Hp Printers and Norton 360 Diagnostic Report?

I have had this problem for a long time and have never gotten any postitive solution for it. I have had HP printers for longer than when I started using Norton,But ever since the 5,0 version and later I have had trouble with the Run Diagnostic Report feature that ALWAYS show my HP printer drivers as not installed. Now!  the Printers all work fine except if I go to Device Manager it will show the yelow exclamation mark then I'll update the drivers thru DM,but windows will fail to locate the drivers, but the printers AGAIN I say work fine. Now most of the techs that I've talk to and chatted with at Norton support tell me that as long as the printers work to ignore the Diagnostic Report!!!! Now I have version 6 and the problem still exists. You would think that if it didn't go away in the next version (6) then something is wrong with the software that should REALLY be addressed. Now the over-time effects from this issue is that I might come home and maybe needing to send a fax, print -up a envelop thru Stamps.com or just print and find that my printers dissappeared from  Devices and Printers And then I'm forced to re-install the drivers all over again. (ALWAYS theFull Version) Now with the new drivers I still have the same issue. There is an issue with the Diagnostic Report features the prevents the drivers of my printers from registering as installed. When I go into properties for the printers it says: The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28). But the printers are working???????? I've also talked to many HP support techs online and they take me over and over thru the process of un-installing the software complete and re-installing it and I still end up with the same results. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this issue or who to talk to to get maybe both companies to research this issue???

Now before you suggest installing with the Anti-virus and the firewall off well!! I've done it all. Is there a feature that's not being installed or missing that prevents the drivers from being read properly or at all?? That's stopping it from registering in Device Manager?

  • Are there any compatability issues with V6 and Norton 360 as there have been in the past?

When I last tried to upgrade to a newer version, a number of my Norton 360 features would not function and I got a popup message saying that there was some sort of compatability problem. I've subsequently had to go back to V4.

Ne there aren't any "issues" with Norton. Norton released a compatibility patch for Firefox 6 last Tuesday, a couple of hours after Firefox 6 was released.

  • Firefox and Norton 360

I noticed that since in installed Norton 360 I keep getting a notice that Firefox "is not responding". Is there a problem with Norton and Firefox. Firefox will stall for a few second and then work fine until the next incident. This only began after installing Norton 360.

The Norton toolbar should be compatible with Firefox 26.
Try to run Norton live updates a few times.
Norton has had updates for their toolbar extensions ever since Firefox 26.0 was released December 10.

Some say it is best to do live updates before the new Firefox update. You may have to do live update multiple times to get extension to work.

  • I cannot load one trusted website, none of the suggested solutions work, fixed Norton 360 as recommended, cleared all history, but still I get "The connection was reset", I get the website using Internet Explorer - help please!

I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit) with Mozilla 5.0 and Norton 360 4.3.0.5. I used to be able to load the website URL below, but it stopped loading about a month ago. I've tried all the suggested solutions without success. All other browsing is fine, The owners of the website say that they have NOT blocked my access.

I see the same with Google Chrome.

  • How can I download FF 6? FF 7.0.1.4288 (the version I am using) is not compatible with Norton 360. I need to return to FF 6.

FF 7.0.1.4288 intermittently uses 97-100% of CPU capacity for a few seconds, alternating with a few seconds of normal idle usage; this can continue for long periods. During these periods the computer responds very slowly. I can terminate it (temporarily) by rebooting.
FF 7 occasionally uses 97-100% of capacity continuously for several minutes; my impression is that it would continue indefinitely if I did not reboot. When I try to reboot in this condition, FF does not respond, I have to click End Now, in which case previous sessions are not saved.
Norton believes this is due to an interaction between FF 7 and Norton 360. They say that 7.0.1.4288 is a beta version. Norton tells me that 360 should become compatible with FF 7 in a month or two. In the mean time I need to reinstall FF 6.
I cannot see how to do this on your website.
    Please help.

Firefox 7.0.1 is an update to Firefox 7.0 and there was no beta of Firefox 7.0.1.
You may need to update Norton. A patch for their toolbar to make it compatible with Firefox 7 was released on the same day that Firefox 7 was released. You may need to run Norton's "Live Update" several times to get all that is needed.

You have multiple old Java Console extensions that Java did not clean-up during updates. You need Java Console only if you do Java programming/development or debug Java applets on web pages. • After upgrade, I lost Norton 360 Toolbar & passwords. How can I restore?

I have Windows 7 and Norton 360. After I Upgraded Firefox I lost
Norton and Google toolbar, both which I use. How can I restore them?

You need to contact Norton about their plans for supporting Firefox 4. It is quite common for companies to only support a new version of a browser after it has been officially released, and not support it during the beta/release candidate phase.

  • Firefox 34 and Norton Internet Security (Version 21 ff) Don't Like Each Other and It's Not the Toolbar!

I have discovered that Norton Internet Security (and Norton 360 as well) version 21 and after conflicts with Firefox version 33.0 and later. I have been running the latest Firefox 34 version. When I upgraded on two of my computers to the latest version of NIS (version 21) Firefox (version 34) froze; indeed it locked up the entire computer. I therefore installed Google Chrome and everything worked fine. I can reproduce this error with Firefox like the flip of a switch; it is very consistent! The conflict, by the way, does not go away by disabling the Norton toolbar. I want to continue to use Firefox, and not Chrome, but I don't want the browser to freeze the machine. I run Windows 7 Professional. Do you have any suggestions?

Oh... I spoke too soon. I went into my office today and ran Norton 360 (Version 21.6) and Firefox 34.0.5 thinking that all would be well because I shut off Hardware Acceleration. Boy, was I wrong. Norton 360 crashed with the Windows message: "Norton 360 has stopped working; it will be shut down." I immediately shut down the computer (even though someone was actually in my office at the time), rebooted, no longer ran Firefox and did a complete virus scan. All is well if I do not use Firefox 34. And so.... I am going to make my life easier and simply move over to Chrome at least on my office machine. I just don't see any other way out of this predicament. I do this reluctantly because Chrome is much slower than Firefox is especially the way I run it. Firefox 34 and NIS Version 21.6 just don't like each other.
Thanks for your help. It's been a good thread even though I could never figure this out.
    Needs more help.

    thanks for the reply.
how effectively diagnostic reports can be used for system performance. please give more ideas.

  • Upon running Norton Security Suite Diagnostic Report on my HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC on a Windows 7 Home Premium platform, it shows 2 (hidden) devices not working: Antilog32, and AODDriver4.1--Code 24.

On the General tab for device status it says: "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)" The only option available when I click
on properties of both devices is Start. When I click on Start for Antilog32, this message shows: "The system encountered the following error when it attempted to start the service: The system cannot find the file specified." For AODDriver4.1, the
message when you click Start on Driver tab is: "The system encountered the following error when it attempted to start the service: The system cannot find the path specified." I do not know how to proceed or
how to fix this, or where to find a solution. Please help!

    Hello pds48478480,
Do you mean you got the error code 24 in Norton Security Suite Diagnostic Report?
Please share us a screenshot for better analyzation.
Please take a look at the following thread about the AODDriver4.3.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/the-aoddriver43-service-failed-to-start-due-to-the/cb6b7f03-922b-4b82-972f-e92ef9919964
AODDriver 4.3 is used by AMD OverDrive which tune parameters to help system stability, optimize performance, and control cooling/acoustic characteristics.
With the issue description it seems the driver and the service is either stopped or not working correctly.
Refer to the link below and install the latest version of AMD OverDrive.

  • Norton 360 tells me it does not support installation of my 10.6.8 but I have to upgrade to 10.7. Is there any benefit doing this and if so how do i do it? my thanks for any advice...

I was encouraged to purchase antivirus protection NORTON 360 for my MacBook pro. However when I went to install it it says NORTON 360 doesn't support installation of 10.6.8 but i have to upgrade to 10.7.
Is this really necessary, can you tell me what are the benefits. Does it cost to upgrade?
I'm thinking I will take the Norton back and demand a refund for misleading me. It doesn't qualify this on the box either.
I'd appreciate any advice with thanks...

Installing Norton / Symantec products on a Mac will result in nothing but misery while conveying no benefit whatsoever. Return it to whomever it was that encouraged you to waste your time and money on it.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up",  "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements
If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iCloud, iTunes, or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Beware spontaneous popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > check "Block popup windows".
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but unsolicited popups are commonly used to deceive people into installing unwanted software they would never intentionally install.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever receive a popup window indicating that your Mac is infected with some ick or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it. The more insistent it is that you upgrade or install something, the more likely it is to be a scam. Close the window or tab and forget it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. Most of these attempts are pathetic and are easily recognized, but that hasn't stopped prominent public figures from recently succumbing to this age-old scam.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.
    ... i have to upgrade to 10.7.
Is this really necessary, can you tell me what are the benefits.
Assuming you are asking about upgrading OS X: no, it's not necessary, but if you want to upgrade you can skip OS X 10.7 and upgrade directly to Mavericks, or Yosemite when it is released. Both are free and preferable to Lion, which would cost money. If and when you decide to do that be sure to back up your system prior to upgrading OS X, as a precaution against the unexpected.
I have heard anecdotal reports that Apple has, or soon will, stop providing security updates to Snow Leopard. I have not confirmed them personally, but Apple generally ceases to support outdated OS X versions after a few years. Snow Leopard was superseded over three years ago. That's no reason to panic but it is something to keep in mind.

  • I downloaded Firefox 4 and now I can't find/load my Norton 360 toolbar. I have completed all helpful suggestions but no luck what do I need to do get my toolbar back? - PLEASE HELP!

Need to load Norton 360 toolbar with Firefox 4 as this did not load when I downloaded to Firefox version 4. Please help....

The "Add-Ons" screen should tell you whether the Norton 360 toolbar is disabled because of incompatibility with Firefox 4. If it is then you have two options:
    - you can install the "Add-On Compatibility Reporter" plugin. That will let you enable the Norton toolbar even though it is not supported, but then the toolbar might not work as expected (and it might introduce other problems as well).
    - or you can wait for Symantec to release a compatible version of the toolbar (recommended)

  • Cannot change numerous History settings in Privacy tab (is Norton 360 and/or Avast causing this problem?)

I have Norton 360 and Avast Internet Security 2014.
I AM able to change most Firefox settings.
I am NOT able to change numerous Privacy settings (mainly History and Use custom settings for history, including all subsettings). When I change certain Privacy/History settings, the browser tells me it must close and restart to disable this existing setting. When I open the Privacy tab after browser restart, I see that the change(s) I made did NOT take effect.
I have two enabled firewalls, managed by Norton and Avast, respectively (the Windows 7 OS firewall is disabled, probably because of the third-party management by Norton and Avast).
***What, specifically, is causing this problem (being unable to change some important Privacy/History settings), and what can I do to regain the ability to make any and all Privacy setting changes whenever I want to?
    Thanks.

Speaking of avast!, you may want to disable the avast! Online Security extension. A variety of odd problems have been reported with it. You can do that on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
