  • No /dev/lp? on COMPAQ Proliant ML370 with Solaris 8 x86 10/00

    Dear Sir,
I have a problem about the /dev/lp? port in Solaris 8 x86 with COMPAQ Proliant ML370. I have seen in the boot interpreter it has detected a parallel port
device isa/lp@1...., but after I boot -r to start Solaris 8
OS it don't make any /dev/lp? or /devices/isa/lp*... and if
I mknod /dev/lp? myself it cannot print out ( I use cat /etc/hosts >> /dev/lp1, /dev/lp1 major=83 minor=1 ) It say "cannot create". I wonder why this happens, If I install this Solaris 8 x86 on other PC model. It has /dev/lp1 and can print out successfully. I try many ways such as: upgrade latest ROMPAQ BIOS firmware,
install lp driver patch set, install acpi patch. But still don't work. I found that serial ports (asy) which are ACPI is working because I can redirect console to serial port (asy).
Do anyone have the idea to solve or track down this problems. Thanks a lot...

  • Install Solaris10 on HP ProLiant ML370 G6, "No Disk" error

    Hello,
I want to install Solaris10 on HP ProLiant ML370 G6 servers which are on the Hardware Compatible List( HCL). However, I always encounter "No disk" issue and installation fails. The disks are HP SAS disks.
I searched online and knew that CPQAry3 driver must to be installed first. I did but the "No disk" error still happens later.
I am wondering what else I should do?
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
You have to apply the ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade before.

  • Last version of HP ProLiant DL160 Rack Server

    Hey everybody!
I am trying to find the last version of the HP ProLiant DL160 Rack Server, but whether I don’t find it or if I do it turns out to be really expensive.
Do you know any website where I can buy the last version?
    As cheap as possible.
    Thanks!

I think that the last version is Gen9, you can find it in: https://www.ware247.co.uk/
They can get you the server at a good price, they usually do.
    Good luck.

  • Only 2 ports in a quad port NIC are working - HP NC365T - Proliant DL380 G7 - Server 2008 R2 Core

    Hi All,
    Scenario:
I've got a HP DL380 G7 running Windows Server 2008 R2 Core. I added an additional NIC which is supported on this platform (HP NC365T) but only 2 of the ports showed as being live. No link lights or anything on ports 2 and 3. 1 and 4 worked just fine. I was
using the latest drivers from the HP site, also rolled back to the previous ones but had the same issue. HP provided me with a replacement to test with but that exhibited the same issue.
    Fix:
This NIC uses the Intel 82580 controller. Just download the drivers for that from the Intel website.
Here's a link to the Intel drivers
    Conclusion:
I had a call open with HP for days. They struggled to fix it and suggested it was an OS issue. Always go for the manufacturer drivers if you're having issues!
    Cheers!
    James

    Hi,
Did you mean that the issue had been solved by install the compatible Intel drivers? If yes, good to hear that and thanks for sharing.

  • A formal request.

I would like to formally address an issue regarding Adobe's
    support of the Linux platform.
As a professional, I have been using Linux for years. I
started my technical consulting and support business running Linux
primarily on my desktops and servers, using productivity
applications such as OpenOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, GNUCash, and
others to get work done. I have gotten along great with it, and am
proud to say that to this day, I am an avid Linux user and
supporter. I haven't been able to find one reason to switch to
another platform with my business yet.
Recently I was contracted by an elementary school district in
Northern California to convert all of their student computer labs
from Windows 2000 workstations to Linux/LTSP thin clients. This is
a common situation for educational institutions these days, as
software licensing is becoming a rather large headache for those
with limited IT budgets, not to mention the ease of administration
with thin client networks compared to the traditional
    workstation/server network model.
I am on school 2/7, setting up servers and reconfiguring
aging clients to boot from the network...myself and the district's
IT staff could not be happier with the way things are working out -
    with one exception.
Unfortunately, the time I have primarily used setting up
Linux LTSP computer labs have been dealing with getting Firefox
Flash and Shockwave players working correctly. Here is our standard
lab setup for the 7 schools to be converted:
    - HP Proliant ML370 G5 server (dual quad-core Intel Xeon
    64-bit processors, 8GB RAM)
    - Neoware e100 thin clients (32-bit, 128mb RAM)
    - Ubuntu Linux (64-bit server edition 7.04)
Our first issue was Flash. Although Flash 9 has been released
for Linux (although much later than it was for Windows/Mac), the
only architecture it supports is i386 (32-bit). This required a
*completely* separate install of Firefox (the 32-bit version),
alongside the standard 64-bit version installed with Ubuntu 64-bit.
This took a lot of time (and money for the schools) to accomplish.
I found, after much research and headache, a script which attempts
to automate the technical nightmare that is installing 32-bit
browsers/plugins in a 64-bit environment. It is here:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=202537
. This, I thought, was the end of a big hurdle to get the schools
    migrated to Linux.
Unfortunately, it wasn't. The 32-bit version of Firefox,
being a browser with a different CPU architecture, does not
correctly talk to default Ubuntu installed printer libraries. I
doubt many who develop for Ubuntu could have caught this, since it
is the community that plugs these holes, specifically for these
    types of situations.
So, even if the students could now use Flash-enabled
websites, they could now not print anything from their browsers.
The next (major) roadblock is Shockwave. Now, it seems that
Adobe is completely ignoring Linux support for Shockwave all
together. There are no indications of any Linux support for the
Shockwave player/Firefox browser plugin for Linux. This is a MAJOR
issue, as the students' curriculum use Shockwave-enabled websites
to learn. Basically, if we can't get Shockwave running on our Linux
network, the students will be missing out on a major educational
portal, which means the learning process that goes on in school is
crippled. This would all be due to the lack of support Adobe is
    giving the Linux platform.
On top of these issues, the fact that Adobe is only releasing
its players in 32-bit architectures is extremely hard to believe.
Even if Shockwave is ported to Linux, the possibilitiy of it (or
Flash) being compiled for 64-bit architectures is but a far cry in
the woods for a Starbucks double espresso. I simply do not see how
Adobe is holding back on putting their resources to unifying their
Internet-standard web products such as Flash and Shockwave. In my
(very humble) opinion, Adobe is doing a great disservice to the
Internet community as a whole, and is being very irresponsible as a
major software company that so many people rely on for their
    Internet experience.
Please give more of your resources to the development of
unifying your web-based players such as Flash and Shockwave. It was
    said in an article here:
    http://www.linux.com/feature/32077
, that Adobe would make a Shockwave player for Linux if they
    received a "few thousand requests".
Well, take a look at this online petition to get Shockwave on
    Linux:
    http://www.petitiononline.com/linuxswp/petition.html
. If you click on "View Current Signatures", you will find as of
2007/09/12, 10:29am PDT, 26,275 signatures have been added. A 'few
more' than a 'few thousand', don't you think?
I eagerly await a response from any Adobe representative on
this issue. I am determined to get what so many are asking for, and
I am willing to spend even more of my time to show Adobe what they
need to see from the people they are working for.
    Thank you for your time.
    Sincerely,
    Jordan Erickson

Thank you Adobe for your ignorance in questions of amd64
flash. There is so much advertising is passing by and not stopping
on my computer that i probably saved myself a fortune on traffic. I
am so much thankful to you for not releasing BIG products like
Photoshop to Linux platform which gave me a good opportunity to
check out open source alternatives. I am not a designer, but rather
all around computer enthusiast, so my Photoshop skills were still
very well implemented in Gimp, even though i am not doing design
for life. However I am not Adobe hater. I still use Adobe Acrobat,
even though i know some very good alternative products, question of
price is irrelevant, since all of them are free.

  • Primary disk missing

I've been trying to install Solaris 9 on a HP Proliant ML370 G4 Server with a Smart Array 641 controller. Ever since I was not able to get further then to the point of the interactive part of the Solaris installation, where you should be able to select the source of the installation. I receive the error "Missing primary disk" I have done several approaches to solve this, here the list:
    - Updated the System ROM http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/1088_5562.html
    - Updated the Firmware of the Smart Array 641 Controller, version 2.48 http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/locate/1088_5559.html
    - Updated the SCSI Disks from the latest fimware CD http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23331.html
    - Downloaded and added the HP Driver for the smart Array 641 Controller http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/21538.html
I booted with the smart start CD and set up a RAID1. Rebooted with the first Solaris 9 CD and added successfully the Smart Array controller 641 driver. After that I should be able to choose from what location I want to install solaris, this screen does not appear, instead I get the message "error missing primary disk".
I believe that I installed all the necessary/available drivers and firmware but yet I'm still no able to get that thing running.
Is there anybody who has had the same problem and found a solution to it? Help desperately appreciated!
    Thanx Sfusfu

mebbe the lun got no label.
during the solaris installation when it reaches the xwindow part, you able to right+click to open a terminal window?
if you can try to do 'format' to see the os can understand the disk or not. like example
    AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
    0. c1t0d0 <SUN72G cyl 14087 alt 2 hd 24 sec 424>
    /pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/sd@0,0
    1. c1t1d0 <SUN72G cyl 14087 alt 2 hd 24 sec 424>
    /pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/sd@1,0
Specify disk (enter its number): ^C^D
then try selecting the disk and see if it prompts you for a "label" for the hardisk and if so try labelling the disk.

  • Problem booting Solaris 10 on ProLiant server after installation.

    Hi all!
I have a brand new HP ProLiant DL360 G5 server. It contains 6 internal
hard drives. RAID 5 is configured on these drives using built-in HP
Smart Array P400i controller. I've just installed Solaris 10 8/07 on this
server. Solaris requires a driver for P400i controller. I'm using Driver
Update CD created from HP provided ISO image. Solaris 10 is
officially supported OS for DL360 G5 server.
    Installation proceeds as expected:
    1) At the begining of Solaris installation, Driver Update is used to
load HP driver for raid controller. During installation, disk is
recognized as c1d0t0 (the only disk in system); one partition is
    created on this disk.
    2) Disk is devided to 6 slices:
    c1d0t0s0 - swap, 4GB
    c1d0t0s1 - /, cca 32GB
    c1d0t0s[3,4,5,6] - /zones/[a,b,c,d] - each cca 160GB
    3) At the end of installation, CPQary3 driver is installed to target
system without any errors reported. No errors are reported during
    installation at all.
After reboot, GRUB is started. It shows boot menu containing two
    options:
    - Solaris 'normal' boot
    - failsafe boot
PROBLEM: Selecting 'normal' boot leads to immediate system restart.
According to documentation, this case occurs when PCQary3
    driver is not installed.
I'm able to boot using 'failsafe' option in grub. After entering single
user, I load PCQary3 driver to runtime using 'install-du' command.
I'm also able to find instaled Solaris using 'install-recovery' and mount
its root volume to /a directory. Necessary driver IS installed inside
/a/kernel/drv/ directory. Options 'bootpath' in /a/boot/solaris/bootenv.rc
file is set up correctly pointing to device associated with /dev/dsk/c1d0t0s1
device. Also GRUB is able to recognize UFS filesystem for boot partition.
    I've already tried (without success):
    1) Use RAID 1+0 instead of RAID5
    2) Create only 3,5GB partition instead of 700GB large one.
    3) Place / on c1d0t0s0 instead of c1d0t0s1.
    4) Re-create boot archive using 'bootadm update-archive -R /a'
So, everything seems to be installed correctly, but system cannot boot.
Do you have any ideas how to fix this problem?
    Jozef

Sounds like an issue I just had with a brand new X4150, installation and failsafe worked fine, but normal booting led to immediate reboot of the server. This was due to an incompatibility of solaris and intel's newest generation xeon chips.
You can still boot 'normal' solaris in 32-bit mode:
hit 'e' at the grub menu, 'e' again to edit the 'normal' boot entry and add 'kernel/unix' after multiboot. This should boot up solaris in 32-bit mode. From there, download and install the latest patch set (125370-06 and 127112-05 are fixing this issue). After that you should be fine.

  • Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7 and HP Proliant ML350 G3

I would like if it has any clarification regarding the compatibility problem between Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7 and HP Proliant ML350 G3 Server. I cann't proceed with the installation of Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7 on that machine whilst the process just stop at first logo. When I'm using Oracle Enterprise Server 9i 9.1 version, the installation process can proceed successfully. But, my customer (own Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7) requires to install Oracle 8i 8.1.7 not Oracle 9i 9.1 version.
So, please someone help me to rectify that problem !!!!!

Can it be installed? It probably can be (assuming we're talking XP Professional).
Is it certified? On the main OTN page, under "Get Support" is the certification & availability matrix. Following that down, you'll find that the Oracle client was certified on 8.1.7, subject to the application of a number of patchsets, but that the Oracle database was not. Windows 2000 was the latest flavor of Windows that was certified with the 8.1.7 database.

    Hello All,

    Hello All,
This issue has been addressed by setting OS to 'other' (not Solaris).
I've used smartstart cd and removed all server's configuration. Then, I've set the server for Solaris installation (The Solaris 2.6 up to 8 are supported). The bad trap error did show up again. However, when I changed the OS to 'other', I was able to start the installation process successfully.
    Thank you,
