HP Printer Assistant won't open

Hi,
I have a HP Offficejet Pro 8600 Plus, and am using a windows 8.1 pc.  I am trying to open the printer assistant so that I can scan and OCR.  I used to be able to do this fine, but now I can't even start the Printer Assistant.  I have tried reinstalling the full software, but that has no difference.
When I go to open the printer, nothing seems to happen, but when you look at the task manager, it shows hundreds of HP Printer Assistant processes.  Eventually I get booted out of the session back to the windows user login.
I can print, and scan using HP AiO Remote app on the same machine.  Scan doesn't allow for OCR.
No idea what started this behaviour, but would appreciate help to get it back to working.
Jason

Hi there Jason, aka @Jaskeys ,
I would like to make a suggestion that might help you with the Solution Center problem you're having.
I'd suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software and reinstalling the printer: HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver
Hopefully that will give you back the full software and driver package with all of the features to scan again.
Best wishes

  • Windows 8.1 photosmart 6520 printer app won't open

I have an AsusQ301L running Windows 8.1, with Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 running. Just bought a Photosmart 6520 and installed driver software from HP website.  The printer will print form my applications, but the HP Application software will not open.  I've removed the software and reinstalled with no change. Uninstalled, copied installation disk to USB (on another machine as this one does not have CD drive) and reinstalled with no change.  Cannot open App from Windows 8.1 start screen, from desktop task bar, from desktop icon.
I can print from my computer and can scan to my computer, but the application SW will not open.  The software opens fine on other family members computers, and HP Pavillion and a Toshiba Satellite, bith running 8.1.
Any clues as to why I cannot open the software?

  • Itunes new down loads with OS5 show up with a light print, but won't "open"

When I download new podcasts, the print shows up "light" where I can read it, bit it won't open up.
The "old" downloads fonts are dark, and I still can open them.

You installed the Conduit spyware. To remove it, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar, then copy the following text into the box that opens:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Conduit
Delete the selected item, if it exists.
Now select Go to Folder… again and enter:
    /Library
From the folder that opens, delete the following items, if they exist. You may be prompted for your login password.
    Application Support/Conduit
    InputManagers/CTLoader
    LaunchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/ct_scripting.osax
Close the folder. Now select Go to Folder… again and copy:
    /Applications/Toolbars
Delete that item. Close the Finder windows you opened. Log out and log back in.

  • Help... Print Settings Won't Open

In order to get to the ABW printing mode, I need to have "Printer Manages Colors" selected for "Color Handeling".  Then when I click on "Print Settings" I get the normal "Print" box that comes up where I have access to normal "Print Settings" options, one of which is "ABW" under "Print Mode".  And this has been working fine.  Then all of a sudden today, when I enable "Printer Manages Colors" and I click "Print Settings" nothing happens.  No new dialog box opens to the "Print" options as it usual does.  Nothing pops up.  If I switch color handling back to "Photoshop Manages Colors" and click on the "Print Settings" the box opens up as normal… but now of course the ABW option is greyed out.
I tried reinstalling the printer driver (Epson 3880)… but it's not related to the driver since it happens on multiple printers (HP & Epson).  This is a problem within Photoshop.  To make sure I'm not crazy, I tried it on another computer and it works as expected.
What could have caused this and how do I fix it?
PS and OSX are on their current versions (12.0,.4 and 10.7.3 respectively)

Ok, this is crazy... So, I moved the image I wanted to print over to my laptop.
I opened it in Photoshop on my laptop... where I had JUST confirmed that everything worked... and now the same thing is happening on the laptop.  So, I then switched to a different user on the laptop and opened Photoshop and was able to bring up the "Print Settings" box as normal.  Then, I opened the image in this users Photoshop and IT STOPPED WORKING!
How is it possible that an image can effect this?
There is nothing special about this image... it is tiff generated by Aperture from an iPhone photo.  There is nothing out of the ordinary.
And now, none of these instances of Photoshop will bring up the "Print Settings" box when color handeling is set to "Printer Manages Colors"... on ANY image. If I close out Photoshop, reboot my computer and relaunch Photoshop never even opening the image that started it, it no longer works.
    WTF?
    Update:
Ok, so I deleted all the Adobe PS related files in the Library->Preferences folder.  I reopend photoshop with another image and was able to get to the "Print Settings" box with "Printer Manage Color" enabled.  I then opened the tif I was planning on printing and sure enough, it no longer works.  So I delete the Adobe PS related files again.  However, before I did this I flattened the tif and saved it as a jpg (using Save For Web).  And now when I open that image I can get to the "Print Settings" box fine.
So, it looks like it was that tif that was causing the problem... but:
    a.  Why would it cause the problem since there is nothing (apparent) different than other images I've taken on the iPhone, processed in Aperture and then printed?
    b. Why would it cause a problem so that Photoshop is effected even when that image isn't open?
    c. Which preferences files exactly was the one that caused it (I deleted everything related to "Adobe" in the preferences folder... there are far too many to test one by one).
    Update 2:
Just to make sure, I opened another tif processed the same way in Aperture taken from the same iPhone and had no problem.

  • Installed iLife08 - now Epson Print CD won't open - HELP!

Hi everyone, not sure where this belongs. I recently installed iLife '08 and have just tried to use Epson Print CD for my R230, and it won't even open. It flashes briefly on the dock then just disappears.
    HELP PLEASE!

There was nothing wrong with the software. All working perfectly fine UNTIL I installed iLife '08. Anyways, after googling various possibilities, I downloaded an application called OnYx, did a dust and clean and all is good! Thanks anyways for trying to help!
PS. My disk utilities didn't do the trick but this other thing did.

  • Print driver won't open

I have just downloaded a printer driver for sublimation printing from a reputable firm called Sawgrass, a leader in the sublimation industry.
Upon double clicking on the driver, I get the following message: "Sublijet-R SGG7100DN (American).pkg" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developler.
I have also held down the "control" key then clicked on open, eventually it brings me back to the same error message. Obviously, without the print driver I will be unable to print out my designs.
Any help would greatly be appreciated!

See the heading "How to open an app from a unidentified developer" on this support page. The instructions apply to Installer packages and other installable items as well as applications.

  • Print Dialog Box won't Open

My husband has an Intel Mac Mini that has issues. He can't open the print dialog box from any application--Mail, Firefox, Quickbooks, Word, etc. He can't print anything at all because the dialog box won't open when selecting <file> and <print> or clicking the print icon if there is one in that application. I deleted the printers and reinstalled the drivers...nothing. I upgraded from OS 10.7 to 10.8...again nothing. I zapped the pram...still nothing. I've been using Macs for 15 years and this issue has got me stumped. Any suggestions?

I was unable to find the SavedData file.  I am running Windows 7 and there seems to be two files there /Roaming/Adobe/InDesign and /Roaming/Adobe/AdobeInDesing5.5 and neither one has a clear file name "InDesign SavedData" for me to remove.  I think I found the "InDesign Debaults" under the /Roaming/Adobe/InDesign/version7.5/en_US/InDesignDefaults.  Is that one it?

  • Print Properties Buton Won't Open

I want to print a coupon online & when I go to File, Print, Properties, the Properties Button is Enabled & Highlights but the window won't open??? Please help! Thank You! ;-)

Yes, the printer is selected in the Name:.
Yes, the Status: does show it's Ready.
And, finally the Print to file is not selected.
I should have done this to begin with before I asked the question, but I went ahead and restarted Firefox and it solved my problem. Thank You so much for your help, though! ;-)

  • I have Windows 8.1 and Adobe CS6 - acrobat just stoped working, won't open anything won't print to pdf. HELP!

Please help me!! I have Windows 8.1 and Adobe CS6 creative Suite. Adobe Acrobat x just quit, It won't open anything and it wont print to PDF. I need this for work!

Typically, the repair is done from the Control Panel>Programs & Features. In the future, try that route. Glad you found something that worked. When you do come to the forums for help, you may not get an immediate response, but may have to wait for someone familiar with your issue happens to check the forum, possibly after work. In any case, glad you have a working product again.

  • Just installed a new kodak printer and now photoDeluxe 2.0 won't open says not enough memory

just installed new kodak all in one
printer and now my photodeluxe 2.0
won't open. This program has worked fine for years can anyone tell me what's going on and how to fix it?

Boy, did you stumble into the wrong forum...
This is the Camera Raw forum relating to raw processing of digital captures-it has zero to do with PhotoDeluxe (which I don't think has been for sale in YEARS...). Sorry, there are no active forums for PhotoDeluxe. Guess you need to upgrade to Photoshop Elements to be even close to current...

  • Tools, Sign, Comment   Print won't open, can't highlight or comment

I have a Late 2010 MacBook Air running OS 10.9.4. I version of Adobe Reader with which I am having trouble is 11.0.07. I only recently got this machine but I didn’t have any similar issues on my previous Late 2010 MacBook Air. This previous machine was running OS 10.8 “Mountain Lion” whereas this machine is running 10.9 “Mavericks."
My problem: whenever I try to open Tools, Comments or Sign menus in the sidebar, it’s a never-ending loading wheel; highlights and comments don’t work on PDFs; it won’t open the Print command.
In addition, these errors may help with diagnostics.
Often when I first try to open a document, if the application doesn’t unexpectedly quit, I get this error:
"There was an error opening this document. Failed to load an application resource (internal error).”
Also, when I try to open the “Check for updates” command under the Help bar, I get the error "An unimplemented or obsolete function was called.”
I haven’t been able to find anything on this on the Adobe Reader forums or by googling various forum results.
    Thanks,
    Adam

Please try to uninstall the existing version and install the latest version and see if it works - http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/
