Hp ProBook 4540s screen backlight problem
In my hp 4540s Probook laptop sometimes the screen backlight does not turn on. But pictures are there on the screen when i see it from different angles. And external monitors work fine.
This happens when,
the display goes to sleep and come back again later, the backlight does not turn on
starting the computer (when powering up, the backlight is already not there)
(in both the above cases pictures are there on the screen without the light)
When this happens, i can get the backlight by moving a magnet several times near the right speeker of the laptop (where the backlight senser is, as i know).
Any suggession is really appriceted as I am suffering from this problem a lot since it often interrupts my studies.

Hi all. Maybe someone can help.
My Macbook Pro was one of the units afflicted with the videochip/logic board thermal paste issue and Apple replaced the logic board a year ago.
I am having an issue that I can't figure out (I had the same exact issue a few months ago and it resolved after several smc resets)....
My screen backlight will flicker and then go out completely about 3 minutes after booting up. The ONLY way to get the light back on is to remove the battery, do an SMC reset and then it will work again perfectly....for about 3 minutes.....
The display is there....just not backlit... Also, once or twice the computer booted itself into safe mode (I presume, because it said there was no wireless hardware)
I have tried SMC resets, pram resets, shutting down, going into and out of sleep, etc....
Has anyone else seen this problem?
I am confused by someone I know saying it could either be the inverter or inverter cable or the logic board. I say this because the computer will reset itself (albeit for only 3 minutes each time) and the backlight will work perfectly (again for only 3 minutes) after an smc reset....every single time.
Any ideas?
p.s.....when this happened before and again this time, the computer was in extended sleep mode in my travel bag.....
Thanks for any answers and please let me know if you need more info......(oh, I mentioned that it had the logic board previously replaced because when I called Apple they were ADAMANT that it couldn't possibly be the same issue since all afflicted boards were replaced with newly made parts....) just thought i'd throw that out there.....and the prior logic board issue didn't affect the backlight, but I did have the wonky graphics/lines/etc. That's NOT the problem now.....

Nokia N95 Screen Backlight Problem! Please Help Wi...
Its been about 9 month since I purchased Nokia N95. Last night, when I was watching a video, its screen backlight began to flickr. It turned very dim and then restored. It turned again compeletely off, then came to its normal brightness. I tilted the phone in all ways, hto it gently to know whether some wire inside is loose, open and closed the slider. But the screen went on and off itself. I reset my phone by hard formatting (*#7370#) but of no use. The next day, it did the same. After two days, now it is stable. But I fear it might be started again.
I want to know can this problem be due to some moisture inside my phone or is it because of some hardware proble. And please suggest what should I do. My phone is still under warrenty, but the phone is stable for at least a whole day. Should I carry it to warrenter for repair?
Any suggestions in this regard? Please reply with practical experience and not a hypothetical reply.
I appreciate your cooperation.

Macbook screen backlight problem!
Hi Guys!
I've had my MacBook for about 3 and a half years and it ran splendidly until last week when I had it plugged into my TV through a mini DVI port.
I unplugged it after watching a movie on my TV only for the backlight on the screen not to work. The laptop as a whole works as perfect as ever but the screen backlight is very temperamental and only works for a minute or so on the odd occasion. Because it does work sometimes surely it cant be entirely knackered and I was wondering if there is anything I can do or if I will have to take it to get repaired?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers(oh, I mentioned that it had the logic board previously replaced because when I called Apple they were ADAMANT that it couldn't possibly be the same issue since all afflicted boards were replaced with newly made parts....) just thought i'd throw that out there.....and the prior logic board issue didn't affect the backlight, but I did have the wonky graphics/lines/etc. That's NOT the problem now.....

N82 Screen/Backlight Problem
Hi,
I have had a brand new nokia n82 lying around my house for the last year or so : Unwanted upgrade.
I have recently sold my primary phone and decided to take the n82 out of the box. It is locked to orange and when i turned it on.
1. I can see the animation and start up
2. I hear all the noises
BUT.. Its all in black and white and it is barely visible, and sometimes i need to view the screen at certain angles
SEE ATTACHED PHOTO...
Any idea what the problem is? and how it can be fixed?
Thank you

photo-1.JPG 1295 KBIt sounds like the backlight is kaput. You can see the screen in black and white because there's a reflective layer in the back which uses ambient light to illuminate the screen.
Try doing a three-finger reset to see if it's a software issue: switch phone off, hold green, 3, and #, switch phone on while holding those buttons until you're prompted to set up the phone. If it still doesn't work then it's probably a hardware issue and you'll need a care point to have a look at it.

Hi
I have a 6 month old (late 2011) iMac 27" 2.7-i5-4MB/1TB, the screen constantly blanks with the iMac still running and the screen still with content on (can just see if I shine a torch at it).
Hot corners off - sleep set to 30 mins
I can bring the screen back if I press shift-control-eject and move/click the mouse, sometimes this lasts for 5 sec sometimes for 10 min or more.
Why is the backlight doing this, its seems there is a hardware problem that is restored (temporarily I admit) by a software action, I cant believe changing the backlight will fix this.
Does anyone have a solution or is it a case of getting it back to the mac tech's???
Thanks
VictorYour iMac should still be under AppleCare warranty.
Sounds like intermittent backlight connection.
Bring it back to an Apple store or authorized Apple repair facility to be diagnosed and repaired. -
Refurbished iPod Touch Screen backlight problem
My Refurbished iPod Touch just came in and I was so excited. They sent it with the battery completely drained and I charged it halfway. The screen didn't light up. So Now I fully charged it and still nothing. I even purchased & upgraded software and still nothing.
The only way you can see something is by putting a light over it or putting near a window. I managed to get into the settings and check the screen brightness. I put it into the highest setting and still the screen doesn't light up.
Is the Backlight Bust????Christian Rosario wrote:

The caps lock blinking three times indicates it is related to the RAM.
You can try disconnecting everything including the battery and the AC charger, holding the power button for one minute, and then turning it on.
If that does not help, then you can try removing each RAM module and trying with them one at a time.
Page 60 of this guide details how to remove the RAM should you need it.

PB 15" screen backlight after sleep problem
I have an intermittent problem wherein my display backlight will not light sometimes upon waking up my PB from sleep. The backlight is totally out when this happens, not just dimmed. The laptop is on and the display itself is functioning (I can barely see the images on the dark screen) but the backlight is out. I have to press the power button for a second to get the "shut down" box, shut down the PB and restart it. During the boot process the screen backlight eventually relights. Anyone else having this problem?

Really easy to replace if yours is still under warranty then bring to nearest AASP or Apple store, If not then to replace inverter board you neew to use allen key to open 2 screws in the display open your display as wide as possible more than 90 degree and try to take the screws out.
Then use plastic stick/nylon sticj to pry open the display along the light and dark grey plastic and after you open the display bezel you will see the inverter board located in the bottom of your display.
Hope this help

Backlight problem when you unlock the screen
Hello everyone. recently bought the iPhone 5 ... recently began to notice that when the screen backlighting is on 0 brightness (Brightness off though and stands at 100 percent), reboot resets and does not help. Who can tell, the software is a problem or need to carry the service center
If you have restarted , reset, and restored the phone, then make an appointment with an apple genius bar and have them check it out to fix, or replace.

HP Probook 4540s (H6D81ES) AMD graphic problem!
Hello,
I have installed the AMD Video Driver and Control Panel but I still can't find anything related to that video card! and my dedicated video memory is still 32mb!! There is any way to increase it or something?? Also how is it possible that I could play Watch Dogs which requires 1gb video ram while I have only 32mb !!
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi:
Your specific 4540s product number H6D81ES only has the onboard Intel graphics adapter. It does not have the AMD/Intel switchable grahpics according to this spec sheet I found online.

HP Probook 4540s Sudden Shutdown Without any Warning
I have a HP Probook 4540s laptop bought in November 2012. It has Core i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50 Ghz chip with 8 gb ram and 500 GB hard disk. Till 2014 it was all OK. But now it has started giving me problems like it shut downs when it is at low battery say just about to reach 10 %. No low battery message just complete shut down(bam, screen goes dark). Now I have done the following steps
1. Battery has been calibrated it did solve the problem but it again started to happen.
2. I got my laptop's fan replaced 28 days back on i guess Jan 5, 2015 and vents are clean
3. I use Hardware Monitor Software to monitor the temperature and the results are as follows :
>> During Normal Operations it remains between 50 to 55 C (is it Normal ?) What should be the ideal temperature ?
>> Hard Disk temp is 60 to 64 C.
4. I use battery saver mode and everything set to normal
5. Drivers and BIOS Updated
6. Used HP Support Assistant to check battery health it shows OK.
7. I have changed the values also like I set the critical level, low battery and reserve battery but i guess that also not working.
Now My Question is
1. Is it due to overheating ? During normal operations like when plugged in it doesn't shutdown. Works Perfectly.
2. Or the battery is giving me trouble and needs to be replaced. After 100% charge it gives me around say 1 hr 30 mins of use but when it is about to hit 11 or 10% the system shuts down.
Please provide me with a solution
P.S. I don't use my laptop for gamingDeep.

HP Probook 4540s: Fingerprint Scanner Not Working
Hi,
Problem: Fingerprint Scanner - Windows log in does not give option to log in via fingerprint scanner.
Overview: After installing fingerprint drivers from the HP site and using the HP Protect Tools to successfully enroll fingerprint, I tried logging in via this method but the windows log in screen does not display this option. Device manager correctly identifies and shows the fingerprint sensor - however, the control panel says no biometric devices detected.
I really need help in sorting out this issue. Details of what steps I took trying to make the scanner work are given below.
Specs:
1) Probook 4540s
2) Windows 7 64-bit
3) i5-3210m, 1Gb Hd 7650m, 4 Gb 1333Mhz, 750Gb 5400rpm, VFS 491 Fingerprint scanner.
Details of the problem and steps I took to install drivers:
After a fresh installation of Windows 7, I went to the HP driver site to download the latest drivers for Probook 4540s:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5229457&...
I installed the drivers in roughly this order:
1)realtek ethernet controller drivers,
2)audio drivers,
3) the chipset and USB 3.0 drivers (but not the Intel MEI driver)
4) Intel video driver: faced an issue such that drivers were not being allowed to install. After disabling switchable graphics in the bios, I was able to get these drivers to install.
5) AMD video drivers: installed after the intel HD graphics driver - installed but Catalyst Control Center was not being displayed. So I re-enabled switchable graphics in BIOS, re-installed these drivers and CCC was now available.
6) HP hotkey support
7) HP universal camera driver
8) Validity Fingerprint sensor
9) Synaptics Touchpad driver
10) Atheros wifi & bluetooth
11) Jmicron card reader
After driver installation, I installed the HP Protect Tools. After prompting for a PC reboot - which I did - it asked for setup of security etc.. Part of this pocess was the enrolling of my fingerprints - successful. However, upon log off/ restart of windows, an option to log in with the fingerprint scanner did not appear in the Windows log in screen.
I opened the Control Panel, and found there was no biometric devices tab, even though device manager showed biometric device and validity sensor (VFS 491). I then proceeded to uninstall HP protect tools and the validity driver for the fingerprint sensor, then made sure these services were running:
-Credential Manager
-Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
-DCOM Server Process Launcher
-RPC Endpoint Mapper
-Windows Biometric Service
-Plug and Play
Then as suggested in another forum post, I first installed this :http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55109.exe and then the validity drivers from 4540s drivers page, and then HP Protect Tools.
After reboot HP Protect Tools as before would enroll my fingerprints, but again no prompt at windows login came to log in with fingerprint. However, one change after the installtion of http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55109.exe was that in control panel there is now a tab for biometric devices; however, it says that windows did not find any biometric devices installed. An image is attached showing both the device manager and the control panel!
Please HP provide a solution. Thanks!
This question was solved.
View Solution.Ok problem solved. I dont know whether it is related to the installation of HP windows 7 Essential System Updates and Intel MEI driver or not - but I did install these.
What really worked without doubt was this - > install both the fingerprint drivers and then the HP Protect Tools. Once rebooted, open HP Protect tools, then go to administration in the bottom right corner -> Administrative Console ->Increase System security -> tick windows login security and your done. Now you will be able to log in via enrolled fingerprints. -
Hello,
I have a HP ProBook 4540s running windows 7 (desktop shows: Test Mode Windows 7 build 7601)
The HDD is a Toshiba mk5061gsyn 500gb
For the last month or so the computer has been running very slow. The computer has always booted/start windows a bit slowly. Now it takes about 3-5minutes to get to the welcome screen then it takes a couple of minutes to load windows. Soluto shows all the programs that are being loaded on startup. (I never messed with this). I've run several antivirus programs and the system is clean. Back in June I had the same problem but there was malware found, not this time.
I ran speccy and it shows "warning" under the S.M.A.R.T section. I used the HP system tools and ran the HDD test and no errors were found. When I tried using the HDD test from Toshiba and I couldn't run the scan test, it only showed the model name and serial #.
I'm not sure what to do next?
