purchase a new one.  The printer works fine, but am unable to print ALIGNMENT copy when I change ink and when I attempt to scan I get the error message:
"The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device".
As I said I have no problem printing, but am unable to scan either documents or photos.  I have done EVERYTHING the FAQ troubleshooting program recommended in the HP Solution Center.  I have REBOOTED, UNINSTALLED and REINSTALLED, MOVED USB CABLE TO A DIFFERENT PORT but I still get the same error message.  If I can't fix the problem I am tossing this printer as soon as I run out of either Black or Color ink, but I'm definitely NOT getting another HP printer if this is what happens after a couple of years.
    Can anyone solve my problem?
    THANKS in advance!
    Hal

Thanks for providing that information halnyguy.
I would suggest doing a Level 3 uninstall and reinstall the Full Feature Software and start over.
Disconnect the USB cable. If using the USB connection.
Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type %temp%.
Delete all files and folders from the temp folder. Choose skip if any pop ups appear saying any of the files could not be deleted.
Download the software and choose to save as, save to desktop. HP Photosmart C4600 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver.
After the software downloads and extracts, open the temp folder again. Close the installation window.
Open the folder starting with 7z. (Example: 7zS2356)
    Open folder Util.
    Open folder CCC.
If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have anon-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
When the uninstall has completed restart the computer.
Follow these steps to reset the registry settings and options for Windows Installer.
Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box.
In the Open box, type msiexec /unregister, and then click OK.
Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box.
In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver, then click OK.
Run the Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tool. Delete files using Disk Cleanup.
Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player. Adobe Flash Player Support Center.
I would disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to see if that is causing the issue. How to use MSCONFIG . Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
    Restart the computer.
    Test the printer.
Then you will need to go back in and enable the start up programs and turn the Antivirus Software back on again.
Let me know how you make out.
    Thank You.

  • Photosmart 7520 error. there is a problem with the printer. turn printer off then on.

I have a photosmart 7520 experiencing the following issues.
Problem #1:   Randomly all the lights start to blink off and on and the display reads the following :
Error . There is a problem with the printer. Turn printer off then on.
I cannot find any one action that triggers this to happen.
Problem #2:  When the printer is turned on and idle,  also at RANDOM times, the printer will "Ding" followed by the  wireless light blinking. Then what sounds like the cartridges being cleaned, then a sound like the feeder spinning or the print head running full track from side to side, then ending with a "Ding" and then returning to normal.
When this occurs, the wireless connection is disconnected then reconnected. Also this Disables the "Scan to computer" function to all the computers on the network and requires manually re-enabling all .
From what I can tell the printer is restarting itself.
It is plugged directly into the wall outlet, no surge protector.
Tech support has already run me through the clean the print head steps, escalated me up the chain, and ultimately replaced the printer with a brand new one.
THE NEW PRINTER IS DOING ALL THE SAME THINGS AS THE PREVIOUS ONE.
This printer is connected wirelessly to a Netgear N900 router. My computers all running Windows 7, all are on the same network and workgroup and all are running Mcafee Total Protection.
If anyone is or has experienced the same or similar problems, I could sure use some help.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    How did you fix this?
I replaced an HP printer recently for a new Photosmart 7520 after a complete ink container emptied into the printer.
The old printer sometimes had difficulties switching it on and the new printer has the same problem.
Also the wireless connection regulary drops and can only be reenabled by switching of the printer and switching it back on, only this sometimes takes more than ten minutes before a simple push on the power button is translated in a power on of the printer.
Since the previous printer also suffered from these "power" issues, I think the problems are power related, but I have to check this first before I can say anything more about this.
