HP Presario CQ56

I have a HP Presario CQ56.  I am running Windows 7.  I performed a disk cleanup and shut it down.  When I turned my laptop back on the screen shows in clue letters "Boot Device Not Found Please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk - (3FO)
then in white letters it says F2 System Diagnostics
I don't know what this means and I don't know how to fix it.  I need suggestions.

that means Windows is corrupted and now will not boot.
disk cleanup - did you use the system provided "cleanmgr" or just went about your self and removed bunch of seemingly unnecessary files?
If there are no important data to be saved on the hard drive, the best way to recover the system at this point, is probably the the F11 System Recovery option, Hit f11 during boot up (before you get that failure message).

  • Can't see post on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor

I can't see any post info on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor. The built-in monitor has been broken for some time and I've been using an external monitor via the vga port. Recently I had an issue with Windows and must now perform a system recovery. Whereas the built-in monitor does light up there is no portion that is viewable. It's damaged in a way that has everything totally distorted. I disconnected it hoping that the system would reroute directly to the external but unfortunately it didn't. I'm confident that my tinkering inside the laptop wasn't a factor since prior to disassembly the external monitor was never active until the system booted into Windows, plus I can reconnect the built-in monitor and it still lights up just as it did before.
Is there any known keystrokes to activate the external during post?...other than the F4 key

    Hello Kerdomrikman,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
In regards to your question on known keystrokes to activate external during post, there aren't any. The graphics won't switch to external until after the post.
What you can try, if your able to veiw the BIOS on the external you can run diagnostics from there.
I hope this answers your question. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Problems

    Hello,
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Laptop. It is still under warranty. Within the last week the power of the laptop has been messed up. When I have the laptop unplugged, which I don't very often, the laptop shuts down after an hour without any warning. So I plug back in the laptop and it still shows anywhere for 40-70 percent battery left. Why is it doing this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
First of all, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.
Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the notebook down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shut down the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue at all.
If the above has not helped, download and run the stand-alone battery test utility available on the page below and see if this reports any problems with your battery.
    http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm
If this reports a problem with the battery ( or even if it doesn't, but the problem is still occuring ), contact HP and arrange to have the battery replaced/notebook repaired under warranty.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • Presario CQ56 win7x64 printer ports gone

I have a presario cq56 win7 x64 that will not print. The printer ports have disapeared from all loaded printers. I get no error mssages. I have run troubleshooters from microsoft and hp and cannot identify the problem. I have tried to reload the printers, no luck. Please help.

In the Devices and printers window, across the top, there is an option "Print Server Properties". This does list a bunch of printer ports. My printer is listed on a usb port. (I have attempted to connect wirelessly and usb). When I attempt to configure the usb port listed, "an error occured during port configuration. This operation is not supported." The TCP/IP port settings open, and with the exception of the port name/ip address, are all configured the same: Protocol - raw, Raw settings - port number 9100, LPR settings - none, SNMP status Enabled - community name - public, SNMP Device Index - 1
There are six TCP/IP ports listed at this point, I have only one brand new Canon printer (MG5300) to get working.
I found another port on the list; CNBJNP_888717B1A30A Canon BJ Network Port. I cannot view properties, or configure this port.
I have entertained a system restore, but cannot go back far enough to get past the problem. (Wife says end of July)
Thanks so much for your help, I'm lost on this one

  • Recovery Manager could not restore Presario CQ56 & system won't boot, gives error BOOTMGR is missing

    4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
There were no changes made to the computer, prior to the restore the computer would boot up, however, it would freeze after the system was up and running. Restarting the computer did not help and when I tried to restore it to an earlier point it said that it was unable to complete the restore. I then tried to the factory reset, however, it gave me an error message: "Recovery Manager could not restore your computer using the factory image. Please contact HP support. Error code: 0xe0ef0003. When I tried to restart the computer afterwards, it gave an error message: "BOOTMGR is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". How do I fix this?

    Hello crossurmind.
What sorts of issues led up to the computer originally not booting? Were you getting a lot of blue screen errors?
The two items you posted from the error log seem to indicate that it is having trouble reading the hard drive and possibly the memory. After trying the restore it seems that it failed causing the boot section of the install to "not be found."
I think you should begin by using the built in tests for the hard drive and memory located in the BIOS. Follow this document to perform the hard drive test. All you'll have to do is repeat the process and select "memory" in order to perform the memory test. Make sure to post the result of both of these tests.
I will await the results; have a great day!

  • Compaq Presario CQ56 beep while working and working temperature

    Hi,
I Have a Compaq Presario CQ56 with Windows 7 Ultimate (32Bit), ADM V140 CPU, 2GB of DDR3 RAM and an AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4250, and a SAMSUNG 250GB HDD.
While i am playing some random games like Need for Speed Carbon, Need for Speed World on Low-Medium graphics, i hear a long beep and then a click from the laptop, somewhere from the DVD-RW Drive. It only occured twice do far. The laptop works normal tho after the beeps.
Also, the temerature is worrying me, it goes up to 75C while playing, but goes down to 60-65 while internet and around 54 while idle (lid closed).
Sorry for my grammar i am Serbian.
    Thanks in advance!

Those temperatures are a bit high, but still well within normal range. We see a lot of people reporting temperatures in the 90C ranges. The beep is a mystery to me.

  • (SOLVED!) Presario CQ56 optical drive button always stuck

    Hey all,
I have a Presario CQ56 laptop with what I suspect to be a broken optical drive button. The optical drive itself works fine: if I take off the faceplate, and push the eject button, the drive will eject. If I use the eject button in Windows, or the paperclip hole, it will eject.
However, whenever I try to push the button on the faceplate, the button simply sticks and will not eject the drive.
I was wondering if anyone here could either provide me a picture of the back side of the faceplate, so I could compare that to mine and see if the eject arm or another piece has broken off. If someone has any instructions on how to repair or replace the faceplate, that would be great too.
Again, I don't need to replace the entire drive, I just need to either fix the button on the faceplate, or replace it.
If anyone has any advice on this matter, I'd appreciate it.

    Hey Circanum,
Unfortunately, I don't have one of these exact units available to take a picture of, however perhaps we can work with what you've got.
When you remove the faceplate, you should see a small actuator tab on the back of the eject button of the faceplate (will vary based on configuration). Is the actuator there? Does the eject button "feel" like it is pressing against the eject button?
There's no easy way to repair the faceplate other than replacing it. If you'd like to replace it, you could order one through HP Support - 800-474-6836. You could probably use some tape or super glue to replace the actuator - this is quick n' dirty and will probably affect your warranty status.
Please attach a picture of the back of the faceplate, that way I can take a look and let you know what's going on.
(Great Foundation quote by the way - by far my favorite book series. Now I have to read through them again!)
Thank you for your prompt and helpful reply mula! It is much appreciated.
The actuator, or the little arm, is there, and it does bend when I push the faceplate button. What seems to happen is that it isn't hitting the open button, and it just carries through, causing the faceplate button to stick instead of bouncing back out.
You can better understand what I mean by checking some pictures I took of the faceplate on and off the drive.
I'm glad to hear I can replace the faceplate, rather than the whole drive. It should save me some money too. Of course, I'll try and see if my current button is fixable before replacing it.
Yep, I love Asimov's stories: he's an excellent author. Delighted to have met a fellow fan!
