  • ProBook 4440S brand new malfunctioning

I just got a brand new HP ProBook 4440S. As soon as I turned it on I went to the McAfee website to install antivirus. I noticed it was very sluggish - i.e. it took 5-10 minutes for the buttons to light up so I could click and then took another several minutes to start IE once I was able to click. It connected to the McAfee site quickly as it should and downloaded the antivirus without issue.
In order to install McAfee I had to reboot the computer. When I restarted the computer it began downloading Windows updates (83 of them). It took 8 hours to finish then it gave me a message saying the Windows updates failed. It then restarted.
Once the computer restarted it ran the disk check utility for several hours. A whole lot of lines that read "File record segment ###### is unreadable." It will not boot from the CD it came with.
This is a BRAND NEW computer! Ridiculous.
I can't get the product number from the computer because I can't boot it up to find it. I have the model number and serial number, but I can't get onto your tech support with either of those numbers so I can get some help.
I received the computer through a 3rd party government purchaser so I cannot return it - I don't know where it was purchased. I cannot return it to the purchaser.
This is very frustrating, as I NEED this computer starting next week.
Where can I take it to get it working right, repaired, or exchange it under HP warranty?

  • Windows 7 Ultimate x64 BOOT Failure on HP ProBook 450 G1...

    Dear forum viewes and experts...
I hope you can provide me with your insights on this problem i am having...
I bought a new laptop HP ProBook 450 G1 (i5 4200M, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 2GB ATI Graphics card). The laptop comes with DOS free operating system.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate from ISO file on a USB stick, and then activated the Windows.
After updating all drivers and having a clean device manager with no hardware left as unknown, i figured out that the laptop fails to make a cold BOOT.
After several trials, and installations. the problem remained the same. I changed the installation to Windows 8.1 Pro and the problem remained the same.
On cold booting, the laptop after showing HP logo in start-up starts to show Windows Logo animation but in Super Slow Motion for about 6-8 minutes, then followed by strange sounds which force me to shut it down by pressing power button for long until it shuts down.
After huge number of trail and error, i found out that if I entered BIOS Setup (by pressing esc then F10) and then exiting it without doing any changes or even without saving, the Laptop boots Windows 7 very smoothly (in about 15-18 seconds) and works fine. it also can make endless number of smooth restarts without any problem.
If it is shut down then turned on, the boot failure is the outcome.
The only way to make a successful cold BOOT (i.e after a shut down) is to enter BIOS setup mode (by pressing esc then F10), then exiting it within seconds without changing anything or saving, then it boots smoothly.
I tried MBR fixes through command prompt in Recovery Mode, I tried to change booting to make it boot as LEGACY or UEFI Hybrid. The BIOS is updated to the latest frimware on HP website verion 1.2 dated 15 July 2014.
NO HELP.....All lead to the same disappointing result.
Any idea whether this is a hardware issue/software issue/BIOS issue?
Your insights will be highly appreciated

Can you post a screenshot with the PCI\VEN hardware ids of the bluetooth device? The image below shows an example of what we need to identify the device properly.

  • Boot Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive (2Tb) on HP ProBook 6570b

    Hello All!
I currently bought a Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive (2Tb) and tried to make it a bootable drive so if I go to work and back to use it (Windows to go). On my desktop computer the drive works perfectly, boots and everything is fine, but on my laptop (HP Probook 6570b) it is not recognized as a boot device! I installed the drive from the laptop and it recognizes the drive in windows but not at boot time….
I downloaded the latest bios and installed it. (2014.08 F.50) and tried again. (Before that the laptop did not start at all if the drive was pluged in on boot!!!)
I set the boot to legacy, then UEFI and Native to but nothing. Set the priority to boot from usb drive first then flashdisk and everything that is not internal… and then Internal HDD and then network and dvd etc..
When the drive options come up with Escape/F10 there are no usb drives (if the drive is pluged in only). Tried all usb ports on the Laptop nothing. If I boot without anything pressed the Internal HDD boots normally. I plug in an usb pendrive with a bootable content on it, that boots fine, but I can’t seem to get the drive working. I checked with Seagate and they don’t have newer firmware for the drive it is up to date. So the problem would be in the Bios or the settings.
Anyone faced something similar maybe? Any help would be appreciated.
I think it will be a Bios problem... if anyone could point me to the right direction about makeing this an issue to update the ProBook 6570b bios to get it to work would be the biggest help i think
I got 10 day to bring the drive back, to the reseller to get another if this is not working,  but this is not the drives fault. If anyone has a working USB HDD with Probook and windows to go and could tell me the device name that would be a great help to.
    Thanks

  • HP Probook 4520s Memory upgrade to 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Unsuccessful and Failed

    Ok, here is the story
My notebook is HP Probook 4520s
    with Windows Windows 8.1 (6.3) 64-bit (Build 9600)
Please refer to the end of this post for CPU-Z report of specs.
Currently I have 3GB of memory installed -had to install them back after upgrade failure-.
Please refer again to the CPU-Z report for the memory module specifications.
I bought the following Corsair 2x4GB memory pack
    Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9 8GB (2x4GB) 1333MHz DDR3 SODIMM
    http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Memory/SODIMM/43657-CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9
    Specs of new modules:

    Size 8GB Kit (2 x 4GB)
    Performance Profile none
    Fan Included No
    Heat Spreader—
    Memory Configuration Dual Channel
    Memory Type DDR3

    SPD Speed 1333MHz
    Tested Speed 1333Mhz
    Tested Latency 9-9-9-24
    SPD Latency 9-9-9-24
When I installed the memory module onto the notebook, I basically couldn't go beyond the POST stage. That is the HP logo appears on the screen, and that's it.. that's it.. nothing beyond that stage.
When I went to the BIOS settings, the memory successfully read 81xxMB, this is basically 8GB of RAM.
I tried to reset BIOS settings, failed again.
I removed the 2x4GB modules, put back both original 1GB and 2GB modules -the ones that came with the notebook-, everything worked again.
    What went wrong here..?
P.S. please do not reply with lame replies like "that's weird" "that's strange", I know it's weird and strange. I want specific and clear suggestions.

  • My HP Probook 450 G0 fingerprint reader is not working WIndows 7

    Hello,
I am trying to enable my HP Probook 450 G0 fingerprint reader.... I tried many driver version of validity sensor... and finally i have currently installed the driver and software that are mentioned in following link....
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/DV4-1240br-FingerPrint-Driver-f...
Both are them working fine (**without any error) But DigitalPersona is showing me the following message on welcome screen.... "The FingerPrint reader is not connected.Connect the reader"....
    OS : Windows 7 Professional
What do you say.....is there any compatibiltiy issue or any hardware issue....or if there any driver mismatch, can someone suggest me the supported driver version....
    Thanks in Advance

I have the same problem as the original poster, and followed the download link you provided only to encounter the exact same issue.  I am using Windows 7 and bought this machine two days ago.  I don't understand why this singular process is this problematic.  I really miss my ASUS K53E and it's face logon feature.
Perhaps HP should take lessons unless they have something better than this "fingerprint reader."  The only consistent feature I am detecting is its inconsistancy.  Oh well, I just won't bother using it, or put a sticker over the thing.
If I have to spend more than an hour troubleshooting a feature of medium to low importance then it was a mistake to purchase the machine (but it was a gift sadly), and it was a mistake to implement the feature and release it without making sure it works.  Pretty weak HP, but not as bad as Toshiba or Gateway/Acer at least--not that it says much.
Anyone have a legit fix for this annoying issue?  Or some third party facial recognition login program instead?

  • Sound coming from both speakers and headphones at the same time in probook 4440s

I have a Probook 4440s with windows 8 pro(64 bit) with IDT high definition codec installed. Yesterday when i was playing some songs i noticed that the sound was coming from both headphones and speakers even when my headphones are plugeed in and my lappy was having no such problems a few hours earliers while i was watching a movie. Please help..

It may be because you have both the internal speakers and headphones enabled at the sametime on your laptop. This might just happen automatically when you plug your headphones in. You need to manage your audio devices on your laptop.
Go to Control Panel> Hardware and Sounds> Manage Audio Devices> Playback Tab (which should already be selected)
In the playback tab there should be a list of all the audio devices you are using on your computer. Right click on the one you don't want to use and click disable. This should stop the sound coming from that audio device.
Remember: You will need to enable that audio device if you want to listen to sound through it again. Your internal speakers won't work once you enable them again. This might also be the case with your headphones. You may also have to do this every time your plug in a device or once you restart your computer.
Another note: Sometimes disabled devices will not show up on the audio device list so once you disable a device it will dissappear. This is an easy fix too. Just right click on an audio device and make sure show disabled devices and show disconnected devices is checked.
    I hope this helps.
(I was using a computer with Windows XP to explain the instructions but it should be similar with your Windows Operating System. You may however have to play around a little on your computer because it may be slightly different)

  • How do i make a clean install of widows on my HP Probook 5310m or my HP Laptop.

Hi, how with a HP Probook 5310m can i use a Win 7 64 bit OS from my destop which is broken, i want to do an install with that disk.
But i dont want to lose WIFI or any other specific drivers. I am rreasonably confident that I could install Mint Linux and everything would work fine that i needed. But Windows is not as easy. I am sure I would run into trouble. Or is there another way ?
Should I do something now to prepare for the future, its a refurbished "new" Probook. I am only asking for future reference ?
But my HP Laptop which cost a few thousand, is running so slow and its only a few years old, Win 7 pro 64 bit. Its a quarter, thats being kind of the speed it was and thats after uninstalling a lot of programs. All i really need is MS Office and MYOB ?
Sorry its not with me now but im pretty sure it did not come with a copy of windows either ? I can ask about it in a new post with the correct details so right now i really will focus on the Probook Question thanks

  • Processor hangs after adding more RAM to probook 4540s

    hey ALL
recently i upgraded my laptop hp probook 4540s to 16 GB RAM
I am having two identical (Same part numbers) RAM sticks of following specs:
    manufaturer:   TRANSCEND
    Memory         :   8 GB (each)
    Frequecy       :   1600 MHz
    Type               :    DDR3
    PC3                 :    12800
the issue is the lowness of processor. Processor utilization meter shows 70 to 80 % utilization with these two sticks running.
If i install only single module of 8 GB then the System runs great. i have checked both modules individualy by installing each of them in single channel configuration. also i changed the slots in single channel configuration. in single channel configuration everything runs great.
the complete specs of my system are :-
    Specifications
do anyone have any idea of what is going on
i shall be very thankfull to everyone for helping me on this

    Hi,
According to the Maintenence & Service guide for your notebook  a maximum of 8GB is supported in your notebook.
The modules supported are PC3-10600, 1333-MHz, DDR3. They are not PC3 12800 modules like the ones you have installed.
That would seem to explain the issue you are having.
    Best regards,
    erico.

  • HP Probook 4540s upgrading RAM

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade my memory (4GBs are not enough in theese days) for probook 4540s
Now, I have 1 module with theese specifications:
    CPU-Z:
    DIMM #                1
        SMBus address        0x52
        Memory type        DDR3
        Module format        SO-DIMM
        Manufacturer (ID)    Hyundai Electronics (AD000000000000000000)
        Size            4096 MBytes
        Max bandwidth        PC3-12800 (800 MHz)
        Part number        HMT351S6CFR8C-PB
        Serial number         (Personal information removed)
        Manufacturing date    Week 38/Year 12
        Number of banks        8
        Nominal Voltage        1.50 Volts
    Question is:
Can I add newer model to the second slot?
    I want to buy:
    HP SO-DIMM 4GB DDR3 1600 MHz Unbuffered
    Certificated for PC3-12800 (B4U39AA)
It seems, the new model of ram module should be compatible with my notebook, but will be compatible with my old module, while working on 2x higher frequency?
Or I have to buy 2 new modules and  replace the old too?
Or I missed something and it is not compatible in any way?
Also, I have red at other forums, that upgrading memory up to supported 16GB takes some performance issues. Is it still ture, or is this already fixed?
    Thanks for answer

    Hi ,
The model supports the following specification of memory.
    Standard
    DDR3 PC3-10600 SDRAM (1333 MHz)
Two SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory.
    2GB and 4GB SODIMMs
    Maximum
Upgradeable to 8192MB with optional 4096MB SODIMMs in slots 1 and 2.
    Dual-channel
Maximized dual-channel performance requires SODIMMs of the same size and speed in both memory slots.

  • HP Probook 6450b Memory upgrade issue

    Hi All,
I appear to be having a strange issue trying to upgrade the memory in a HP 6450b probook (i5-480m & ATI card). The laptop came with 2gb of p/n sps 598856-002 which is 1333mhz 1.5v ram with the manufacturer being ramaxel. I ordered and fitted a couple of 4gb kingston sticks
    http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10473659/mfg_partno/KTH-X3BS/4G
Fitted them and all seemed to be well as the OS (win 7 32bit pro) showed the stick as 8gb recognised and 3gb usable, the bios also reports 8gb as well. However the moment a 64 bit OS (Linux or Windows) is attempted to be run the laptop just crashes or hangs
I previously attempted this upgrade with two sticks of crucial memory but had exactly the same problem, so thinking the crucial memory was the issue I returned them to the supplier and ordered the kingstons instead.
I have seen very similar issue noted here:
    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/328016-30-memory-upgrade-probook
    and
    http://superuser.com/questions/580512/hp-probook-6450b-not-booting-after-memory-upgrade
My gut instinct suggests this laptop may be very fussy about the memory chips, it may have to be a 16 chip 4gb stick as opposed to 8 chip 4gb sticks.
Any thoughts and help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    You're very welcome.
Glad the lower density memory worked for you, and now you know what to look for the next time you plan on upgrading the memory on any HP notebook made in the last 8 years or so.

  • Probook 4540s HHD randomly gets very slow

Hey, I have hp probook 4540s running windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
Problem is HDD sometimes (after startup) being very slow, transfer speeds according to resource monitor are ~200kb/s, windows startup takes around 30minutes. HDD transfer speeds do not get better no much how long u wait.Cpu and memory usages are regular (=low) while this happens. All diagnostic programs (hp ones) do not find any issues.
First I assumed it being a virus or windows problem so I formatted HDD and re-installed win7, a few days went by and it happened again. Computer has latest bios, and drivers, except update sp59047.exe which should be firmware for hdd this computer has. Running this sp59047 opens window which says hdd is correct for this update.. then it restarts computer which ends up in ms-dos looking command prompt saying failure. This environment has autoexec.bat and auto2.bat which both return 'failure' while i try to run them.
HDD itself cant be seen but it has sticker 'replace with hp spare 641672-001 and 8k12a0. I'd expect software issue but this is fresh windows 7 with only regular stuff (firefox, adobe flash, .Net, directx, teamviewer, and kaspersky antivirus).. when problem first time appeared this computer didn't have any antivirus, so likely kaspersky isn't causing it. So, ideas what might be the problem? Lack of that firmware update? HDD about to fail? Computer still has warranty for 2 weeks, but I hate dealing with dealers when problem is something like this which passes build in-tests and happens randomly. Haven't tried with HP yet thou.

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this <HERE>
