HP PROBOOK 4520S NOTEBOOK energystar

I want to know , which key should i activate on my keyboard (in conjunction with " the blue symbols or blue characters ") printed on certain keys of my keyboard to see them writing on my display screen , and use them ?

Unfortunately the answer to that question is a no.
The best compatible optional CPU is the Intel Core i7-640M and it is has two physical cores capable of running four threads.

  • HP Probook 4520s Memory upgrade to 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Unsuccessful and Failed

    Ok, here is the story
My notebook is HP Probook 4520s
    with Windows Windows 8.1 (6.3) 64-bit (Build 9600)
Please refer to the end of this post for CPU-Z report of specs.
Currently I have 3GB of memory installed -had to install them back after upgrade failure-.
Please refer again to the CPU-Z report for the memory module specifications.
I bought the following Corsair 2x4GB memory pack
    Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9 8GB (2x4GB) 1333MHz DDR3 SODIMM

When I installed the memory module onto the notebook, I basically couldn't go beyond the POST stage. That is the HP logo appears on the screen, and that's it.. that's it.. nothing beyond that stage.
When I went to the BIOS settings, the memory successfully read 81xxMB, this is basically 8GB of RAM.
I tried to reset BIOS settings, failed again.
I removed the 2x4GB modules, put back both original 1GB and 2GB modules -the ones that came with the notebook-, everything worked again.
    What went wrong here..?
P.S. please do not reply with lame replies like "that's weird" "that's strange", I know it's weird and strange. I want specific and clear suggestions.

  • Hp Probook 4520s won't turn on

    Hi all,
On my Probook 4520s, last night I logged into the BIOS as guest and reset it to default and restored it to factory settings. Now the notebook does not turn on. I don't see anything on the screen, just a black screen and every 5-10 seconds it turns on and turns off by itself. I tried a hard reset but no luck.. Appreciate your help, thanks.
    Regards,
    Yash

Forgot to mention above that my CD ROM does not work, just in case it is required. USB drive works.

  • ProBook 4520s fingerprint scanner missing

    Good day!
I have HP ProBook 4520s (WT173EA#ACB), and as I learned from User's Manual and other sources it should have fingerprint scanner in lower right corner under the keyboard, but there is no scanner. Is there any explanation?

    Hi,

    Hello Kowie.
It sounds like the settigns did not save.  I suggest you try to enroll your fingerprints one more time.
Which version of Windows are you using?
Also, what is the product number of your notebook?  This document can show you where it is located.

  • Probook 4520S Ethernet Interface

I have an HP Probook 4520S.  The Physical RJ45 Ethernet connection stopped working.  Now, when there is NOTHING plugged into it, the Amber LED is always on.
I tried replacing the WLAN card in the system and it is still not working.
Also, there is now an Unknown Device in my device manager with a value of ACPI\HPQ004.
What do I need to replace to repair my ethernet connection?
    Thanks, Fred

    Hi, Fred:
The wired network chip is independent of the wireless card.
Probably you need to have the motherboard replaced, and IMO, you're better off getting a new PC when stuff like that needs to be done.
Below is the link to the driver you need for ACPI\HPQ004
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
Two things you can try before you write off the LAN connection...
    1. Do a hard reset of the notebook.
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=...
    2. Reset the BIOS to its defaults.
If none of that works, and you don't want to pay big bucks to replace the motherboard or buy a new PC, then just purchase a USB to RJ-45 10/100 or 10/100/1000 network adapter.

If your notebook is new enough to have the UEFI diagnostics installed run the barttery test there instead. There is a System Diagnostic UEFI version 3.7.0 update available for your notebook. Install that one if you haven't already done so.

  • Recovery Partition won't engage at boot from F11 after stock Win7 install - Probook 4520s

Notebook: HP Probook 4520s (with Energy Star sticker)
    OS: Windows 7 32-bit
Error: Nothing happens when pressing F11 at boot
Pre-issue changes: Installed Windows 7 from stock Windows 7 disc
I'm a PC Technician with quite a few years behind me, but this got me at a standstill even after a day of searching online for solutions.
A friend bought a ProBook 4520s where the previous owner, just before selling it, installed Windows 7 from a stock Windows 7 disc from Microsoft (I guess to sell it with a 'clean' OS), which of course ened up bare without drivers, etc.
When the install was done though, he/she didn't destroy the HP partitioning (ie, the partitions remained:  SYSTEM, OS (c:\), HP_RECOVERY, HP_TOOLS). Those partitions seem intact, so I'm trying to perform an HP Recovery to bring the computer back to factory settings.
When rebooting, I'm prompted to press 'esc' for options, which I do, then it prompts 'F11' for HP Recovery. When I press F11, it just boots the Windows 7 OS as normal. From what I've managed to gather via searching, I believe something was disturbed on the HP_RECOVERY partition, like the MBR, or something, possibly by the previous user making the HP_RECOVERY partition active, then selecting "Repair Windows" on the Windows disc.
    Solutions I've tried include:
Pressing ESC -> F11 at boot [simply boots as usual].
Setting the HP_RECOVERY partition to 'active' from Disc Management, then rebooting [simply boots as usual].
Installing "Enhanced HP Backup and Recovery Manager for Microsoft Vista" (sp38131.exe) [when run and PC Recovery is selected, it says there is no recovery partition and asks for discs].
Installing "Fix for HP Multi-Partition Recovery Manager" from (sp48415.exe) suggest in the 'green post' here [no change].
Installing "Recovery Manager Installer Patch for Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade" (sp45823.exe)  [no change].
Installing "HP Recovery Manager for Microsoft Windows 7" (sp45602.exe) [no change].
I live far from having access to buying Recovery DVDs from HP, so need a solution to fix this, please. At most, I can download.
The OS in the Recovery, I expect is Windows 7, because there's a Windows 7 sticker on the notebook.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
There isn't anything you can do to get the recovery partition to work once someone removed the HP install with the recovery manager program, which is not available for download.
You will need to order a set of recovery disks by calling 1-800-334-5144.
You will need to provide the model # and serial number for the PC to the customer services rep.
    Cost is $10.
If you do not want to bear the expense, then you can make your own W7 installation disk.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

What you need is the ACPI ( advanced configuration protocol interface) driver for the installed CPU. You can get that at the processor manufacturers support website. Intel's download center is here.

  • Is the ProBook 4520s eSATA port multiplier compatible

I have an HP ProBook 4520s running Windows 7 64 bit.
Is the eSATA port compatible with port multiplier products? If not, is there any hardware I can purchase to solve this?
This is a quote from the external eSATA enclosure that I'm trying to run.
Q Only a single drive appears when using eSATA.
o This means that the eSATA port that the MB561US-4S-1 is connected to does not support port multiplication. Therefore, only the drive in the top bay can be seen by the system. There is a port multiplier built into the MB561 which encodes the 4 SATA connections to a single signal, however another port multiplier is required on the system to decode that signal back to 4 individual SATA connections.

I assume since you cannot see all of the drives it does not, you can try the chat feature on this page to see if a support rep can answer for sure, if not they can log a case number and maybe an engineer can find out and get back to you.

  • HP Probook 4520s: sound card doesn't work (no sound, red mute button)

    Нello!
I have an issue with my HP Probook 4520s. Its internal speakers  and microphone doesn't work. I've tried to install and reinstall drivers from here, tried to rollback driver to older version but I always have the same result: installed the IDT sound codec, and after a restart, the mute button  turned red and I cannot switch it.
    Soundcard device ID: HDAUDIO\FUNK_01&VEN_111&DEV_7605
    OS: Windows 7 Professional x86
    How can I fix it?

Hi, just registered to post my solution. I got HP ProBook 4330s in for repair. Problem: some sticky liquid spilled all over and no sound. Also discovered that no microphone as well, but webcam did work just fine.
    What I tried:
    1) Installed fresh Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit and all official drivers (audio driver did not want to install), still no sound. Sound icon shows red cross. Message: No audio output device installed.
    1) Installed the newest version of BIOS, in my case F.40, still no sound.
    2) Pluged in headphones, still no sound.
    3) Took apart, unpluged and firmly inserted every possbile cable, still no sound.
    4) Found in BIOS everything that relates to Audio. Made sure Audio device is enable, still no sound.
    5) Install XP and installed XP sound driver, still no sound. In fact, that driver did not install correctly, showed some kind of error.
What did work, in consecutive order:
    1) Took apart again and took out the coin battery that retains the BIOS data, date, clock etc.
    2) Put everything back together, switched on, entered the correct date in BIOS settings, and started Win 7 Ultimate. Still no sound. But I noticed that Win 7 Ultimate has found some devices and was installing drivers for it. Though did not check exactly which ones.
    3) If I could not get the sound working I was determined to buy some speakers with USB connection. Then, I remembered that I already had a set of speakers for another laptop. These speakers had USB connection to draw power from and a grean standard headphone connection/plug to draw audio signal. I plugged in these speakers into HP 4330s and the sound started coming from these external speakers. The sound icon next to the clock in bottom right corner switched to normal mode and I could control volume with my mouse. Then I unpluged external USB speakers and the sound started coming from the HP's built in speakers.
Checked with Device Manager that correct sound drivers are installed and microhpone appeared to be installed as well. Though did not check with Skype if microhpone was working.
I was soooo happy!!! I struggled with this problem for three long days, searched many forums (none gave solution), tried everything with drivers, took apart the laptop some three or four times (now I learned to do it with my eyes closed, so to speak).
I started to think that taking out the BIOS/date coin battery did the trick. There must be some glitch in BIOS to motherboard connection in these HP ProBook laptops, and all BIOS settings need to be reset.
I'll be happy if this helps someone.

  • Problem creating Recovery Discs with HP Probook 4530s Notebook PC.

I have a HP ProBook 4530s Notebook computer my daughter gave me. It is 5 months out of warranty. I had to recover it using Recovery Manager and the recovery partition.  The OS is W7 Home Premium 64 bit.
An HP support document says that I can create Windows 7 recovery discs using DVD-R media. It says to click Start, then All Programs, then Recovery Manager.
The problem is there is no Recovery Manager in All Programs. I want to create recovery discs instead of relying on the recovery partition.
I called HP and they had no explanation. I asked them if the instructions were wrong or were they right but for some reason Recovery Manager was missing from All Programs. All they could tell me is to recover it using the recovery partition by restarting the computer and then pushing F11 for the Recovery Manager. That works to recover the computer but NOT to create recovery discs.
Is there any way to create Recovery discs?

    Hi
Not without the recovery manager, which is not included on every HP business notebook.
My HP Elitebook 6930p came with a recovery partition but no recovery disks, recovery manager program to make recovery disks.
    And it cannot be downloaded.
If you live in the USA, call HP at this number, 1-800-334-5144 and order a set of recovery disks.
You will need to provide the model number and serial number to the customer support rep.
Since the notebook is out of warranty, there will be a charge of $10 for the set of recovery disks.

Do you know what kind of graphics card you are supposed to have? Try to reinstall the drivers for your model. Click this link to go the HP Support. You can click "Automatically detect it" to get the right model. It should take you to the support page for your model.  It will have the drivers you need.

You probably need a dedicated graphics card for those games. Intel HD Graphics isn't made for gaming.
