HP printing breaks between 10.5.6 and 10.5.7... Any ideas?
I have discovered that we have lost the ability to print to our HP 5500s and 5550s after upgrading from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7. Everything was printing just fine until I installed the 10.5.7 Combo Update.
Now, when you print the job just gets hung in the print queue and stays there until you delete it. Also, the printer gets hung and has to be powered off/on to clear it and make it ready for others to use.
Obviously something is getting installed with 10.5.7 that's causing this to happen. I have the same result with the HP Printer Update 1.1.1 installed or not installed.
I'm re-imaged a machine back to 10.5.6 and confirmed that printing works just fine. Is there a way to see what the 10.5.7 Combo Update is updating that is related to HP printing. What I'd like to do is go ahead and update to 10.5.7 and then replace the relevant HP printing files etc. with ones from the 10.5.6 image and hopefully fix it so we can use 10.5.7 and still print.
Hi Greg, I spent some time this morning looking at all of the files in the 10.5.7 Combo package with Pacifist and it didn't have any HP related files in it. So, I'm to assume that a file(s) in the printing framework has changed. There are a lot of those and I'm just not sure the best way to try and play "process of elimination" to find the file(s) that break the HP printing.

Connected to a Dell 1525 laptop via usb cableUnplug the printer, and uninstall it. Then download the Windows 7 CP1215 plug and play driver package from www.hp.com. Install the printer using that package.

hello, i've win7 64bit and can use my adobe acrobat 7.0.0.2004121400. but it is not possible to print a pdf - error 20225 at the installation of acrobat. any ideas how to solve this problem? Wenn überhaupt, dann findeste vielleicht noch 'ne OEM CD von Strato oder 1und1 bei eBay. Die haben das damals mit jedem neuen Hostingvertrag rausgehauen. Aber wie gesagt, es ist den Aufwand nicht wert. Illustrator sollte sich durchaus installieren lassen. Eventuell einfach nochmal die Installer im Win XP Kompatibilitätsmodus laufen lassen...

I am on Acrobat DC trial. On earlier versions have no problem with duplex printing. Now with DC, it's impossible. I have tried downloading latest printer software, etc, etc. Nothing seems to0 work. Any ideas please?
Ralph, Thanks for replying. There where no received SIP messages at all just the INVITE being sent but I have made some more progress. The mini does indeed just work. I can do everything that you are supposed to do to other ichat users on the internet. Very nice.
The imac is still playing up but I have got further. I had peerguardian2 installed which unknown to me doesn't need to be running to prevent you for accessing 'barred' IP addresses. snatmap.mac.com is barred in the lists! I discovered this when I saw one of your other posts showed how to turn on terminal logging for ichat. Now that I have turned off peerguardian2 (using the disable filters option) I can make calls to the testbot and see the adverts. I have even done a video conference with the two testbots. I will just uninstall peerguardian2.
However, I can not get a AV chat working to a real user....

I have tried all the options for quicktime streaming but will try 1.5Mb/s again.
The ichat bandwidth limit is set to "none". I am in New Zealand and I have standard ADSL (not ADSL2+) 7.6M down 512K up. The mini config is also set to none.
Internet sharing is off.
I have had parallels on the machine but the two interfaces that it installed "Parallels Host-Guest" and "Parallels NAT" are configured 'off' and show as not connected. Is this enough? I will uninstall parallels and see if that helps since I don't use it. I also have VMware's thing installed but that doesn't seem to add any interfaces.
I need to capture a full trace of the imac to other ichat user to see what is happening but will update when I have does your suggested changes or have a trace

If necessary (unless your operating system already contains the printer software needed), a downloadable driver for a Deskjet 5420v Photo Printer (is this the exact model?) and Mac OS 10.5 appears to exist according to the support web page below:

To begin with, have you verified that the printer is able to print at all (that the print cartridges are OK, et cetera)? This can usually be done by trying to print a test page (from the computer) via an HP printer utility, or possibly by generating a self-test page (without a connected computer) using an appropriate button combination on the printer itself.

I had downloaded a number of songs on my old iphone 4, but it died before i had a chance to sync with my comp. now i have a new iphone and cant down load any of the songs i once had and have paid for. any ideas??
If you live in the US launch the iTunes store, then tap Purchases, then the "not on this phone" tab. If you don't live in the US you will have to buy them again, unless the iTunes Store support staff takes pity on you when you email them with a request for help.
BTW, how many songs can you download between daily syncs? -

Old school--- > Print it out & keep in a safe place. A place that ONLY you know about AND never forget.
New school---> Get a password manager utility. Highly recommend 1Password which is shareware. Do a Google search for free password managers. -
An email sent from my iMac has a button linked to a clip hosted on Vimeo. When received, the link functions on iMac and iPad, but opens a window of app icons on iPhone and iPod touch. Any ideas what's wrong?
For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions. -
Hi chaps. FaceTime question. I can FaceTime by phoning my iPhone 4 from my iPad 2 but cannot phone my iPad from the iPhone. When facetimeing from phone to iPad the phone says it's busy. The iPad rings once and then stops. Any ideas. Regards Jon

it seems to work when you reset the port
try this only after you've made sure that any antiviral/firewall software isnt blocking iTunes and the internet connection settings are fine
1. go to windows, accessories and right click on command prompt and run as administrator
2. type in netsh winsock reset (i know sounds ridiculous but it works type WITH SPACES) and press enter
3. Message saying "winsock reset successful now reboot your computer"
4. restart your computer, and open iTunes..backup should run much smoother and faster

I have upgraded to an Iphone 6 and am at IOS 8.2. My calendar alerts no longer show up as notifications on my phone. I have gone into settings and double checked that notifications for calendar was on and it is. Any ideas on a fix?
I have iPhone 4s but the same problem with calendar on 8.2 iOS - no sound, no notification appears - but everything is switched on.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
