HP Prime Calculator resetting itself.

As the title suggests, I have an HP Prime that keeps resetting itself when I press the 'num' button. It doesn't reset when I push 'shift' 'num' though. I don't know if I messed something up somehow becuase this button use to work fine. Any help would be great.
Thank you in advance,
Nick

Sorry about the trouble you're having updating your Prime's firmware.  The process seems to be finicky about which USB port it likes and which USB ports it doesn't like.  It prefers ports on the computer over those on a hub, and prefers the computer ports which are the closest to the motherboard.  Usually.  But it's finicky and impossible to predict.  If paperclip-resetting your Prime and trying to update through a different USB port doesn't work, then perform the following emergency procedure:
1. Make sure your Prime is in "recovery mode".  If the Connectivity Kit left it in recovery mode, you're ready for step 2.  Otherwise, force your Prime into recovery mode by pressing and holding down the Symb key, then poking a paperclip into the reset hole in the back, then releasing the Symb key.
2. Make sure that the Connectivity Kit is not running, and make sure that the Prime is connected to the computer with the USB cable.  Best results are obtained by using the USB port closest to your motherboard.
3. On your PC, navigate to the installation folder of the Connectivity Kit.  It's different on different computers, but on mine it's here:
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Connectivity Kit
In that folder, you'll see a program called "Updater.exe".  Run that program directly by double-clicking it.  This should perform the update directly, bypassing the finicky Connectivity Kit.
Hope this works!  It has always worked when the Connectivity Kit was scorning me.

  • System Resets itself after about 1 to 2 hours use

    Hi guys,
I had setup my system for about 2 months now.  Bios is version 1.90.
I encountered my system resetting itself without warning, sometimes after 1 to 2 hours use, sometimes, even 30 minutes use.  I am using Intel CPU stock fan and getting startup CPU temperature of 44 deg C and about 50 deg C after a few hours use.  Sometimes, the system is stopped and shows the blue screen warning.  A warm reset brings my system back up again.
    Suspect:
    1.  Since I have many peripherals, I am worried about my PSU whether it is able to take it.  The power calculator at http://www.adecy.com/psu/ recommended 570W.  No way to get that man!  I am willing to consider a new PSU of maximum 480W (within my budget) but if it means that I can continue to use the current PSU but with risk of shortened lifespan, I'm ok to stick to this.
    2.  Maybe the Y-Connectors cables might becomes loose sometimes.  Thinking of changing the cables to better tight fitting ones (difficult to find though).
    3.  Overclocking - Don't think so because if I didnot remember wrongly, even at 2.8GHz without o/c, the sudden resets did happen before.
Hope someone can give me a suggestion.  Thanks in advance.

    +12 V = 17A
    +3.3V = 32A
    -5 V = 1A
    -12 V = 1A
    -3.3V = 2.2A

When you use the calculator, you have to decide how much you want to load your system up. Eg you have 8 USB ports, how many to you actually use?
This is what I calculated (guessed at the fans):
    Recommended PSU: 401W (151W on +3.3v & +5v rails) for:
-1 x Motherboard without onboard devices
-4 x Fans (including PSU fans)
    -8 x Memory (128MB DDR)
    -1 x Graphic Card
    -1 x with powerful 3D Accelerator
    -3 x HDD
    -1 x Keyboard
    -1 x Mouse
    -CPU: Intel P4 (2.8D GHz 0.13 µm µPGA478 @ 1.525 V with HTT)
The 350W PSU does look on the light side. I don't have a good feel for the Canopus Storm 2 PCI card. Looked it up and it looks like it probably draws as much power as a top end video card. Also, the CPU power requirement goes up with overclocking.

  • Prime calculator stuck in radians?

Hi there, this is my first post on this forum site and hopefully I do all this correct. But my question is how do you switch between radians and degrees (as far as modes) on the HP Prime calculator? I thought it was touch the top right corner and then touch either of the symbols? I could have swore that was the way i did it before; but today when I went to switch to degrees the screen was unresponsive when that drop down menu would appear. So then from the CAS screen I went into settings and tried to change the mode there, and I could select between the two but when I would go back to the CAS screen and then back to the settings screen to see if it did indeed stay, the drop down bar would say radians again... I've tried the reset button on the back and no luck. Is there some setting that I might have turned on so it won't change between modes? I also haven't messed with the firmware at all; all I've done is take it out of the box and charge it up and use it. I've had it now since about last November and as far as I can remember this function used to work.
Ok update if anyone reads this ... I have found that within the app "function" I can not switch between radians/degrees. I am just currious as to why im not able to do so if anyone would like to comment?
    Thanks, Nick

Here's one possible reason for what you were experiencing.  Each app can have its own private radian/degree setting in the "Symbolic Setup" screen.  (Shift Symb)  When an app has the angle mode set here, it usually cannot be changed elsewhere.  To restore your ability to set the angle mode in the usual three places (Home Settings, CAS Settings, and the battery icon popup box), press Shift Symb and change the angle setting there to "System".

  • Mid-2010 MacBook Pro Resets Itself

I bought my 13" Macbook Pro in September of last year. Lately it has intermittently started resetting itself, meaning in the middle of whatever I'm working on, my screen will suddenly turn a light blue color, then the desktop will reload afresh, with all the applications I'd been working on previously no longer open. It seems to happen when I'm switching between programs, primarily when I'm switching back to Safari or Word, but that may just be coincidence. It's frustrating, but I haven't lost any data yet. I've run all software updates, if that makes any difference.
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

I suppose I should have mentioned that I've been making frequent Time Machine backups and save my most important files in cloud storage. I'm certainly not averse to making a Genius Bar appointment, but I do have reservations about how much they'll be able to help given that I can't reproduce the problem at will.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A Periodically resets itself

About every 20 minutes the screen on my HP Officejet Pro 8500A goes blank, then redisplays, followed by the carriage shifting sounding like the printer is resetting itself to print a job.  I'm set up on a WiFi connection and have no screen blanking set.  This resetting is VERY disconcerting as it happens with no warning.  How can I stop this periodic reset?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi HevnLgh,
I completed all of the steps you recommended and they did not solve the problem.  However two days later the problem has disappeared.
The problem was not that the printer was powering off.  Also it was not connected to a computer in any manner other than WiFi, though it did have a phone line connection to send/receive FAXes.  The printer display was blanking for a few seconds, followed by redisplay and carriage movement that sounded just like when it was getting ready to print.  However no printout resulted, nor was there any print job pending.
Now the display goes dim periodically for a few seconds, but comes back on.  However there is no longer any carriage movement or other noises.  Since the sudden noise was always the annoying factor I'm satisfied that the issue is resolved.

  • Mac OS 10.4 reset itself

    Hi,
I was using my PowerBook G4 today like I always do. I was downloading some new icons from the apple website and I was writing a paper for school. I was pasting some of these new icons onto folders, when my customize buttons on the Finder dissappeared. I thought the computer was just having a small problem, so I restarted it.
When I did that, the entire OS was changed. The dock was reset back to factory settings (except instead of the icons appearing, they were question marks). My iTunes library was erased, as was my iPhoto library (and all of my other applications were reset). My edits to the Finder (such as backgrounds) were set back to white, and edits inside of applications were undone (for instance, my bookmarks in Safari were reset back to factory settings).
What happened? And is there a way to recover the settings I had put into the computer? It didn't delete my MS Word and Excel files, but it seems to have deleted or reset everything else. I have had no problems with my computer before. Nothing like this has ever happened to it before. Thanks for your help in advance.
    PowerBook G4 12.1 1.5 GHz 512 MB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Update:
After digging around more, I've found most of my files. My iTunes music is all there for instance. However, I have to reimport the files into iTunes to get them to play.
So, my question is now... what happened? Why did my computer reset itself, but not delete my files? And how do I keep this from happening again in the future?

  • My iphone 3gs is not working properly, when switched on it says 'Update Completed' as though it has just been updated. On the next screen it says to 'Connect to iTunes'. It doesn't, however, connect to iTunes and more often than not just resets itself.

My iPhone 3gs is not working properly and hasn't been since about September of last year. When switched on (Quite often it won't even turn on) it says 'Update Completed' as though it has just been updated. On the next screen it says to 'Connect to iTunes'. It doesn't, however, connect to iTunes and just resets itself over and over until power is gone. Occasionally after switching on and off a few times it functions normally for a few hours and some times even a couple of days but eventually always turns itself off and goes back to the 'Update Completed' screen. Does anyone know what might be causing this and/or a way of fixing it?

  • ITunes keeps resetting itself

I got my Sony VAIO laptop just before christmas and downloaded itunes from this website onto it. But every few days it resets itself and all my music, playlists and the genius sidebar disappear. To fix it I just drag and drop all the stuff in the itunes music folder back into itunes, but it's very frustrating and I shouldn't have to do it. I never experienced this with my home computer which also operates on vista. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to fix it?

It startsto reset itself while i amorking on applications like word excel photoshop.
    Please explain what actually happens.
Do you have upwards of 15% free space on your HD? If not, this could be causing issues.
Have you run Repair Disk? Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen go to Installer Menu>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself).

  • HP Prime calculating bug

Hi, I'll get right to the issue i'm having with my HP Prime calculator.  Recently during an exam where i was calculating the moments of inertia of certain bodies i encountered what i can only describe as a bug in the software because I can't figure any other reason why it would kick out the answer it did for such a seemingly simple function.  After I had done all the laboreous work of simplifying the differential equations I just needed to add some simple fractions.  As i have been operating this calculator for several weeks now, the only way i can get it to show a fraction in exact form is to type (number) / (number) and it shows it in exact form.  In my case and for this particular calcuation I input (3/20) - (1/7) "enter".  the answer Prime gave me was noticably unsimplified given that i needed it in simplified form.  although the numerical, non-exact value was almost correct (.00714285714309 instead of the correct value of .00714285714286), generally Prime kicks out a simplified value.  What it gave me was 214500215/30030030099 instead of 1/140.  i'm just curious if i need to do something different to get a simplified/correct answer on the first go rather than having to do a work-around.
    Thanks in advance

If you want an exact and simplified answer on the first go, do your calculation in CAS view rather than Home view. Try this experiment.
    1. Go to CAS view, and enter your calculation (3/20)-(1/7). The Prime will respond with 1/140, the exact answer. Now press the a b/c key. The Prime will respond with 0.00714285714286, the approximate decimal equivalent. Keep pressing the a b/c key, and the Prime will toggle between the two answers.
    2. Now try the same steps in Home view. The Prime will toggle between 0.007142857143 and 214500215/30030030099.
Remember, the true decimal value for 1/140 is an infinite repeating number. Since every calculator can store only a finite number of digits, it must truncate the value after a set number of digits, and this introduces a small error. The big fraction you got in Home view is not wrong, and it's certainly not a bug. It's just that Home view is not designed to handle exact values. The CAS, on the other hand, is designed to handle exact values, so when you tell it to show an approximate answer, its decimal form will be closer to the exact value, namely, 1/140.
The moral of the story is, use CAS view when you want exact values and Home view when you want approximate values. I tell my students to use fractions whenever possible (since those are usually exact) rather than converting them to decimal values. It's far easier to use 1/3 than 0.33333....[infinite number of 3s go here].

  • Phone resets itself to January 1980

For the past five days or so, my iPhone 5 (os 7.0.4) will arbitrarily reset itself to January 5, 1980; this happens only at home.  The phone could be charging, or not charging.  It's completely arbitrary.
Upon a hard shutdown (home key/power off) and restart, the date and time will reset itself back to current.
I've got a visit to the Mac store later today, but I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue, what it was and how it was solved.
    Thanks much.
    C

I am having a similar issue with my iPhone and my son is having the exact same issues on his Droid HTC and it took me two people and nearly two hours to convince those Verizon folks it isn't the device.  I am almost certain it has to do with the local tower near our home.  My son went to work which was about 30 miles away and he didn't have one issue.  As soon as he got home, he was back at 11/15/2013 even though it was 12/14/2013.  The problem is intermittent, all of a sudden everything works and a few hours later, I can't text, receive texts, calls go directly to voicemail so if it is one of those annoying people who thinks I am just going to see their missed call and immediately call them back-well they are surprised and ticked off when I don't.  Can't call someone back when I don't know they called which is a darn shame since I use my cell 100% for work and I am self employed.  Right now it is 1:23am on 12/15/13 in California but my phone says it is 11/16/13 at 10:18am.  I tried call my cell from my landline and it goes right to voicemail.  I type a text and hit send and nothing is in the history but at some point it does go through but never shows up on the history, annoying especially when you are trying to communicate with your teen and I can't remember exactly what I wrote.  I use my phone as my watch, my alarm clock, etc. so that's an issue....  And the worst part is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I can't play Candy Crush Saga because it says I have to wait over 42,000 minutes, thats about a month for those who are interest.  And yes, my son is having every single issue once he got home from work, including the exact date and time error I have but yet Verizon still thinks it is my device.  Really?  I was told there was a ticket established to escalate/solve this issue but I have my doubts based on my interactions and the fact it took me two hours and two people to convince it wasn't my device before they would take this issue to the next level.  The Verizon folks are getting paid for that time but I am not and I am paying Verizon.  What's wrong with this picture?
