Hp printern6500A Plus on Imac

I am having a problem installing my new printer on my new Imac. Lion ox. Where can I find Help.  I am so frustrated at this point.
have been working on it all day. Thanks

This may or may not allow scanning from your printer to your Mac, but it is the only full feature software for your printer and 10.8: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=dj-108350-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Have you tried scanning with the Image Capture app in your Applications folder?

  • Since downloading Mtn.Lion my epson printer doesn't work correctly & the entire system seems to be slower plus my iMac now disconnects from my wifi every time the mac sleeps. Can anyone help me with these issues?

I am having problems with my Imac (approx 1 yr old) every since I downloaded (from the App.Store) Mountain Lion.  I am a working mom with 3 toddlers.....I have very little time to work on the computer which I primarily use for photograhpy needs.  I am not computer savvy enough to figure out how to "fix" the new issues/problems and am frustrated.  I am hoping someone can help me........
Issues just since downloading Mountain Lion:
    1)  My Epson R2400 printer is not printing properly.  It wouldnt print at all from CS5 the first 2 days.  Then just started printing.  The prints aren't nearly as good as they used to be.  I just installed Photoshop Elements 10 and have been able to print but the prints are just awful. I printed a test page and it was perfect.  I've triple checked the settings in the print dialogue box to ensure the correct paper is chosen, etc.  I've never let the printer manage the color before but it is the only option that gives a mediocre print at best.
I've gone to Epson.com.   It says to update driver through Apple for Mtn. Lion.  According to my computer I have no updates.  Printer is connected via USB. Changed the ports, turned printer on & off.  Emailed epson & they said to reset the print queue, which I did.  Restarted the IMac Still no luck.  (The error message I got when trying to print from CS5 is "filter failed." But, as stated before it just started printing today as I was typing this.
I print out pics quite a bit and it seems the only time I have ever had problems is when I upgraded the OSX system. Why is that??  When I upgraded to 10.7 is when I first realized my print quality went down.
    2)  Now every time I "wake" up my computer it has become offline and has to go through the steps to reconnect to my wifi.  Never did that before Mtn.Lion.  I purchased the Airport Extreme Dec 2011.  My computer was always connected before the update.  Now I have to scroll down & pick my network & wait for it to connect before proceeding.   I double checked preferences and it is set up to check for updates automatically.  What is that about??
    3)  It just seems that my system overall is slower.  I love my mac but I am frustrated because I don't have the free time needed to do all this problem solving.  I just need it to work properly when I have a few minutes to work on a picture.  I imagine there are other issues, but these are the only  2 areas I've focused on since the upgrade.
I've read different views/feedback on Mtn Lion but haven't come across the printer issue or the wifi connection issue.
Can anyone direct me towards a solution? I really appreciate it!
    T

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • Can I use a 21" iMac as an external monitor?

I'm considering getting an iMac or Mac Mini so I can run Xcode.
My budget is low, so I'm considering just getting a Mini and using it with an old VGA/DVI monitor.
However, as the iMac includes a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, it's actually the same price as a Mini with a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
Plus, the iMacs are more powerful.
I don't intend to do much on it, just Xcode and maybe some gaming. Gaming is not the deciding factor here.
I've been searching for an answer for hours, and all I found were outdated threads.
    My question is:
Are 8GB of RAM really necessary for Xcode, and is the quad-core CPU of the iMac needed?
I also read that an iMac can be used as an external display, but only the 27" models.
    I am looking at a 21" 2013 model.
I currently use a Windows gaming desktop, and have lots of extra monitors lying around.
Multi-display support is a must for me, and the iMac screen is way better than anything else I have.
Is it possible to use a 21" iMac as an external display for a Windows machine using a DVI/DisplayPort adapter?
I've read in different forums that "it has to be Thunderbolt". "It has to be a 27" not a 21". "It has to be 2010 or older".
    Basically:
Can I use an iMac as an external display for my Windows desktop, and can it be the 21" model?
I'm not getting a Mac very soon, so please take your time.
    -Thanks a lot,
    Nick
BTW: This is my first post, so it's probably horrible.

Hello Nick, A a warm welcome.. great 1st post too!
I'm afraid using the iMac for a PC Monitor is out, unless it might be a newer PC that has a thunderbolt prt & can output Video through TB port. 2009/2010 iMacs can use MDP. But 21.5" iMacs work as well as the 27" ones for either method.
Not sure DVI or even DisplayPort converters work though.
Here's how it's supposed to work...

Mid 2011s & up need Thunderbolt!

Are 8GB of RAM really necessary for Xcode, and is the quad-core CPU of the iMac needed?
Well, problem is twofold, 4 GB is barely enough for the OS & one App, & you can't really upgrade the RAM yourself later.
I'd go for the Quad core, computers always get slower over time!
Might be some 209/2010 options here...

  • New imac keeps freezing.

I've had my new imac for 4 days and every day it keeps freezing this is normally on a screen saver or front row, I have tried force quit but nothing seems to help and in the end have to restart my imac, I have also done clean install but it is still keeps freezing up.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Mikey.

We have a few threads on this now.. So its certainly a significant issue I feel.
But to repeat what I said in another thread recently (because my iMac does this too).. I don't think it is a heat issue. I've checked system temps and although warm.. They are nothing out of the ordinary.
Plus, my iMac has locked up very soon after being turned on, when it could not have heated up so fast anyway. Plus it will still lock up if I use 3rd party software to ramp up the fan speeds more.
I could be wrong of course, but that is my hunch..
I've run hardware tests, including Apples own and Techtool tests. Multiple times even. And they have never shown any faults. I also eliminated any possibility of bad ram, by removing the apple supplied ram altogether and substituting for another chip, but still it locks up.
For those of you who's new (mid 2007) iMacs suffer this, you should find that most of the time, there is an error/crash log generated in the console under the system logs heading.
The logs will be big, but it may well be worth posting them up here, because someone smart enough should be able to decipher them and tell us what the problem really is. Im no techy, but what I have seen so far doesn't suggest anything obvious, but looks like lots of memory addresses? Another user in a different post reported the same thing. So I may post one up later..
So far, im leaning towards some software issue rather than any hardware defect. In which case an update should fix it. But again, thats just my opinion and semi-educated guess!

  • How to install office 2013 professional plus

    Dear;
I wonder how to install office 2013 professional plus in IMAC.
I use bootcamp to install windows 8 and then install office 2013 professional plus?

It does not run on Macs, only on Windows. So, yes, you would need to install Windows on your computer or:
Get Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
These two suites are similar to Libre Office:
    NeoOffice - $30.00
    Open Office

  • IMac or G5

Having been well and truly converted to Apple by my MacBook Pro, I will shortly be relegating my PC to a "boring work only" machine and buying a shiny new Apple for the more interesting stuff, like Video Editing, Music etc. My question is this. Is it worth shelling out the extra cash for a G5 or will a 20" iMAC do the job. I mean are the G5's for the real big business types?
Many thanks for comments in advance
    Geoff

If your applications are universal, go with the imac. The intels are as fast as all but the quad g5s. And they are much - much cheaper. If most of your applications will run in emulation on the intel machines, you should either 1. get a g-5 or 2. use bootcamp to run xp on the new imac.
The fact that you can run all windows apps natively on the imac is a huge advantage it has over all g5s. The gpu in the imacs is underclocked too. That is why in some benchmarks, you will see the g-5s perform well against the imacs. But the intel's gpu can be bumped up a little to make them fly. Plus the imac is an amazingly well designed unit. It takes up little space, and has plenty of usb and firewire ports. Also has a mini dvi for extended desktop. A big minus for the g-5 is its form factor. It is massive, heavy, hot and noisy.
My advice is to either get an imac, or wait for the intel towers.

  • Is there a NAS box that works well with OSX

I've always struggled with NAS boxes & OSX.  Sure, I can connect them up, and copy files to and from a mac, but eventually I always seem to run into issues.  Suddenly I can no longer access the files, or I can no longer connect at all, or it fails to connect with a specific user, etc.   I end up grovelling around support forums, typing sudo this & sudo that and eventually I can access the files again - until the next time.  They seeem to be more trouble than they are worth.  At least for me.  I've had these problems with Leopard, Snow Leopard & now with Lion.
I've got a macbook pro that only I use, plus an iMac that all the family use (including me).  What I want to be able to do is to have a NAS box set up with a private share for each member of the family that only they can access, plus a public share that everyone can copy files to and from.
I want to be able to access the public share from both computers at the same time.
Suppose my wife is logged on on the iMac, and she's streaming a movie from the public share using iTunes to the ATV2.  I want to be able to fast-user-switch to my account & access the files in the public share, and also my private share.
I want to be able to access files on my private share from both my macbook pro and the iMac.  At the same time.
I want family members to be able to access their private shares, and also the public share from their Windows laptops as well as the iMac.
I can't see the problem with doing these things.  As long as permissions a managed by the NAS box not the individual pcs & macs it should be easy.  But of course it isn't!
Does anyone run this sort of setup, where it works seamlessly?  If so, what sort of NAS box are you using?
If not, maybe the way to go would be to get a Mac Mini and set it up with Lion Server as a file server.  Would that work better?

You're welcome - make sure you follow Epson's instructions when you get it; don't know if they've changed it, but about 2 years ago, I had to connect it via USB first before connecting it wirelessly; also had to get the MAC address via the setup on the LCD panel so the router could recognize it.
Some of that has gotten easier/automatic with Lion, so just be sure you follow whatever the quick setup sheet says. Their support is pretty good, they usually respond within a reasonable amount of time.

  • Shared heading missing from sidebar

i have a macbook pro listed below, plus an imac 2.66 intel core 2 duo. i can see the mac book pro in the sidebar of the imac, but not the other way round. a while ago i remember "hiding" the shared tab from the sidebar, now i can not retrieve it .both are connected to the internet, and i am sharing files between the 2 as i write this. can anyone point me in the right direction please?

    So you don't see this?

  • HT4260 setting up extended roaming network

I have an Airport Extreme and a new Time Machine. Because of the logistics of my house, the Airport Extreme base station must be the primary connection. When I go to set up Connection Sharing on it I get a conflict message stating that the IP address conflicts with that of the base station and the network does not work.
If both the A.E. base station and the Time Machine are set to Off (Bridge Mode) the network works fine.
I do not know how to configure an IP. Can the network function as it is (both devices set to Bridge Mode) or must I change the IP for the base station?
(computers connected --- Older Mac Pro (no wireless or bluetooth --- connected via ethernet cable) plus two iMacs and a MacBook and phones connected wirelessly)
    thanks

    hi
The situation described sounds a lot like the setup I have been thinking about for my home.
I have been reading the forums and apple's articles about the roaming network - this seems clearly the way to go if you can have the cabling, and you need more than one Airport basestation for better coverage and/or airtunes speakers.
However, in my home, I do not want the airport extreme to be providing the dhcp services.
The reason is that in this case (as I understand HT4260) I need two LAN cables to the primary airport extreme (=AE1) - one from the adsl-Modem+router to the AE1, and another cable from this AE1 back to the switch. From that switch I can reach the other Airport Extreme and Airport Express via the LAN cables. But, I don't have two cables available from a reasonable location where the AE1 can be placed with some useful coverage. I can set it up as described, but then the AE1 is stuck away in a closet with lots of concrete around it in a place where I don't really need coverage - wasting one AE1.
So... what I would like to do is the following:
    -           phone line with adsl
    \ and =  cat 5/6 LAN cable
------ ADSL+router ============= (wan) AE1      (create the same network; internet as bridged)
             (runs DHCP)
\       \============== (wan) AE2       (create the same network; internet as bridged)
\================= (wan) AX3       (create the same network; internet as bridged - add the speakers)
              add more as needed
and Optionally:                                AX4               (extend - so wirelessly - the same network; internet bridged - add the speakers)
    My questions:
    a) Would this create a good roaming network?
    b) Would this create a good roaming network on both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz - assuming AE and AX are both the latest models?
    c) Would the optional AX4 - which is not wired to the main switch - be able to extend this network - just so that I can get the music in the room I like - actually outside on the terras; of course in parallel to the other AE/AX at the same time?
    d) Would this wireless extension slow down any of the other connections? Or only the clients of AX3 (as an example) to which AX4 connects wirelessly?
I am trying to get some feedback before buying one or more AE or AX to replace/extend my old 1st gen n model Airport Xpress.
    Which leads me also to:
    e) will the 1st-gen-n A xpress work nicely with n-speeds on the 2.4 band together with all the other ones?
Obviously I would loose my 5Ghz network and guest-networks in the area covered by this older AX?
(I very likely use this older as my "AX4" in the example above.
    Thanks for your help!

    13. Mouse & keyboard $20
Hopefully I have everything and are ready to go... let me know?

    Several drawbacks to that iMac:
    1) Slower, less powerful CPU - fewer cores and fewer threads. Plus, no iMac can be overclocked at all; they are permanently locked at stock speed.
    2) No RAID support or capability whatsoever.
    3) Can only accommodate a single internal fast disk - period. That disk, unfortunately, is used for the OS and programs. The only viable outputs on that iMac are the Thunderbolt ports - and they, too, are limited as to the number of disks that can be connected.
    4) The 3TB disk is normally way, way, way overkill for an OS disk. However, given the complete lack of internal upgradability and the lack of internal space, Apple might as well install the largest-capacity disk it could get its hands on.

  • MAIL My typeface keeps changing itself

I have set my typeface to heleticae Neue LIGHT in my mail preferences and although that stays there, the body of mail email gets systematically changed to Helvetica "Regular" I like the Light version because it is the same typeface as my signature  and I am in the interior design industry..
Anyone has the same problem? any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Mine switches to my daughters info by itself also.  My wife, daughter and I are all logged into my iCloud account on each of our iPhones (plus my iMac and MacBook Air) so that the "Find iPhone" app will show the location of each of our devices.  "My Info" never switches to my wife's information, just my daughters?????
I'm now trying the "Don't Allow Changes" function under Settings/General/Restrictions/Allow Changes/Accounts - to see if that will keep it from automatically changing.
Will try to report back if this works.  I do not know what triggers the automatic change.

  • HP 6500A lossing connection on my Mac OS X

    Hi,
I have been frustrated with this problem for far to long and have not found any help by reading other posts,  I will try to outline my details below.  Any help would be fantastic.
    I have the following:
    HP Officejet 6500A Plus E710nz
iMac OS X version 10.6.8 that is connected wireless to Belkin Surf Wireless modem Router.
    The issue:
I can install the printer fine,  I go through all of the steps following the installation CD and the printer establishes a connection and says the setup is complete.  The IP address qouted in the installation matches that of printer when I print a wireless network summary from the touch screen on the printer.  However as soon as I close the setup and try to print a document the printer goes offline and does come back on.  Why does it do this??
I have uninstalled using the HP unistaller and ctrl opt command to completely uninstall all HP software and printers and reinstalled but still no luck.  I have done this multiple times.  I have reset the modem and printers multiple times but still no luck.
    Help please?
    Ben

    OK, great questions.
DHCP is a service in your router that automatically issues IP addresses to devices that want to join the network.  You are right in that all of the IP addresses on a network have to be the same for the first three segments and the last segment is the unique identifier for each device.  This last segment can range from .2 to .254 in theory.  In most routers the DHCP range is limited to less than the full range.  .1 is reserved for the router itself (called the Gateway address).
To do this right you really should find out the DHCP range of your router.  Here is how to enter the router settings (from the manual): In your browser, type “http://router” (you do not need to type in anything else such as “www”) . Then press the Enter key . If you’re still having trouble running the manual setup option, type “192 .168 .2 .1” in your browser (you do not need to type in anything else such as “http://” or “www”) . Then press the Enter key.
Hunt around until you find the DHCP range, then place the printer outside the range.  You can also change the range in the router settings.  A hundred IP addresses is more than enough for DHCP.
I think something else is going on, but this is fun to play with.
When the printer goes off-line, does it really (like it loses its IP address) or does your Mac just fail to find it.  When it shows offline print a Wireless Network Test from the Wireless menu on the front of the printer.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Good substitute for Final Cut Express?

I tried a free month of Final Cut Express over a year ago. When done I found that the version I got If I bought was a newer version. I presume the two versions involved were 3.5 and 4.0. So I must have tried 3.5.
I liked it a lot! It would have been $200 as I recall. Now I find that It's no longer available. It had all the function I want and I cannot afford to pay for Final Cut Pro considering the relatively small amount of "work" I intend to do with it. I've since upgraded to Mountain Lion and it appears I cannot run Final Cut Express on this system. Plus, my iMac is mid 2010 with 4gb memory.
Is there some app out there that can do what FCE did?
One function in particular was very useful to me as a musician -- being able to stretch the audio from my Zoom recorder to match the audio/video from my camcorder.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello David
Quick question which may be helpful for Bruce:
I'm familiar with the controversy over the original release of FCX. There was great disatisfaction and disappointment because the first release appeared to be more of a glorified iMovie. Many professional features were replaced with templates creating a 'dumbed down' platform, (nothing like FCP).
Many FC Pro users were outraged. Many abandoned FC, and went with Avid.
Is it true Apple admitted to a 'flawed design' with X, and put back a lot of Pro features that were missing?
    Thanx
    Mike
